I think it's fair to say all of us have had a bad experience with a leader at some point in our military careers. But what happens when those interactions impact our mental health and ability to get care? How can we advocate for ourselves and others?Rachel Oswalt is a Navy veteran and military mental health advocate that's asking military leadership to do better. Through her own experiences trying to get support while active duty, she saw how broken the system and culture was when it came to supporting sailors with mental health struggles (which by the way - is ALL of us!). In this episode, she shares her story and how it fuels her to challenge and coach military leaders to help them improve. This is such an important conversation, and I know you're going to feel inspired to step up as well!***If you or someone you know is struggling with mental health, dial 988 for the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline. There's nothing worse than your workout getting sacrificed…again, to make sure you get work done or attend that meeting. Or worse, when you realize you will be working this weekend to get caught up. Take a look at your actual planner and then analyze how you are filling it in. Are you scheduling time for brain breaks? Are you spending time with an “energy vampire?” Is there a meeting that could realistically be a call or email? And lastly, decide on the items that have to get done that day and move them to the top of the list.In this episode, I'll ask you a few questions to make sure you attend to the duties that make you money but also to the things that make you happy. You'll love the balance this will give your life! And hey, I know life is busy and there are a lot of things screaming for your attention. Curse you Diet Culture! When you are solely focused on your weight you will build up a lot of negative self talk and bad habits. When we focus on solely losing weight, we can become fixated on the numbers and our bodies. This doesn't create freedom, but keeps you stuck in a diet cycle. And it definitely doesn't serve for a positive mindset. Life should be about being healthy and abundance. On the other hand, I'm all for the body positivity movement…BUT…it's a double edged sword. There's the argument “If you are really happy in your body why do you want to lose weight?” In our society and on social media, it feels women can't win. Instead, I like to focus on what you want to be, do, and have as a result of health/weight loss. Want to be a healthy parent for your kids and an example? Or maybe you want to KNOW you could pass weigh ins!! Your “why” should not give you guilt, it should be innocent motivation. It's ok to want to be more healthy.Focus on your health to reap all the “side effect benefits.” THIS is how you lose weight but not be a hot mess about it! Focus on the small habit you want to improve over time. And if you need a cheering section…I'm here for it! Most people are only focusing on 1-2 pillars (and they're doing it wrong). Learn about the 4 pillars of health that are fundamental to getting healthy and helping you reach your goals! They are food, fitness, sleep, and mindset. One is not more important than the other! It sounds simple, but most people are not creating habits in all four pillars. Why does it matter?Food is our fuel. And the old school mindset of calories in and calories out, is just not that simple! Let me shed some light on food and how to improve that relationship! Next, is fitness. Good news, you do not need to be a cardio bunny! You're welcome! Fitness should be something you enjoy, not punishment. What is your soulmate workout? Sleep is so important. And I'm not talking quantity. You need quality sleep to help your body restore and repair. In fact, one-third of weight loss takes place in your sleep!Last but certainly not least, you need to evaluate your mindset. How are you talking to yourself? What has been ingrained in you from your upbringing? What lies do you need to dismiss? You can do this. It may be challenging but you can do this. And THIS is where a coach really comes in handy. A coach's job is to believe in your before you can believe in yourself! I'd love to chat with you to see if I could have the honor of being your coach! Bet you thought I forgot about you…NEVER! I am back better than ever and appreciate everyone's support. I didn't feel like me and when I took a closer look I knew I was facing burnout. I was growing this gratifying business, trying to pass a qualification, AND working my job. Something had to give and it wasn't easy to make the decision to step back temporarily. But when I started to truly miss helping others in their health journey…I knew I had taken enough time off and was ready to jump back into the swing of things. I learned so much in my short hiatus. I have an action plan in place to prevent burnout so I wanted to share some insights from my break. Adjusting goals may happen due to a little break but the mental sanity and your health are worth it! I allowed myself to say no to things, to rest, to focus on self care for me! Our money mindset comes from what we see in our childhood. What is your money mindset? How did you parents act about money? Did they talk about it or was it taboo? In Kayla's house they were comfortable about money and had open conversations. As Kayla grew up she realized that was not the case for most households. After her career in the Navy she shifted her focus to being a life coach with a focus on finances, ultimately becoming a finance coach! She sees how money really affects all areas of a persons life. She urges people to not be hard on themselves “You don't know what you don't know.” If you weren't taught to be responsible with money but you realize you need to be, this episode is a great place to start!Learn more from Kayla at:Free 60min consult session: https://calendly.com/kaylalyoncoaching/60minFree Money Mindset Guide Download: https://kaylalyon.com/moneymindsetguide/Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/kaylamjlyonFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/kaylamjlyonWebsite: https://kaylalyon.com This episode is brought to you by Thrive MarketUse http://thrv.me/n86W5b for 25% off your first order…Happy Shopping!Click here to subscribe to Healthy Women Warriors!Join the Healthy Women Warriors Facebook Group!Sign up for my WEEKLY NEWSLETTER and you'll get FREE tips on how to live a healthy life sustainably!!Email me at: admin@ashleighmagee.comIG: @AshmageecoachFB: @Ashleigh Magee Coaching

Neka Blair joined me this week to talk about the importance of community through transition and prioritizing health. Neka served in the Air Force and chose a health care career when she got out. She started as an EMT, then a medic, and eventually realized the dream of being a nurse. The fulfillment that she got from watching people arrive with sickness and able to leave healthy was great for Neka. She loved what she was doing but the constant stress led to her own major health scare, forcing her to choose a new path. Her story is a beautiful one full of transition and finding where she "belonged" with each change. After sacrificing her health for so long, she wants to be the example of keeping “your cup full” so you have something to pour into others. Are you tired of everyone thinking because you are in the Military it means you are masculine? I feel like this conversation NEEDS to be had. If you like being feminine and you are in the Military - you should be able to express that within professional boundaries. Expressing ourselves honestly allows us to show up as our best and lean into our strengths as leaders. This episode is a lot of real talk (and maybe a little rant) about the freedom to be feminine in our military. This episode is brought to you by Imperfect Foods!Use this link for $10 off your first box: http://imprfct.us/v/ashleigh_392Click here to subscribe to Healthy Women Warriors!Join the Healthy Women Warriors Facebook Group!Sign up for my WEEKLY NEWSLETTER and you'll get FREE tips on how to live a healthy life sustainably!!Email me at: admin@ashleighmagee.comIG: @AshmageecoachFB: @Ashleigh Magee Coaching
