He lives in New York City and you may visit him at www.nelsonaspen.com. Award-winning journalist and author Nelson Aspen announces the release of his new historical fantasy, "Kindred Spirits: A Titanic Tale" (March 18, 2025 / $15.99). Inspired by his own metaphysical connections to a lost TITANIC passenger, Aspen will celebrate the publication as part of the 113th anniversary commemoration during "Titanic Weekend," aboard the world famous RMS Queen Mary in Long Beach, California (April 12 - 14). Author, Nelson Aspen, will be joined by other Titanic authors, historians, experts and collectors. Nelson's TITANIC knowledge has made him a sought after speaker on the subject for TV, radio, print and online outlets. As a showbiz presenter in addition to his Titanic expertise, Nelson is often engaged for commentary & analysis on any aspect of Titanic-mania and will be a special guest speaker on January's maiden voyage of Cunard's most anticipated new luxury liner, QUEEN ANNE. Inspired by the author's personal experiences, "Kindred Spirits: A Titanic Tale" spans time between the night in 1912 when Titanic met her tragic fate and the hedonistic party scene of modern Manhattan. This is a story of love and redemption denied to gay men by the constraints of the Edwardian world into which they were born. From rubbing elbows with the "Unsinkable" Molly Brown, John Jacob Astor and other iconic figures from the so-called Ship of Dreams to metropolitan globe-trotting in an effort to unravel the mystery of their metaphysical connection, our two heroes are Kindred Spirits. The titan of the sea, the great unsinkable ship that sank – over a century later, the mystery of the Titanic is still being studied to this day. Only a third of the ship's passengers survived, while over 1,500 lost their lives. But out of all those casualties, only 340 bodies were recovered. So, the question remains: what happened to the remaining 1,160? Other videos you might like: Scientists Have Found The Titanic Will Disappear Soon • Scientists Have Found The Titanic Wil... There were only 20, and they needed 60 to be able to carry everybody on board to safety. Perhaps those poor souls could've been rescued from the bone-chilling waters a lot sooner if the closest ships passing by the Titanic's crash site had seen the flairs and other distress signals being sent. The ship was also moving much faster than the speed it was built for. The reason for this was that the ship's owner, White Star Line, didn't want to fall behind schedule. Only hours after the Titanic sank, a massive storm came over the ocean. The currents and winds would've swept many bodies up to 50 miles away from the crash site. Of course, there were those victims that went down with the ship, and they had no chance of being retrieved. As for the bodies that were recovered, some were given a proper burial at sea if there wasn't room for them on the rescue ship. The brave and selfless woman earned herself the nickname “The Unsinkable Molly Brown,” and after the ship went down, she tried her best to get as many passengers as she could into the lifeboats. There was also author, journalist, and teacher, Lawrence Beesley. He later wrote a book that brought him a lot of success called The Loss of the SS Titanic. Another survivor was Violet Constance Jessop, who was a stewardess on the ship. Jessop hadn't planned to work on the Titanic until her friends convinced her to apply for the job. Dorothy Gibson, a beautiful American singer, model, and silent film actress was also a survivor of the Titanic. Gibson was one of the richer and more famous aboard the ship. A movie about a woman who survived the Titanic ... that will not mention the Titanic for nearly two hours! A biography of one of the most fascinating people of the 20th century ... that will ignore everything that actually happened in her life! But hey, how about those six or seven songs? THE UNSINKABLE MOLLY BROWN was a big hit, and we don't know why. This week's recommendations: Kahmeela is firmly on board with A QUIET PLACE DAY ONE, Sean likes DEADPOOL & WOLVERINE and Robin is spending time with Rock Hudson.

We're taking a little journey on a little boat named the Titanic, and joining us on this expedition is Walt Hickey! After hearing about Walt's new book, You Are What You Watch, we talk about non-cars that matter to him (cinematic and otherwise) before reading some truly pathetic crazy credits (and being reminded about IMDb's humble origins). Joey recounts the tale of PCP in this film production's clam chowder, we all remember watching this movie on VHS, and we talk about how young is too young to watch Titanic. We discuss James Cameron's ability to make you forget this is all taking place on a boat, the flair (or lack thereof) of the title card, and how good Kathy Bates is as the Unsinkable Molly Brown. Walt praises James Cameron for his subtle ability to state the movie's theme and offers up a nice new definition of what makes a vehicle. We talk about “the Celine Dion of it all,” Cameron's ability to articulate the geography of the Titanic, and the meaning / interpretation of the ending. We watch the shockingly terrible (!) trailer for Titanic. Email us: family@cageclub.me Visit our Patreon page at patreon.com/2fast2forever. Show your support at the 2 Fast 2 Forever shop! Margaret Brown (1867-1932), now known as "the Unsinkable Molly Brown," was a socialite who survived the sinking of the Titanic and desperately tried to convince her fellow lifeboat passengers to return to the debris and search for survivors. This month, we're talking about Folk Heroes. People whose lives and stories took on mythic proportions. History classes can get a bad rap, and sometimes for good reason. SynopsisThe composer of this familiar theme was born on today's date in 1904 in Lyon, France. He was christened “Noel” Arnaud, but is better known as “Leo” Arnaud, the name he adopted after emigrating to the U.S.A. Arnaud studied music in his native France with two of its leading composers, Vincent d'Indy and Maurice Ravel. In the 1930s, Arnaud settled in Hollywood, where he churned out scores for everything from Blondie Goes Latin to The Ice Follies of 1939. The high point of Arnaud's cinematic career was an Oscar nomination for his work as an arranger for the 1964 musical The Unsinkable Molly Brown. Some years earlier, Hollywood Bowl conductor Felix Slatkin commissioned Arnaud to write some music for a 1958 LP sonic spectacular designed to show off the new “stereophonic” recording process. The album was titled Charge! and featured military style fanfares and suites, and included a cut entitled Bugler's Dream. In 1968, when ABC television was looking for a musical theme for its Olympic coverage, they chose Bugler's Holiday. By 1988, when the NBC network secured TV rights for the Olympics, Arnaud's theme had become the instantly recognizable signature theme for the games. The Titanic was infamously touted as the “unsinkable” ship, a title that unfortunately came to be bitterly ironic. But in the wake of its sinking, that title came to be associated not with the ship itself, but with one of its most famous passengers: The Unsinkable Molly Brown. And Molly Brown was just one of the passengers on the Titanic who proved, in the face of unimaginable dread, to be a hero – a designation she shares with people like second officer Charles Lightoller, first-class passenger Noël Leslie, head chef Charles Joughin, first-class passenger Colonel Archibald Gracie IV, head engineer Joseph Bell, telegraphist Jack Phillips, first-class passenger Lucille Carter, and even the members of the Titanic's band, who famously played on till the bitter end. Today, we'll be taking a closer look at their stories and the moments of unfathomable bravery that unfolded in the ship's final, harrowing hours. https://allthatsinteresting.com/rms-titanic credits: https://allthatsinteresting.com/podcast-credits Thanks HelloFresh! From creating a one-woman show, "Beth Malone: So Far" to originating the role of "Fun Home's" Alison Bechdel, Tony and Grammy award nominee Beth Malone has set a name for herself on the Broadway stage. Beth takes us through her journey to getting into performing and becoming an actress, sharing her younger years which included watching “Singing in the Rain on TV” and working at a dinner theatre growing up Colorado. Growing up queer, she opens up about her relationship with her parents, getting disowned in her 20s and focusing on art as a way to cope, meeting her wife and getting her master's degree and finally reconnecting with her parents. Beth's experiences have inspired her to take her art into activism, and she continues to stay active in the space and raise awareness through her solo shows. She recalls how "Fun Home" has become a form of therapy for people, some of which would talk to actors and share their stories at the stage door. In fact, they would say that the stage door was act two of the show. Apart from raising awareness, she talks about her work, including recording the cast album of "The Unsinkable Molly Brown" during the pandemic, and her current and upcoming shows like "City On Fire". Despite not being on stage as much as she used to, Beth shares her love for rehearsals which is also what she misses the most, writing a musical, and being motivated by hope in whatever she does. Beth Malone is a singer and actress known for her work in Broadway, off-Broadway and regional theatre. She originated the role of Alison Bechdel in the musical "Fun Home", for which she received a nomination for the Tony Award for Best Actress in a Musical for her performance. Her other stage credits include "The Unsinkable Molly Brown" where she played multiple roles and now has an official cast album, "Pride Plays", "Nassim", "Angels in America", and "Ring of Fire" among others. She has also created a cabaret show, "Beth Malone: So Far" which tells her life story. Beth has also appeared in numerous films like "Tick, Tick...Boom!", "The God Committee", "Brittany Runs a Marathon", "The Comedian", "Hick", and TV shows such as "BrainDead", "Rono 911!", "Judging Amy", "Bull", "The Baker and the Beauty", and "All Rise". She released her first solo album, "Lunch Shift" in 2008. Beth stars as Linda Schafer in "Five Days at Memorial" and will be in Apple TV's "City on Fire" in 2023. Mike Isaacson, Currently in his ninth season and only the third person to hold this position in The Muny's 103-year history. To date, he has produced 56 Muny shows, 23 of which had never been on the Muny stage before. He has collaborated at The Muny with many Tony award winners and breakthrough talents, including Christian Borle, Colin Donnell, Marcia Milgrom Dodge, Gary Griffin, Heather Headley, Jennifer Holliday, Denis Jones, Laura Michelle Kelly, Dan Knecht- ges, Beth Leavel, Norm Lewis, Beth Malone, Kathleen Marshall, Patti Murin, Josh Rhodes, Emily Skinner and Ken Page. The Riverfront Times wrote, “Under the leadership of executive producer Mike Isaacson, the quality of Muny productions rose like the proverbial phoenix.” The St. Louis Post-Dispatch named him “Theatre Artist of the Year,” noting that by “staging one impressive production after another, he made The Muny simultaneously hip and – be- lieve it – important to our community.” During Isaacson's tenure, The Muny has produced new developmental productions of Irving Berlin's Holiday Inn, Lerner and Loewe's Paint Your Wagon and The Unsinkable Molly Brown. During its record-breaking 100th season, The Muny became the first theatre in the world to produce the legendary Jerome Robbins' Broadway, doing unprecedented archival work on both the artistic and business side. During that same season, The Muny produced the U.S. regional premiere of Jersey Boys. Isaacson has changed the look and feel of a Muny production, overseeing a transformation in every aspect of pro- duction that culminated in 2019 with the arrival of the theatre's extraordinary James S. Mc- Donnell stage, a state-of-the art stage house that includes revolutionary LED technology, automated sets and a host of other innovations. During the summer of 2020, when The Muny was closed due to COVID-19, Mike produced and created The Muny 2020 Variety Hour Live!, an online show that reached more than a worldwide audience of over 400,000. With Kristin Caskey, Isaacson has produced more than 23 Broadway musicals and plays, national tours, off-Broadway and London productions. All told, his productions have received more than 122 Tony nominations and 34 Tony Awards. Last year, he produced the highly ac- claimed David Byrne's American Utopia, which made every major “Top 10” list, and became a highly acclaimed film by Spike Lee on HBO, for which he also served as an executive produc- er. Just as the COVID-19 shutdown of Broadway began, he was awaiting the first preview of Neil Simon's Plaza Suite, starring Mathew Broderick and Sarah Jessica Parker. Also, during the shutdown, Isaacson served as a supporting producer of the acclaimed re- vival of The Unsinkable Molly Brown at New York's Transport Group. Other career highlights include: Fun Home (2015 Tony Award, Best Musical; 2018 Olivier nominee for Best Musical), Legally Blonde the Musical (2011 Olivier Award, Best Musical), Thoroughly Modern Millie (2002 Tony Award, Best Musical), Red (2010 Tony Award, Best Play), The Humans (2016 Tony Award, Best Play), If/Then, starring Idina Menzel, Lanford Wilson's Burn This, starring Adam Driver and Kerri Russell (2019 Tony nomination for Best Revival of a Play), Bring It On: The Musical (2013 Tony nomination for Best Musical), A Doll's House 2 (2017 Tony nomination for Best Play), You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown (1999 Tony nomination for Best Revival of a Musical), The Seagull, starring Kristin Scott Thomas, Carey Mulligan and Peter Sarsgaard, Caroline, or Change (Tony nomination for Best Musical); One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest (2001 Tony Award, Best Revival of a Play) and Death of a Salesman (1999 Tony Award, Best Revival of a Play). For the Independent Presenters Network, Isaacson served as producer for Spamalot (2005 Tony Award, Best Musical), Ragtime (revival) and The Color Purple (2006 Tony nomination for Best Musical). He has received the St. Louis Arts and Education Council's Award for Excellence in the Arts and has been awarded The Broadway League's and Theatre Development Fund's Commercial Theater Institute “Robert Whitehead” Award for excellence in producing. He has served on the board of governors and executive committee of The Broadway League and received the Samuel J. L'Hommedieu Award. He has also received the Equality Award from the St. Louis Chapter of Human Rights Campaign.

Join me as I knock down with gusto some of the long-standing myths about Denver socialite/activist/philanthropist Margaret Brown (decidedly not Molly!), one of Titanic's most famed passengers. Health experts for years have been saying that mental health treatment should be provided alongside traditional medical care. Finally, some of Colorado's largest hospital systems are embracing that integrated approach to wellness. Kaiser Permanente is likely the first in Colorado to intertwine medical and mental health care, staffing more offices with behavioral health specialists. And UC Heath is spending $100 million on behavioral health services. Colorado Sun reporter Jen Brown looked into the alignment of medical and mental health at two of the state's top healthcare providers. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

The Molly Brown House Museum stands as an enduring symbol of the turn of the 20th century in Denver. In the 1880s, the fortunate few who made millions in the mountains, the railroads, or trade moved to the prestigious Capitol Hill neighborhood. This included Isaac and Mary Large who made their fortune in silver mining and built the house at 1340 Pennsylvania Avenue. They commissioned the well-known architect William Lang who combined the styles of Classic Queen Anne and Richardsonian Romanesque to create a unique and eclectic home. The home contained all the modern technology of the day including electricity, indoor plumbing, heat, and telephone. www.mollybrown.orghttp://www.yourlotandparcel.org

What you are about to hear is the second half of my recent conversation with Dominick McHugh author of: The Big Parade – Meredith Wilson's Musicals From The Music Man to 1491. In part one Dominic shared the amazing insights and discoveries that he made during his research into the development of Wilson's first and most famous musical, The Music Man. If you missed that episode you may want to catch up with that one before listening to this one. Today we discuss Willson's two follow up hits -- The Unsinkable Molly Brown and Here's Love -- and his heartbreaking failure, 1491. And, of course, there is even more discussion of The Music Man, more comparing and contrasting it with West Side Story, as well as comparing the careers and output of Meredith Willson and Leonard Bernstein, some of which may send some hardline Bernstein fans into a tizzy! Dominic and I even get into a bit of a disagreement about the when The Golden Age Of Broadway actually ended. I think you will enjoy it! Just one note before we begin: Meredith Wilson is one of the major exceptions to the central premise of this podcast. He was not Jewish, Queer, black or an immigrant or child of an immigrant. No, along with George Abbott, Bob Fosse and just a small handful of other key inventors of the Broadway musical, he is one of the exceptions that proves the rule. Enjoy!
