hinese Infiltration, Visa-Free Access, and Illegal Activity in the Northern Mariana Islands Cleo Paskal John Batchelor speaks with Cleo Paskal about the highly strategic US territory, the Northern Mariana Islands (CNMI), which are being overrun by Chinese nationals. CNMI is the only part of the US where Chinese can arrive without a visa. This access facilitates illegal activities like money laundering, drug trafficking, and human trafficking, with estimates suggesting thousands of illegal residents. 1959

FIRST HOUR 9-915 HEADLINE: UK Labour Party Faces Crisis as Starmer's Leadership Falters GUEST NAME: Anatol Lieven SUMMARY: Sir Keir Starmer faces "extremely unusual" unpopularity despite Labour's large majority. Potential replacements include Andy Burnham and Lucy Powell. Discontent stems from poor judgment, lack of progressive vision, and resentment over Jeremy Corbyn's removal. She criticizes government intervention, predicting poor outcomes when businesses operate under political pressure. The Trump administration's industrial policy lacks clear philosophy, creating uncertainty that could "kill investments" through unpredictable, reversible decisions. 1115-1130 HEADLINE: King Charles III Hosts Magnificent State Dinner at Windsor Castle GUEST NAME: Conrad Black SUMMARY: King Charles III and Queen Camilla hosted the President and First Lady at Windsor Castle in a "magnificently done" state dinner. The King demonstrated graciousness and dignified conduct. The untimely death of the governor of America's westernmost territory has called attention to inroads being made there by our mortal enemy, the Chinese Communist Party. China's visa-free access to the islands of the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands, its gambling operations there awash with billions of dollars and its nationals' illegal access to nearby Guam are among the reasons the late Gov. Arnold Palacios pleaded for investigations, audits and other help from a largely indifferent Washington, thousands of miles away. Unfortunately, as the Daily Signal recently reported, a man who facilitated such ominous Chinese activities in CNMI is now the top official in DC responsible for the territory and federal funds flowing there. Interior Department Deputy Assistant Secretary Angel Demapan should be under investigation, not in a position to help the CCP further penetrate – and endanger – our Western frontier. This is Frank Gaffney.

The Northern Marianas is part of the United States but exists in a strategic environment unlike anywhere else in America. Sharing a maritime boundary with Japan, the Northern Marianas hosted a strategic air base for America's operations in World War II. Today, as the same base in Tinian is under redevelopment for use by the U.S. Air Force, a Chinese-linked casino recently opened nearby. Unlike anywhere else in America, tourists from China can enter the Northern Mariana Islands through the CNMI-only visa waiver program that has made the U.S. more vulnerable to malicious, CCP-led activities. This is in addition to the large investments that have flowed through the islands' financial system with little national security oversight. The frontline between the People's Republic of China's influence operations and America's strategic positioning are at a significant crossroads. The ongoing bipartisan Congressional failure to approve the renewal of key components of the Compacts of Free Association leaves the future of U.S. defense architecture in the Central Pacific hanging in the balance and risks further isolating the Northern Marianas and neighboring Guam.Join FDD for a conversation with Northern Marianas Governor Arnold Palacios; the Hon. Randall G. Schriver, former Assistant Secretary of Defense for Indo-Pacific Security Affairs and current Chairman of the Board at The Project 2049 Institute; and FDD Senior Fellow Cleo Paskal. The conversation will be moderated by Craig Singleton, FDD China Program Director and Senior Fellow.

This is the last episode of the Rich Salas series. I had such a great interview with Rich Salas. We discuss his role as Director of Coastal Resource Management. How the CNMI residents can support the department's mission. Foreseeable environmental issues in the CNMI. Advice for people wanting to pursue a career in conservation and environmental sustainability. Ghost experiences and superstitions in the CNMI. Thank you so much for tuning in.
In this episode, we discuss Rich Salas's paddling experience and how team chemistry is needed to be successful in the sport. We talk about one of my favorite subjects to cover, fitness, and Rich's mentality toward fitness and his approach to nutrition. In the CNMI, nutrition is so difficult because everything is imported from all over the world. It is really important that we support local farmers that grow crops here in the CNMI. It is a win-win for the farmer and the buyer's health.
In this episode, I had the chance to learn more about Rich Salas on his journey. He answered questions I'm curious about like the expectation vs the reality of becoming a father and the lessons learned through the journey. Finding the right partner, and his college experience out in Boise, Idaho.
Niue reopens its border to tourists; Pacific LGBT peoples say they are charting their own course to emancipation; And PNG tops the 2022 Mini Games medal tally in the CNMI.

The last part (3 out of 3) of my interview with Victoria Deleon Guerrero. We discuss her role models and how they have changed her journey and her perspective on this crazy journey of life. Next, we discuss her ghost experience here in the CNMI. Listening to her story gave me goosebumps and I am sure that other CNMI residents have experienced something similar (hopefully not). Lastly, we have a little fun trivia questionnaire to finish off the interview. Thank you!
I interview Victoria Deleon Guerrero on her journey growing up in the CNMI (Saipan). Her experience attending Seattle University, giving back to the CNMI community, and becoming Director of Institutional Development at Mount Carmel school here in Saipan. We covered entrepreneurship in the CNMI, health and fitness, the Keto diet, and the younger generations in the CNMI. Her paranormal experience here in Saipan and her favorite Chamorro food dishes. This is part one of a three-part series involving Victoria's journey.
Interviewing residents of the Commonwealth of the Northern Marianas Islands (CNMI) on their journey of living on a tropical island thousands of miles away from the mainland. We discuss professional careers, relationships, family, lifestyle, health, fitness, mental health, culture, food, entrepreneurship, society, traditions, life experiences, environmental topics, opportunities, history, crimes, the current state of the CNMI, and the future of the CNMI.
This is the final episode of Season 1, so we decided to make it a bit different than the others by highlighting portions of interviews from past episodes that didn't make the final cut, but that we still want to share with you. Sometimes these clips provide more context or a cool anecdote for a topic we delved into in a prior episode. Or, in other cases, they offer greater insight into the personal development of the interviewee, or their emotional state at the time of the events in question. And sometimes they speak at length about a different historical event or topic altogether than what the interview was officially about, but it still covers something we think our audience – you! — might find interesting. Our anchor for this episode is Tony Azios, the producer / director of Memoirs Pasifika, but you'll still hear questions being asked by several of our previous anchors who conducted most of those interviews. Tony is also a reporter, documentary filmmaker, and instructor at the University of Guam's College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences. Subscribe to the podcast and follow us on social media. In our fourth episode, Congressman LJ Castro of Saipan discusses several key moments and debates from the Northern Mariana Islands' self-determination process of the 1960s and ‘70s, including the Marianas Political Status Commission's negotiations with the United States government to end the NMI's status as a US-administered Trust Territory. Through the so-called “Covenant Agreement,” the Northern Marianas were ultimately able to establish the islands as a commonwealth of the United States with greater rights, autonomy, and citizenship. LJ Castro is a former congressman in the Northern Mariana Islands' House of Representatives, and is currently coordinator for the NMI's Youth Congress. Mr. Castro also serves as creative director of Guma' Simiyan Manaina-ta, a dance troupe showcasing Chamorro culture through the performing arts. In 2017, he was granted the Governor's Humanities Award for Preservation of Traditional Cultural Practices, in recognition of his work in promoting culture through song, chant, and dance.
