Willkommen zurück in Tristram! We're finally back everyone, back to SCHOOL that is! Humans couldn't handle magic without chanting until Monica Everett, the Silent Witch and one of the Seven Sages, made unspoken magecraft possible. Painfully shy, she enjoys seclusion. One day, Louis Miller, the Barrier Mage, delivers the king's order: Go undercover at a prestigious school for nobles to guard the second prince. Get ready for her silent mission to begin! Our next episode will be finishing off Gachiakuta season 1, episodes 13-24. This is what has happened so far: After being falsely convicted of murdering his foster father and cast down from the floating "Sphere" into the trash-filled abyss known as the Pit, Rudo discovers he is a "Giver" with the power to animate objects. Rescued by Enjin, he joins the Cleaners—a group dedicated to fighting trash monsters called Aberrations—and vows revenge on the upper world. As Rudo masters his powers and bonds with teammates like Riyo and Zanka, the group clashes with a violent rival faction known as the Raiders (specifically the Vandals) who also seek to reach the Sphere. Following a brutal battle with the Raider Jabber, the Cleaners travel to the desert "No Man's Land" of Penta to find clues about a way back up. There, they are trapped in a psychological game by the mysterious woman Amo, who manipulates their memories; the conflict culminates in Episode 12 when the team breaks free of her illusions, leading Rudo to snap and brutally beat Amo in a fit of rage, shocking his allies with his darkness.

Following months of swirling rumors, Halo Combat Evolved has its remake. It's called Halo Campaign Evolved and you can play it next year on Xbox, PC, and yes, even PlayStation! It has everything from sprinting to aiming down sights, but more surprising is the new content found within. Cutscenes have been entirely reshot, new prequel missions are being added to the game, new weapons are getting thrown in there, and even the warthog saw an expansion to it. Cog and Gene had the opportunity to go hands-on with a demo of this remake and the takeaways are what you'd expect from a Halo Studios led project. Indeed, it's the familiar cocktail of optimism for what's in front of you and lingering skepticism from the thing you just got. In this episode of The Corner of Story and Game, we sit down with Sagar Beroshi, Principal Narrative Designer at The Chinese Room. Together, we unpack what it really means to write horror when you're working without a blockbuster budget, and why narrative constraints can be an unexpected ally.Sagar shares the realities of writing in a system where your cutscene might get cut, your VO might vanish, and your fallback might be a single line of environmental text. But through all of it, one thing remains: the emotional core of fear and the creativity it takes to build it.From writing on a sliding scale of scope, to finding horror in humanity, to surviving the cascade of shifting narrative tools, this conversation is packed with wisdom for game writers navigating the edge between ambition and reality.Whether you're working on your first indie horror game or juggling narrative priorities in a larger production pipeline, this one's for you.Where to find Sagar:LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/sagarberoshi/The Chinese Room: https://www.thechineseroom.co.uk/Website: https://www.hellosagar.com/The Corner of Story and Game:DiscordFacebookInstagramBlueskyLinkedInEmail: gerald@storyandgame.com#GameWriting #NarrativeDesign #HorrorGames #GameDev #StorytellingInGames #IndieDev #WritingForGames #NarrativeTools #EmotionalStorytelling #GameNarrative #CreativeConstraints #MakingGames #EnvironmentalStorytelling #PlayerExperience #HorrorNarrative #NarrativeCraft #VoiceAndTone #NoCutsceneNoProblem #DesigningFear #GamesThatHaunt

While not strictly a movie based on a video game, this film has a lot of references to video games and to pop culture in general. It's also one of Alex's favourite books, so of course he wanted to cover the movie!
Well, we weren't supposed to catch feels from this anime but here we are. This was a great watch and all three of us HIGHLY recommend it. On the way home from school one day, Konoha Koga rescues Satoko Kusagakure, a ninja who escaped her village. Soon, pursuers from the village show up in search of Satoko only to be deftly dealt with by Konoha. As it turns out, the unassuming high schooler is actually an assassin. Thus, the potentially cutthroat cohabitation of a ninja and an assassin begins! Our next anime is TO BE HERO X: In a world full of brilliant heroes, it's the trust of fans that turns heroes into superheroes. If a hero loses the people's trust, they lose their special abilities. Trust value is collected, quantified, and used to determine a hero's ranking, displayed on their wrist. Every two years, the top heroes go to a tournament to fight, determine new trust values, and earn their rankings.
Hey y'all! We are finally doing it. Our three episode Season 5 hits weekly starting on July 17th. The season will comprise of episodes covering Uncharted, Tomb Raider (2018) and Until Dawn. We are not fully closing the door on the show, but there's a high likelihood that these will likely be the last episodes of Cutscenes. Our lives are all in wholly different places compared to 2021 when we launched the show during the pandemic and between life and other projects, this felt like a good place to (probably) end it. Thanks for coming with us on this last ride. You can follow us on our other show, the Left Behind Game Club is about to hit 200 episodes and on Bluesky.
