This month we've gone back further than ever before to 1967 a time when none of us existed yet and everything was psychedelic and groovy. There's proto prog, primeval punk, pop masterpieces, and whatever you'd categorise Zabadak as...We've each chosen our 10 favourite songs of the year and sent them over to Colin's wife Helen, who put the playlists together and distributed them so we were each given a playlist of the 20 songs from the other two hosts, along with our own 10. We then ranked the playlists in order of preference and sent them back to Helen, who totalled up the points and worked out the order. She also joined us on the episode to read out the countdown, which we found out as we recorded so all reactions are genuine. Now, admittedly, in parts we're a little bit brutal to some of the songs in the list as we're three separate people with differing music tastes, but please remember that to be in this episode at all the songs have to have been in one of our top 10's of that year.Bands featured in this episode include (In alphabetical order, no spoilers here!) - The Beach Boys, The Beatles, Tim Buckley, Calico Wall, Captain Beefheart & His Magic Band, Country Joe & The Fish, Dave Dee, Dozy, Beaky, Mick & Tich, The Electric Prunes, Aretha Franklin, Jimi Hendrix, The Hollies, Jefferson Airplane, The LEft Banke, Love, The Lovin' Spoonful, Pink Floyd, Louis Prima & Phil Harris, Otis Redding & Carla Thomas, Kenny Rogers & The First Edition, Sam & Dave, The Seeds, Nina Simone, Stone Poneys, The Third Bardo, Vanilla Fudge, The Velvet Underground, Scott Walker, The Who, The West Coast Pop Art Experimental BandFind all songs in alphabetical order here - https://open.spotify.com/playlist/5AZHbpp2zaOQoCQwI2QjDN?si=9838e165b6d94229Find our We Dig Music Pollwinners Party playlist (featuring all of the winning songs up until now) here - https://open.spotify.com/playlist/45zfDHo8zm6VqrvoEQSt3z?si=Ivt0oMj6SmitimvumYfFrQIf you want to listen to megalength playlists of all the songs we've individually picked since we started doing best of the year episodes (which need updating but I plan on doing them over the next few months or so), you can listen to Colin's here – https://open.spotify.com/playlist/5x3Vy5Jry2IxG9JNOtabRT?si=HhcVKRCtRhWCK1KucyrDdgIan's here - https://open.spotify.com/playlist/2H0hnxe6WX50QNQdlfRH5T?si=XmEjnRqISNqDwi30p1uLqAand Tracey's here - https://open.spotify.com/playlist/2p3K0n8dKhjHb2nKBSYnKi?si=7a-cyDvSSuugdV1m5md9NwThe playlist of 20 songs from the other two hosts was scored as usual, our favourite song got 20 points, counting down incrementally to our least favourite which got 1 point. 2024 is in it's final days and as is traditional it's time for us to talk aout all of the fantastic music released this year. This year Tracey & Colin have been on board with Charli XCX's Brat summer, while Ian has pretty much avoided it entirely while he's been rocking out to masked Hardcore bands with salsa rhythms. It's been another absolutely amazing year for music and it's been really difficult narrowing it down to 10 songs each. We've each chosen our 10 favourite songs of the year and sent them over to Colin's wife Helen, who put the playlists together and distributed them so we were each given a playlist of the 20 songs from the other two hosts, along with our own 10. We then ranked the playlists in order of preference and sent them back to Helen, who totalled up the points and worked out the order. She also joined us on the episode to read out the countdown, which we found out as we recorded so all reactions are genuine. Now, admittedly, in parts we're a little bit brutal to some of the songs in the list as we're three separate people with differing music tastes, but please remember that to be in this episode at all the songs have to have been in one of our top 10's of that year.Bands featured in this episode include (In alphabetical order, no spoilers here!) - Alkaline Trio, Ambiviolence, Arab Strap, Astrel K, Audiobaton, The Body & Dis Fig, The Bullfight & Henry Rollins, Sabrina Carpenter, Charli XCX, Julie Christmas & Johannes Persson, Crippled Black Phoenix, The Cure, Exploring Birdsong, Bill Fisher, The Hanging Stars, The Hell, Hope Of The States, Horse Jumper Of Love, MJ Lenderman, LLNN, Magdalena Bay, Midwife, Mt. "People once believed that when someone dies, a crow carries their soul to the land of the dead. But sometimes, something so bad happens that a terrible sadness is carried with it and the soul can't rest." The Crow is now three decades old, a production more of legend than fact, known for the tragic death of star Brandon Lee while making the film. It has become a mythologised picture, but what are the facts behind the fiction? Was it really a cursed movie? In this episode of AT THE MOVIES IN THE 90s, a podcast about the cinema of the 90s, your host A. J. Black is joined by brand new guest, podcaster and music obsessive Colin Jackson-Brown, to delve into Alex Proyas' dark comic-book horror picture, discuss the fascinating backstory, dig deep into the iconic soundtrack, and consider the sequels and imminent remake. Plus, Colin discusses his favourite movies of the 1990s, and oh my god, one in particular you will never see coming... Host / Editor A. J. Black Guest Colin Jackson-Brown Find A. This month we're back to the BC era (Before Colin), where we'll be discussing our favourite songs of 1980, inlcuding lashings of nuclear paranoia, a brace of classic metal, and a nice healthy dollop of goth. Now, admittedly, in parts we're a little bit brutal to some of the songs in the list as we're three separate people with differing music tastes, but please remember that to be in this episode at all the songs have to have been in one of our top 10's of that year. Bands featured in this episode include (In alphabetical order, no spoilers here!) - AC/DC, Bauhaus, The Beat, David Bowie, Kate Bush, Cabaret Voltaire, Comsat Angels, The Clash, The Cramps, The Cure, Dead Kennedys, Devo, Dexys Midnight Runners, Diamond Head, Iron Maiden, Japan, Nic Jones, Journey, Joy Division, Judas Priest, Killing Joke, Motorhead, The Only Ones, Orchestral Manouvres In The Dark, Ozzy Osbourne, Siouxsie & The Banshees, The Specials, Stiff Little Fingers, Talking Heads, & Visage.Find all songs in alphabetical order here - https://open.spotify.com/playlist/1kij98NJCpKCK24D6GsvRG?si=cf71849309184fa9Find our We Dig Music Pollwinners Party playlist (featuring all of the winning songs up until now) here - https://open.spotify.com/playlist/45zfDHo8zm6VqrvoEQSt3z?si=Ivt0oMj6SmitimvumYfFrQIf you want to listen to megalength playlists of all the songs we've individually picked since we started doing best of the year episodes, you can listen to Colin's here – https://open.spotify.com/playlist/5x3Vy5Jry2IxG9JNOtabRT?si=HhcVKRCtRhWCK1KucyrDdg Ian's here - https://open.spotify.com/playlist/2H0hnxe6WX50QNQdlfRH5T?si=XmEjnRqISNqDwi30p1uLqA and Tracey's here - https://open.spotify.com/playlist/2p3K0n8dKhjHb2nKBSYnKi?si=7a-cyDvSSuugdV1m5md9Nw The playlist of 20 songs from the other two hosts was scored as usual, our favourite song got 20 points, counting down incrementally to our least favourite which got 1 point. You may know Neil from the Chart Music Podcast, from his writing for Melody Maker, Kerrang, Vox, The Quietus, Plan B, Metal Hammer, DJ Mag & more, or you may have heard him when he guested on Colin & Ian's other podcast Free With This Months Issue in August last year. Welcome to SHIPWRECKED & COMATOSE, an in-depth podcast dedicated to the classic BBC science-fiction sitcom, Red Dwarf. In this episode, Kurt North and Mark Adams welcome all three of their regular co-hosts of S&C, Carl Bryan; Matt Latham and Colin Jackson-Brown, to the podcast for the third of a three part discussion on the Back to Earth mini-series comissioned by the British TV Channel Dave after the 8 series run on the BBC. Widely considered to be a bit crap by fans who are still grateful that it happened because it spawned three more series on Dave, the whole team consider whether it's rep is actually undeserved.
