Skara Brae, Europe's most remarkably preserved Neolithic village, offers a profound connection to the distant past. In this recording, the wind carries its timeless song, mingling with the murmurs of visitors as they explore the site. Captured through the Geofon, the vibrations of wind and footsteps resonate like the ancient village's heartbeat, while the muffled conversations evoke echoes of lives once lived amidst these stone walls. "The original train and water sounds inspired me to create a work that suggested the passage of time and the motion of things - a journey. The field recording was edited and collaged with two Moog Subharmonicon patterns applied to support it and frame the original sounds. It documents an imagined journey over the Forth." In this episode I speak with my good friend Alan Cook. I invited Alan to come on the podcast because he is gay and terrified of what is going to happen in the upcoming election. I wanted to see if we could help him to feel a little more empowered by helping him to separate the fact from fiction in his mind, so he can approach politics and elections in a totally different way that can even lead to personal growth. He said it was helpful to him, so maybe it can be for you too. If you are really nervous about the election, you should check this episode out.Click on the platform of your choice to listen to the latest podcast episode, follow the podcast, and write a review so we can spread the news and reach more people! Moored at Gillingham Pier, there's a boat which has an astonishing history: the paddle steamer the Medway Queen. In the 1920s and 30s she transported thousands of holidaymakers from the Medway towns for day trips to resorts like Sheerness and Margate, Clacton and Southend. But when the Second World War came she was transformed into a minesweeper, and then in 1940 crisscrossed the Channel to Dunkirk seven times in seven days, saving over 7000 Allied troops, becoming one of the stars of the flotilla of Little Ships. In this episode we talk to Alan Cook, whose grandfather was the captain on those perilous Dunkirk crossings, and meet the inspirational volunteers of the Medway Queen Preservation Society, who from the 1980s have worked tirelessly to turn the wreck she had become into the gloriously renovated boat we can visit today. And during the celebrations on the actual day of her 100th birthday we hear from Admiral Lord West and ask, Will the Medway Queen ever be able to head back into open waters under her own steam?Find out how you can visit this historic, heroic paddle steamer at https://www.medwayqueen.co.uk/With thanks to the City of Rochester Society for supporting this podcast. In this episode Holly Oven, Transport Manager of Britannia Alan Cook discusses how she began in the industry only 2 years ago and is still a mere 21 years of age! Holly has always been indirectly involved within the industry, but her initial career path was to be in accounting where she began her training during and after college, until Covid happened. Britannia Alan Cook is a family business which Holly's parents bought in 2008, as Alan Cook Removals, joining Britannia Movers International in 2018. Today Britannia Alan Cook operate 25 vehicles (10 trucks, 1 trailer, 15 vans), have 3 warehouses across 2 sites and employ approximately 40 staff. Britannia Alan Cook specialise in the domestic removals & storage market, self-storage, international relocation and offer a shredding service. Holly's biggest challenge has been having a young and female voice on the telephone, where customers would question her knowledge. Other challenges have been being the boss's daughter, and more recently the tachograph changes. As Holly's chosen career of being within the industry is still so early on there is nothing she would change from her moving past but is excited for what the future has to offer. Holly has several highpoints of being within the industry already, obtaining her CPC qualification, being part of the Removals & Storage Magazine's Women in the Industry feature, and of course being a guest on Moving Matters. We digress away from the standard questions to find out more about the recent BAR Young Movers Group conference in Cambridge. The one thing Holly would like to change within the industry is again the conveyancing system, however on the flip side, if it didn't provide such complications would more companies provide removal services and potentially flood the marketplace? Holly also believes the removal industry and solicitors should be working closer together rather than against each other, and together we touch on legislation. The advice Holly would give herself just starting out within the industry again is to have confidence and believe in yourself, something Holly has been working upon. Also, to find and implement a robust organisation system. In the next 5 years Holly would like to continue her development and undertake more courses, including the BAR Removals Masterclass, and to obtain her Class C licence! And within Britannia Alan Cook, Holly is hoping that a younger management team will be in place, alleviating the pressure from her father. Industry wise Holly hopes we will all be recovering from the expected downturn, an increase in sustainability and environmental practices, electric vans (but not electric trucks), recognition of the industry at governmental level, and finally that the crews get the recognition they thoroughly deserve. Outside of the industry Holly enjoys watching her football team of Norwich City, she is a bookworm, participates in yoga with her mother, and she is a ‘proper' foodie (her words not mine) who enjoys going out for meals and drinks with friends. And as always we end Moving Matters with a funny moving story, or more a quaint one, regarding a move to an old railway signal box on the Norfolk Broads using her father's cruiser as the transportation vessel. Episode 18 Trauma Treatment - Medical vs. Behavioral Watch Now https://youtu.be/_iT2ielQ84U Listen Now Episode 18 We discuss both similarities and differences between medical and clinical trauma approaches within addiction treatment. Topics: What happened when both medical and behavioral treatment joined and the patterns that started to emerge. The relationship between the physiological and the psychological effects of traumaThe direction of medical to clinicalWhy building resilience in early recovery is so important Select Quotes In stabilization and in this early recovery process we have to take the time to empower, encourage, and guide them to build resilience so they can do that deeper work. Or we relegate them to simply giving up. How many people go to the gym in January and do this big workout and are so sore that they never go back. That's exactly the risk we run by going too quickly before clients build enough resilience to tolerate that deeper work, that is why we don't do it at the beginning.Alan Cook, MA, LPC, LAC Episode Transcripts Episode 18 Transcriptso we had what i think is a new and insightful conversation last episode about trauma in particular trauma-informed care and i think allen brings a new perspective uh in that regard that i think is worth engaging the audience in and a little bit after the episode yesterday we kept going forward with trauma-informed language and so forth and there were a couple of topics that we touched upon that i thought would be important just to continue to discuss with you all as well moving forward so uh in that regard one of the things that was brought up was sort of this collision course in time that you've experienced and been witness to about you know sort of clinical and medical interventions taking place you know in my minimal reading of addiction treatment in its history one of those collisions was the bringing in of insurance benefit plans that started dictating care in the early 70s in that regard and i think that's where we can probably maybe start as to where we see these clinical and medical interventions sort of colliding in that way and so i guess the question is uh what did that look like for you and what have you seen in time alan that this collision course has been on a path of and then in relationship to trauma specifically through that lens how did that take place in your eyes wow that's a big question yeah so compacted great uh well what comes up for me as you're talking is what i said toward the end of our last conversation that i think that when medical and behavioral joined they had not a lot of language in common except trauma and so that became the basis for the collaboration that we built we've built an entire system based on this notion of trauma being the common element between medical and clinical and and that's a great idea exceptexcept that physical trauma is actually a physical stress to the body and that seems pretty clear i mean you hurt yourself you're trying that's a trauma in the medical world emotional trauma is a stress that happens emotionally but also requires perception physical trauma doesn't require perception it's simply your body reacts to it and it's a physical response emotional trauma requires perception a person has to perceive that they were traumatized and i think that that's that's gotten us off into the weeds a little bit absolutely that we've made some assumptions that trauma is trauma and all trauma isn't the same there's a pretty specific difference and we've also started to really look at ways that trauma is physical right i think we've really we've created a trajectory of trauma and trauma therapy even within the behavioral health world that treats emotional trauma as a physical trauma and not to say that trauma doesn't present itself in the body or present physiologically however we again it's just sort of reinforcing what you're saying that we've real...
Episode 17 Keys To Understanding Shame and Trauma Watch Now https://youtu.be/EVMebaHmYJc Listen Now Episode 17 With a special guest, we dive into the unique relationship between shame and trauma, and why both should be worked on cohesively and strategically to better the individual's growth. Topics: The relationship between shame and trauma and how one usually doesn't come with the otherHow our clinicians approach an individual who has trauma, and where they start. How the industry is focused on “trauma-informed”, but should also have a heavy focus on shame Select Quotes It is not that trauma that has caused them the problem, it is what they took away about themselves, what they believed about themselves, what they believed they lost, what they believed they disempowered about themselves, or what they had to protect themselves from; that's important to release and relearn. Because most of the time our traumas happen sometime in history, that's the nature of trauma; it's in the past. And we forget that no matter when our trauma happened, we were different then, but we have anchored that trauma in that experience, especially childhood trauma. We were children, we were helpless, we didn't have a lot of skills. So we believe that trauma to be true today, even though our skills have changed. So I approach them from shame, because when somebody grows up, what they bring about that trauma is shame, ‘why couldn't I take care of myself, why couldn't I stop that, I must be a bad person'. If I can release the shame today then I can remind them that they have different skills today than they did back then, and link it differently.Alan Cook, MA, LPC, LAC Episode Transcripts Episode 17 Transcriptall right welcome back to anotherawesome exciting it's awesome andexciting to me so i'm just going to keepsaying it episode of finding peaksumi'vecome in my shortest of shorts todaybecause the viewers were calling on alittle bit more skin jokes aside it'swarm out today here in colorado springsso i'm enjoying the warmth and lettingmy and opening up my legs to the sunhere so i can get a little color sowe all win yeahso hopefully the viewers are winningequally in this regard uh today soi'm joined again i'm brandon burns chiefexecutive officer for peaks recoverycenters joined by my friend colleagueclinton nicholson uh lpclactherapistawesome awesome there you go we finallyafter 20 or so episodes however far weend we have a guest today and aspromised the great alan cook lpc lac isjoining us today um he's been just atremendous asset not only to ourprogramming our our currently our familyprogramming but has also helped us outof the depths of umsome really difficult times at the tailend of covet at least in the 2020 sideof the covet experiencesoa little bit more about yourself pleasealanwhat more can i say i ami'm the chair of theaddiction counselor examiner board atdorainfamous as that might be absolutely ialsohave the dubious distinction of helpingdevelop the competency competencies andall the classes that torture addictioncounselors to become addictioncounselors so which is where we metright in one of those torturous classesyeah one formerinstructor extraordinaire awesome yeahyeah well wonderful i've alwaysgreatly enjoyed my time discussions andenergy with um with you uh alan uhyou've provided a lot to me a lot ofgreat insights for how this industryworks how addiction works mental healthand so forth and souh today i just wanted to kind of goback through the reel and introduce yournarrative around trauma and shame and aswe were kind of talking aboutpre-episode here um there is this commonnotion it feels like from my experiencewhere individuals leave treatment andrecovery falls short on the other sidemaybe it's relapsesomething comes up in that regard andthey say you know what had that priorcenter just worked on my trauma iprobably would have been more successfuland for me there's this cause...

NZ King Salmon has held operating earnings within guidance despite its sales revenue falling by 50 per cent during the level 4 lockdown response to Covid-19.The world's biggest producer of premium king salmon posted operating ebitda of $25.1m for the year ended June 30, the lower end of its half year guidance of $25-$28.5m.Net profit of $18m was 59 per cent up on the previous year. Revenue at $155.3m was down 10 per cent on the previous year and sales volumes fell 16 per cent at 6331 tonnes.Pricing strengthened to $24.54/kg, up 7 per cent.No final dividend will be paid because of Covid-19 uncertainty, higher inventory levels and to ensure prudent cash availability.Trading was now around 20 per cent below pre-Covid levels but managing director and chief executive Grant Rosewarne said there were encouraging signs in export markets, particularly the key US market, which had been hit hard by the virus. The company qualified as an essential service during lockdown so was able to keep harvesting and selling, but harvesting volumes fell during the response and sales were impacted by a slump in the food service and hospitality sectors in its key export markets.Chairman John Ryder said the year had been one of the most challenging in his business career. He thanked staff for seeing the company through the difficult period and said much of its resilience was due to the support of customers, partners, suppliers and shareholders.Rosewarne said with the help of the wage subsidy, the company had been able to keep its 550 staff employed. The company's application to establish New Zealand's first open ocean farm in Cook Strait, 7km north of Cape Lambert, was progressing well with a resource consent hearing expected by the end of the year. With the departure of chief operating officer Alan Cook, a Canadian who returned home after less than a year in the job, the company had decided to split the role to enable more focus on aquaculture and processing operations respectively.Internal appointment Grant Lovell would become general manager aquaculture. The company paid an interim dividend of 2c per share.
