In this engaging conversation, three besties and naturopathic doctors discuss the misconceptions surrounding women's health, particularly regarding fatigue and emotional wellness…. like the conversations we have on our weekends away together, just recorded.  They emphasize the importance of community, mindset, and self-worth in navigating health challenges.  The discussion highlights the need for women to acknowledge their feelings, challenge societal norms, and prioritize their well-being.  The doctors share personal insights and actionable steps for listeners to take charge of their health and embrace their journeys. Takeaways The power of community in women's health is transformative. Misconceptions about health, especially for women over 35, need to be addressed. Mindset plays a crucial role in achieving health goals. Acknowledging emotions is essential for personal growth and healing. Women often feel pressure to be productive, which can lead to burnout. Self-worth is a foundational aspect of health and wellness. Data can empower women to make informed health choices. It's important to create space for feelings without judgment. Women need to prioritize their desires alongside responsibilities. Health is a holistic journey, not just about supplements.   Chapters 00:00 Introduction to Important Conversations 08:49 Tired of Common Misconceptions 12:33 Mindset and Its Impact on Health 29:18 Navigating Emotions and Self-Worth 40:50 Final Thoughts and Actionable Steps   Stay Wild.   Follow Dr. Sarah Vadeboncoeur on INSTAGRAM Follow Dr. Leigha Saunders on INSTAGRAM Connect with Dr. Michelle on INSTAGRAM This episode is brought to you by: www.the-wild-collective.com Ready to reclaim your Wild? JOIN THE WAITLIST Learn more about The Poppy Clinic: www.poppyclinic.com Is Naturopathic Medicine for you: LEARN MORE HERE Take our HORMONE QUIZ Are you a clinician looking for more impact? START HERE

On today's episode of the podcast, we have a conversation about faith and disability with Sammie's good friend, Gianna Zemet. Gianna is a middle school special education math teacher in the Upper St. Clair School District located in Pittsburgh, PA. In addition to teaching, Gianna faithfully serves in her church's Autism Ministry and Student Ministry alongside her husband, Jeremiah. She clearly believes that God has placed a clear calling on her life to teach kids with disabilities and to mentor students/young adults. Our hope is that this conversation would encourage you to think deeply about your theology of disability. How does the Gospel inform the way we think about disability? Though we all have different abilities, our stories are the same. We're more alike than we think. We are all made in the image of God. We all share a story of struggle and find hope in the gospel of Jesus. You'll hear us talk about how to cultivate compassion paired with dignity, how to emphasize "people first language," and practical ways to lean into your community. Here are some things we mentioned in this episode: North Way Christian Community's Autism Ministry"People First Language"Be sure to stay up to date with Abundant Life: You Were Made for More by visiting our blog - and if you're loving the podcast, send guest recommendations to us or leave us a star-rating/review on your favorite listening platform to spread the word about the you were made for more message. You Were Made for More Social Media: FacebookTwitterInstagram

Summer is in full swing, and with summer for academics comes the typical question, “Do you have summers off?” I can't speak for all academics, but summers don't mean the lack of work, but the shifting of work. We go from our primary focus being on teaching and into other pursuits that we don't have time for during the school year. Typically that means research and writing.  For me, it is no different. I've been doing a lot of writing, working on the Experience by Design book and making some progress. Of course, I think that everything I am writing is terrible. At some point soon you can be judge at how bad or good it is. But rather than thinking of “bad' or “good”, I'm thinking more in terms of “done” or “not done.” And “done” is better.Another part of my summer is doing this podcast. When this was started over 6 years ago, the biggest challenge was getting people who wanted to chat about their work. Then gradually PR firms would contact me about their clients who could appear on the show. Now, getting guests is no longer the hardest part. Rather, it is getting the episodes out to keep up with the number of conversations that I'm having. This means that I'm going to try to go to launching an episode a week. This is no small feat given that this is a one-person operation. Communicating with guests, having an introductory conversation, recording the conversation, recording intros and outros, audio engineering, loading it up, updating the website, creating promotional materials. All of it is me. That's a lot of work. The biggest payoff is the conversations that I get to have with the people who appear. I think about how I would have never have learned as much as I have and made the connection that I have if it wasn't for the podcast. And that's pretty cool. And makes the work worth it.My guest today has been part of many different design projects, including the Most Important Conversation Initiative. Chad Lefevre and I were once neighbors, me living in Detroit and he being born in Windsor. Has since traveled the world doing design work. From the United Way in Calgary (we also have in common that we worked for United Way) to working with thought leaders at Design Shop to tackle society's most complex problems (like peace in the Korean peninsula), he's covered a lot of ground. We do likewise in our conversation. Along with those topics, we look at the impact of AI on society and the workforce, and how we need to design a new way of being. We talk about how we are entering the Creative Economy, and how creativity is the new currency. We talk about even though people are resistant to change, change is the only constant in life and this moment requires it. And finally we talk about through our conversations maybe we can make a shared reality that allows us to change things together. The Most Important Conversation - https://tmicglobal.comChad Lefevre - https://chadlefevre.comChad Lefevre Substack - https://chadlefevre.substack.com

Are we avoiding important conversations about death?

Episode 190: Hosts Richard Kyte and Scott Rada discuss the complex and often uncomfortable topic of what constitutes a "good death" in modern society. They discuss the challenges of medical technology's ability to prolong life, even when the quality of life has significantly diminished. Kyte emphasizes that death is inherently painful, both physically and emotionally, and argues that the focus should be on avoiding unnecessarily prolonged suffering. The hosts explore various aspects of end-of-life care, highlighting the importance of advanced directives and open family conversations. Kyte strongly advocates for individuals to prepare comprehensive end-of-life documents, including appointing a durable power of attorney and clearly communicating personal wishes to family members. A significant portion of the conversation addresses the controversial topic of medical aid in dying. While 10 states currently have laws allowing terminally ill patients to choose medical assistance in ending their lives, Kyte expresses reservations. He believes the medical profession's primary role should be to save lives and relieve suffering, not to end them actively. The hosts also discuss the modern practice of "outsourcing" death care, contrasting current funeral practices with historical approaches where families were more directly involved in preparing and mourning their deceased loved ones. They argued that this distancing has contributed to society's discomfort with discussing death. About the hosts Scott Rada is a digital strategist with Lee Enterprises, and Richard Kyte is the director of the D.B. Reinhart Institute for Ethics in Leadership at Viterbo University in La Crosse, Wisconsin. He is also the author of "Finding Your Third Place: Building Happier Communities (and Making Great Friends Along the Way)."

Nate is an OB-GYN and a maternal-fetal medicine specialist, and he is one of our favorite returning podcast guests, not just because he's a great talker but also because it's really nice to have a doctor who can both provide medical answers to questions that come up around pregnancy, and help you have the best possible experiences with your own doctor. We're discuss some big issues that arise during pregnancy and the many prenatal doctor's visits; about the distinction between self-management and calling your doctor (when do you know if something is normal-bad or bad-bad?), and we'll talk about just how subjective that line actually is. We also talk about risks and tradeoffs and about the kinds of postpartum issues that are worth addressing while still pregnant (we're looking at you, depression and anxiety). The Unexpected, and this conversation, are meant to help people be much better prepared for what they may face in their pregnancies and to help better navigate conversations with doctors — both the expected conversations and the unexpected ones.Subscribe to (the new and improved!) How many times have you found yourself headed into the company holiday party thinking, "I hope I don't end up stuck in a conversation in the corner with someone"? Then, five minutes later, you're stuck in a boring conversation in the corner with someone? Or, you're trying to make a statement around the boss during a group conversation and you just can't figure out what to say? Or (and maybe worst of all), you're in a meeting and in front of all of the influential people someone asks, "So what do you think?" Impromptu speaking isn't just important around the holidays, but this time of year we're all more likely to be in a conversation with people who challenge our ability to communicate effectively. Today we bring you a great mentor on the topic, Matt Abrahams, who's not only an expert communicator, but he's so good that he teaches the topic at Stanford University and hosts a podcast on the topic. That's not all the communicating we'll do, though. We'll also discuss a recent Wall Street Journal piece which shares how much money people think they need to make before they'll finally be happy. That will lead us into a deeper conversation about what it really takes to be happy...and it turns out the answer might not be what you expect. That's not all! Of course, we'll also have some trivia from Doug, share the life line question, and more. She works in race and gender, giving organizations, groups, and companies the tools to enact anti-racist and gender-inclusive values within their organizations to create a productive, inclusive culture. Veronique shapes mindsets, builds skills, and creates lasting impact through heritage month and identity holiday workshops, targeted trainings, and consulting. Her business prompted V to retire from childcare, where she spent more than 20 years as a caregiver of all sorts alongside other professional endeavors. Veronique is still very invested in the lives of all her littles around the world, and she loves them all dearly, especially since she gets to give them back to their parents! Setting the Stage:In this episode, we're delving deep into a subject that's both challenging and incredibly important. Veronique, Papa Rick, and I discuss how these topics that were once hidden are now in the spotlight, affecting conversations within our families.Empowering Kids for Life:Veronique brings her expertise to the table, shedding light on the vital process of preparing our kids for the realities of the world. We talk about the balance between proactive preparation and overloading them with information, focusing on the importance of laying the foundation for understanding.Grasping Teachable Moments:I know firsthand the magic of seizing natural opportunities to talk about diversity and identity. Veronique and I chat about how those everyday moments—whether it's a question in the store or an observation at school—can be transformed into teachable moments that nurture empathy and open dialogue.Building Resilience and Confidence:We touch on the role of media and stories in shaping our children's perspectives on race and gender. We explore how introducing diverse characters and experiences can instill pride and empathy. Papa Rick chimes in with a touching personal story that highlights the significance of fostering resilience and self-assuredness.Creating an Open and Safe Space:Veronique and I delve into the significance of creating an environment where our kids feel safe discussing these important topics. We discuss how these conversations should be ongoing, not one-off events, fostering a culture of openness and understanding.Wrapping Up with Hope:As we wrap up this episode, we reflect on the power of small actions and conversations in shaping a more inclusive society. Papa Rick and I agree that these discussions are the cornerstone of raising compassionate and well-informed individuals. Conclusion:Thank you for joining us on this incredible journey. This week we're continuing our back-to-school series with some key conversations to have with our kids before school gets rolling again. Over the years I've had the privilege of interviewing many of the top authorities in parenting, and I'm always reminded of the importance of knowing and speaking directly into our kids' core needs.    With this in mind, I came up with three topics I want to cover with my kids and also share with you. Spoiler alert: they include belonging, perspective, and kindness. I can't think of more important reminders for our kids at the beginning of a school year considering the inevitable highs and lows that are coming their way.    Oh, and a BIG bonus for today's show is that Heather MacFadyen is with us. As always, she gives lots of wisdom while making me laugh all the way through.    Job 42:5 is one of my favorite verses in the BIble and I'll end with this: “My ears had heard of you but now my eyes have seen you.”   My prayer this school year is that our kids will not just hear of our faith, but truly experience it with their own eyes. Let's kick-off the year with words that will lead them in the right direction.

We are still here in lovely Phoenix, AZ for the Women in HVACR 19th Annual Conference! Today, we are joined by Ben Poole. If you do not know Ben, he is the founder of HVAC Tactical and Trusted Heating and Cooling. His beginnings in the HVAC industry were cleaning in his father's shop and helping his grandfather fabricate sheet metal ductwork. He spent several years mastering residential and commercial installation before entering the service side of the trades. After his father's business closed, he worked for several HVAC companies before opening Trusted Heating and Cooling in Tucson, AZ. He opened another branch in Austin, TX, sold his original branch a year later, and finally moved to Austin with his father. In 2018, he launched HVAC Tactical, a clothing brand dedicated to the HVAC industry. His life has revolved around the trades and he considers it a blessing as it has allowed him to learn how to run a business, master the game of sales, better communicate, manage teams, manage client expectations, and ultimately allowed him to learn how to be a better leader. In this episode, we talked about what HVAC Tactical Awards is, how to become a social media influencer, the importance of having time with your families and loved ones, and of course, the one question he wishes people would ask him more often but don't! We kept it real in this episode so sit back, relax, and enjoy this one! Cheers!

Our friend Joshua Paul Chamberlain returns to the Relentlessly Resilient podcast to tell the story of his own experiences as a transracial adoptee. As a Black man raised in a white Utah family he has had his share of bullying and awkward experiences, but he has also sought out opportunities to encourage connections across race, culture, religion, and more. As a civil rights activist and outspoken individual, he answers questions from our hosts, and a listener, about important conversations on race, mixed background families, and more. He points out the importance of allowing these conversations to take place, even when difficult. He emphasizes the need to make room for grace, as we all will make mistakes as we navigate the complicated history and personal stories that surround race, society, and prejudices. Even though we live in challenging times we can become Relentlessly Resilient as we lean on and learn from one another’s experiences. Hosts Jennie Taylor and Michelle Scharf are no strangers to overcoming adversity; Michelle lost her husband to cancer, while Jennie’s husband Major Brent Taylor was killed in the service of our country. Their stories bond them together and now listeners can join them weekly as they visit with others enduring challenges and who teach us how they are exercising resiliency, finding value in their grief, and purpose in moving forward. Are you having effective conversations with your clients? To say that the Arizona real estate market has been evolving over the last few years would be an understatement. For agents, it's a huge part of our job just keeping up with the trends and changes that are happening on a sometimes-weekly basis. If things are that difficult for those of us inside the business, how difficult must it be for our clients, who might be getting bad information to begin with?   It's our job to be experts in the real estate market and in turn to be having the necessary conversations with our clients about their best options moving forward. Our clients are coming to us with the hopes of getting into a new home that's going to meet all their expectations, and sometimes this will be an easy task. But most of the time compromises will need to be met depending on their price, location, etc., and that is where we as their representatives can do the best service for them as real estate experts.   “I think that the business right now should change into conversations with your clients on helping them strategize and really understanding the long term.” – Steve   Anyone who is looking to get into a new home, whether it be through renting or buying, is investing in the market. The difference between the two right now is whether you're investing in your own future through buying or helping to invest in somebody else's future by renting. We're in the business of helping people invest in their future, to help them create legacy and build wealth.   “A different way to look at it is if you had two different parties, one decided to wait (and rent) and one decided to buy, the person who decided buy has earned over $100,000 in equity in a year on that property and the other person is renting and continues to make somebody else that money.” – Bernie   When we best serve our clients, we do good by ourselves both professionally and personally. Having those conversations with our clients about what is in their best interests given how the market is behaving is the necessary step to being the best possible representative for our client's future.   “If you can plant that seed and say, ‘This is what it would look like if we follow this plan. You want $5,000 A month in passive income? Well, here's the steps we need to take to get there, and here's how we're going to refinance it, here's how we're going to utilize it.' There's so many variables to the plan, but those are the conversations that are going to bring you to the surface, and they're also going to create more referrals, more business because you didn't just go in for the sale.” – Steve   “It's so important not to underestimate our consumers today. Don't underestimate them, don't make assumptions about what they do and don't know, right? And really, truly try to understand what matters to them.” – Bernie   Hey you! There is just so much to unpack this week, from tons of relationship news to serious topics of mental health and anti-semitism. Emma and Julie begin with Will and Jada's episode of Red Table Talk, where they candidly explain Jada's relationship with August Alsina and break down the current state of their marriage. They then report on the horrifying disappearance of Naya Rivera, and some of the details of the story and continued search. Our hearts and prayers are with Naya's son Josey and her entire family. They touch on Armie & Elizabeth Hammer's split after 10 years of marriage. Emma and Julie have a very important, in-depth conversation about DeSean Jackon's anti-Semitic passage posts, the media attention (and lack thereof) around the story, and some personal anecdotes about their Jewish experiences and heritage. This week was also heavy in relationship news: hot new couple Chris Evans and Lily James, Brooklyn Beckham's engagement to Nicola Peltz, and Bill Hader and Rachel Bilson's split. Jesse Tyler Ferguson and Justin Mikita have welcomed a son, Beckett, and we are so happy for the new dads! Plus, Ferguson took home both the "funniest comment" and "best clapback" in our award ceremony - with an epic combination defending his new son's name. Isabel pops in for this week's Bravo debrief at roughly 1:25:26. They break down important elements from this week's episodes of Beverly Hills and New York, plus a few news stories. The Kardashian recap (at about 1:42:00) includes some Larsa Pippen updates, Kourtney's Vogue Arabia interview, and Kylie's stunning Utah trip.
