In this episode of PoPolitickin, we politick with Lena Jackson. Lena Jackson is an underground hip-hop artist and poet hailing from Raleigh, North Carolina. Primarily born and raised in poverty stricken areas, Lena grew up with music as her focal point of comfort, with writing as her therapy. Jackson started penning poetry as a child, but later became intrigued by cypher sessions she would see in school cafeterias in her early teens. She eventually learned to interchange poetry stanzas for rap bars, and found pleasure in both spoken word and cypher rapping. Ms Proper began writing at the age of eight under the influence of her poetic mother. After years of transforming her craft and exploring the recording process it wasn't until 2005 that she began to take her career as a musician more seriously. With her heart into music, she created So Proper Entertainment and employed a roster of other talented artists in the Virginia area to whom she executive produced albums for. However, her love for music broadened once listeners requested that she release her own compilation of songs for them to enjoy, which birthed her debut mixtape, Addicted To The Game. In 2007, Ms Proper was selected to perform in her first show at the Byrd Theatre in Richmond, Virginia. It was at that time that she knew how much she truly loved being an artist herself.
