James Lapine collaborated with Stephen Sondheim to create three musicals — 'Sunday in the Park with George,' 'Into the Woods,' and 'Passion.' "We're very, very different," Lapine says. "I tend to jump into the deep end of things and figure out how to swim. And Steve is very analytical and doesn't start writing until he knows exactly where he's going." Lapine has written a new book about the making-of 'Sunday in the Park' called 'Putting it Together.' We all went gung ho on the 'oul home improvements during lockdown whether that was painting the gaff, doing up the garden or treating ourselves to some new furniture. 'Into the world we're thrown. Like a dog without a bone.'

In this week’s episode, Amrit interviews Jake Heilbrunn, an international TEDx speaker, best-selling author, host of Curious with Jake Heilbrunn Podcast and Head of Partnerships at Conscious Counsel.Purpose consists of the central motivating aims of your life. It is the reason why you get up in the morning. Purpose can guide your life decisions, influence behavior, shape goals, offer a sense of direction, and create meaning. Purpose can heal. Purpose can heal anxiety and so much more.Jake and Amrit talk about Jake’s anxiety healing journey, his path towards self-discovery and purpose, and his greatest lessons learned along the way.At the age of seventeen, Jake started university and began to break out with hives, rashes all over his body and soon after with anxiety. He was on a path of pressure, a path based on expectations of others, a path where he certainly was not happy and was causing more pain than good.Jake wanted to change. He wanted to pursue his dreams. He felt the urge to experience another way of life, a journey of self-discovery. At the age of 18, he took courage and made the hard decision to leave college. He bought a one way ticket to Guatemala where he spent months backpacking through Central America all alone, without a phone and three words of spanish. He wanted to know who he was, what he was capable of and needed to pave his own trail. He listened to his inner voice following his intuition, trusting his instincts that things were going to work out.Jake’s body was telling him something, something in him wasn’t aligned. Taking this new path, not only helped him recover from the rash, but also helped him figure out who he was, unrevealing all the opportunities that have led his life to where he is today. He also discovered the importance of having courage and following it and how important it is to trust yourself. Furthermore, Amrit and Jake dive deep into a raw conversation about Jake getting this lesson twice but in a different way.A couple of years later, Jake’s life was knocked over. He was hit by Lyme disease. For almost ten months in severe pain and suffering, he had to be in bed. This impacted his entrepreneurial life, having to bow out from the company he co-created from 0 to $2.5M in revenue in just 2 years, his personal and his love life as well. Jake felt completely shut down and all alone.Listening to people who have been through the same chronic disease, surfing the ocean, and being in flow with the waves and every single moment, have helped Jake on his healing journey. This extremely challenging disease helped him discover his hypesensitive energy and learn how to be hyper aligned with saying no and letting go. Jake affirms that the journey towards recovery was about learning to listen. He strongly believes his journey here on earth is intuition and that the universe talks to us in many different ways. It appears with a whisper but if you don't pay attention every time it will appear with more and more force. In this chapter of Inspired Evolution you will learn how to heal anxiety and depression through purpose, learn how to take courage to do things you believe are right by following your intuition, discover the beauty of peace by letting things go and discover that in darkness there is always hope.“I say to myself: How can I be the most aligned with the thing that sets my soul on fire? Because that is the medicine for the world!”“When you pursue something that you choose, even if it is scary, it makes problems less haunting”About Jake Heilbrunn:At the age of nineteen, Jake Heilbrunn published 'Off the Beaten Trail', a memoir that has been described as the young dude version of 'Eat Pray Love' fused with a modern-day 'Into the Wild'....but with a happy ending ;) The book became #1 on Amazon in 2 categories, has over 50 5-star reviews, and has gained the attention of multiple NYT best-selling authors, including Jack Canfield (Chicken Soup of the Soul founder, 500+ Million copies sold), The San Diego Union-Tribune, Psychology Today, and various other media outlets. He is a passionate TEDx speaker, who has spoken to 15,000+ people across 6 countries, to audiences ranging from High School assemblies, Universities like USC, corporations like REMAX and organizations like NAMI. When Jake speaks, his intention is to inspire people to replace anxiety with passion, find what makes them tick, feel at peace with their mental health journey and live purposefully. In 2017, Jake co-founded and built The Idea Collective with his business partner, Taylor Conroy. From scratch, they grew the company from 0 to $2.5M in revenue in 2 years and helped over 200 purpose-driven leaders share their messages with the world, landing talks at TED, TEDx, Fortune 500 companies, Universities and features in Goalcast, Forbes, ABC & Entrepreneur. They helped speakers clarify their message, land their stage, deliver their message and spread it online to elevate their mission and purposeOvernight, on October 17th, 2019, Jakes’s life turned upside-down. Lyme Disease hit him like a train. Bedridden in extreme pain, and unable to work, he stepped down from the company and parted ways with his business partner, no longer fit to work. The next 10 months were the hardest and darkest of his life. He produced a film, 'Waves of Healing,' on his story going through Lyme Disease and the healing power of the ocean and surfing. While he is still on this healing journey and has a long way to go, he is happy to have made tremendous progress and is at least functional again.Jake is the host of the podcast "Curious with Jake Heilbrunn" where he interviews fascinating entrepreneurs, authors, healers, musicians and pro athletes. He loves diving deep with people who inspire him, learning their triumphs, dark moments, failures, successes, lessons and the juicy stuff that can’t be seen on social media.Tune In: Welcome Jake Heilbrunn to the Inspired Evolution!: (00:00:00)Where replacing anxiety with purpose came from:(02:00)“The dark can lead you to your own hero’s journey”Stress symptoms notifying non-alignment:(06:10)“Looking back I understand my body was saying something was wrong”Challenging bits pointing to the right direction:(08:37)“Know when to say no and let go”About recalibrating a mindset: changing paths to deal with anxiety and then getting knocked with Lyme disease:(15:57)“The inability to relax opened me up to what the lyme presented”Intuition as a gift brought from healing journey:(22:13)“Intuition guides you to your highest invest and joy”The process of labelling Jake’s anxiety:(24:43)“Take time and make space to uncover layers on top of you that are not you”What called Jake in going to Guatemala:(29:09) “Experience something drastically different to figure out who you are”Taking the courage to follow intuition:(32:17)“Take the courage to do what you believe is right”About pivotal moments:(37:26)“The unknown for whatever reason is so much harder to choose”About the challenges worth to take a different path:(39:20)“Pursuing things that you choose, even if scary, makes problems less haunting”The importance of service to others and how it helps Jake:(43:01)“Don't ask what the world needs, ask what makes you come alive and do that”Jake Heilbrunn’s book and film:“Off the Beaten Trail: A Young Man’s Soul-Searching Journey Through Central America” book by Jake Heilbrunn: https://amz.run/4Ox2 - “a book that every young man should read. This week, we're gushing over Mariah's new memoir and getting 'Into' juicy news regarding Demi Lovato's engagement split, Kimye's marital status, and much more!
In this week's episode, we welcome the wonderful Jude Rogers into RBP's very own Gridworld. Live from her native Wales, the far-from-obscure Jude reviews her career as a music scribe from The Llanelli Star to The Word, revisiting interviews with megastar-in-the-making Adele Atkins and wholly reformed cocaine fiend Tony Bennett. Jude also reflects on a 2008 thinkpiece about the Beach Boys' influence on Fleet Foxes, the latter having just "dropped" a rather fine new album, Shore, with minimum fanfare. Additionally, Jude offers her thoughts on the multifarious splendours of Prince's Sign 'O' the Times, the 1987 "double" album oft regarded as his crowning achievement. Hosts Mark, Barney & Jasper reference contemporary reviews of the record and ponder the influence on the purple maestro of departed Revolutionaries Wendy & Lisa. After noting the passing of blue-eyed soul man Roy ('Treat Her Right') Head – with nods to a nice 1966 profile of the Texan by Britain's Bill Millar – your hosts and their guest hear the first of three clips from Martin Aston's 1986 interview with Sonic Youth, wherein Kim, Lee, Steve and Thurston (new solo album out this week!) discuss, among many other matters, obscure guitars and their interpretation of fellow Manhattaniite Madonna's 'Into the Groove(y)'. The episode concludes with a round-up of particularly tasty additions to the RBP librarium, including a 1966 report on "psychedelics", a 1972 interview with the impressively recalcitrant Bill Withers, a 1988 Smash Hits encounter 'twixt Chris Heath and wannabe-soul boys Wet Wet Wet...and pieces about neglected Motown siren Kim Weston and "postmodern-cabaret" man Max Raabe. Pieces discussed: Adele, Tony Bennett, Beach Boys influence, Prince, Princer, Princest, Wendy & Lisa, Roy Head, Roy Head: Club Lingerie, Sonic Youth audio, Psychedelics, Beach Boys, Bill Withers, Sex Pistols, Judas Priest, Wet Wet Wet, Elastica, Louise Criscione, Kim Weston, Salt-N-Pepa and Max Raabe. In the 1980s a young anthropologist entered the Amazon rainforest to try to find and live amongst a previously uncontacted tribe, known locally as the Outcasts. Feared by neighbouring groups through stories of secretiveness and violence, they were mythologised as spirit people. Laura's only companion on her trip was her nine-year-old daughter Emilia. Venturing deep into the forest, Laura and Emilia found the group and lived on their fringes for months. But with the Huaorani initially hostile and refusing to engage, Emilia became increasingly ill. Laura faced a life-defining decision: leave the forest with her daughter or send her away and stay alone. As Laura tells her incredible story, an immersive binaural forest soundscape guides the way. Recorded in the Amazon by multi-award-winning sound designer Gareth Fry and mixed with Laura's taped forest recordings, we join Laura on a surprising journey deep under the forest canopy. In midsummer week, Radio 3 enters one of the most potent sources of the human imagination. 'Into the Forest' explores the enchantment, escape and magical danger of the forest in summer, with slow radio moments featuring the sounds of the forest, allowing time out from today's often frenetic world.

The bus featured on the film 'Into the Wild' has been removed from it's remote Alaska location. In 1992 the bus was inhabited by 24-year-old adventurer Chris McCandless. His story was told by author Jon Krakauer in the 1996 book Into The Wild. In 2007 the book was adapted into a film directed by Sean Penn. This bus was in the middle of nowhere AL, located in the northern end of Denali National Park. The closest town is about 30 miles away and to reach it, you have to cross the fast-flowing Teklanika River. They had to move this bus because it this dangerous tourist attraction and people kept trying to make the trip to this bus, Two people have died trying. The most recent was killed when she was swept underwater while trying to cross the river with her husband. Five tourists looking for the bus were rescued - one with frostbite - after becoming lost 13 miles from where they were supposed to be. All in all There were 15 bus-related search and rescue operations by the state between 2009 and 2017. If you're not familiar with the story or film in 1992 Chris hitchhikes into AL on a quest for self discovery. His last ride drops him off on a rugged road called Stampede trail. This trail was developed back in the 1930s by gold prospectors and later became a road for the state of AK. A bridge was never built over the near by Teklanika river. When Chris crossed the river in April the water level was still low. Snow and ice from the mountains hadn't started to thaw. He makes it across the river and keeps following the trail. He was hoping to walk all the way to the Bering Sea, but one day he reached a clearing and saw bus 142 which would be the eventual resting point for Chris. Based in Atlanta, GA Asphalt Valentine got its start in the early 2000's. signing with Chavis Records now HighVolMusic and released their debut Strip Rock Roll in 2008. The band toured the U.S. with Mama Kin from Sweden on the 'Summer of Sin Tour'. The album received high praise as one of rock’s new bands to watch. In 2013 the band self-released their 'Into the Red' E.P. as well as released a video for the track 'Living Dreams'. In 2015 the band began working on new material for what is now 'Twisted Road' and released a video for the track 'The Only' before going on hiatus. 'The Only' was originally conceived when the band was approached by author/film maker/adventurist Joey Shonka to write some music for one of his documentary-style films about his years long journey across the entire Andes Mountains range in South America - a journey he did alone. The video contains footage of the recording sessions as well as clips from Shonka's latest self-shot movie 'The Shonkadventure'. While filling in on vocals for another band, Joe Flynt began to get the ‘itch’ to get Asphalt Valentine back in motion. Upon returning from the road, Joe reached out to the rest of the band to get things started. With renewed excitement and energy, the band returned to work on the recordings and resigned with HighVolMusic in 2019 before putting the final touches on the album. 'Twisted Road' was recorded at Dirty Little Secret Studios in Atlanta, GA and is self-produced with mixing by Andy Reilly (Asia, Praying Mantis, UFO) at Muse Productions. 40,000 miles, two years and 17 countries: travel across the Americas from Alaska to Argentina with overlanding expert Dan Grec. This is one of the world's most epic road trips and we have a front row seat. The term 'Overlanding' refers to self-reliant expedition style adventures, usually in 4x4 vehicles and to remote locations. Think of it like extreme road tripping. Welcome to Plot Depot! This week we cover Joseph Campbell's Hero's Journey and break down each section using 'Into the Spider-Verse'. Outlines don't always work. The Hero's Journey is one of the most popular ones used by fantasy authors. It certainly doesn't work for everyone, nor should it be prescriptive. In this episode, we aim to understand how each section can move the character's inner journey alongside the physical one. We might end up breaking our books, or possibly fix them! Happy writing!Support the show (http://Ko-fi.com/deadlinecity)
