Today I am speaking with the vibrant and entrepreneurial Kate Owen. Kate started out painting in the storage acco a few hours a day for about a year to develop a practice. After starting to sell work she created a dedicated purpose built-studio, a sanctuary of peace and positivity in which to create. This allowed her to dedicate more time to her practice.During this time she sold work through Art Lovers Australia, Nutmeg Home in Goondiwindi and a few other retail gift stores and pop up shops. To journal her progress she started her instagram account in late 2017 concentrating on putting her best foot forward on her social accounts. This led to Greenhouse Interiors reaching out in 2019 to invite her to be part of their team of artists which was thrilling and a major advancement for her art career. Kate has been lucky to have the opportunity to exhibit solo a number of times with the support of wonderful agents and many collectors who find joy in her work. In this interview we talk about the mix of fashion, baking and art, Kate's experience with Greenhouse Interiors, collaboration and licensing. We mentioned a few projects:The mural we collaborated on in Goondiwindi: https://www.sculleydesign.com/murals?lightbox=dataItem-l7ea1j9o9 If you'd like to check out Kate's work, or get in touch with her you can find her on: Website // https://www.kateowenartwork.com.au Instagram // https://www.instagram.com/kowenart/ Facebook // https://www.facebook.com/kateowenartwork/ Greenhouse Interiors // https://greenhouseinteriors.com.au ——— Thank you so much for tuning into the Art + Business + Murals PodcastIf you'd like to say ‘hi' to me, or if you have any podcast topic ideas or artists you'd like me to interview, please email: podcast@sarahsculley.com Please follow along: Instagram // https://www.instagram.com/sculleydesign/ Facebook // https://www.facebook.com/sculleydesign You Tube // https://www.youtube.com/@SarahSculley/videos Website // https://www.sculleydesign.com Feel free to give this podcast a star rating and ‘follow' so you are notified when new episodes come out each Monday.
I know what you are thinking: what kind of a question is that? Especially after 30 podcast episodes under that title! You are right. Developer marketing does exist and is in fact the great challenge and mystery we are trying to explore in this podcast series. The question is inspired by today's guest Adam Duvander., who makes a valid argument: What we do, in our effort to empower and help developers move forward is not really "marketing". And that's a valid point. Adam Duvander joined us and we discussed: Developer marketing Why developer marketing is not marketing and what he loves most about it His biggest challenge Designing a developer marketing strategy Content Community Events And more! https://www.devrelx.com/podcast?utm_source=UnderTheHoodofDeveloperMarketing&utm_medium=S03E09&utm_campaign=FDS21_Panel (Listen to this episode) to better understand developer marketing. Adam Duvander helps developers be productive and creative. Call it "developer marketing" if you must, he works with the best developer-focused companies through his consulting practice. He has held full-time roles at API juggernauts Zapier, SendGrid, and ProgrammableWeb (where he served as the first editor). Before that, he wrote the book on map scripting and covered developer topics for Wired.

Trick question of the week: Why does Developer Relations need cheerleaders? It’s been a long time since the trick question was really impossible to answer. Or not at all impossible if you listen to the latest episode. One of the biggest challenges in Developer Relations is actually defining it in a way that helps people better understand it. “People” includes upper management, which has been the real challenge for most of our past guests: showing the value of developer relations and the benefit to the company to the executive level. This is where you want someone to “cheerlead” for you. Yet. This is not enough to stop you from helping developers reach their “Aha!” moment, which is Jessica West’s favourite thing when it comes to developer relations. This episode touches a lot of key developer relations topics, including: Skills to have How developer relations is affected by the pandemic What the future of developer relations holds and More importantly, how to reach developers when you can’t meet them at events. Also, at a time when events are turning virtual, we discuss whether virtual events are cutting it. The graphs Jessica picked for this week’s “Let’s talk Data” section: 29% of developers contribute to Open Source software to improve coding skills (https://www.devrelx.com/trends?lightbox=dataItem-k9mq59gq?utm_source=PodcastDescription&utm_medium=JessWest&utm_campaign=Desctiption) . Jessica West is the Head of Developer Relations at LaunchDarkly. With over 12 years of software engineering experience, she works to empower development teams through code, content, and collaboration. She is an influential speaker, storyteller, and marketer able to share technical concepts meaningfully and memorably.
Trick question of the week: Why is Developer Experience so important? For starters, let’s look to the old saying that “first impressions matter”. Anyone that spends too much time trying to figure out how things work is more likely to quit trying at some point. This remains true to developers too. Today’s guest, Ian Jennings, is the man behind Haxor Developer Experience. According to Haxor, most vendors expect developers to reach their first “Hello, world!” within 15 minutes. The truth? Half of the developers don’t even reach that point, and the rest who do, will end up needing more than 1 hour. How can you offer a better experience to developers? Ian has 5 tips that will help make everything better. Listen to the episode and find out. In this episode, Ian discusses 2 graphs that stand out to him for the “Let’s talk Data” section. Ian's picks for this week: how developer and marketing experts segment their audience (https://www.devrelx.com/trends?lightbox=dataItem-k9mqu4kj1?utm_source=PodcastDescription&utm_medium=Ian Jennings&utm_campaign=Segmentation) . Ian Jennings is the founder of Haxor, a developer experience testing platform. Haxor tests and measures APIs, SDKs, and developer products with on-demand feedback from real developers. Previously, Ian co-founded developer meetup platform Hacker League, before spending 6 years at PubNub establishing their developer experience strategy. He also operates DevPort, a developer portfolio site populated by thousands of developers.
What should leaders be doing NOW to ensure the future of aviation? Competing or Cooperating? On this episode, transformational CEO Hooman Yazhari shares how leaders should respond to the looming economic crisis. Like it or not, people are scared of getting into aircrafts at the moment. We have to work together as an industry to think of how to make them feel reassured. -Hooman Yazhari Takeaways + Tactics To protect the future, we have to protect the now. Liquidity is the key to everything, so go source as many sources of capital as possible. Use the current crisis to shape the future. Use the void in certainty as an opportunity to shape destiny. Now is the time to collaborate with our competitors to find a way forward and ensure passengers will feel safe on airplanes. Guest Bio Hooman Yazhari is a transformational CEO with a vast track record in assisting distressed companies through major transformations. Hooman is a key leader in extensive chain management. He is currently serving as Vice Chairman of the Board at Bristow Group, and has just joined the Board at Speedcast. Hooman is also the Non-Executive Director at Voyager Aviation. This allows him to use a detailed, disciplined process that does more than pair the ideal candidate with the perfect opportunity, and hit the business goals of the companies he serves.
Trick question of the week: What’s in the future of developer relations, especially after covid-19? The pandemic forced all companies to shift strategies mid-Q1. But how does this affect developer relations? Events, the cause burnouts for many developer marketing, relations, advocates and evangelists are currently out of the mix. So is the opportunity for reaching developers, 1-on-1, face-to-face. Software has come to cover this hole by many applications. What does the future hold and how can we connect to developers when we can’t reach them in person? Patrick McFadin, VP of DataStax joins us in this episode to discuss connecting with developers in the COVID-era and post-COVID-era, open source and the challenges developer relations professionals face. In this episode, we introduce the “Let’s talk Data” section where we pick one graph from the DevRelx Trends page and analyze the results. Patrick's pick for this week: programming language communities and growth (https://www.devrelx.com/trends?lightbox=dataItem-k9mq59cz1?utm_source=PodcastDescription&utm_medium=PatrickMcFadin&utm_campaign=Desctiption) . Patrick McFadin is the Vice President of Developer Relations at DataStax. He is one of the leading experts of Apache Cassandra and data modeling techniques and has helped build some of the largest and exciting deployments in production. Previous to DataStax, he was Chief Architect at Hobsons and an Oracle DBA/Developer for over 15 years.
Hooman Yazhari is Vice Chairman at Bristow Group and a BOD member with Voyager Aviation as well. During his relatively short career, he has led four companies through very challenging times, including two complete restructurings. His experience and compassion create a great playbook for current and future business leaders. In this episode, we discuss the short and medium-term challenges the aviation/aerospace and airline industry will experience, and how we'll move beyond the chaos if COVID-19. To come out of the COVID-19 crisis as seamlessly as possible, the industry will have to think holistically about solutions. -Hooman Yazhari Takeaways + Tactics Airline liquidity will be crucial. Cash is king, and in a situation as unprecedented as our current reality, that's more true than ever. Governments will need to help the aviation industry. They will be more likely to assist bigger airline companies and flag carriers. Smaller and secondary airlines will be forced to evaluate other options. Less pressing issues, such as carbon footprints will take a back seat to the COVID-19 crisis, but will re-emerge as important topics. Guest Bio Hooman Yazhari is a transformational CEO. He is the Vice Chairman of the Board at Bristow Group, as well as the Non-Executive Director at Voyager Aviation. Hooman has a tremendous track record of assisting distressed companies through major transformations, and is a key leader in extensive change management. http://annettbone.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/01/Artist-1.png () Session Summary: 28 EXPLOSIVE DANCE FILMS, THEATER & ROOFTOP SCREENINGS, Q&A, HOLLYWOOD, GLOBAL BEATS by GINGEE, COCKTAILS, UMAMI BURGER, AWARDS, MIXER--If you saw this description for an event, you'd want to attend, right? I enjoyed my time at The Divulge Dancers Film Festival in November 2018 which inspired 5 essential elements to empower as an artist. http://annettbone.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/01/Divulge-2-11.17.2018-2.jpg () Empower the element of your communication skills. One thing is to work on is enunciation. I had a hard time understanding one of the dancers on Get Lite. Empower the element of possibility thinking. Put the law of attraction into play. One of the dancers did this in Get Lite because he said he was going to Paris and London to teach and it happened. Get the creativity going toward the results you want and not what you don't want. Empower adversity into an advantage. Mother's Balls featured Amber's adversity of a strict background which forced her to be creative. Empower inclusivity in dance and other art forms. Making Waves with the Down's Syndrome dancers was very heartwarming. I am also reminded of other companies that are inclusive such as Axis, Heidi Latsky, Infinite Flow and Leigh Purtill Ballet Company. Empower Other's Skill Set. I love getting around other people that are more advanced in their skill sets than I am. A great example of someone who always empowered others to be better was Gene Kelly. http://annettbone.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/02/Divulge-2-11.17.2018-145.jpg () Links/Info from this session:http://annettbone.com (Get my FREE Audio Resource) https://www.divulgedancersfilmfestival.com/?lightbox=dataItem-jm5ogz3w (Divulge Dancers Film Festival ) http://www.axisdance.org (Axis Dance Company) http://www.heidilatskydance.org (Heidi Latsky ) http://infiniteflowdance.org (Infinite Flow Dance) http://www.leighpurtillballet.com (Leigh Purtill Ballet Company) http://annettbone.com/067 (Interview with Marisa Hamamoto) http://annettbone.com/110 (Interview with Ally Vega) http://annettbone.com/185/ (Interview with Patricia Ward Kelly) http://heididuckler.org (Heidi Duckler) Would you review The DancePreneuring Studio?I would be extremely appreciative if you would subscribe and leave your feedback on Apple Podcasts or Stitcher Radio.
