Leddy Hammock Lyrics to “Ready to use the Gifts I've Been Given” by Jana Stanfield & Greg Tamblyn:   “Lately, I've been noticing how much I've been blessed With people to love, peace of mind, and happiness. It makes me want to pass along the love I've received As a way of giving thanks for what's been given to me.”   “I've got a strong heart and I'm ready. I've got a strong love and I'm ready. I'm ready to use the gifts I've been given To make this world a better place to live in.”   “I thought I had to have it all before I could share, Till I realized what's mine to give has always been there. Well, I may not make a difference that the whole world can see, But if I can show more kindness, that's what matters to me.”   “I've got a strong heart and I'm ready. I've got a strong love and I'm ready. I'm ready to use the gifts I've been given to make this world a better place to live in.”

Peter Greer is the CEO of HOPE International, an international microfinance organization that equips people and families facing poverty to launch small businesses to support themselves and their communities. HOPE uses Christ-centered micro-loans and small savings groups to provide people with the temporary capital and the knowledge they need to successfully support themselves and their communities through businesses. Since inception, HOPE has provided more than $1.5 billion dollars to more than 2.5 million small business owners across 24 countries in the form of microfinance loans in order to empower them to break their own cycle of poverty with the gifts God gave them. Peter shares powerful testimonies of how micro-loans and small savings groups are fostering incredible fruitfulness and transforming communities all around the world in a sustainable process infused with the gospel. He also challenges us to cultivate a heart of generosity by changing the way we see people facing poverty and recognizing that we have nothing that we ourselves haven't been given! Listen now to hear all he had to share. QUOTES TO REMEMBER Just because someone is poor speaks more to the circumstance that they are living in more than their capacity as an individual. The Generosity movement is not a North American movement. It is a global movement for anyone who recognizes how much we've been given. A woman is the heart of the home. Lottery preys on individuals that have no hope and creates a trap that keeps people stuck. Today's guest, former White House photographer Pete Souza, is a bucket-list item for me. I started Behind the Shot because I am a fan of great photography, or more specifically great photographers. Through the over six years I have been doing the show, I have had a range of guests, in a range of genres, from legends, to people I wasn't aware of before asking them to be on the show. While I have discovered many amazing creatives through doing this podcast, when I started there were a few specific people I hoped would someday be on the show. Joe McNally checked off one of those boxes last year when he came on for the show Master of Light, and again when he helped with the show on the Best Photo Advice You've Been Given. Scott Kelby has now been on a few times, with Insights From Scott Kelby and Timeless Photography. Trey Ratcliff stopped by twice, for Raise Your Dynamic Range and Documenting Burning Man, Christie Goodwin did Fireworks, Ed Sheeran: Memories We Made, and also helped with the Best Photo Advice You've Been Given show, and Rick Sammon, David Bergman, and Don Komarechka each have been here too many times to list. Well, today checks off the name I never thought I would get, and excited doesn't begin to cover what I am feeling. Often described as the White House photographer for the eight years of the Obama administration, Mr. Souza's career, and influence on the industry, is so much more than that. Pete Souza is a best-selling author, speaker and freelance photographer. His actual title during the Obama years was Chief Official White House Photographer and the Director of the White House photo office. That job alone would instill fear in most photographers, but Souza has done it more than once! He was also the Official White House Photographer for Ronald Reagan. As an author, Pete has written some of the definitive books related to White House photography. His book, Obama: An Intimate Portrait, was published in 2017, and debuted at #1 on the New York Times bestseller list, and to date it is one of the best-selling photography books of all time. His 2018 book, Shade: A Tale of Two Presidents, also debuted at #1 on the New York Times bestseller list. Shade is a portrait in Presidential contrasts, telling the tale of the Obama and Trump administrations through a series of visual juxtapositions. His most recent book, The West Wing and Beyond: What I Saw Inside the Presidency, was published in September 2022. This book lets us behind the scenes of the West Wing — and into the Oval Office, the Situation Room, aboard Air Force One, and beyond — in intimate detail. Based on his best-selling books, Souza became the subject of a documentary film, The Way I See It, in November 2020.  If you haven't seen it, I can't recommend it enough. It is absolute fantastic. The film takes an unprecedented look behind the scenes of two of the most iconic Presidents in history, Barack Obama and Ronald Reagan, as seen through Souza's eyes and camera. As Official White House Photographer for both these Presidents, Souza was an eyewitness to the unique and tremendous responsibilities of being the most powerful man in the world. The film also reveals how Souza transformed from a respected White House photographer and photojournalist to a searing commentator on the importance of having someone with empathy and dignity in the office of the Presidency. In addition to the national political scene, Souza has covered stories around the world. After 9/11, he was among the first journalists to cover the fall of Kabul, Afghanistan, after crossing the Hindu Kush mountains by horseback in three feet of snow. While at the Chicago Tribune, Souza was also part of the staff awarded the Pulitzer Prize in 2001 for explanatory reporting on the airline industry. As an educator, Pete Souza is Professor Emeritus of Visual Communication at Ohio University, and as a lecturer he is in high demand. He has lectured on his photography at the Smithson...

Justin's most recent book is entitled, "It is What You Make of It: Creating Something Great from What You've Been Given." Justin is also a coach and a speaker. His bio says that he provides on his website says, "I create to provide language for the process of faith and life. For that reason, I really like teaching, storytelling, and songwriting, which I've done for nearly twenty years. I've written books, recorded albums and also curate and host The @Sea Podcast. Whether I'm teaching, sharing songs and stories, leading a workshop on the creative process or inviting folks to engage in the fight against global poverty, I value every opportunity to encourage, challenge and inspire." Christian Thought Leader, Author, and Songwriter Justin McRoberts Inspires Readers to Recreate Within God's Image in New Book – It Is What You Make of It “Adding new energy to old things can turn something good into phenomenal.”– Justin McRoberts “It is what it is”—a common phrase you hear and maybe even say yourself. But the truth is that there is not one square inch in the whole domain of our human existence that simply is what it is. Justin McRoberts invites you to embrace a new mindset: It Is What You Make of It. In his new book, It Is What You Make of It: Creating Something Great from What You've Been Given, McRoberts shares key moments from his twenty-plus years as an artist, church planter, pastor, singer-songwriter, author, neighbor, and father, passing on lessons and practices learned about making something good from what you've been given rather than simply accepting things as they are.  Thought-provoking but actionable, It Is What You Make of It declares that love doesn't just win, mercy doesn't just triumph, and light doesn't just cast out shadow. Rather, such renewal requires the work of human hands and hearts committed to a vision of a world made right (or at least a little better). When we partner with God in these endeavors, we love the world well and honor the Creator in whose image we are made. Complete with stimulating questions and hilariously relatable anecdotes and antics, each chapter will help readers uncover the areas in their lives and communities that are waiting for them to boldly proclaim, “Let's see what we can make of this.” Justin McRoberts lives in the Oakland–San Francisco Bay Area with his wife, Amy, and two children. He is the author of four books, including Prayer: 40 Days of Practice and May It Be So: 40 Days with the Lord's Prayer. Justin's sixteen albums and EPs have gained him a faithful audience among listeners nationwide since 1999. Justin leans on his over twenty years in the arts and ministry to mentor and coach artists and pastors in person as well as over video calls. He is also the host of the podcast @ Sea with Justin McRoberts and co-founding pastor of Shelter-Vineyard Church Community in Concord, CA. Justin regularly travels to speak at churches and colleges, as well as leads retreats for ministry staff, college students, and young adults.   YouTube:       https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCJlBMsfsQ3fBItnQ9eUMfKw (https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCJlBMsfsQ3fBItnQ9eUMfKw)  Facebook:      https://www.facebook.com/JustinRMcRoberts/ (https://www.facebook.com/JustinRMcRoberts/) Twitter:          http://justinmcroberts.com/ (http://justinmcroberts.com/) Instagram:      https://www.instagram.com/justinmcroberts/ (https://www.instagram.com/justinmcroberts/) Website:         http://justinmcroberts.com/ (http://justinmcroberts.com/)

Working with What I Have Been Given Luke 19:11-27 11 And as they heard these things, he added and spake a parable, because he was nigh to Jerusalem, and because they thought that the kingdom of God should immediately appear. 12 He said therefore, A certain nobleman went into a far country to receive for himself a kingdom, and to return. 13 And he called his ten servants, and delivered them ten pounds, and said unto them, Occupy till I come. 14 But his citizens hated him, and sent a message after him, saying, We will not have this man to reign over us. 15 And it came to pass, that when he was returned, having received the kingdom, then he commanded these servants to be called unto him, to whom he had given the money, that he might know how much every man had gained by trading. 16 Then came the first, saying, Lord, thy pound hath gained ten pounds. 17 And he said unto him, Well, thou good servant: because thou hast been faithful in a very little, have thou authority over ten cities. 18 And the second came, saying, Lord, thy pound hath gained five pounds. 19 And he said likewise to him, Be thou also over five cities. 20 And another came, saying, Lord, behold, here is thy pound, which I have kept laid up in a napkin: 21 For I feared thee, because thou art an austere man: thou takest up that thou layedst not down, and reapest that thou didst not sow. 22 And he saith unto him, Out of thine own mouth will I judge thee, thou wicked servant. Thou knewest that I was an austere man, taking up that I laid not down, and reaping that I did not sow: 23 Wherefore then gavest not thou my money into the bank, that at my coming I might have required mine own with usury? 24 And he said unto them that stood by, Take from him the pound, and give it to him that hath ten pounds. 25 (And they said unto him, Lord, he hath ten pounds.) 26 For I say unto you, That unto every one which hath shall be given; and from him that hath not, even that he hath shall be taken away from him. 27 But those mine enemies, which would not that I should reign over them, bring hither, and slay them before me. Jesus tells us a parable about how we should respond to the news of His return. We have a job and responsibility while we await our Lord’s return. The question for us is “what are we to do?” He has called us to watch, wait and work. How will Jesus find us if He returned today, faithful, or unfaithful? I) We Have Been Entrusted with the King’s Goods While He is Away A) What are the Gifts that we have Been Given? 1) Time: 2) Talent: 1 Corinthians 12:7&11 3) Temple: 1Corinthians 6:19-20 4) Testimony: 5) Treasure: We should give God His money. Malachi 3:8-10 B) How do we Use the Gifts that Have Been Given 1) We are to Use the Gifts God has Given us to SERVE One Another. 1 Peter 4:10, 1 Timothy 6:17-19 says, 2) We are to be a CHANNEL of His Blessings, not a Reservoir. 2 Corinthians 9:6-7 3) We are to be CAREFUL that Gifts are our Servant, Not our Master. The warning is this: Matthew 6:24. Jesus also warns us: Luke 16:11 4) We are to Use What We Have to Honor the One Who Gave It to Us. Proverbs 3:9 II) We Will Give an Account to the King When He Returns A) The Giving of Account to the Nobleman. B) The giving of Account to Jesus So, what can we do if we haven’t done well thus far with what God has given us: 1. Acknowledge the areas that we have been bad stewards in. Once I have acknowledged my sins and confessed my sins, then I need to 2. REPENT! This means not only do I recognize I have been going in the wrong direction, but now I change directions and begin walking a new path. 3. DO NOT LIVE IN THE PAST! You can’t change past mistakes and failures. Learn from them, get forgiveness for them and move FORWARD. Remember, God is the God of second chances. Take what God gave you and turn it into something “bigger and better.” That’s a good steward.

Lesson Text 3Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! According to his great mercy, he has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, 4 to an inheritance that is imperishable, undefiled, and unfading, kept in heaven for you, 5 who by God's power are being guarded through faith for a salvation ready to be revealed in the last time. 6 In this you rejoice, though now for a little while, if necessary, you have been grieved by various trials, 7 so that the tested genuineness of your faith—more precious than gold that perishes though it is tested by fire—may be found to result in praise and glory and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ. 8 Though you have not seen him, you love him. Though you do not now see him, you believe in him and rejoice with joy that is inexpressible and filled with glory, 9 obtaining the outcome of your faith, the salvation of your souls. 1 Peter 1:3-9 (ESV) 1 I charge you in the presence of God and of Christ Jesus, who is to judge the living and the dead, and by his appearing and his kingdom: 2 preach the word; be ready in season and out of season; reprove, rebuke, and exhort, with complete patience and teaching. 3 For the time is coming when people will not endure sound[a] teaching, but having itching ears they will accumulate for themselves teachers to suit their own passions, 4 and will turn away from listening to the truth and wander off into myths. 5 As for you, always be sober-minded, endure suffering, do the work of an evangelist, fulfill your ministry. 6 For I am already being poured out as a drink offering, and the time of my departure has come. 7 I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.8 Henceforth there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, will award to me on that day, and not only to me but also to all who have loved his appearing. 2 Timothy 4:1-8 (ESV) Notes: 1: Recognize: the GRACE you have RECEIVED. 2: Realize: the FAITH you have OBTAINED. 3: Take on the TASK you have BEEN GIVEN. 4: Be willing to be POURED OUT. 5: Make HIS NAME the MEANING of your LIFE.

From roles in Cheaper by the Dozen, to the Step Up series, to Camp Rock, The Suite Life of Zach and Cody, and much more. Her career has entailed roles and appearances in over 50 films and shows, alongside a successful dancing and singing career.   Beyond the statistics and accomplishments to her name, Alyson has experienced the weight of social responsibility that comes with notoriety at a young age.   Beginning her career in the entertainment industry at age 6, the life she has lived is rare and complicated. She has been forced to grow up faster than most, and has dealt with many of the ramifications that come from never having experiencing a normal childhood. Through both the opportunities and challenges, she has developed a deep-seeded ambition to pursue excellence in creativity, as well as the desire to understand her self and the workings of her mind, in order to find balance in an increasingly imbalanced world and profession.   In this conversation, Adam, Thane, and Alyson talk through her background, her journey of faith, what it means to live a life of contribution, the importance of community, and much more. Build on the Faith You've Been Given - 8/13/17 - Steve MillerJesus commanded us to go and make disciples of all nations, starting at home. The reason we have Christian Outreach School is because God has called us to help parents disciple our children into the calling that they have from Jesus. He's the One who said, "Follow Me."Eric Johnson: Do we follow Jesus like we follow someone on Twitter or Instagram? To follow Him is to go where He goes and do what He does with Him.Someone gave me a packet of giant pumpkin seeds, but I didn't do anything with them, so I have no giant pumpkins.2 Peter 1:1-2Through the grace and righteousness of Jesus, you have been given a faith of equal standing with that of Peter's and the other apostles! If that's true, then why is the experience of most of us different than that of the apostles?2 Peter 1:3-4If someone gave you a new, high-powered Macbook laptop computer and made sure that your electric bill was all paid up and you had unlimited high-speed internet wi-fi, what would you do with it? That's what God is asking us about this faith He's given us. What are we going to build on it?2 Peter 1:5-7 - 5For this very reason, make every effort to supplement your faith with virtue, and virtue with knowledge, 6and knowledge with self-control, and self-control with steadfastness, and steadfastness with godliness, 7and godliness with brotherly affection, and brotherly affection with love. A look at the meaning of the key Greek words used here, with the help of Helps Word Studies:supplement = epixorēgéō lavishly supply, as it is suitable (apt) to outfit all that is needed to accomplish a grand objective.Make every effort to lavishly supply with these things in order to accomplish God's grand objective for your life.virtue = arétē moral goodness; moral excellence; righteousness. This is the same word as used of God at the end of verse 3.Supplement your faith with virtue. As you are walking with Jesus, you will do the same things He does, not through your strength, but through His. It's the natural fruit of faith.Galatians 5:22-25knowledge = gnṓsis functional ("working") knowledge gleaned from first-hand (personal) experience, connecting theory to application; "application-knowledge," gained in (by) a direct relationship.Supplement virtue with knowledge. This knowledge is knowing how your relationship with Him works out in your daily life and ministry.Acts 4:13self-control = egkráteia (from en, "in the sphere of" and krátos, "dominion, mastery") dominion within – proceeding out from within oneself, but not by oneself. For the believer, self-control can only be accomplished by the power of the Lord. Supplement your knowledge with self-control. Knowledge shows you what to do, but self-control enables you to put it into practice. John 15:5steadfastness = perseverance, patient waiting for hypomonḗ (from hypó, "under" and ménō, "remain, endure") – properly, remaining under, endurance; steadfastness, especially as God enables the believer to "remain (endure) under" the challenges He allots in life. Supplement your self-control with perseverance. What will you do when the going gets tough, or when everything seems to be going great?James 1:12godliness = eusébeia (from eú "well" and sébomai, "venerate, pay homage") – properly, someone's inner response to the things of God which shows itself in godly piety (reverence). eusébeia ("godly heart-response") naturally expresses itself in reverence for God Supplement your steadfastness with godliness. We must learn to take Him seriously and treat Him with the honor and worship He is due.brotherly affection = philadelphía (from phílos, "loving friend" and adelphós, "a brother") – properly, affection for the brethren (fellow-believers). Supplement your godliness with brotherly affection. If we've got the right way to reverence and relate to the Lord our Heavenly Father, then we also need to grow in fellowship with all other believers, our brothers and sisters in God's family. What does our Father God think when we reject our brothers and sisters over disagreements, offenses, or differences?Psalm 133:1-3love = agápē – properly, love which centers in moral preference. So too in secular ancient Greek, (agápē) focuses on preference; likewise the verb form (agapáō) in antiquity meant "to prefer". In the NT, (agápē) typically refers to divine love (= what God prefers) John 15:12-13Finally, supplement your brotherly affection with love. We are to not only fellowship with other believers, but to sacrifice for them. What are the results of all this building or supplementing to the faith, the relationship with Him He's given to us through Jesus Christ?2 Peter 1:8-11What a tragedy and what a waste for us believers to end life being ineffective and unfruitful in our relationship with Jesus! All of us, young and old, need to actively participate in Jesus' personalized discipleship program for us, following Him through life step by step, day by day. He has rich rewards waiting at the end of this path for those of us who walk with Him.2 Peter 1:12-15Have you heard any of these things before? That's okay. We drill God's truths into you so that they will become concrete reality in your life, and that you will pass them on to the next generation.
