I know as I release this podcast, a lot of men are going to look at the title and immediately write it off. “A real man,” after all, “doesn’t care how he looks.” While it’s a phrase I hear quite often, it just isn’t true. Washington, Alexander the Great, Theodore Roosevelt and, more recently, Jordan Peterson (to name a few) are all men who knew the usefulness of their appearance. That, to me, is the power of being conscious of your style – not to peacock, but to perform. And, today, I’m joined by my friend and a man extremely qualified to talk about how to level up your style. His name is Aaron Marino of Alpha M and today, we talk about the functionality of style, how what you wear communicates to people who you are, how dressing well helps instill a sense of respect in yourself, and how improved style improves your life. SHOW HIGHLIGHTS Being well-groomed A competitive world You’re personal brand Opportunity for improvement Taking the next step Dressing with purpose Identifying body type Stretching your budget Ask for assistance Assessing yourself Stay simple and classic Looking too young Decision fatigue Finding congruency Your best foot forward AARON MARINO My guest today is a longtime friend and supporter of Order of Man, Aaron Marino. I met Aaron years ago when I attended his men’s conference, StyleCon (which later became Menfluential) and have been able to get to know him, his background as a gym owner and, later, someone who would go on to help millions of men level up their style, appearance, and confidence. He’s got over 6,000,000 YouTube Subscribers and owns multiple businesses but it’s been a long road to get to this point. And, today we talk about that journey and why he knows style is a powerful tool in every man’s toolbelt. 30 DAYS TO BATTLE READY Gents, we now have nearly 10,000 men who have gone through the new (and free) Battle Ready program. Favorite Success Quote “Success does not always look like what you hope it will “~Anonymous Key Points 1. Focus on Fit No matter what your clothing budget is, always focus on fit first. A $20 shirt from Old Navy can look better than a $300 Tommy Bahama shirt if it the fit is better. Be sure to try on different sizes of clothing for different brands and styles as a medium in one brand name may be too small in another. Realize that a tighter budget is not an excuse for bad style. Look for those few key wardrobe items and buy a quality article of clothing that fits like a glove. 2. The Goal of Style is to Increase Confidence The ultimate goal of improving your style and your grooming is to increase your confidence. When your body looks great and your clothes look great, you are going to feel great. When you put your best foot forward, you will have increased confidence and self esteem, and this will lead to an increase in opportunities and relationship successes. 3. Learn to Differentiate Between Constructive and Deconstructive Criticism Any entrepreneur, businessman, or public figure is going to attract a far amount of controversy, and with this controversy always comes criticism. This criticism typically comes in one of two forms either constructive or deconstructive. Constructive criticism, although uncomfortable, will help you to grow and improve yourself as a man and a leader. Deconstructive criticism on the other hand will do nothing but toxifiy your life and lower your self esteem. Seek constructive criticism and cut out as many sources of deconstructive criticism as you can.

Marietta Stories | Crazy cool stories from the community builders of Marietta, Georgia
Some of Aaron Marino’s biggest impacts happened in a few brief moments. The first one was when his mom bought him a gym membership. Another was the moment his wife bought him a video camera in 2008. Both led to life altering decisions, the first to own a gym the second to do videos to help men with advice on grooming, dating and fashion. Of course, there were problems along the way. Failed businesses, debt and selling beer from a golf cart. But each time, Aaron got up and started again. Now he runs a men’s fitness, grooming and men’s fashion Youtube channel called AlphaM and 6 businesses. He’s grown the Youtube channel to 3 million subscribers and continues putting out content weekly to help guys with stuff they need to know. Style, although it is so often overlooked, really is a critical component of helping you become a better man. More often that not, the way you look and the way you show up says a lot to other people about who you are. My guest today, Antonio Centeno with Real Men, Real Style, shares with us how important style is, the benefits of improving the way you look, what core components you should consider when improving your wardrobe, and how you can become a man of style. Antonio Centeno I initially came across Antonio’s work with Real Men, Real Style as I was considering launching Order of Man in early 2015. And since then, I’ve been able to build a relationship and friendship with him. This man knows a ton about style and fashion – and not just clothing – but the psychology of increasing your style, body language, manners and mannerisms, and just about anything else that will help you increase your overall presence in the world. He is the founder of Real Men, Real Style, like I previously mentioned, and has over 1,000,000 subscribers on his YouTube channel. We talk about it a little in the show but he’s got over 700 vidoes there and literally thousands of articles, videos, and courses that will help you understand how clothing fits into the conversation of masculinity. He is also the co-founder of Men’s StyleCon along with Aaron Marino with I Am Alpha M. We do talk a little about that during the show but it is definitely something you should consider attending if you really want to become a man of style. Legendary Life | Transform Your Body, Upgrade Your Health & Live Your Best Life
Ted Ryce: How To Become A Successful Public Speaker Part 2 I’m back with a part 2 of how to become a successful speaker. Alan had some follow up questions so of course I obliged! Hey Ted, Thanks for getting back to me. That is an awesome idea! So the questions I have include: What skills do you need to work on daily to become a great public speaker? Do you have any courses or books you recommend? How do you land your first public speaking gig? What should you charge, how do you charge as you get better? How do you calculate speaking prices? How do you prepare for a talk? How can you create a public speaking conference or workshop with other speakers who can compliment your services and value you offer? How do you sell a conference to get a good turnout at your event? How do you make yourself memorable to the audience you are speaking to? How do you convert public speaking audiences to your programs or services? These are some of the questions I had off the top of my head with respect to become a speaker. I look forward to the podcast on this. Will you let me know when it will be released? I am looking to start speaking soon for free as leverage to promote my business and add value. Keep up the great work!! Thank You! Question: What skills do you need to work on daily to become a great public speaker? Do you have any courses or books you recommend? Answer: I’ve already talked about Thomas Plummer’s Public Speaking Course, Toastmasters, and Improv Acting Classes. You should do a Google search for public speaking seminars in your area as well. Dale Carnegie has courses all around the country. I’ve also heard great things about Michael Port’s speaking seminar. Here are some resources to get you started: - You may not have heard of Roger but he’s helped the who’s who of celebrities. I watched the Tony Robbins Netflix documentary I Am Not Your Guru and he was doing the vocal warm ups found in this CD. - by Garr Reynolds - by Garr Reynolds - Nancy Duarte’s Ted Talk: Question: How do you land your first public speaking gig? What should you charge, how do you charge as you get better? How do you calculate speaking prices? Answer: I’ve done a few seminars and talks before but I’ll tell you how I landed my first speaking gig since I’ve been serious about speaking. I interviewed Aaron Marino of I Am Alpha M and after the talk I said I liked his message and thought he was a good guy. We continued talking and he told me about StyleCon and asked me to speak at it. The way I landed my first keynote was a bit different. I connected with a person who had been listening to my podcast. We ended up talking and I offered her some assistance on a problem she had. I never expected anything back. Then she said there was an event that she was a part of and they needed a speaker. She had been listening to the podcast and remembered that I wanted to do more public speaking. She connected me with the event planner and we spoke on the phone…and boom! I had my first paid keynote speech! Question: How do you prepare for a talk? Answer: Great question! First, I ask the event planner a LOT of questions about the attendees and what their ideal outcome would be from my talk. Then, Gisele and I work to create a flow of the talk and she helps design a slide show to supplement the presentation. (A quick note about slides…the slides should augment your presentation. But it’s about you and the way to communicate with the audience. NOT the slides!) After we have the rough draft, I run through the talk over and over refining the flow of the talk as well as the slide presentation. I practice one or two times a day EVERY day leading up to my talk. And I do what it takes to be prepared. Practice, practice, practice! That’s the key! Lastly, I memorize the flow of the talk but I don’t memorize the talk. If you’re trying to remember the exact words then it will take you out of flow. And your audience can feel that. At the end of the day, it’s about creating an authentic connection. Not regurgitating content. I do my best to tell stories and entertain while delivering the best information I have. Question: How can you create a public speaking conference or workshop with other speakers who can compliment your services and value you offer? How do you sell a conference to get a good turnout at your event? That’s outside of my experience so far. I recommend that you connect with other speakers and on put something together locally. Promote it on social media and through your content beforehand to see if anyone is interested. Question: How do you make yourself memorable to the audience you are speaking to? How do you convert public speaking audiences to your programs or services? The answer to your first question is to strive to master the art of public speaking. Be a student of the art and read all the books and articles you can. And attend all the seminars and courses you can. Most importantly: get out there and speak! The answer to your seconds question is a little different. I know what you’re asking but I want to tell you this. You cannot “convert” anyone. Marketing is becoming less and less effective. I know you didn’t mean it like that but I wanted to say it out loud. People are smart and you can’t convert them or change their mind. THEY change their minds based on what you have to offer. What you CAN do is to deliver the best information you have in the most powerful way possible. After that, you offer the opportunity to work with you. Ask them to come and see you at the back of the room if they’d like to talk more. Then you offer what you have. And the best “sales” advice I’ve ever received is from Zig Ziglar in his Secrets of Closing the Sale. You can listen to it for free on Youtube: Conclusion At the end of the day, becoming a successful public speaker is like anything else. It requires drive, discipline, developing the skills, time and hard work! I hope this serves you well and puts you on the right path towards speaking success!
This week I speak with Youtube expert Aaaron Marino who has over 1 million subscribers.
Imagine running a business that starts to flounder, with $40,000 in monthly overhead. Imagine having to use credit cards to make sure your staff gets paid. Imagine being that entrepreneur, earning less than the person you have cleaning your bathrooms. Imagine walking away with a mountain of debt and a bankruptcy under your belt from that failed venture. That's exactly what happened to Aaron Marino. Today, Aaron is leading seven successful businesses, but he didn't get here without blood, sweat, tears and sleepless nights. He's in a position where he can look back and feel gratitude for the lessons, such as the time he had to take a part-time job driving a beverage cart at a golf course, just to earn money to keep his first business afloat. Listen in as he shares his top 10 business lessons he has learned, as an entrepreneur. This list is real, raw and may lead some of you "Wantrepreneurs" running for the hills. That's okay, as entrepreneurship can be the hardest job you'll ever have, but it's also potentially the most rewarding, liberating and fulfilling, especially if you follow Aaron's list to create your own dream business. Confidence is a tricky thing. It's the the age-old adage of what came first the chicken or the egg. What comes first, confidence or the daily actions to get you to the life you deserve? My guest today, Aaron Marino with IAmAlphaM helps us answer that question and teaches us how style, not just your clothes, but your grooming, your communication, and the way you show up will help you be the confident man you want to be. Podcast Shownotes: Order of Man, Episode 43 Website: Order of Man
This episode was based on a revisitation of my September 2012 post Dressing the (Smaller)Man. Being as I'm six feet tall, I can only approach this topic from a hypothetical perspective. So I decided to bring on two of my good friends who are both style experts and on the shorter end of the spectrum. Aaron Marino runs I Am Alpha M (http://iamalpham.com/), a hugely popular men's style site and YouTube channel. Aaron puts out daily videos that cover topics like dress, grooming, and fitness and has one of the largest, most abundant personalities of anyone I've ever met. Brock McGoff runs The Modest Man (http://themodestman.com/), a menswear site dedicated entirely to helping men of shorter stature learn how to dress to their proportions and ensure that their style game is always on point. Brock puts his money where his mouth is and is one of the best dressed, most confident men I know. In the episode we cover topics like: Aaron and Brock's Archetypes How and why they both started caring about men's style The biggest challenges short guys face when trying to dress better How to have the right attitude when it comes to custom clothing Why being short is only one aspect of a man's physical presentation to the rest of the world Should short guys wear elevator shoes and other height-enhancing articles of clothing. Show notes can be found at: http://wp.me/p2nB1Z-2eX If you're sick of feeling like your clothes don't adequately express who you are, pick up my new course called Style as Storytelling. It uses examples that span both time and culture to demonstrate four key ways in which men have always used their appearance to improve their lives. http://masculine-style.com/product/st...
