With that, Gemini is coming to Workspace with Gemini for Google Workspace. Google Drive is having a potentially massive issue right now that we have to talk about. There are articles from several major publications talking about this and the situation is still being investigated. Many users are complaining that their Google Drives have reverted back to May and are showing no activity since then. There was a long Google Drive forum support thread that has since been locked and removed and a new document with just the support comment. We are also seeing some sync issues on Mac such as Finder showing Drive needs to be running to sync, however it is in fact running, and on my wifes intel mac, in finder, folders that are in drive, when new files are added to the folder, they are not uploading despite the app saying everything is synced. https://support.google.com/drive/thread/245861992/drive-for-desktop-v84-0-0-0-84-0-4-0-sync-issue?hl=en Breaking News: Google Next Registration is live! PSA: Clean Your Desks. You might notice that my audio and video look and sound different this week. This is because I just dumped my can of seltzer all over my desk not once, but twice in a row and the second time was all over my rodecaster sound deck which runs my mic. The camera was not affected but I just got the new Macbook Pro M3 Pro and I something in my stack is not playing nicely and it refused to connect for this.
I wanted to talk a bit more about Threaded Spaces, we complained about it last week and in preparation for the rollout, wanted to remind everyone of a few items from the release: Beginning September 30, 2023 we will begin upgrading conversations grouped by topic to in-line threading. We anticipate this change to be completed by March 2024. A minimum of two weeks prior to the upgrade taking place, a banner will be displayed in impacted spaces notifying users about the impending change. Users will be able to click through to the Help Center for more information. If you're using an impacted space when the upgrade commences, most functions such as sending and receiving messages will be inaccessible. Typically, this will only last for a few minutes, after which users simply need to refresh the browser tab to access and use the newly upgraded space. Once the upgrade is complete, the space will use the in-line threaded model. Messages sent before the upgrade will be retained, and will be arranged chronologically, instead of by topic. There will also be a separator titled “Begin New Topic” to indicate every time a new topic was started. In some cases, when people have responded on older topics, the new chronological order takes precedence. This means that messages may not appear next to the original topic, but rather according to their timestamp. When this occurs, the new response will quote the last corresponding message that it is replying to
Super short episode this week, with 3 updates and 1 news item, and we still found time to complain about the Topics switchover to Threads in Google Chat. Enjoy!

Hello from Google Cloud Next! We recorded this late last night after a long first day at #googlecloudnext and I think this is possibly the single best episode of Workspace Recap we have ever created. A monster episode this week with updates to Chat, Cloud Search, Sites, Access Approvals, Classroom, Drive, and more. Over Passover, I was offline a lot and had the chance to catch up on some reading and I absolutely tore through Losing the Signal which is the story of the epic rise and eventual fall of Blackberry. They changed how we communicate and not only got completely blindsided by Apple and then Google, they completely refused to believe this is the future people would want. Now I loved my Crackberrys and had many different models over the years including the touch screen Storm Slider, and the design was getting better but the OS was just trash at that point. This book goes behind the scenes and now I know why. They are releasing a new movie based on this book called Blackberry and if you are anything like me, I recommend reading the book and seeing the movie. It releases May 12th. Bring on the Bard! Not only did Google announce Google Bard, their answer to ChatGPT, they gave some of us access, and Steve and I were lucky enough to be among those who did. Now, that being said, a couple of things to note. It does NOT currently work with Google Workspace accounts, so I had to dig into my ancient original gmail account from high school to sign up. I asked my Google Assistant what it thought of Google Bard and it immediately had a panic attack switching screens and trying to show me different youtube videos until it got stuck on a black screen.
