We review the new Audi RS6 Avant Performance, G99 BMW M5 Touring, Mercedes-AMG S63 E Performance and Porsche Panamera Turbo S E-Hybrid. One looks spectacular, one has the most impressive suspension of all time, and one is unbuyable. === This episode is sponsored by Vyper Industrial — America's #1 rated shop chair, tool carts, and creepers, proudly made here in the US. Visit vyperindustrial.com and use code CARMUDGEON for $50 off. === Welcome to the performance wagon episode! We've got Jason's blue E30 325i Touring in the garage as we discuss a pair of long-roof autobahn bruisers: the G99 BMW M5 Touring and C8 Audi RS6 Avant Performance. With the cancellation of Porsche's Panamera Sport Turismo, we turn to Porsche's top-spec suppository in its stead: the Panamera Turbo S E-Hybrid. And, similarly, with the E63 wagon gone, we'll review the Mercedes-AMG S63 E Performance to tide us over until the new E53 wagon arrives. Starting with the brand new BMW M5 Touring: a letdown as serious as its curb weight. A twin-turbo hot-vee V-8 alongside some EV juice dolls out 717 hp, but long before you're able to stretch its legs the suspension will have you nauseous. It heaves and lunges over road imperfections, and the rear-wheel steering makes it feel like you're perpetually entering the D dimension. Even with new, chunky-sidewalled Pirelli P Zero R tires, the ride is harsh, and the suspension is blatantly unfinished. Do a hard launch and prepare for simultaneous – and yet somehow also out-of-phase – wheelspin and violent pogoing. Things aren't much better styling-wise – the front-end treatment is positively hideous, and there's comparatively little backseat and cargo room next to the Audi. Overall, a huge let down, and a far cry from the delightful G80 M3 (buck teeth aside). Sadly, it will be a long, long while before we can import the G80 M3 Touring. However, it's worth noting that early M products have had teething issues before (including the beloved E90 M3). Jason suggests waiting for the arrival of the Competition Pack, but you'll still be stuck with a gaudy interior and byzantine infotainment system. The Audi RS6 Performance on the other hand is an absolute delight and unexpectedly fabulous. Without the bulk of hybrid batteries, the Audi weighs in at 400 lbs lighter than the Bimmer. It's all-around gorgeous – inside and out – and has loads of room for both passengers and cargo. Its steering is genuinely superior to the BMW's and Jason dubs it the “best wagon in the world.” As for the Porsche Panamera Turbo S E-Hybrid – it's Bose's 1990s dream realized. Jason heralds it as the most impressive suspension he's ever felt – ever. Like if a Rolls-Royce could turn. It comes equipped with the same potent powertrain found in the Bentley Continental GT Speed and Flying Spur, which is so powerful it earned the Porsche the label of quickest 4-door ICE car ever (the 4-door electric monsters still have it beat – the Lucid Air Sapphire and Tesla Model S Plaid both run in the 9s). And lastly, we have Mercedes-AMG S63 E Performance – a charmer. The interior is slightly gaudy but otherwise splendid. Our particular car's cabin was a huge improvement over the Macanese bordellos of previous W223s and W222s. The convoluted and clunky drivetrain was an occasional annoyance (and has origins as far back as the first C43 and E63 wagon), but the Benz was mostly a delight to operate despite weighing more than a fully laden minivan – and 3000 lbs more than Jason's E30. The boys wonder why Mercedes has refused to implement the types of suspensions Porsche and Ferrari figured out for their sports cars years ago that allow for ultra-smooth cruising without sacrificing handling. In any case, the S63's ¼-mile time leaves Derek's jaw on the floor. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

Jim Cassidy was just 18 years old when he first made his mark in Australian racing with a Brisbane Cup win on Four Crowns. He was back eighteen months later to win the Melbourne Cup with a barnstorming run on Kiwi. Some say the gelding produced the fastest finish in Cup history. In 1984 he was offered a plumb job in Sydney and so began an adventure destined to take the Wellington born jockey to 104 Gr 1 wins. In between times there were some thrilling highs and some gut wrenching lows. In this lengthy chat Jim talks with customary candour about his life in racing- from his first win at Wairoa in 1978 to his swansong on Victorian Oaks day 2015.  He begins by explaining the origins of his legendary nickname “The Pumper”. The former jockey says the nickname came from his unique style in the saddle. Jim looks back on the publication of his widely read 2016 autobiography “The Pumper”.  He goes back to the closing weeks of his riding career. A winner at his last Sydney ride, and his final Melbourne Cup carnival. Jim agrees the Victorian Oaks was numerically his most significant Gr 1 race. He looks back on his rides over the first three days of that Melbourne Cup carnival. Jim takes us back to childhood days in Wellington when his ambition to be an All Black far outweighed any riding aspirations. He reminisces about an uninspiring education. The legendary jockey takes us back to work experience with two trainers and finally an apprenticeship with Patrick Campbell. He says he thought his first winner would never come. Once it happened there was no stopping the little dynamo. Jim reminisces about his wins in the 1981 O'Shea Stakes and Brisbane Cup on Four Crowns after which he tells the riveting Kiwi story. He's never forgotten the phone call from Bob Lapointe and the offer to be a part of a powerful Sydney conglomerate. At first he thought the phone call was a ruse. Jim remembers the early days of his new job and the arrival of an English horse destined for a brief but brilliant campaign in Sydney.  The great jockey experienced several low points including the horror of a home invasion which came as a massive fright for himself and wife Helen. In typical fashion he turned up at the races and rode multiple winners. He looks back on his all time most satisfying day at the races- six winners at a Rosehill Saturday meeting in 1987. Jim looks back on a low key midweek meeting and a horse called Cruising. His ride incurred the wrath of the stewards who hit him with a 12 month ban. He says nobody would have been seen to advantage on the horse in question. He's very proud of his three win record in the AJC Australian Derby. He takes us through his trio of victories in the historic race. Cassidy still rues the fact that he never won a Melbourne Cup for Bart Cummings. It still pains him that he could have ridden Kingston Rule in 1990, but stuck solid to another stable. He talks of his association with another Cummings top liner, the ill fated Shaftesbury Avenue. Jim pays tribute to Malcolm Ayoub an old fashioned masseur who got him through many aches and pains. “The Boss” also became his greatest friend and inspiration. A fitting tribute is on the agenda for the Kiwi wonder horse Rough Habit, one of Jim's all time favourites. The former legendary jockey is happy to take us through the infamous “Jockey Tape” scandal. The story broke on the day he was to ride Flying Spur in the Golden Slipper. It cost him a win in the great two year old race and resulted in a five year disqualification later reduced to three. He was back in 21 months with a resolve that had never been stronger. The best of Jim Cassidy was yet to come. On resuming he needed a top horse to regenerate his career. He found Might And Power and his comeback was complete. Six years after being robbed of Slipper victory on Flying Spur, he finally won the great race on Gai's filly Ha Ha.  Jim was pretty chuffed to win the Coolmore Stud Stakes on Zoustar, now a champion stallion. It was his 100th win at the elite level. He retired with 104. Another skilful professional came into Jim's life in 1997. By this stage of his career the injuries were taking their toll. Vietnamese born masseur Long Nguyen used some unorthodox methods but got some amazing results for the jockey. Jim pays tribute to daughters Nicolle, Sarsha and Piper and to his much loved grandchildren. Piper's mother is his second wife Vicky of whom he speaks with reverence. In conclusion he acknowledges the brilliant career of younger brother Larry who's currently recovering from injury. Jim was slightly embarrassed to learn what Larry had to say about him in a recent interview. It's a comprehensive chat with one of the best jockeys of a golden generation.

The Bentley Flying Spur dropped Continental from its name nearly over a decade ago but doesn't leave the name's heritage. From the mythos of the Blue Train to the demands of its clientele, Bentley's large Flying Spur sedan has big shoes to fill. Helping it live up to those lofty expectations, Bentley has equipped the Flying Spur with three different powertrains. There's a Flying Spur hybrid, for those who want to be more conscious of their consumption, a V8 for those who are concerned about the exhaust note, and a W12 for the discerning customer who loves twelve cylinders. While we've sampled the Flying Spur hybrid, this particular tester's 4.0-liter V8 sends 542 hp and 568 through the eight-speed automatic transmission. From there, power travels through an all-wheel-drive system before making its way to the wheels. On this episode of Quick Spin, Autoweek's Mark Vaughn hops behind the wheel of the 2024 Bentley Flying Spur and puts it through its paces. Vaughn takes you on a tour of the Flying Spur to highlight some of his favorite features and then takes you along on a live drive review. Joining those segments, Vaughn chats with host Wesley Wren about his time with the Bentley. The pair discuss the Flying Spur's competition, its price, and more. Closing the show, the pair break down what makes the Flying Spur special.

Bentley isn't known for being an environmentally or economically conscious purchase: it's a luxury purchase. Bentley also has a long history of performance behind its names, which means there's an understanding that your Bentley will not only whisk you away in style, it'll do so in a hurry. Well, the times are changing, and Bentley is ushering electrified powertrains into its portfolio. Part of this push is a hybrid powertrain-equipped Flying Spur. The company's flagship sedan now features a 2.9-liter V6 that mates to a hybrid system and sends 536 hp and 553 lb-ft of torque to the wheels. Admittedly, that's down slightly in power from the V8, but you see an increase in fuel efficiency of 2 mpg combined over that V8. That means the Flying Spur Hybrid sees a 19 mpg combined. On this episode of Quick Spin, host Wesley Wren hops behind the wheel of the 2022 Bentley Flying Spur Hybrid and puts it through its paces. Wren shows you around the Flying Spur and highlights its styling and features before taking you along for a drive review. Wren chats with west coast editor Mark Vaughn about the Flying Spur and expands on these segments. The two chat about the hybrid powertrain, the electrification of Bentley and more. Closing the show, the two break down what makes this Flying Spur special.

This past year could be charitably described as “mixed” for the automotive industry. After what turned out to be a relatively brief blip due to the outbreak of COVID-19 the previous year, consumer demand returned with a vengeance in 2021.But although factories were back up and running, another virus-related hiccup — a shortage of semiconductors — forced most of the world's top automakers to cut production. All told, vehicle sales increased last year, but still remained shy of their pre-pandemic numbers. One very niche subset of the market, however, came out of 2021 stronger than ever.CNN reports that several ultra-luxury auto brands — whose cars and SUVs sell, at minimum, for the price of your typical three-bedroom suburban home – saw record sales numbers last year.British automakers Rolls-Royce and Bentley each posted new highs last year, while Italy's Lamborghini is also poised to report strong sales numbers.Company officials credited strong consumer demand and continued low interest rates, but those brands also operate on different scales than global automakers who reported less rosy calendar years.Ultra-luxury vehicles are often tailored specifically to individual customers over weeks or months, and because the extremely expensive cars only appeal to thousands of potential buyers around the world, lineup changes can have a disproportionate effect on sales.Still, CNN noted, models debuted by Rolls-Royce and Bentley in 2021 could be considered economical for those brands. A redesign of the Rolls-Royce Ghost started at more than $300,000, while Bentley saw sales of its Flying Spur, with an option for a less-expensive V8 engine, nearly double. Bentley also benefited from strong sales of a new hybrid SUV.Rolls-Royce also reportedly claimed a record-high average vehicle price for 2021, although the Rolls-Royce Boat Tail skewed that number. Only three are being made, and they will cost a reported $25 million.

It's  Martyn Lee here and I go through every EV story so you don't have to.   Thank you to MYEV.com for helping make this show, they've built the first marketplace specifically for Electric Vehicles. It's a totally free marketplace that simplifies the buying and selling process, and help you learn about EVs along the way too.   VOLKSWAGEN TO SELL STAKE IN ELECTRIFY AMERICA   - Volkswagen is to sell a stake in its electric vehicle charging unit Electrify America, two people familiar with the matter said, as the carmaker looks for outside funds to build infrastructure for battery-powered cars.   - Set up in the aftermath of Volkswagen's emissions cheating scandal that broke in the United States, Electrify America plans to spend $2 billion in the 2017-2026 period to expand charging stations for electric vehicles (EV).   - Charging infrastructure has attracted several sectors, including utilities, carmakers and big oil firms, all hoping to cash in on a rising demand for electricity in the wake of a global EV rollout. Sources told Reuters last week that Renault and Shell were both interested in becoming co-owners in Ionity, the European EV charging joint venture owned by BMW Hyundai, Ford, Daimler and VW.   Original Source : https://www.cnbc.com/2021/07/06/volkswagen-reportedly-wants-to-sell-stake-in-charging-unit-electrify-america.html       PREMIUM ELECTRIC CAR OF THE YEAR 2021: HYUNDAI IONIQ 5   - The Hyundai Ioniq 5 is the 2021 Auto Express Premium Electric Car of the Year, with the Audi Q4 e-tron and Tesla Model 3 commended   - With the Ioniq 5, Hyundai has stepped up a level from its already highly-rated Kona Electric. Here, the Korean brand has aimed for the premium territory, and it's nailed the brief at its first attempt.   - Like the Hyundai, the Audi Q4 e-tron is a very recent newcomer to the segment – and it runs our winner close. Practicality is staggering for the car's modest footprint, and on the move it's comfortable and easy to drive. However, the Q4 must play second best to the Ioniq because it can't keep up with its more advanced charging tech.   - the Model 3 seems like an old-timer in this segment now, such is the rate of progress. However, it remains tough to beat in some areas – in particular the ease of access to its Supercharger network, and its huge touchscreen display. Elsewhere, it doesn't quite feel as sophisticated as the newest rivals,    Original Source : https://www.autoexpress.co.uk/hyundai/ioniq-5/355451/premium-electric-car-year-2021-hyundai-ioniq-5?utm_source=pocket_mylist   CAR AND DRIVER'S 2021 EV OF THE YEAR   - If an automaker wanted to convert people from EV skeptics to EV evangelists, it's hard to imagine a better vehicle for the job than the Ford Mustang Mach-E. It arrives in the familiar shape and size of the crossovers Americans love, at a price that competes with gas-powered alternatives, and with a design that gets noticed. The Mach-E has the range and charging speed to wave off the most common EV criticisms, and thanks to Electrify America's recent work, there's a nationwide charging network that makes long interstate trips not just possible but tolerable. For new EV converts, piloting a Mach-E isn't so different from driving a gas-burning SUV that it feels foreign, yet the experience is futuristic enough to be exciting. It's the right car to bring drivers along during this watershed moment as EVs transition from niche alternative to new normal.   Original Source : https://www.caranddriver.com/news/a36877450/2021-ford-mustang-mach-e-ev-of-the-year/?utm_source=pocket_mylist   BENTLEY REVEALS FLYING SPUR HYBRID   - Bentley Motors, the 102-year-old ultraluxury automaker under Volkswagen Group, revealed its newest hybrid model on Tuesday. The company says this latest iteration of the Flying Spur Hybrid is its most environmentally friendly vehicle yet.   - the new powertrain of the hybrid Flying Spur combines a 2.9 liter V6 engine with an electric motor. The engine achieves 410 HP and 550 Nm of torque up to 5,650 rpm, and the motor, which is located between the transmission and the engine, provides up to 134 HP   - 14.1 kWh lithium ion battery   Original Source : https://techcrunch.com/2021/07/06/bentley-reveals-flying-spur-hybrid-its-latest-in-the-push-towards-electric/?utm_source=pocket_mylist   GM FILES TO BRAND ETRUNK FOR ELECTRIC CAR FRONT TRUNK   - General Motors has filed to trademark ETRUNK, GM Authority has uncovered. The filing may be used in branding for a feature slated for a selection of GM's upcoming electric cars, trucks, and utility vehicles.   - The trademark filing is likely a new brand name intended for use with a GM front truck feature (sometimes referred to as a “frunk”) slated for use in a selection of the automaker's upcoming electric vehicles.   Original Source : https://gmauthority.com/blog/2021/06/gm-files-to-brand-etrunk-for-electric-car-front-trunk/   JLR RUMOURED TO BE AESC'S NEXT CUSTOMER   - Envisions CEO Lei Zhang said in an interview that Envision were in talks with Jaguar Land Rover, as well as other automobile manufacturers in the UK about the delivery of battery cells.   - Jaguar Land Rover has not reacted to the report. The 2022 Bentley Flying Spur sits atop Bentley's hierarchy of grand cruisers, meaning it is as posh as it is powerful. Sharing a platform with its two-door Continental GT stablemate, this stretched Bentley has enough space to be hauled around like a luxuriating executive but is fun enough to drive to take the wheel yourself when the time comes. With either a W12 or a V8 under the Flying Spur's hood, it's no slouch by any means. Top rung W12 models send 626 hp through the eight-speed transmission and to all four wheels. The V8 makes less power, expectedly, and only sends 542 hp through the same eight-speed transmission. While power is important, it's not everything about the Flying Spur. Competing with the likes of Maybach and Rolls-Royce, the Bentley Flying Spur's cabin is nicer than most homes, and is stuffed with leather and other high-end materials. On this episode of Quick Spin, Autoweek's Wes Raynal puts Bentley's Flying Spur through its paces. Raynal walks you around this V8-powered Bentley Flying Spur and shows off its features and details. Raynal also takes you out while he tests the Flying Spur, which gives you a look into a real-time drive review. Expanding on his thoughts, Raynal talks with host Wesley Wren in the studio. The pair discuss this Bentley's place in the world before breaking it down to the essentials and talking about what makes it special.

It’s Martyn Lee here and I go through every EV story so you don't have to.   Thank you to MYEV.com for helping make this show, they’ve built the first marketplace specifically for Electric Vehicles. It’s a totally free marketplace that simplifies the buying and selling process, and help you learn about EVs along the way too.   TESLA DROPS PRICES OF MODEL 3 BY AS MUCH AS 24% "Tesla (TSLA) cut the price of its base variants of the Model 3 sedan and Model Y sports utility vehicle but raised the prices for performance models in the U.S.  Tesla stock fell. The Model 3 Standard Range Plus is $1,000 cheaper at $36,990, while a Model Y Standard Range costs $2,000 less and is priced at $39,990. But the prices for the Performance variant of the Model 3 and Y each rose $1,000. The Model 3 now costs $55,990 and Model Y rose to $60,990." says INvestors.com "In Japan, the base price of the standard version of a Model 3 was cut to 4.29 million yen, which is about $40,500. The long-range version now goes for 4.99 million yen or $47,200. Tesla hopes the price cuts will spur sales in Japan, where it sold fewer than 2,000 cars last year.   Why? Forthcoming tax credit? Increasing competition? Market share?   Electrek coment from Eric: In Vermont, the $2500 state tax credit applies to vehicles with a base model under $40,000. Before today, only the Model 3 qualified (as well as the VW iD.4, but not the Ford Mustang-e). After today, the Model Y now qualifies for the state credit. Even if you purchase a higher priced model. I wonder how many other states have a $40,000 base cap? That might be the reason to drop the base vehicle but not the more popular LR AWD version.   User NeverFollow: The $40k Model Y SR includes Premium Interior so it is even a better deal than the $37k Model 3 SR+, also the Model Y SR can have a tow hitch. The Premium Interior has LED fog lamps and Premium Audio (14 speakers, 1 subwoofer, 2 amps). Anyway $1,000 when you need to spend $40,000 don't make a big difference.   https://twitter.com/teslamotorsjp/status/1361939264716427265?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1361939264716427265%7Ctwgr%5E%7Ctwcon%5Es1_&ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fdriveteslacanada.ca%2Fmodel-3%2Ftesla-drops-prices-model-3-japan-by-as-much-as-24%2F   https://www.investors.com/news/tesla-stock-model-3-model-y-prices-slashed-amid-ev-competition/?src=A00220   ALL-ELECTRIC VOLVO XC RECHARGE CONFIRMED FOR AUSTRALIA IN MID-2021 "The XC40 Recharge Pure Electric will be launched in Australia in August, Volvo’s Australian arm has confirmed. The all-electric compact SUV will be launched shortly after the arrival of its plug-in hybrid stablemate, and will be the Swedish-Chinese carmaker’s first electric passenger car to reach the Australian auto market." reports TheDrive.io: "With a 72.5kWh battery (usable capacity) offering around 325km real-world driving range, the all-electric XC40 Recharge promises to offer a hefty 660Nm torque from its 300kW motors, and is expected to fall just above the Tesla Model 3 in terms of price. It will join a limited, but gradually widening, electric vehicle market in Australia to compete against the Mercedes-Benz EQC and the Jaguar I-Pace."   https://thedriven.io/2021/02/17/all-electric-volvo-xc-recharge-confirmed-for-australia-in-mid-2021/   NEW NISSAN QASHQAI - 'FAKE' EV Hot off selling 34,000 units in the UK last year, in a Covid year remember, they have revealed the new Qashqai. "The 2021 Qashqai comes following Nissan’s recent announcement that it has sold over one million crossovers in the UK alone since the first generation Qashqai launched back in 2007." reports AutoExpress: "it differs from hybrid systems used in cars like the Toyota Prius because the combustion unit never drives the wheels directly. Instead, it acts as a generator, providing charge to a small battery, which then sends energy to the electric motor.  According to Nissan, this gives the e-Power unit characteristics we’ve come to expect from fully electric vehicles, such as instant torque delivery and seamless acceleration."   "Nissan is in line with current mainstream thinking in not offering a diesel engine. Instead, buyers, leasers and PCP-ers can choose from a 1.3-litre mild-hybrid and a range-extender hybrid called e-Power." says Car magazine: "This innovative drivetrain option is set to roll out in the Qashqai in 2022. It's a traditional hybrid in that there's no plug-in option. It's a parallel hybrid set-up where the engine is effectively a generator used to charge the battery pack, which then powers the electric motor to drive the wheels. Nissan says the e-Power Qashqai will enjoy the throttle response of an EV and even comes with Nissan's 'e-Pedal' technology that first debuted on the Mk2 Nissan Leaf. Backing off the throttle will deliver up to 0.2g of regenerative deceleration. The 1.5-litre petrol engine in the E-Power version features a variable compression ratio and is tuned for maximum efficiency when delivering charge to the battery pack. "   "The e-Power techology has been seen on Japan-only Note superminis but it is the first time it has been introduced in Europe. Nissan has beefed up the system for the Qashqai, though." says Sunday Times Driving "The other two powertrain options available for the new Qashqai are both 1.3-litre petrols with mild hybrid technology.   "Designer Matt Weaver said the shift to electrified-only powertrains influenced the new Qashqai’s styling because it necessitated a heightened focus on aerodynamics, highlighting the front-end’s vertical air channels and the car's slightly tapered shape as a key differentiator over the previous, non-electrified car." according to Autocar: "Chosen to offer greater affordability over a 48V system, the 12V set-up recovers energy under deceleration to power on-board systems when the engine is stopped and provide a small torque boost when accelerating."   Whatcar wasn't impressed by the engine: "Unusually for a range extender, the e-Power’s pure electric range is tiny – just 1.8 miles – meaning the engine has to run most of the time, instead of just being there as a back-up. But Nissan claims that it’s able to run at lower revs than the engine in a conventional hybrid when starting up and accelerating, making it quieter and more efficient; official fuel economy figures are still to be announced."   https://www.autoexpress.co.uk/nissan/qashqai/103735/new-2021-nissan-qashqai-revealed-hybrid-powertrain   https://www.carmagazine.co.uk/car-news/first-official-pictures/nissan/qashqai/   https://www.driving.co.uk/news/new-cars/nissan-reveals-2021-qashqai-suv/   https://www.autocar.co.uk/car-news/new-cars/all-electrified-2021-nissan-qashqai-brings-bold-new-look   https://www.whatcar.com/news/2021-nissan-qashqai-revealed-full-details-and-exclusive-pics/n22676   https://europe.nissaanews.com/en-GB/releases/all-new-nissan-qashqai   TEXAS FORD F-150 HYBRID OWNERS USING GENERATOR FUNCTIONS TO WEATHER THE STORM "With Texas, the biggest truck market in the country, currently in the middle of a nasty winter storm and subsequent widespread power outages, we've been wondering if anyone has put the generator capabilities of the 2021 Ford F-150 PowerBoost hybrid to the test. The answer is, unsurprisingly, yes. A few users at F150Gen14.com shared photos and experiences using the generator function, and they're all rather glowing." says Autoblog: "The truck's large fuel tank meant he could run it a long time without refueling, which could have been an issue as local gas pumps weren't working. We would bet that the truck also produces far fewer emissions than those outdoor generators, too.  All of these owners said they had purchased the hybrid with the upgraded 7.2-kW generator capability, though all hybrids come standard with 2.4-kW generator ability."   PLus: "Ford asks Texas dealers to loan out F-150s with ProPower onboard generators". And those with home storage such as Tesla Powerwalls and other brands have also found how invaluable home storage can me.   The Honda E has an 1.5kW AC socket to tap into it's 35.5kWh battery.   https://www.autoblog.com/2021/02/18/2022-ford-f150-powerboost-hybrid-generator-texas-winter-blackout/   https://www.f150gen14.com/forum/threads/powerboost-7-2kw-onboard-generator-saves-the-day-3-days-during-texas-power-outage.1826/   BENTLEY TO OFFER ONLY ELECTRIC OR HYBRID CARS BY 2026 "Electrification is becoming more commonplace within car manufacturers as we near the deadline for the UK government's ban on the sale of all petrol and diesel vehicles by 2030 - and Bentley is no exception." says Drivetribe: "The high-end automaker has this week announced that it is concentrating on researching and developing sustainable and recyclable electric motors, in a bid to assist the legislatorial requirement for automakers to cease production of petrol and diesel cars from 2030 in order to avoid any hefty fines coming their way. As it stands, Bentley are due to release PHEV versions of the much-loved Continental GT and the status symbol that is of course, the Flying Spur. We also continue to wait in anticipation of Bentley announcing it's first fully-electric model in 2025 - hopefully the EXP 100 GT will be looked back in history as something exemplar in having changed the course of the design for Bentley's future models."   https://drivetribe.com/p/bentley-to-offer-only-electric-eJUzXojwTUyEd-0xi4l8ag   https://www.bentley-press.be/bentley-sets-out-path-to-sustainable-recyclable-electric-motors     NEW QUESTION OF THE WEEK With my 1000th podcast around the corner, what kind of media coverage do you want in 2021?   Send me your answer: hello@evnewsdaily.com     You can listen to all 996 previous episodes of this this for free, where you get your podcasts from, plus the blog https://www.evnewsdaily.com/ – remember to subscribe, which means you don’t have to think about downloading the show each day, plus you get it first and free and automatically.   It would mean a lot if you could take 2mins to leave a quick review on whichever platform you download the podcast.   And  if you have an Amazon Echo, download our Alexa Skill, search for EV News Daily and add it as a flash briefing.   Come and say hi on Facebook, LinkedIn or Twitter just search EV News Daily, have a wonderful day, I’ll catch you tomorrow and remember…there’s no such thing as a self-charging hybrid.     PHIL ROBERTS / ELECTRIC FUTURE (PREMIUM PARTNER) BRAD CROSBY (PREMIUM PARTNER) PORSCHE OF THE VILLAGE CINCINNATI (PREMIUM PARTNER) AUDI CINCINNATI EAST (PREMIUM PARTNER) VOLVO CARS CINCINNATI EAST (PREMIUM PARTNER) NATIONALCARCHARGING.COM and ALOHACHARGE.COM  (PREMIUM PARTNER) DEREK REILLY FROM THE EV REVIEW IRELAND YOUTUBE CHANNEL (PREMIUM PARTNER) RICHARD AT RSEV.CO.UK – FOR BUYING AND SELLING EVS IN THE UK (PREMIUM PARTNER)   DAVID AND LISA ALLEN (PARTNER) GARETH HAMER (PARTNER) eMOBILITY NORWAY HTTPS://WWW.EMOBILITYNORWAY.COM/  (PARTNER) BOB BOOTHBY – MILLBROOK COTTAGES AND ELOPEMENT WEDDING VENUE (PARTNER) DARIN MCLESKEY FROM DENOVO REAL ESTATE (PARTNER) JUKKA KUKONEN FROM WWW.SHIFT2ELECTRIC.COM RAJEEV NARAYAN (PARTNER) IAIN SEAR (PARTNER)   ADRIAN BOND (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) ALAN SHEDD (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) ALEX BANAHENE (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) ALEXANDER FRANK @ https://www.youtube.com/c/alexsuniverse42 ANDERS HOVE (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) ANDREA JEFFERSON (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) ANDREW GREEN (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) ANDY NANCARROW AND LILIAN KASS (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) ASEER KHALID (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) BÅRD FJUKSTAD (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) BLUNDERBUSS JONES (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER BRIAN THOMPSON (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) BRUCE BOHANNAN (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) CHARLES HALL (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) CHRIS HOPKINS (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) CHRISTOPHER BARTH (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) COLIN HENNESSY AND CAMBSEV (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) CRAIG ROGERS (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) DAMIEN DAVIS (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) DAVID FINCH (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) DAVID MOORE (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) DAVID PARTINGTON (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) DAVID PRESCOTT (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) DON MCALLISTER / SCREENCASTSONLINE.COM (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) ED CORTREEN (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) ERIC HANSEN (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) ERU KYEYUNE-NYOMBI (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) FREDRIK ROVIK (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) GENE RUBIN (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) HEDLEY WRIGHT (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) HEINRICH LIESNER (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) IAN GRIFFITHS (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) IAN (WATTIE) WATKINS (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) JACK OAKLEY (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) JAMES STORR (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) JAVIER CARMELO DÍAZ PÉREZ (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) JIM MORRIS (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) JOHN SCHROEDER (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) JON AKA BEARDY MCBEARDFACE FROM KENT EVS (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) JON MANCHAK (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) JUAN GONZALEZ (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) KEVIN MEYERSON (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) LAURENCE D ALLEN (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) LEE BROWN (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) LUKE CULLEY (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) MARCEL WARD (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) MARTY YOUNG  (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) MIA OPPELSTRUP (PARTNER) MIKE WINTER (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) NATHAN GORE-BROWN (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) NATHANIEL FREEDMAN (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) NEIL E ROBERTS FROM SUSSEX EVS (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) OHAD ASTON (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) PAUL STEPHENSON (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) PETE GLASS (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) PETE GORTON (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) PETER & DEE ROBERTS FROM OXON EVS (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) PHIL MOUCHET (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) PHILIP TRAUTMAN (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) RAYMOND ROWLEDGE (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) RENE KEEMIK (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) RENÉ SCHNEIDER (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) ROB HERMANS (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) ROB FROM THE RSTHINKS EV CHANNEL ON YOUTUBE (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) ROBERT GRACE (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) RUPERT MITCHELL (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) SEIKI PAYNE (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) STEPHEN PENN (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) STEVE JOHN (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) THOMAS J. Show #505   Good morning, good afternoon and good evening wherever you are in the world, welcome to EV News Daily for Wednesday 19th June 2019. It’s Martyn Lee here and I go through every EV story to save you time.   Thank you to MYEV.com for helping make this show, they’ve built the first marketplace specifically for Electric Vehicles. It’s a totally free marketplace that simplifies the buying and selling process, and help you learn about EVs along the way too.   Hello to another new PRODUCER CLINTON DESVEAUX! And new PRODUCER NEIL BUTLER   Clean Air Day with TryEV!   Tesla Day tomorrow!   WORLD'S FIRST HOMEMADE TESLA TRUCK "In a total boss move, Simone Giertz—who for a long time has wanted to own "an electric pickup truck, more specifically, a Tesla pickup,"—created her very own custom Tesla pickup, which she affectionately named "Truckla." says Popular Mechanics: "The project took a year of planning and required a complete teardown of the car's interior, including door panels and gaskets. Once that was done, the team moved on to frame modifications and used reciprocating saws and grinders to remove the Tesla's roof beams. Truckla's bed, for example, was originally the bed of a Ford F-150, while the rear window came from a GMC Canyon.   https://www.popularmechanics.com/cars/a28086506/homemade-tesla-truck-simone-giertz/   IRELAND TO BAN NEW PETROL AND DIESEL VEHICLES FROM 2030 "The Irish government plans to ban the sale of new petrol and diesel vehicles by 2030, as part of a major strategy to protect the environment." reports the BBC today: "The aim is to ensure that all new cars and vans on Irish roads in 11 years' time are electric vehicles. The proposed legislation was among 180 measures in the government's Climate Action Plan, published on Monday. The hope is that by the time the petrol and diesel vehicle ban is introduced in 2030 there will be 950,000 electric vehicles on Irish roads. The government is set to invest in a "nationwide" charging network to power the new vehicles. By 2025, at least one recharging point will be required at new non-residential buildings with more than 10 parking spaces."   https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-48668791   BENTLEY TO ELECTRIFY ALL MODELS BY 2023; EV COMING IN 2025 "according to a new report from Car and Driver, the company has a timeline for its electric plans with the company's first fully electric vehicle debuting in 2025." says Motor1.com: "Along with its first electric vehicle, Bentley plans to hybridize every model in its lineup – the Continental GT, Flying Spur, and Mulsanne. The company will likely use the same turbocharged 3.0-liter V6 in the Bentayga that's also rumored to power the Continental GT hybrid. Customers fearful a hybrid would neuter the brand need not worry. In the Bentayga, the gasoline-electric powertrain makes 443 horsepower (330 kilowatts) and 516 pound-feet (700 Newton-meters) of torque, propelling the hefty SUV to 62 miles per hour (100 kilometers per hour) in 5.5 seconds up to a top speed of 158 mph (254 kph). Plus, the added torque boost from the 17.3-kilowatt-hour lithium-ion battery will feel stupendous."   https://www.motor1.com/news/355621/bentley-electrify-models-2023-electric/   NIO BEGINS DELIVERIES OF NEW ES6 ELECTRIC CROSSOVER IN CHINA "Nio announced on Tuesday that the first ES6 electric crossovers have been delivered to their owners in Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou. It's the automaker's second mass-production model, following the larger ES8, but the company also has the EP9 electric hypercar in its portfolio, which is impressive in its own right." writes CNET: "With five seats onboard, the ES6 is smaller and shorter than the ES8, but its wheelbase is the same. Buyers have a choice of two powertrains: A pair of electric motors putting out 430 horsepower and 450 pound-feet of torque, or a beefier pair that puts out 536 hp and 535 lb-ft. Buyers can also choose between a 70-kilowatt-hour battery and an 84-kWh battery, the latter of which can reach up to 317 miles by NEDC estimates, which are usually higher than EPA estimates."   https://www.cnet.com/roadshow/news/nio-es6-electric-crossover-deliveries-china/   2020 PEUGEOT 2008 DEBUTS WITH BOLD SUV LOOKS AND AN EV OPTION "After a successful first generation, Peugeot's second-generation 2008 SUV breaks the code somewhat from the familiar formula, not the least of which is a fully electric e-2008 model we'll touch on later." according to Motor1: "The new electric Peugeot is visually the same as its internal-combustion-powered sibling, with the same interior space. In place of a fuel tank and engine, you'll find a single electric motor generating 136 horsepower (101 kilowatts) and 192 pound-feet (260 Newton-meters) of instant torque. It's driven by a rather modest 50 kWh battery, which Peugeot says is good for a range of approximately 193 miles (312 kilometers). Recharge times vary depending on the power source, but a 100kW terminal can recharge the e-2008 to 80 percent capacity in 30 minutes."   TESLA TO CHANGE DEFAULT MODEL 3 COLOR TO WHITE "Elon Musk has announced that Tesla will be switching the Model 3’s standard color from Solid Black to Simple White. After these changes are implemented, Musk noted that the Model 3’s black paint option would command a $1,000 price, similar to Midnight Metallic Silver." says Simon at Teslarati: "Utilizing a Simple White color for the Model 3’s standard paint option could play to the electric car maker’s advantages. While not as stunning as the Pearl White Multi-Coat, Simple White paint would likely attract attract far fewer scratches than the current standard Solid Black. This would likely make the Model 3 far easier to maintain, ultimately benefiting both the vehicle’s owners and Tesla itself."   https://www.teslarati.com/tesla-energy-reduces-residential-solar-costs-drops-us-rankings/   TESLA ARCADE IS HERE, LETTING YOU PLAY DRIVING SIMS WITH YOUR CAR'S STEERING WHEEL "Tesla has begin rolling out an update that will effectively turn its cars into a proper gaming platform. Show #413.   Can You Help Me Fight The Fossils? Read More About Patreon here EVne.ws/patreon   Read today’s show notes on https://www.evnewsdaily.com   Good morning, good afternoon and good evening wherever you are in the world, welcome to EV News Daily for Tuesday 12th March 2019. It’s Martyn Lee here and I’ve been through every EV story I could find today, and picked out the best ones to save you time.   Welcome to a new Patreon of the podcast…PRODUCER DOUG VOWLES. And increasing his support is CHRIS BENSON.   Thank you to MYEV.com for helping make this show, they’ve built the first marketplace specifically for Electric Vehicles. It’s a totally free marketplace that simplifies the buying and selling process, and help you learn about EVs along the way too.     Volkswagen plans 22 million electric vehicles in ten years The Volkswagen Group is forging ahead with the fundamental change of system in individual mobility and systematically aligning with electric drives. The Group is planning to launch almost 70 new electric models in the next ten years – instead of the 50 previously planned. As a result, the projected number of vehicles to be built on the Group’s electric platforms in the next decade will increase from 15 million to 22 million. Expanding e-mobility is an important building block on the road to a CO2-neutral balance. Volkswagen has signed off a comprehensive decarbonization program aimed at achieving a fully CO2-neutral balance in all areas from fleet to production to administration by 2050. Volkswagen is thus fully committed to the Paris climate targets. In order to support the electric offensive, LG Chem, SKI, CATL and Samsung were selected as strategic battery cell suppliers. In view of the constantly increasing demand, Volkswagen is also taking a close look at possible participation in battery cell manufacturing facilities in Europe. Looking further ahead, solid-state batteries also have great potential. The goal is to enable an industrial level of production with this technology together with our partner QuantumScape.   https://www.volkswagenag.com/en/news/2019/03/VW_Group_JPK_19.html   Porsche Next-Gen Batteries Set To Provide Huge Electric Range A quote for Porsche: "The next generation of batteries will come in 2020, and will bring an increase in the ampere hours of our battery cells from 37 to 47. This will permit us to achieve larger ranges, which we will gradually introduce into our products." A Steven Loveday article on InsideEVs.com today: "Porsche CEO Oliver Blume revealed in a recent interview that the company has next-gen batteries already set for next year. These new batteries will eventually make their way into Porsche’s upcoming plug-in electric vehicles. While Blume did say that the new battery cells will go into Porsche vehicles as soon as next year, the automaker is putting greater effort into getting its upcoming Taycan launched first. The automaker already has some 20,000 people interested in the vehicle. It announced not long ago that due to the high demand, it will increase production pursuits." According to Electrek, the CEO noted that the company may try to get customers into a temporary Panamera Plug-In Hybrid if they have to wait too long for their Taycan to arrive. He explained: "If there are waiting times, we might take the opportunity to gently introduce customers to the Taycan; so for example, we could make a Panamera plug-in hybrid temporarily available to customers before they receive a Taycan. But right now we’re awaiting the start of production before we talk about specific delivery times."   https://insideevs.com/porsche-next-gen-batteries-huge-range/   Bentley Flying Spur PHEV Caught Recharging Its Battery News on the new Bentley Flying Spur: "the new generation will feature a plug-in hybrid powertrain joining the familiar V8 and W12 versions of the luxobarge. The prototype was caught charging its battery pack, which will be a part of a PHEV system likely inherited from the Porsche Panamera 4 E-Hybrid." Says Adrian Padeanu for MOtor1.com: "It is believed the PHEV variant will also offer a pure electric mode, although the battery pack’s juice (14.1 kWh in the case of the Panamera) won’t last for more than 30 miles (48 kilometers). The version with the two fuel caps will be the most economical Flying Spur of the bunch taking into consideration Bentley doesn’t have plans to install a diesel engine underneath that long and imposing hood."   https://www.motor1.com/news/308990/bentley-flying-spur-phev-spied/   Almost 75% Of Electric Car Sales In U.S. Were Teslas In February 2019 Mark Kane at InsideEVs.com as the estimated February U.S. sales figures: In February 2019, Tesla sold about 7,650 all-electric cars (InsideEVs’ estimation) in the U.S., which is 67% more than a year ago. As the overall plug-in market didn’t grow much last month, Tesla further increased its market share. Tesla results: Tesla Model 3 – 5,750 (12,250 YTD), Tesla Model X – 1,100 (2,050 YTD), Tesla Model S – 800 (1,675 YTD). Tesla holds a huge stake in plug-in car market – in February it was roughly 44% out of the total of 17,239! In the case of the all-electric car segment, Tesla’s share is 74% and it’s expected to exceed 80% again when volume deliveries of the Standard battery Model 3 version begin."   https://insideevs.com/tesla-sales-high-february-2019-u-s/   PEUGEOT e-208: price and availability "According to the French auto magazine L’Argus the PEUGEOT e-208 will have a starting price of 31.000 euros. Moreover, PEUGEOT expects the all electric variant (e-208) to represent 15 % of the new PEUGEOT 208’s sales. Last year 230.049 PEUGEOT 208 were sold in Europe, 15 % would be 34.507 cars, therefore less than Renault ZOE." According to Pedro at PushEVs: "the PEUGEOT e-208 is undeniably an appealing electric car, however I think that the Renault ZOE 2.0 will be more successful. Not only the production capacity for it will be higher, but specs are also expected to be better. According to Automobile Propre the new ZOE 2.0 will have a 61 kWh battery, which will put it in Kia e-Soul and Hyundai Kona Electric’s territory. Moreover, the 22 kW on-board charger gives it an unrivaled practicality." He also says in the comments: "While DC fast chargers are rare and expensive, public 22 kW EVSEs and common and most are free to use. That’s why I think that the 22 kW on-board charger is great to save money. Charge for free and relatively fast at commercial areas while shopping or watch a movie."   https://pushevs.com/2019/03/12/peugeot-e-208-price-and-availability/   Tesla Reportedly Talking With CATL For China Battery Order "There’s little doubt Tesla is going to explode in China, but there’s a lot the company needs to put in place. For starters, finishing construction of its Gigafactory 3 in Shanghai. But also, assuring there are battery suppliers in the area that intend to work with it." Reports Steven Loveday for InsideEVs.com: "We always take these Automotive News announcements with a grain of salt. This is because Tesla CEO Elon Musk usually comes forth on Twitter saying these announcements aren’t true. Sad but true, but still, we must share what’s reported, and in this case it’s positive once again. As reported by Automotive News: CATL has been discussing the required specifications for the batteries with Tesla officials, the people said, asking not to be named because the talks are private. Still, there’s no guarantee that an agreement will be reached, according to the people. Tesla Inc. is in talks about ordering rechargeable batteries from top Chinese producer Contemporary Amperex Technology Co. Ltd. to power Model 3 cars the U.S. electric automaker plans to start assembling at its new factory near Shanghai, people familiar with the matter said."   https://insideevs.com/tesla-talking-catl-china-battery-order/   Tesla acquires car-hauling trucks and trailers "A recent Form S-3 submitted to the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has revealed that Tesla is acquiring car carrier trucks and trailers from a California-based trucking company using over $13 million worth of Tesla shares." Says Simon at TEslarati: "Tesla’s acquisition of Central Valley Transport’s trucks will help the company optimize the delivery of its vehicles. The electric car maker’s efforts to improve its delivery processes was highlighted in the third quarter of 2018, at a time when Tesla was just getting the hang of producing the Model 3 at scale. Elon Musk noted then that Tesla has moved from “production hell” to “delivery logistics hell,” referencing the company’s struggles to get the vehicles it was producing to delivery centers where they can be picked up by their owners. To help the company address its logistics issues, Musk noted that it even started building its own car carriers to help move as many vehicles as possible."   https://www.teslarati.com/tesla-car-carrier-hauling-trucks-trailers/   Fisker teases $40,000 mass-volume EV to be revealed on March 18 Announcing our "close" to $40,000 pure electric vehicle with a teaser picture & some tech details on March 18th. #fisker #ElectricVehicle #batterytech #EVs #automotive #cars #affordableev pic.twitter.com/GuJYAQTA4C — Henrik Fisker (@henrikfisker) March 8, 2019 "Based on the teaser photo and Fisker's comments about the car, we're expecting a small crossover. To be built in the U.S. and expected to launch in 2021, this will be the company's volume model eventually aiming for several hundred thousand sales per year." Says Autoblog: "It will compete somewhere around the BMW X3 ICE category and Tesla Model Y EV segment. The only thing we know about its looks beyond the A-pillar and side mirror is Fisker's desire "to make it really futuristic-looking." At the same time, "it has to be very versatile because we obviously want to get into a certain high volume with the vehicle."   https://www.autoblog.com/2019/03/12/fisker-mass-market-ev-solid-state-battery-crossover/   COMMUNITY And thanks to MYEV.com they’ve set us another Question Of The Week.
