This week the gang get together to talk about our favorite (and least favorite) anime protagonists. What makes a compelling one and what makes a poor one. Sam goes through shonen protagonists and analyses their tropes and similarities, Charlie explains what makes shojo protagonists so interesting and Graeme loves Kagayama from Mob Psycho. Wooo! This episode is a funny one (especially after that semi bummer of a last one) we talk about a LOT of stuff in this one. Including but not limited to that new AI horror movie that's really just Smart house, a quick Woggle update, and another round of the everything draft with an anime twist! Cuddle up with your Edward Elric or Satoru Gojo Dakimaura and enjoy another banger episode!

No-Read November is back, bringing with it returning horrors! This month we're taking a break from reading manga, to watch some... live-action anime movies. Edward Elric is still using unnecessary cgi to fight monsters, but it looks like the film makers realized they had several movies' worth of plot, but only one movie's budget. This week, Matt, Sam, Jae, and Jacob watch and discuss... the FINAL live-action Fullmetal Alchemist movie... IT'S FINALLY OVER! THANK GOD!Read along, meme along, or just yell at our bad opinions by following @OverMangaCast on Twitter.YouTube / Instagram / FacebookLeave a review: Podchaser

Meanwhile, Al is in Leore, reuniting with his father and learning the secrets of the homonculi that may be the key to defeating them.
We discuss why Emily needs help talking to shy people, how Nick may have gotten ripped off trying to troll anime fans, and Emily's spoiler-free review of Oppenheimer.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
"This is my body, which is broken for you." What is the Law of Equivalent Exchange? Can you really buy redemption with suffering? What is the price of a human soul...and why is it Edward Elric's right arm? All this and more on our SEASON FINALE. In our next episode, we'll be discussing the 2018 Pixar animated short Bao. Today on CultureScape, I have a fascinating guest, if not a little controversial. Vic Mignogna is a prolific voice actor, doing voice work in films, games, television, and seemingly every major anime production in the last 20 years, including his groundbreaking role as Edward Elric in Full Metal Alchemist. Brolly In Dragon Ball Z & Super, plus loads of other top-rate shows like Naruto, Bleach, Ouran High School Host Club, Digimon, Pokémon, Jo Jo's Bizarre Adventure, RWBY, and much more. If you aren't familiar with his voice work, you likely are familiar with his incredible Star Trek YouTube show, Star Trek Continues, which has millions of views per episode on YouTube; in which he stars as Captain James T. Kirk and directs the production. Mignogna is an actor who has always been good to his fans. He's a popular guy, of course, but he's also a devout Christian and someone that's always tried to make Christ the centerpiece of his life. It's why there are many videos online of Vic wishing people well. Like telling one fan happy birthday or encouraging another going through bereavement to hold in there. This is why in 2018, at the cusp of a huge box office success, in what would become known as one of the worst cancellation events of the last decade, in Kick Vic, certain elements of the anime community started pushing a witch hunt to end Vic's career, largely based on anonymous accounts from fans. For this, Vic almost had his life ruined, his voice acting career cut short, his convention spots depleted, and he became a general pariah. However, Vic, too, held in there, and I'm glad to say things are looking up. So, in this episode, we will talk with Vic about his career, his relationship with Christ, his love of anime and culture, what went on back in 2018, and what he's learned and gained from this hard experience. No-Read November begins in full force! This month we're taking a break from reading manga, to watch some movies. Edward Elric accidently traded his brother's body and an arm and a leg to get a flesh blog vaguely shaped like his mother. Now he's on a quest to catch the serial killer / genocide revenger Scar. It then kind of devolves into a weird collection of scenes from the anime loosely connected with unnecessary cgi. What a DOOZY of an episode! This week we had the pleasure to host our 2nd guest and 1st athlete to the show. The hard hitting, fumble causing, super talented line backer for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the wholesomest family man on the planet, Joe Jones, helps us break down Part 1 of his favorite anime series!"We had such a freaking blast on this episode!" Is what we'd like to say...but that would be the understatement of the year!! Seriously, shout out to Preston Hargrove for getting all of us acquainted we cannot thank you enough. Like Preston, Joe is a humble, down to mars human who is incredibly easy to talk to. And, although we did our best to stay on track, we inevitably let the conversations veer off into realms outside of anime. We talked about everything from Joe's pie/sweets cravings, the size of Tom Brady's animal sacrifices, sports injuries, the dark easter eggs in kids' movies, and even Joe's love/hate relationship with timpani. Garrett even got double points for his analysis of the OPs and EDs.Talking with Joe about music and anime truly solidified the idea that music is the only human language that transcends race, creed, religion and culture. Thank you so much for joining us, Joe. A multi-fandom podcast for the shipper in you. In many places, restrictions are being lifted, but we're all still a long way from normal. So maybe you won't mind that this week's episode turned out a bit longer and ramblier than normal, because as it turns out, Derek pretty much discovered fandom while preparing to talk about the canon ship of Edward Elric and Winry Rockbell from Full Metal Alchemist. We had a blast chatting not just about EdWin but also many other shiny things. :) Show notes on shippingcast.fandomish.net

Vic Mignogna’s name might not ring a bell for most, but within the anime community, he’s a household name. He’s appeared in hundreds of anime shows, films, and video games since 1999, including playing the lead of Edward Elric in Fullmetal Alchemist. Vic Mignogna, known as the voice of Edward Elric and many other characters, has recently been accused of everything from being a primadonna, a jerk, a creep and even a rapist. The boys from The Other Side go over the accusations, who is making them and why they are suddenly springing up like weeds. Thrill as you experience the insane levels of pettiness supposedly grown adults in the industry have! Marvel at the incredible levels of deflection from people who tolerated actual proven rapists! This is an episode you won't want to miss!ADDENDUM:This podcast was recorded before more revelations came to light, which we would like to address briefly here. First, now that her story has been proven false, we feel confident in naming Jessie Pridemore as the accuser mentioned in the podcast. Voice Actor Todd Haberkorn came forward as the one she implied had raped her, and provided evidence showing the sexual encounter was consensual, and that Pridemore has held a bizarre fixation on Vic Mignogna, gleefully admitting to harassing him and his girlfriend at the time. Our initial guess as to who it might have been was incorrect, primarily because of Pridemore's insinuation that this person held too much power and influence, and outing him might cost her her career. I believe we can safely say Haberkorn does not fit this description, but we were unaware of just how much Pridemore was lying at the time of recording. Also since this episode was recorded, the websites Anime News Network and Dao of Dragonball produced hitpieces on Vic Mignogna citing the discredited facebook post from Pridemore as a source, with ANN's article using photos of Vic's fans without their consent to misrepresent the context of the photos to further their narrative, as well as adding bizarre claims such as Vic flirting with cross-dressing men. The Dao of Dragonball article also cited MarzGurl's tweets as evidence without doing any research into her claims, who she was, or the actions she was taking against Vic's fans (and mother). Had we recorded after these articles been posted, let it be known we would have had a field day with them.
