The complexities of EV battery technology are getting more and more... well... complex. But, while attributes like range, longevity, durability and chemistry tend to get much of the limelight, there's one aspect of EV battery R&D that sits in the background without getting the fanfare it rightly deserves: Testing."As the battery is becoming more and more important as the propulsion energy storage system, there's a lot of testing and a lot of validation that needs to be done," says Don Wright, Unico vice president of engineering. "Those tests are very demanding, and as the battery packs start to change and we're getting into higher voltages and higher powers, the test equipment that goes along with it needs to change as well. This is where we're starting to see the transition to much higher power systems and higher voltages for our test equipment; we even have battery pack test systems that go up to 2,000-3,000 volts for very large applications."On this episode of The Amped EV Podcast, Wright highlights the importance of adapting test equipment to accommodate emerging trends, expectations and new business possibilities regarding the future of battery-swapping technology, and what we know about the integration of solid-state batteries in EVs. The Buzz: www.thebuzzevnews.com

Don Wright joins us this week to talk about Clarigent, and their new product, Clarity. Clarity gives clinicians an important new tool, based on AI technology, to track suicide risk and mental health outcomes. Don has spent over 30 years in the healthcare and informatics space. Prior to Clarigent Health, he led Assurex Health, which grew to over 500 employees and was acquired in 2016 by Myriad Genetics for $225 million. When Don left Assurex after the transition period, he wanted to continue working in the mental health field, and to build another company that helped people. Lack of funding and other factors including stigma have caused mental health to lag behind other areas of medical practice when it comes to integrating technology and science. In 2018, he established Clarigent Health with the goal of bringing science to mental health. The core technology builds on foundational research conducted at Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center led by Dr. John Pestian and Dr. Tracy Glauser. Don's co-founder, Bill Haynes had previously worked with Don, John and Tracy during the Assurex days, including Assurex sponsoring some of the research that now constitutes the core technology at Clarigent. Although Don has worked in and advocated for mental healthcare for a long time, three years ago this purpose became more deeply personal. His son Justin died by suicide just as Clarigent was developing the commercial version of the suicide prevention technology. The memory of Justin's life has made this suicide prevention work a more personal mission for Don and the entire team. Darin and Jeff are honored to have Don on The Voice Box, and Cobalt Speech is happy to support Clarigent with speech technology.

First off, condolences to the friends and family of Scott Bowden, who died earlier this week. We had been talking to Scott the last couple weeks about returning to the podcast to talk Memphis wrestling and even were Tweeting with him a few days ago. On the show we are finally to nabbed The King of Kingsport Beau James (@kingofkingsport) to be on the show. We start by remembering Scott, as Beau had just done his Kentucky Fried Rasslin' podcast not that long ago. As one of the foremost experts on East Tennessee wrestling, we pick Beau's brain on all things about the Knoxville/Southeastern/Continental/USA territory, so plenty of stories about Ron and Don Wright, Whitey Caldwell, Les Thatcher, Ron and Robert Fuller,, Jimmy Golden, Ron Garvin and many more folks. We also talk about Memphis, including the angle (see below) when Robert Fuller brought back Nick Gulas to do an angle about the control of the promotion. There's way too many stories to listen here, including Beau's long friendships with Buddy Landell and Jimmy Valiant, starting in the business at 16 years old, indy wrestling horror stories and so much more. Easily one of my favorites podcasts, as Beau is a master storyteller. If you want more, be sure to check out his new Patreon and his King of Kingsport website.

For episode four of Gadfly we go as far north as the boundaries of America will take us and look at the beginnings of the Alaskan Independence Party and, its founder, a cranky old prospector-lawyer named Joe Vogler. As party founder he fought for Alaska to leave the United States and form its own sort of Libertarian utopia. In his personal life, he fought buses, trees, and the National Park Service. How far can one perpetually ornery old man possibly go? Find out at least half of that answer here in part one of two.

Today's episode is a short segment from EP106: Male Survivors of Sexual Assault with Don Wright. Don is a pioneer in the men's help realm. He introduced the first business solely focussed on helping men heal from sexual assault. It turns out that nearly 50% of youth victims of sexual assault/abuse are boys, yet there are only 4 small business that's provide help to men specifically across Canada. Coming from a light-hearted episode with Rianna James, we will be shifting gears this week and discuss something more serious. A little somber for the holidays, but definitely worthwhile to listen to raise awareness on a subject not usually talked about but is relevant and must not be left on the sidelines. To give you a background, our guest is Don Wright, the founder and Executive Director of the British Columbia Society for Male Survivors of Sexual Abuse (BCSMSSA). He pioneered professionals to provide therapy and treatment in the sexual abuse field. He was awarded by the B.C. Human Right Coalition with a human rights medal of honor for his work in this field. Our insightful and relevant discussion today will leave you with some key takeaways and new learnings, including: The four facilities focusing on male sexual abuse in Canada; One in BC under Don Wright; the Men's Project in Ottawa which lost funding but was continued under private practice as Men's Healing; one in Winnipeg; and another in Calgary (4:37). How BCSMSSA has been sourcing its funds with the help of the BC government (6:05). What was the reason Don started this movement, what set of events led to him forming it, and how he operated it from then to what it is now (7:26)? Do men get sexually abused and how prevalent is it (10:07)? The broader concept of sexuality abuse, which encompasses all experiences associated with sexual abuse plus covert experiences including indirect but intrusive contact, and discrimination based on sexual orientation (12:17). The percentage split of boys and girls prior age 13 that have experienced some form of sexual abuse, and how numbers or percentage by gender should never be the qualifier or grounds whether therapy is available, or to validate the need for it (14:15). The percentage of women perpetrators in male sexuality abuse, the instances of young boys having sexual relations with older women, and the double standards that come into play with how people view sexual abuse (16:26). The shame, confusion, other emotions, and dissociation that are results of manipulation and being sexuality abused (19:57). An even more complex effect of abuse that manifested in one of his therapies where the victim had disassociative identity disorder (21:01). Who are the most common perpetrators of sexual abuse (24:00). Factors preventing men from asking for help (25:33) like Homophobia (26:14), lack of services (26:14), and fear of emasculation where men do not want to admit they were hurt (29:13). The need for a program to provide facilities, which is currently non-existent, to house male domestic violence victims (30:48). The adverse effects of having boys and men abused who were unable to vent out (35:22). How facing the pain, getting help and acknowledging you're a victim takes courage (39:55) Certain traumatic experiences and memories that manifest throughout a person's life with a specific case illustrating such which negatively affected their sexuality and lives in general during adulthood (42:00).   If you want to connect with Don, or want to learn more about BC Male Survivors and their causes, you may check their website at http://bc-malesurvivors.com/, or email Don at director@bc-malesurvivors.com.

Музыканты участвующие в альбоме : - Luca Zabbini / keyboards, bass, backing vocals - Luca Pancaldi / lead vocals - Eric Ombelli / drums - Marco Mazzuoccolo / guitars Приглашённый музыкант - Vittorio De Scalzi / vocals, flute on (3) 04.06.15 известен своим участием в легендарной итальянской группе New Trolls.

Ever since the hapless Polish immigrant, Robert Dziekanski, died at Vancouver International Airport last year after being zapped with Tasers by RCMP officers, a flood of outrage has swept across the country and around the world. Serious questions are now being asked about the use of this controversial weapon by those paid to keep us safe on our streets. Our newspapers are full of reports about the use of Tasers in what would appear to be inappropriate circumstances: by transit cops in BC against passengers suspected of skipping their fare; by Toronto city police who zapped a suspected drug peddler after he had already been handcuffed and was lying face down on the floor. Alarmingly, the use of Tasers has been growing dramatically, according to a recent Canadian Press/CBC investigation. Who says Tasers are safe? Most of the research has been funded by the manufacturer, Taser International, themselves. The RCMP claim Tasers save lives, however to date, at least 22 people in Canada and over 270 in the United States are believed to have died after being zapped with Tasers. Should the use of Tasers and other similar electroshock devices be suspended, pending a rigorous, independent and impartial study into their effects?
