The latest Bentley Continental GT might not break the mold for the Continental as we've known it for decades, but it does evolve one of Bentley's most important names. While it doesn't look too different from its predecessor, this latest generation Continental GT packs some serious hardware changes at the top of its range: the Continental GT Speed. Formerly packing a W12 under the hood, the folks in Crewe have moved away from a W12 and moved toward electrification. Don't worry, working with the electric motors in the Continental GT is still a V8. This plug-in hybrid Continental GT Speed is good for 771 hp and 738 lb-ft of torque. That bests the most recent W12 by 121 hp and 74 lb-ft. And, it still rolls all the way up to 208 mph, if you can find the track to make that happen. On this episode of Quick Spin, Autoweek's Mark Vaughn hops behind the wheel of the 2025 Bentley Continental GT Speed and puts it through its paces. Vaughn takes you on a guided tour of the latest generation Continental GT and highlights some of the changes and how it feels. Later, Vaughn takes you along for a live drive review of the '25 Bentley Continental GT Speed. Adding to these segments, Vaughn chats with host Wesley Wren about the Bentley, its PHEV powertrain, its underpinnings, and the competition. Closing the show, the pair break down what makes this Bentley Continental GT Speed special.

The 2022 Bentley Flying Spur sits atop Bentley's hierarchy of grand cruisers, meaning it is as posh as it is powerful. Sharing a platform with its two-door Continental GT stablemate, this stretched Bentley has enough space to be hauled around like a luxuriating executive but is fun enough to drive to take the wheel yourself when the time comes. With either a W12 or a V8 under the Flying Spur's hood, it's no slouch by any means. Top rung W12 models send 626 hp through the eight-speed transmission and to all four wheels. The V8 makes less power, expectedly, and only sends 542 hp through the same eight-speed transmission. While power is important, it's not everything about the Flying Spur. Competing with the likes of Maybach and Rolls-Royce, the Bentley Flying Spur's cabin is nicer than most homes, and is stuffed with leather and other high-end materials. On this episode of Quick Spin, Autoweek's Wes Raynal puts Bentley's Flying Spur through its paces. Raynal walks you around this V8-powered Bentley Flying Spur and shows off its features and details. Raynal also takes you out while he tests the Flying Spur, which gives you a look into a real-time drive review. Expanding on his thoughts, Raynal talks with host Wesley Wren in the studio. The pair discuss this Bentley's place in the world before breaking it down to the essentials and talking about what makes it special.

Bentley's Continental GT has been very important to keeping the company afloat since the car's launch in 2005. Now there's a new Continental, the latest GT Speed, and it not only has the potential to be a great enthusiast's car, but also could be the final sign off for the Continental GT as we know it.

JEFF STERNS CONNECTED THROUGH CARS

Jeff Sterns 0:00 So about the new Roma very, very interesting. It's a new v eight, two plus. Now what's interesting is they say two plus but they don't say two plus two. I think you'd have just as much luck getting someone in the backseat of a 911. Don't get me wrong if you had to get somebody across town, maybe sitting a little sideways, it's workable, but you wouldn't want to do any Grand Touring from the backseat. So Ferrari's idea is that many Ferrari's from the past that made both automotive and Italian design history, thanks to their elegance, sophistication and timeless lines. The Roma's design took its inspiration from the concept of sporty elegance celebrated in the most legendary Grand Touring Ferrari of the 60s. The most striking example of those are the wildly successful 250 GTS include including not just the lusso, but also the four cedars that were favorites of Enzo himself, Enzo Ferrari who were talking about, such as the 250 GT two plus two. These cars were front engine, simple, elegant, two plus two fastback coupe design. The Roma shares many of these characteristics and embodies an extremely modern design language. The pure, refined, not loud, perfect proportions cleverly conceal Ferrari's power and sportiness and the multi award winning VA engine punches out over 600 horsepower, and really underscores the perfect marriage of performance sportiness and elegance created by this new berlinetta berlinetta means coupe. So let's talk about the look of this car. So it's very understated. The front of the car looks like it was sculpted from a single block of metal created an overhanging shark nose effect on the car, it is absolutely stunning. The wide front hood or bonnet, as they say in Europe, and fenders, they say wings. In Europe, they flow into one another and it's a very powerful contributor to the design. But it's really effortlessly harmonious if I were to put it into my own words. engine cooling is done by just some small perforated surfaces only were strictly necessary, as opposed to kind of really accenting the vents. I mean, if we think about the mid rear engine cars, or you have the scoop coming in behind the door or in the door, you know, etc, which was kind of a Ferrari trademark, this is going the other way. So the V eight turbo, making 611 horsepower at 7500 RPM has an unbelievable instantaneous throttle response, which I find interesting, considering it's everything's drive by wire now. I mean, you're not pulling the cable to the six carbs. Right. So amazing throttle action. And this is based on or thanks to what's called variable boost management. So this is the turbo not like the old days not needing to wait for four or 5000 RPMs to flip the switch the V eight with a dual clutch gearbox, of course, that's the only gearbox available now, I love the concept of a dual clutch gearbox. I mean, obviously, a human can shift as fast as the Ferrari transmission. So it makes sense in racing. And it makes sense statistically, I personally, personally enjoy the visceral experience of driving a manual transmission. But the beautiful thing about a dual clutch gearbox is one one gear is revving. It spooling up the next gear to hand it over. So there's we're already good on the power curve and the gear below it for a downshift. Of course, we don't have to talk about the exhaust in a Ferrari. I mean, is there a better soundtrack in the world. Best power to weight ratio in the segment. I got to be honest, I don't know what the other cars in the segment are. But power to weight ratio unbelievable. The room is also using a third generation electronically controlled mechanical diff in the back, which of course offers traction control, but splits the torque between the rear wheels but what's interesting is it impacts the torque between the inside and outside of the wheel. Very, very interesting. So on medium or low grip services really helps in coming out of corners. The rear spoiler that comes up, guarantees almost 200 pounds more rear downforce at nearly 200 miles an hour. I mean, that's important. Let's face it when you're approaching 200 than a Portofino without hurting the efficiency. So remember, we don't want to hurt the efficiency, the fuel economy, and we definitely don't want to hurt the beauty or elegance at lower speed. So in the Roma's cabin, Ferrari's designers came up with the idea to create two separate spaces, they call it cells, one for each driver and passenger. The idea is an evolution of the dual cockpit concept introduced and patented on the GTC for lusso. So the idea is trying to evoke a sense of continuity with the top of the range model in the Ferrari granturismo family, which also has its roots deep in the marks history, thanks to its own strong connection with cars or the likes of the 365 GTC for from the 70s. Let's talk about the infotainment system in the Ferrari Isn't that interesting? I I remember the days when people went for radio delete in Ferrari, because for purity and for let's just listen to the exhaust and let's not get distracted. But now we have infotainment that 30 to 40 buyer has a different demand. Now, when they're pulling up to that nightclub and one of the world's largest Metropolis is enjoying their single lifestyle. They're going to want some infotainment so the technology adopted for the Roma was derived from the SF 90 sturdily, it highlights the future nature of this new granturismo. So this is clear this a GT car when we talk about Gran Turismo, we're talking about something that we can travel distance in style. So the completely digital instrument cluster is integrated with the volumes around and protected by an elegant anti glare binnacle. Just like on a boat which extends out naturally from the dash so it looks organic, it looks proper. And to create a sense of symmetry. The passenger also has an optional they call it in quotes emotional display that allows them to share the driver information very interesting. So let's talk about onboard comfort or interior comfort. There are certain distinctive characteristics that make sure that the room is ideal for everyday driving in long term journeys. Now remember, a lot of Ferrari's are driven 500 or 1000 miles a year they're an occasion car. There are cars and coffee car there attract a car, there a theater car, they're pulling up to a nice party or charity event or that nightclub. We were talking about earlier car, but not so much for daily driving. That just wasn't the idea. Not that you couldn't enjoy that. Now we have a car that had daily driving and grand touring in mind. So they really didn't miss everything. The idea is a Ferrari that thanks to its typical Italian style and driving pleasure, it's a it's like a futuristic take on what finesse life in the 50s 60s Rome. If you think about portrayed by Fellini in La dolcevita that's the idea. That's a movie that inspired other great directors at the time, who also helped make the phrase dolcevita synonymous with life of enjoy luxury without concerns. Not just Italy, of course, but across the world. So if you can imagine being an actor with the girl with the hair scarf and big sunglasses and scarf going out the window or with the top down. But of course this is a coupe. So the Ferrari Roma is lanova dolcevita. So here's the cars. In the Roma competitive class, this is what Ferrari thinks they're up against. And then they want to compare against Porsche 911 turbo, Aston Martin DB 11 v eight coupe, Mercedes Benz AMG GT C, and a Bentley, Continental GT v eight. These would be the other cars on the shopping list. If you're looking at a Roma, I have to admit that's an attractive shopping list. And I don't want to say Rome is at the top of my list. But like very often in my life. The last one I saw the last one I sat in is the one that I want most when people say, Jeff, what's your favorite I say the one I just drove. So I'll say for now since the Rome was the last one that I spent some time with that that would be my favorite. I hope you enjoy taking a look at this car as much as I did. Thank you very, very much to Ferrari Tampa Bay for giving me a chance to make this piece on the car and to show off their car and they were very hospitable. A great crew up there. It’s a totally free marketplace that simplifies the buying and selling process, and help you learn about EVs along the way too.   TESLA DROPS PRICES OF MODEL 3 BY AS MUCH AS 24% "Tesla (TSLA) cut the price of its base variants of the Model 3 sedan and Model Y sports utility vehicle but raised the prices for performance models in the U.S.  Tesla stock fell. The Model 3 Standard Range Plus is $1,000 cheaper at $36,990, while a Model Y Standard Range costs $2,000 less and is priced at $39,990. But the prices for the Performance variant of the Model 3 and Y each rose $1,000. The Model 3 now costs $55,990 and Model Y rose to $60,990." says INvestors.com "In Japan, the base price of the standard version of a Model 3 was cut to 4.29 million yen, which is about $40,500. The long-range version now goes for 4.99 million yen or $47,200. Tesla hopes the price cuts will spur sales in Japan, where it sold fewer than 2,000 cars last year.   Why? Forthcoming tax credit? Increasing competition? Market share?   Electrek coment from Eric: In Vermont, the $2500 state tax credit applies to vehicles with a base model under $40,000. Before today, only the Model 3 qualified (as well as the VW iD.4, but not the Ford Mustang-e). After today, the Model Y now qualifies for the state credit. Even if you purchase a higher priced model. I wonder how many other states have a $40,000 base cap? That might be the reason to drop the base vehicle but not the more popular LR AWD version.   User NeverFollow: The $40k Model Y SR includes Premium Interior so it is even a better deal than the $37k Model 3 SR+, also the Model Y SR can have a tow hitch. The Premium Interior has LED fog lamps and Premium Audio (14 speakers, 1 subwoofer, 2 amps). Anyway $1,000 when you need to spend $40,000 don't make a big difference.   https://twitter.com/teslamotorsjp/status/1361939264716427265?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1361939264716427265%7Ctwgr%5E%7Ctwcon%5Es1_&ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fdriveteslacanada.ca%2Fmodel-3%2Ftesla-drops-prices-model-3-japan-by-as-much-as-24%2F   https://www.investors.com/news/tesla-stock-model-3-model-y-prices-slashed-amid-ev-competition/?src=A00220   ALL-ELECTRIC VOLVO XC RECHARGE CONFIRMED FOR AUSTRALIA IN MID-2021 "The XC40 Recharge Pure Electric will be launched in Australia in August, Volvo’s Australian arm has confirmed. The all-electric compact SUV will be launched shortly after the arrival of its plug-in hybrid stablemate, and will be the Swedish-Chinese carmaker’s first electric passenger car to reach the Australian auto market." reports TheDrive.io: "With a 72.5kWh battery (usable capacity) offering around 325km real-world driving range, the all-electric XC40 Recharge promises to offer a hefty 660Nm torque from its 300kW motors, and is expected to fall just above the Tesla Model 3 in terms of price. It will join a limited, but gradually widening, electric vehicle market in Australia to compete against the Mercedes-Benz EQC and the Jaguar I-Pace."   https://thedriven.io/2021/02/17/all-electric-volvo-xc-recharge-confirmed-for-australia-in-mid-2021/   NEW NISSAN QASHQAI - 'FAKE' EV Hot off selling 34,000 units in the UK last year, in a Covid year remember, they have revealed the new Qashqai. "The 2021 Qashqai comes following Nissan’s recent announcement that it has sold over one million crossovers in the UK alone since the first generation Qashqai launched back in 2007." reports AutoExpress: "it differs from hybrid systems used in cars like the Toyota Prius because the combustion unit never drives the wheels directly. Instead, it acts as a generator, providing charge to a small battery, which then sends energy to the electric motor.  According to Nissan, this gives the e-Power unit characteristics we’ve come to expect from fully electric vehicles, such as instant torque delivery and seamless acceleration."   "Nissan is in line with current mainstream thinking in not offering a diesel engine. Instead, buyers, leasers and PCP-ers can choose from a 1.3-litre mild-hybrid and a range-extender hybrid called e-Power." says Car magazine: "This innovative drivetrain option is set to roll out in the Qashqai in 2022. It's a traditional hybrid in that there's no plug-in option. It's a parallel hybrid set-up where the engine is effectively a generator used to charge the battery pack, which then powers the electric motor to drive the wheels. Nissan says the e-Power Qashqai will enjoy the throttle response of an EV and even comes with Nissan's 'e-Pedal' technology that first debuted on the Mk2 Nissan Leaf. Backing off the throttle will deliver up to 0.2g of regenerative deceleration. The 1.5-litre petrol engine in the E-Power version features a variable compression ratio and is tuned for maximum efficiency when delivering charge to the battery pack. "   "The e-Power techology has been seen on Japan-only Note superminis but it is the first time it has been introduced in Europe. Nissan has beefed up the system for the Qashqai, though." says Sunday Times Driving "The other two powertrain options available for the new Qashqai are both 1.3-litre petrols with mild hybrid technology.   "Designer Matt Weaver said the shift to electrified-only powertrains influenced the new Qashqai’s styling because it necessitated a heightened focus on aerodynamics, highlighting the front-end’s vertical air channels and the car's slightly tapered shape as a key differentiator over the previous, non-electrified car." according to Autocar: "Chosen to offer greater affordability over a 48V system, the 12V set-up recovers energy under deceleration to power on-board systems when the engine is stopped and provide a small torque boost when accelerating."   Whatcar wasn't impressed by the engine: "Unusually for a range extender, the e-Power’s pure electric range is tiny – just 1.8 miles – meaning the engine has to run most of the time, instead of just being there as a back-up. But Nissan claims that it’s able to run at lower revs than the engine in a conventional hybrid when starting up and accelerating, making it quieter and more efficient; official fuel economy figures are still to be announced."   https://www.autoexpress.co.uk/nissan/qashqai/103735/new-2021-nissan-qashqai-revealed-hybrid-powertrain   https://www.carmagazine.co.uk/car-news/first-official-pictures/nissan/qashqai/   https://www.driving.co.uk/news/new-cars/nissan-reveals-2021-qashqai-suv/   https://www.autocar.co.uk/car-news/new-cars/all-electrified-2021-nissan-qashqai-brings-bold-new-look   https://www.whatcar.com/news/2021-nissan-qashqai-revealed-full-details-and-exclusive-pics/n22676   https://europe.nissaanews.com/en-GB/releases/all-new-nissan-qashqai   TEXAS FORD F-150 HYBRID OWNERS USING GENERATOR FUNCTIONS TO WEATHER THE STORM "With Texas, the biggest truck market in the country, currently in the middle of a nasty winter storm and subsequent widespread power outages, we've been wondering if anyone has put the generator capabilities of the 2021 Ford F-150 PowerBoost hybrid to the test. The answer is, unsurprisingly, yes. A few users at F150Gen14.com shared photos and experiences using the generator function, and they're all rather glowing." says Autoblog: "The truck's large fuel tank meant he could run it a long time without refueling, which could have been an issue as local gas pumps weren't working. We would bet that the truck also produces far fewer emissions than those outdoor generators, too.  All of these owners said they had purchased the hybrid with the upgraded 7.2-kW generator capability, though all hybrids come standard with 2.4-kW generator ability."   PLus: "Ford asks Texas dealers to loan out F-150s with ProPower onboard generators". And those with home storage such as Tesla Powerwalls and other brands have also found how invaluable home storage can me.   The Honda E has an 1.5kW AC socket to tap into it's 35.5kWh battery.   https://www.autoblog.com/2021/02/18/2022-ford-f150-powerboost-hybrid-generator-texas-winter-blackout/   https://www.f150gen14.com/forum/threads/powerboost-7-2kw-onboard-generator-saves-the-day-3-days-during-texas-power-outage.1826/   BENTLEY TO OFFER ONLY ELECTRIC OR HYBRID CARS BY 2026 "Electrification is becoming more commonplace within car manufacturers as we near the deadline for the UK government's ban on the sale of all petrol and diesel vehicles by 2030 - and Bentley is no exception." says Drivetribe: "The high-end automaker has this week announced that it is concentrating on researching and developing sustainable and recyclable electric motors, in a bid to assist the legislatorial requirement for automakers to cease production of petrol and diesel cars from 2030 in order to avoid any hefty fines coming their way. As it stands, Bentley are due to release PHEV versions of the much-loved Continental GT and the status symbol that is of course, the Flying Spur. We also continue to wait in anticipation of Bentley announcing it's first fully-electric model in 2025 - hopefully the EXP 100 GT will be looked back in history as something exemplar in having changed the course of the design for Bentley's future models."   https://drivetribe.com/p/bentley-to-offer-only-electric-eJUzXojwTUyEd-0xi4l8ag   https://www.bentley-press.be/bentley-sets-out-path-to-sustainable-recyclable-electric-motors     NEW QUESTION OF THE WEEK With my 1000th podcast around the corner, what kind of media coverage do you want in 2021?   Send me your answer: hello@evnewsdaily.com     You can listen to all 996 previous episodes of this this for free, where you get your podcasts from, plus the blog https://www.evnewsdaily.com/ – remember to subscribe, which means you don’t have to think about downloading the show each day, plus you get it first and free and automatically.   It would mean a lot if you could take 2mins to leave a quick review on whichever platform you download the podcast.   And  if you have an Amazon Echo, download our Alexa Skill, search for EV News Daily and add it as a flash briefing.   Come and say hi on Facebook, LinkedIn or Twitter just search EV News Daily, have a wonderful day, I’ll catch you tomorrow and remember…there’s no such thing as a self-charging hybrid.     PHIL ROBERTS / ELECTRIC FUTURE (PREMIUM PARTNER) BRAD CROSBY (PREMIUM PARTNER) PORSCHE OF THE VILLAGE CINCINNATI (PREMIUM PARTNER) AUDI CINCINNATI EAST (PREMIUM PARTNER) VOLVO CARS CINCINNATI EAST (PREMIUM PARTNER) NATIONALCARCHARGING.COM and ALOHACHARGE.COM  (PREMIUM PARTNER) DEREK REILLY FROM THE EV REVIEW IRELAND YOUTUBE CHANNEL (PREMIUM PARTNER) RICHARD AT RSEV.CO.UK – FOR BUYING AND SELLING EVS IN THE UK (PREMIUM PARTNER)   DAVID AND LISA ALLEN (PARTNER) GARETH HAMER (PARTNER) eMOBILITY NORWAY HTTPS://WWW.EMOBILITYNORWAY.COM/  (PARTNER) BOB BOOTHBY – MILLBROOK COTTAGES AND ELOPEMENT WEDDING VENUE (PARTNER) DARIN MCLESKEY FROM DENOVO REAL ESTATE (PARTNER) JUKKA KUKONEN FROM WWW.SHIFT2ELECTRIC.COM RAJEEV NARAYAN (PARTNER) IAIN SEAR (PARTNER)   ADRIAN BOND (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) ALAN SHEDD (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) ALEX BANAHENE (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) ALEXANDER FRANK @ https://www.youtube.com/c/alexsuniverse42 ANDERS HOVE (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) ANDREA JEFFERSON (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) ANDREW GREEN (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) ANDY NANCARROW AND LILIAN KASS (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) ASEER KHALID (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) BÅRD FJUKSTAD (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) BLUNDERBUSS JONES (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER BRIAN THOMPSON (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) BRUCE BOHANNAN (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) CHARLES HALL (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) CHRIS HOPKINS (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) CHRISTOPHER BARTH (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) COLIN HENNESSY AND CAMBSEV (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) CRAIG ROGERS (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) DAMIEN DAVIS (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) DAVID FINCH (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) DAVID MOORE (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) DAVID PARTINGTON (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) DAVID PRESCOTT (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) DON MCALLISTER / SCREENCASTSONLINE.COM (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) ED CORTREEN (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) ERIC HANSEN (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) ERU KYEYUNE-NYOMBI (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) FREDRIK ROVIK (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) GENE RUBIN (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) HEDLEY WRIGHT (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) HEINRICH LIESNER (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) IAN GRIFFITHS (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) IAN (WATTIE) WATKINS (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) JACK OAKLEY (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) JAMES STORR (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) JAVIER CARMELO DÍAZ PÉREZ (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) JIM MORRIS (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) JOHN SCHROEDER (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) JON AKA BEARDY MCBEARDFACE FROM KENT EVS (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) JON MANCHAK (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) JUAN GONZALEZ (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) KEVIN MEYERSON (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) LAURENCE D ALLEN (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) LEE BROWN (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) LUKE CULLEY (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) MARCEL WARD (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) MARTY YOUNG  (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) MIA OPPELSTRUP (PARTNER) MIKE WINTER (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) NATHAN GORE-BROWN (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) NATHANIEL FREEDMAN (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) NEIL E ROBERTS FROM SUSSEX EVS (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) OHAD ASTON (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) PAUL STEPHENSON (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) PETE GLASS (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) PETE GORTON (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) PETER & DEE ROBERTS FROM OXON EVS (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) PHIL MOUCHET (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) PHILIP TRAUTMAN (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) RAYMOND ROWLEDGE (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) RENE KEEMIK (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) RENÉ SCHNEIDER (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) ROB HERMANS (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) ROB FROM THE RSTHINKS EV CHANNEL ON YOUTUBE (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) ROBERT GRACE (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) RUPERT MITCHELL (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) SEIKI PAYNE (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) STEPHEN PENN (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) STEVE JOHN (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) THOMAS J. I'm a television producer. I came up in the world of Motorsports working for NASCAR and I was with them for about five years, three seasons on the road with the IMSA WeatherTech Sportscar Championship. I've got two sports Emmy wins for the 100,000 cameras documentary series. I like to cook I'm pretty good at barbecue. You know, maybe that's what you think is most interesting because you're not interested at all at cars, which would be ironic. 0:46 I went to the Goodwood Festival of Speed 2018. I went to rennsport with Porsche, Porsche and rennsport with Michelin and then also went to the mall with Michelin. And then I did a year of a show called THE TORQUE SHOW with Justin Bell and Tommy Kendall. 1:40 the number one thing right now is the documentary that we just put out. I produced my first feature length documentary last year, it was about cars and car culture, It's called BEST IN CLASS, the making of a concour d'Elegance. And it's available on any digital video or content rental platform, it's available for rent, I think it's 10 to buy it. It's a great story. 3:33 the audrain Automobile Museum in Newport, Rhode Island. (where film was made) 8:17 Speaking of millennials, I actually have a millennial anti theft device in my Honda Accord sport. yeah, I was in not just the French guy who raised Ricky Bobby. 9:03 I was wanting to be a chef owner. And I was working through the restaurant industry. 11:18 nobodies. In fact. I mean, there I worked for a chef in Orlando, that my paycheck stopped cashing. 14:44 Valencia Community College had an incredible film program, I had to make a reel to present as part of my application. 19:04 I had taken a job shooting nightclubs, I was shooting like family photos. I was shooting wedding videos, I stumbled upon the opportunity to do West Walker's wedding video and Aspen which was a felt like a really big deal at the time. And I mean, it's a celebrity thing, whatever it was, but it was still a wedding video. 26:09 You know, you've honored and mentioned your dad and mom a number of times in this video, which just makes me love you more. 26:57 I remember Ferrari and Range Rover and Land Rover and then Bentley you had that big release party with the Continental GT. So you were very much in the luxury and sports car game. What I do remember specifically is maybe like once a month or so here comes a Ferrari 360 Modena and Jeff's like, hey, let's go for a ride. 28:44 my mom and I came over to the dealership and you took us for a ride on the the Range Rover proving ground. 30:34 What are these Porsches? Oh, those are GT3 cup cars.... 31:06I Brett: "...I watch Formula One IndyCar NASCAR lower series, NASCAR dirt track modifieds. I go to my local short track here in Tampa, I really don't think that there's anything that beats the competition of sports car racing. So as a racing fan, and as a producer working on that series...you look at the Ferrari 488 GTLM car, the full factory spec racecar, and you go that is the sexiest thing I have ever seen. How do people not want to watch this? it's gonna go out and bang doors with a Porsche 911 RSR. 33:42 Jeff talks about NASCAR with the actual cars that you drove on Monday. 35:08 Jeff talks about selling "used" Ferraris into the Tampa Bay market that may have had an impact on Ferrari opening a dealrership there. 38:49 Brett: "...did a lot of work with Michelin... went to the Goodwood Festival of Speed... went to Rennsport with... Porsche and rennsport... LeMans with Michelin...I did a show called THE TORQUE SHOW with Justin Bell and Tommy Kendall 39:28 Brett goes into what goes into being a TV producer. 42:21 Brett talks about BEST IN CLASS and the concour world. 44:41 Brett talks about why people are into cars. 45:31 Brett on places/events like: Monterey, Big Sur,Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca, Audrain Museum. Casa Ferrari. Rennsport. LeMans, World Endurance Championship , NASCAR. 52:54 What's in Brett's garage? 55:00 regarding manual trannys 57:00 Brett on some new cars available now. 1:02:03 I've met a lot of people through the sport. Show #505   Good morning, good afternoon and good evening wherever you are in the world, welcome to EV News Daily for Wednesday 19th June 2019. It’s Martyn Lee here and I go through every EV story to save you time.   Thank you to MYEV.com for helping make this show, they’ve built the first marketplace specifically for Electric Vehicles. It’s a totally free marketplace that simplifies the buying and selling process, and help you learn about EVs along the way too.   Hello to another new PRODUCER CLINTON DESVEAUX! And new PRODUCER NEIL BUTLER   Clean Air Day with TryEV!   Tesla Day tomorrow!   WORLD'S FIRST HOMEMADE TESLA TRUCK "In a total boss move, Simone Giertz—who for a long time has wanted to own "an electric pickup truck, more specifically, a Tesla pickup,"—created her very own custom Tesla pickup, which she affectionately named "Truckla." says Popular Mechanics: "The project took a year of planning and required a complete teardown of the car's interior, including door panels and gaskets. Once that was done, the team moved on to frame modifications and used reciprocating saws and grinders to remove the Tesla's roof beams. Truckla's bed, for example, was originally the bed of a Ford F-150, while the rear window came from a GMC Canyon.   https://www.popularmechanics.com/cars/a28086506/homemade-tesla-truck-simone-giertz/   IRELAND TO BAN NEW PETROL AND DIESEL VEHICLES FROM 2030 "The Irish government plans to ban the sale of new petrol and diesel vehicles by 2030, as part of a major strategy to protect the environment." reports the BBC today: "The aim is to ensure that all new cars and vans on Irish roads in 11 years' time are electric vehicles. The proposed legislation was among 180 measures in the government's Climate Action Plan, published on Monday. The hope is that by the time the petrol and diesel vehicle ban is introduced in 2030 there will be 950,000 electric vehicles on Irish roads. The government is set to invest in a "nationwide" charging network to power the new vehicles. By 2025, at least one recharging point will be required at new non-residential buildings with more than 10 parking spaces."   https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-48668791   BENTLEY TO ELECTRIFY ALL MODELS BY 2023; EV COMING IN 2025 "according to a new report from Car and Driver, the company has a timeline for its electric plans with the company's first fully electric vehicle debuting in 2025." says Motor1.com: "Along with its first electric vehicle, Bentley plans to hybridize every model in its lineup – the Continental GT, Flying Spur, and Mulsanne. The company will likely use the same turbocharged 3.0-liter V6 in the Bentayga that's also rumored to power the Continental GT hybrid. Customers fearful a hybrid would neuter the brand need not worry. In the Bentayga, the gasoline-electric powertrain makes 443 horsepower (330 kilowatts) and 516 pound-feet (700 Newton-meters) of torque, propelling the hefty SUV to 62 miles per hour (100 kilometers per hour) in 5.5 seconds up to a top speed of 158 mph (254 kph). Plus, the added torque boost from the 17.3-kilowatt-hour lithium-ion battery will feel stupendous."   https://www.motor1.com/news/355621/bentley-electrify-models-2023-electric/   NIO BEGINS DELIVERIES OF NEW ES6 ELECTRIC CROSSOVER IN CHINA "Nio announced on Tuesday that the first ES6 electric crossovers have been delivered to their owners in Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou. It's the automaker's second mass-production model, following the larger ES8, but the company also has the EP9 electric hypercar in its portfolio, which is impressive in its own right." writes CNET: "With five seats onboard, the ES6 is smaller and shorter than the ES8, but its wheelbase is the same. Buyers have a choice of two powertrains: A pair of electric motors putting out 430 horsepower and 450 pound-feet of torque, or a beefier pair that puts out 536 hp and 535 lb-ft. Buyers can also choose between a 70-kilowatt-hour battery and an 84-kWh battery, the latter of which can reach up to 317 miles by NEDC estimates, which are usually higher than EPA estimates."   https://www.cnet.com/roadshow/news/nio-es6-electric-crossover-deliveries-china/   2020 PEUGEOT 2008 DEBUTS WITH BOLD SUV LOOKS AND AN EV OPTION "After a successful first generation, Peugeot's second-generation 2008 SUV breaks the code somewhat from the familiar formula, not the least of which is a fully electric e-2008 model we'll touch on later." according to Motor1: "The new electric Peugeot is visually the same as its internal-combustion-powered sibling, with the same interior space. In place of a fuel tank and engine, you'll find a single electric motor generating 136 horsepower (101 kilowatts) and 192 pound-feet (260 Newton-meters) of instant torque. It's driven by a rather modest 50 kWh battery, which Peugeot says is good for a range of approximately 193 miles (312 kilometers). Recharge times vary depending on the power source, but a 100kW terminal can recharge the e-2008 to 80 percent capacity in 30 minutes."   TESLA TO CHANGE DEFAULT MODEL 3 COLOR TO WHITE "Elon Musk has announced that Tesla will be switching the Model 3’s standard color from Solid Black to Simple White. After these changes are implemented, Musk noted that the Model 3’s black paint option would command a $1,000 price, similar to Midnight Metallic Silver." says Simon at Teslarati: "Utilizing a Simple White color for the Model 3’s standard paint option could play to the electric car maker’s advantages. While not as stunning as the Pearl White Multi-Coat, Simple White paint would likely attract attract far fewer scratches than the current standard Solid Black. This would likely make the Model 3 far easier to maintain, ultimately benefiting both the vehicle’s owners and Tesla itself."   https://www.teslarati.com/tesla-energy-reduces-residential-solar-costs-drops-us-rankings/   TESLA ARCADE IS HERE, LETTING YOU PLAY DRIVING SIMS WITH YOUR CAR'S STEERING WHEEL "Tesla has begin rolling out an update that will effectively turn its cars into a proper gaming platform. Tesla Arcade will make games powered by the Unreal and Unity engines playable on dashboards to keep you occupied when you're sitting around waiting for your car to charge" writes Tech Radar: "CEO Elon Musk teased Tesla Arcade at this year's E3 game show, revealing that Bethesda's Fallout Shelter would soon be available to play on dashboards, and for the official launch the company released a trailer demonstrating its first ported game, Beach Buggy 2."   https://www.techradar.com/news/tesla-arcade-is-here-letting-you-play-driving-sims-with-your-cars-steering-wheel   COMMUNITY And thanks to MYEV.com they’ve set us another Question Of The Week. Tuesday 27th March 2018. BEAUTIFUL BENTEY BATTERIES Bentleys led designer Stefan Sielaff recently told Auto express that “A full electric Bentley is something I am extremely convinced we have to do. It will happen not so far in the future”. For executives used to not saying anything because it’s all so competitive, we can take that as a ‘yes’ for something coming. This ties into what had previously been reported about possibly using the Mission E platform. Electric luxury cars make so much sense from the perspective of the driver in that they’re quiet and very fast. From an engineering perspective those large cars provide ample room for a 100 or 120kW battery for long ranges, plus a motor front and rear gives incredibly speed plus safety. And for a designer, an EV takes away all that engine and transmission from a luxury car which can be used for extra space. They can start with a blank sheet of paper to reimagine something fresh. Those luxury cars need to waft across long distances with 4 or 5 adults and all their luggage, and an electric drivetrain suits that perfectly. This is all part of a plan to bring a new type of customer to Bentley. Auto Express say: “The next-generation Continental GT will get a PHEV drivetrain, and the Crewe manufacturer plans to have its entire range electrified by 2025. Speculation at one time was that the EV could be called "Barnato," an homage to Joel Woolf "Babe" Barnato, one of the original Bentley Boys of the 1920s.” https://www.autoblog.com/2018/03/26/designer-full-electric-bentley   FANTASTIC FLEETS A new report from ALD Automotive shows nearly all company car journeys could be taken in an EV. ALDs telematics showed that 77% of fleet journeys were LESS than 1oo miles a day. They surveyed random company cars covering a total of 95,000 miles and 2,396 hours of total journey time. 52% of daily journeys were even below 50 miles a day. Only 12% of daily journeys were over 150 miles a day. Matt Dale, consultancy services manager for ALD Automotive said: ““Increasingly, we’re seeing the opportunity for fleets to employ a more holistic mobility strategy that looks beyond the traditional view of a single company car. For many journeys, public transport, car share, pool or hire cars are the more sensible option from both a cost and convenience perspective. On the few occasions where electric vehicles aren’t practical, drivers can supplement their travel with these more appropriate forms of transport. Fleets may well find that, due to the lower Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) implications of running Plug-in Hybrid (PHEVs) and BEVs, they can afford to facilitate other smart, mobility solutions and still save money.”   NICE ONE, NORWAY! A report on Electrive today shows that EV sales in Norway now to 5.1%, last year pure BEV’s were up over 40%, and there are 142,000 all electric cars and vans currently driving around Norway on lovely clean energy from all their renewables. Tesla have had a slow Jan and Feb in Norway but so far have delivered over 1,000 cars in Norway with another week of the month left. In the capital Oslo, for every 1000 cars you see, 37 are electric. https://fleetworld.co.uk/77-of-fleet-journeys-could-be-completed-by-evs/   JAGUAR HEADING TO N.Y.C. The New York International Motor Show is soon and a press release landed from Jaguar Land Rover. They’ll be at the show with the F-PACE, I-PACE and E-PACE compact performance SUV. Of their I-PACE they say: “The Jaguar I-PACE is the electric vehicle drivers have been waiting for. Clean, smart and safe, I-PACE delivers sustainable sports car performance, next-generation artificial intelligence (AI) technology and five-seat SUV practicality to place Jaguar at the forefront of the EV revolution. With a state-of-the-art 90kWh lithium-ion battery using 432 pouch cells, I-PACE delivers a range of up to 480km (WLTP cycle). Owners will be able to achieve a 0-80 per cent battery charge in 40 minutes using DC charging (150kW). From 2020 all new Jaguar Land Rover vehicles will be electrified, giving customers even more choice. A portfolio of electrified products will be introduced across the entire model range, embracing fully electric, plug-in hybrid and mild hybrid vehicles as well as continuing to offer ultra-clean petrol and diesel engines. https://www.automotiveworld.com/news-releases/three-new-jaguar-land-rover-vehicles-share-spotlight-new-york   WORKHORSE 100-MILE EV VANS Finally according to Clean Technica: “Workhorse* will introduce it N-Gen all electric van at the San Francisco City Hall on March 28. The battery electric N-Gen is an all-wheel drive delivery vehicle that features a low floor height and a tall roof for ease of access. N-Gen vans will be available in the San Francisco Bay area starting next month. The N-Gen van has a range of 100 miles. Workhorse has also developed large PHEV delivery vans for UPS and WB Mason that lower tailpipe emissions while offering lower fuel and maintenance costs.” Follow the link in the show notes to read more from Clean Technica. https://cleantechnica.com/2018/03/26/workhorse-will-unveil-n-gen-electric-van-san-francisco-march-28   I’d love to spread the word about electric cars so, if you can, share this somebody who might be interested. Official Website: http://www.lawabidingbiker.com Podcast-In this podcast we discuss Royal Enfield motorcycles and their place in the motorcycling industry. Is Royal Enfield an actual competitor to Harley-Davidson? Enfield has a largely negligible presence in the U.S., and its bikes typically have small engines compared to the big bore bikes Harley produces.  SUPPORT US AND SHOP IN THE OFFICIAL LAW ABIDING BIKER STORE! In late 2017, Royal Enfield introduced in India its first big twin-engine motorcycle. They introduced the interceptor INT 650 and the Continental GT 650, bikes that will compete head-to-head with Harley's Street 750. India only accounts for around 2% of Harley-Davidson's total sales, but it owns 60% of the big bike market there and a local player with a vastly larger distribution network could certainly create problems. CHECK OUT OUR HUNDREDS OF FREE HELPFUL VIDEOS ON OUR YOUTUBE CHANNEL AND SUBSCRIBE! Royal Enfield is very popular and vastly outsells Harley-Davidson. However, Royal Enfield may be trying to get a bigger piece of the pie in the U.S. market. In the United States, Harley-Davidson has around 700 dealerships and Enfield only has just a few dozen in the U.S. and Canada. That said, Enfield's bikes could strike a chord with the emerging domestic motorcycle buyer. Where are they headed to and is there any end in sight to their moto adventure? And on the heels of the grand opening of the Royal Enfield North America headquarters and first flagship showroom opening, Jim had the opportunity to discuss the future of the Royal Enfield motorcycle with Siddartha Lal, CEO of Royal Enfield and Rod Copes, President of Royal Enfield North America. North America is key to the contribution of that global growth.” Royal Enfield North America will be continuing the brand’s storied history with the unveiling of its North American model lineup, featuring single-cylinder engines currently up to 535 cc.
