Chapter 1 What's Wheel Of The Year by Pauline Campanelli"Wheel of the Year" by Pauline Campanelli is a comprehensive guide that explores the cycle of seasonal festivals celebrated within the pagan calendar. Campanelli delves into the eight major Sabbats—Imbolc, Ostara, Beltane, Litha, Lammas, Mabon, Samhain, and Yule—offering insights into their historical origins, significance, and modern-day celebrations. The book is not just a mere calendar; it weaves together folklore, traditions, rituals, and seasonal practices, providing readers with practical guidance on how to honor each Sabbat in their own lives. Campanelli emphasizes the importance of connecting with nature, observing seasonal changes, and celebrating the rhythms of the earth. Through step-by-step rituals, recipes, and meditations, readers learn how to merge ancient wisdom with contemporary practices to create a meaningful spiritual experience throughout the year. This work serves as both an educational resource and an inspirational guide for those wishing to deepen their relationship with the natural world and the cycle of life.Chapter 2 Wheel Of The Year by Pauline Campanelli Summary"Wheel of the Year" by Pauline Campanelli is a comprehensive guide that explores the pagan seasonal festivals and their significance within the neo-pagan traditions, particularly Wicca. The book outlines the eight major festivals that make up the Wheel of the Year, which are:Samhain (October 31 November 1) A festival marking the end of the harvest season and the beginning of winter, believed to be a time when the veil between the living and the dead is thinnest.Yule (Winter Solstice) Celebrating the rebirth of the sun, this festival honors the return of longer days and the fertility of the earth.Imbolc (February 1-2) A festival dedicated to the goddess Brigid, signifying the first signs of spring and the promise of renewed life and growth.Ostara (Spring Equinox) Marking the balance of day and night, Ostara celebrates fertility and rebirth, aligning with themes of renewal in nature.Beltane (May 1) A fire festival that celebrates fertility, the union of the God and Goddess, and the abundance of life in spring.Litha (Summer Solstice) A celebration of the longest day of the year, focusing on the sun's power and the peak of growth before the decline of summer.Lammas (August 1) A harvest festival that offers gratitude for the earth's bounty, marking the time of ripening grain and fruit.Mabon (Autumn Equinox) A time of thanksgiving for the harvest, recognizing the balance between light and dark as the year moves toward winter.Throughout the book, Campanelli provides historical contexts, rituals, spells, recipes, and crafts associated with each festival, encouraging readers to actively participate in the cycles of nature. She emphasizes themes such as gratitude, community, and the interconnectedness of life, inviting practitioners to engage with the natural world and celebrate the changing seasons. Each chapter serves as both a spiritual guide and a practical resource for those looking to deepen their connection to pagan traditions, fostering a sense of respect and appreciation for the earth's rhythms.Chapter 3 Wheel Of The Year AuthorPauline Campanelli is an American author, known for her writings on Wicca, paganism, and earth-centered spirituality. She authored the book "Wheel of the Year: Living the Magical Life" which was released in 1993 and has since become a fundamental work for those interested in neo-pagan practices, especially for those following the Wheel of the Year in their spiritual traditions.Apart from "Wheel of the Year," Campanelli has written several other books, including:"The Witch's Book of the Dead""The Magical Herbalism" (co-authored with Artemisia Cross)"Wicca: A Guide for the Solitary Practitioner" (as an inspirational...

The FA Trophy and FA Vase begin this weekend. The Trophy has a rare Preliminary Round and the FA Vase the First Round Qualifying Round. Phil Annets is on hand to offer some stats and insight into the ties coming up this weekend, which is a busy weekend for him and Non League football. Not as busy for my next guest as while his team is back in the FA Vase after a 10-year hiatus they've been drawn away. No less exciting and still likely to be very well supported for a Step 6 side. Oliver Ellary explains more about his love for Non League and Staines & Lammas (Middlesex) FC Jon OCuch is the man with the Non League Paper round-up. Not the busiest week in Non League but still managerial changes and plenty to discuss.
Whether you choose to call it Lughnasadh or Lammas isn't important, what is important, however, is taking the time to celebrate the first harvest sabbat. This is a time to come together as a community to break bread and appreciate the abundance of the season. Baking a loaf of bread, gathering wild flowers, or making a corn dolly are just a few ways to honor this lovely liminal space between the end of summer and the beginning of autumn. As we take this quiet, rainy walk through the woods, envision all the ways you'll choose to mark this moment on the witch's calendar. This bonus episode explores the ancestral harvest holidays, like Lammas and Lughnasadh, generally celebrated on August 1st, and marking the beginning of the harvest of storage crops and the subtle shift towards Fall. I muse on what the practice of these holidays, the themes and perspectives they invite, might have to show us about burnout. And I share some agricultural context for the season and some questions you might want to sit with to guide your decisions about how and where to dig deep and spend your energy in preparation for fallow cycles in your own life. Although most of the episode is geared towards the Northern Hemisphere, I offer some brief thoughts for those in the Southern Hemisphere, too. Did this illuminate anything for you? If so, feel free to share. With appreciation, Kate P.S. Lughnasa, also known as Lammas, has always fascinated me as one of the lesser-known festivals. But it is deeply significant when talking about Celtic festivals. Celebrated on August 1st, this one marks the beginning of the harvest season, a time when the first grains and fruits of the year are gathered. The festival is named after the Celtic god Lugh, a deity of light and skill. Lughnasa is one of the celebrations on our wheel of the year calendar …. Which represents the cyclical nature of the seasons (which I just love). Join me today as I talk about the history of Lughnasa and some fun things we can do in our practice to celebrate it! https://witchyworkwishes.com/

My loves, welcome to a new week and another Meditation Monday. Each week, I will bring you a short meditation to set yourself up for the week ahead. You can revisit this meditation throughout the week as many times as you like.✦Today's meditation will help you to use the abundant energies of Lammas. ✦Today we draw upon the energies of Lammas. Lammas is on 1st August and is the cross-quarter festival that celebrates the peak of summer and the first gathering of our inner harvest. We begin to see what we have been working towards appear in our world, we reap the rewards, and we celebrate the joy of summer and all of our blessings. If you enjoyed this meditation, you will find a longer version with supporting journal prompts on my website: https://www.kirstygallagher.com/offers/ES95kuPq/checkout
In the Northern Hemisphere seasonal changes, this week we enter the first harvest time of Lammas. Venus (Relational One) in Leo squares Uranus (Maverick) in Taurus waking you up to make necessary changes in your relationships (with self and others). Come out more visibly in your uniqueness and release patterns of seeking approval from others to feel worthy. The New Moon in Leo invites you to shine your gifts, radiate your creative love and warmth from your Inner Sovereign. Mercury (Communicator) turns retrograde (seemingly backtracking in the heavens) to begin a 3-week journey of reviewing ideas, mental patterns and expression. Chani says: "This particular backtrack begins in meticulous Virgo and then rewinds into showboating Leo. This transit reminds us that when we refine the ways that we share our creative gifts with the world, we attract our ideal audiences."Podcast poem: "Blessing of the Reaper" by Joanna Powell ColbertSupport the Show.Use Sheila's referral code to shop for astrology books and gifts at Chani: https://bit.ly/4a3AfqMGo to Sheila's website for information on workshops, online courses and to subscribe to her weekly newsletter: https://www.ontheedgesofchange.comFollow Sheila: https://www.instagram.com/ontheedgesofchange https://www.pinterest.com/ontheedgesofchange

Lammas, also known as Lughnasadh, is a festival celebrated on August 1st, marking the halfway point between Summer Solstice and Fall Equinox, and the first harvest of the year in the Wheel of the Year. It's a time where Nature is modeling for us the themes of gratitude and abundance, harvest and reaping, transformation and sacrifice, community and sharing, and reflection and planning. Did you know? The word Lammas actually comes from the Old English "loaf mass." People baked a loaf of bread from their first harvest and brought it to the church to be blessed. This bread was believed to have healing and protective properties, so they placed it in the corners of their homes and barns for protection and blessing. Even though the exact date of Lammas is August 1, we can celebrate this whole season. In this episode, you'll learn... the origins, history, and symbolism of Lammas what Nature is modeling for us physically, spiritually, and energetically, and how we can align 11 easy and enjoyable ways to celebrate Lammas 8 journal prompt themes to help you reflect and process the inspiration of this season Let's Go Deeper Together Join the Wild Wellness Women's Circle (monthly membership) Enroll in Rewild Your Wellness (lifetime access online course) Learn more about one-on-one coaching Free Resources Feel how you want to feel NOW with my Free Desire Map FREE Masterclass: Discover Your Spiritual Gifts Sign up for a FREE 1:1 coaching curiosity call Let's Connect! Lughnasadh, or Lammas, honours the midpoint between the Summer Solstice and the Autumn Equinox. This year it is on Monday 7th August in the Northern Hemisphere. This festival's name is based on one of the most prominent gods in Irish mythology, Lugh. He is a warrior, king, master, craftsman and saviour. He is associated with skill and mastery in multiple disciplines, including the arts. This is a time when we mark the turning of the wheel of the year and start to prepare for the departure of the warm summer months. Be sure to take time to relax and reflect on your achievements and the good times that are abound. This episode explores how you can get into the spirit of Lughnasadh no matter where you are in the Northern Hempishere. The modern calendar owes its existence to the most famous of all Roman emperors, Julius Caesar. In 46 B.C., he ordered the creation of a new, highly organized calendar to replace the messy system that was in use at the time. With a few minor revisions, we still use that calendar today. One of those revisions is the names of the months of July and August. Under the original Roman calendar, the year began with March. The two hot summer months were called Quintilis and Sextilis — names that mean the fifth month and sixth month. But soon after the new calendar was introduced, the Roman Senate honored its benefactor by changing the name of Quintilis to July. Then, in the year 8 B.C., emperor Augustus Caesar decided that he should have his own month, so Sextilis was changed to August. Scholars disagree on whether other changes were made when August was named. Some say that Sextilis originally contained only 30 days, but Augustus added a day so that his month would be as long as that of Julius Caesar. Incidentally, August 1st is the date of an ancient English festival called Lammas. It's a “cross-quarter” day — a day that's roughly half-way between a solstice and an equinox. In some cultures, the cross-quarter days marked the beginnings of the seasons, not their mid-points as they do today. Lammas was a day for celebrating the first harvest — marking an important date on the imperial summer calendar. Script by Damond Benningfield Support McDonald Observatory

In this solo episode, I talk about the importance of recognizing the seasonal transition from summer solstice to autumn equinox, and connecting with nature during this time. This includes celebrating the Celtic Fire Festival called Lammas or Lughnasa, the story of Lugh (an Irish mythic hero), practicing traditional harvesting techniques, speaking out and harvesting responsibly, and connecting with the energy of the goddess, Demeter, a frequent companion of Hekate, Mother of Persephone, and a great teacher for standing in our power and taking account. Finally, this is an opportunity to practice harvesting your life's abundance while aligning root, heart, and crown energy centers through a meditation. I read from The Celtic Spirit: Daily Meditations for the Turning Year by Caitlin Matthews Watch the video version of this episode, with CC and searchable transcript HERE. Lammas is essentially the pagan harvest festival and it doesn't get a lot of attention - not as much as Beltane or Yule - but it's still a really important time to honour and hold space for. Traditionally ushered in the ending of hunger and to celebrate the abundance that the land had produced. It was also quite a sexually charged event with the sexes coming together to harvest the crops and we see marital fairs set up and temporary marriages arranged which could be made permanent after a year if the couple agreed to it. How is this festival relevant today in our modern world and what lessons can we learn from it? All my links are here.
