The iconic Cinerama Dome in Hollywood, beloved by filmmakers and film lovers alike, is one of 300 Pacific Theaters screens set to close down permanently after the pandemic. “This was not the outcome anyone wanted, but despite a huge effort that exhausted all potential options, the company does not have a viable way forward,” a Pacific Theaters representative said in a written statement. Pacific Theaters is also the operator of the multiplexes at The Grove and The Americana, which function as important anchors to both shopping centers. The closures come as Los Angeles County recently expanded capacity for indoor moviegoing to 50%— but after over a year with shut doors, the economic effects of the pandemic have proven too catastrophic for smaller chains. Major Hollywood power players took to Twitter to mourn the loss of the ArcLight Hollywood, housed inside a concrete geodesic dome (the only one of its kind in the world) and featured prominently in films like “Once Upon A Time In Hollywood.” Today on AirTalk, we want to hear your thoughts about the Pacific Theaters closures and the loss of LA’s iconic Cinerama Dome. All the President's Minutes is a podcast where conversations about movies, journalism, politics and history meet. Each show we use the seminal and increasingly prescient 1976 film All The President's Men as a portal, to engage with the themes and the warnings of the film resonating since its release. For minute 67, for a second time, I join writer & director of *THE TROUBLE WITH THE TRUTH;* contributor to American Cinematographer & Filmmaker; AMPAS historian; Jim Hemphill. Blake and Jim discuss interviewing Val Kilmer, "auteurism," the paradoxical realism of *President's* , and that *JAWS* has taken the mantle of the most 2020 movie. ** ------------------ About Jim Hemphill ------------------ Jim Hemphill is the award-winning screenwriter and director of THE TROUBLE WITH THE TRUTH ( http://amzn.to/2n9ehhd ) , a critically acclaimed (currently 94% at Rotten Tomatoes ( https://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/the_trouble_with_the_truth/reviews/ ) ) romantic drama starring Lea Thompson and John Shea. The awards season stars are aligning for Booksmart and it was a treat and honor to get to celebrate that at The Dome at the ArcLight Hollywood with director Olivia Wilde and stars Kaitlyn Dever and Beanie Feldstein. The day of our Collider FYC screening for Booksmart, not only was Dever nominated for the BAFTA Rising Star Award, but the script also received a nomination from the WGA for Best Original Screenplay. And on top of that, Feldstein had also just celebrated a Golden Globes nomination for her performance in the film. Watch as Collider's Perri Nemiroff talks to Wilde about the script's journey from the 2009 Blacklist to its release ten years later, how and why the stars decided to become roommates during production, and their notable 'unsung heroes' who helped bring Booksmart to life.
Little Women writer-director Greta Gerwig, stars Saoirse Ronan and Florence Pugh, and casting director Francine Maisler sit down with Perri Nemiroff for a special Collider FYC post-screening Q&A at the ArcLight Hollywood.

Last weekend the ArcLight Hollywood hosted a very special Collider FYC screening of Rocketman, which not only included costumes on display and a lobby DJ blasting Rocketman tunes, but also a post-screening Q&A with director Dexter Fletcher and stars Taron Egerton and Jamie Bell, moderated by Perri Nemiroff. Check out the full Q&A to hear Egerton, Bell and Fletcher talk about the genesis of the film, what it was like for Egerton and Fletcher to reunite after Eddie the Eagle, Bell’s experience working with another Lee Hall-penned script after Billy Elliot, and so much more. #TaronEgerton #Rocketman
The best reviewed movie of the year is here! Holding strong at 99% on Rotten Tomatoes, we headed off to the Arclight Hollywood to see this critical darling. South Korean film director and screenwriter Bong Joon-ho received the prestigious Palme d'Or at the Cannes Film Festival for this movie. Safe to say there ain't nothing remotely like Parasite coming out from American filmmakers. A mixture of genres is blended into this bizarre tale of a poor family infiltrating the lives of a rich family in modern day South Korea. We'll let you know how we felt and how the Arclight audience reacted.
This week, Jordan and Brad (RIP Magi) compare and contrast the Alamo Drafthouse and the Arclight Hollywood to find out….. which is better!!!!! PLUGS: This tweet https://twitter.com/BradBeideman/status/1179578120199753728?s=20 and the Minneapolis Airport.
Double Trouble Feature is a podcast that pairs great, classic, and beloved films with movies… a little more off the beaten path. This week Alex and Jenn spend the entire episode talking about their experience watching Once Upon a Time... in Hollywood at the famous Arclight Hollywood Cinerama Dome in 70mm. They discuss their thoughts, how they'd change the film, and the very unfortunate Bruce Lee scene. Surprisingly they don't ever get around to talking about feet? This week, Brad and Jordan went with guest Allie Wittner to Arclight Hollywood for the first ever REDUX! But don’t worry, we haven run out of theaters to visit. Brad, Jordan, and Allie discuss being canceled, the movie High Life, and Magi calls in from New York. SINEMIA is full-on bankrupt! You can’t get it anymore!!! This week the gang visits ArcLight Hollywood, but there’s a TWIST! This episode, which also features bad audio quality, was originally going to be the PILOT, and Magi and Brad weren’t always going to be hosts! Wow! When we arrived to see Gaspar Noé's Climax at the Arclight Hollywood, we were already in a weird headspace for reasons which you will find out early on in the podcast. The only possible cure for our sickness was Gaspar Noé's Climax and boy did it deliver. Noé took his time early on before the psychedelic sangria kicked in. Halfway through the movie, the opening credits roll and the bad trip commences and it does not stop. Our minds were wiped clean as we experienced a catharsis of bad trip vibes. Ultimately we walked away into a richer universe thanks to Gaspar. An ensemble cast of dancers is joined by Sofia Boutella who gives one of the greatest drug trip performances of all time.

Marvel Studios’ Black Panther has done more than flex international box-office muscle while earning critical raves at home and overseas. The superhero blockbuster also has shaken up Hollywood’s long-held myth that big-budget popcorn flicks about black people, with largely black casts, couldn’t pull in crowds in places like Asia, Russia, the African continent—or even white American audiences. Despite the proven crossover appeal of movies like Beverly Hills Cop and The Color Purple, and the global fan base of stars like Will Smith, Angela Bassett, Denzel Washington, and Samuel Jackson, the major studios too often confined black talent to a celluloid ghetto of stereotyped storylines and clichéd characters. But writer-director Ryan Coogler’s film has become not only one of the highest-grossing movies of all time, across all audiences, but also a significant cultural event, inspiring storytellers of many different types and sparking debate among activists and scholars about the politics of its underlying themes and messages. What will be the long-term impact of this phenomenon? Is this just old school commercialism with a new face, a tectonic shift in cultural representation and opportunity, a one-time aberration, or something else? Black Panther executive producer Nate Moore, UCLA Dean of Social Sciences and author of UCLA’s Hollywood Diversity Report Darnell Hunt, Duke cultural historian and host of the webcast Left of Black Mark Anthony Neal, and Afrofuturist novelist and screenwriter Tananarive Due discussed the film and these questions in a Zócalo/UCLA event titled “Will ‘Black Panther’ Really Change Hollywood?” at the ArcLight Hollywood.

Episode 39 of One Week Only! This week's key film is "The Love Witch," an incredibly detailed & stylistically perfect homage to 1970's horror melodramas, with a modern feminist re-imagining.
