The tremendous Amy Seeley is back and this time the subject is right in her wheelhouse: COMEDY. We talk the legendary work of the absurdly brilliant Monty Python, whose "Flying Circus" and subsequent movies dominated the 70s. We talk our favorite performers, favorite sketches, favorite lines, and favorite movies. We also get into a discussion of their influence, and talk a bit about comedy in general. It's a most excellent 90 minutes, so strap in for something completely different! TUNE IN!

Laugh Tracks Legends of Comedy with Randy and Steve

This time out we have a real treat from across the pond. Neil Innes may not be the most recognizable name in comedy, but without him the Monty Python movies would be much the poorer (and we wouldn't have a Bonzo Dog Doo Dah Band at all). Coming up as part of the British satire boom of the early 1960s, Neil was an artist and musician with a flair for the absurd. That certainly came to the fore in the Bonzos, where Neil often sang lead and wrote their biggest hit. He soon crossed paths with the Pythons who used his music in Monty Python and the Holy Grail (among others), and he later collaborated with Eric Idle on the faux-Beatles parody, The Rutles. An all-around good bloke, Neil remained a well-loved fixture in British comedy, including Bonzos and Rutles reunions, for the rest of his life. As always, find extra clips below and thanks for sharing our shows! Want more Neil? Neil was a key member of the dada-influenced rockers The Bonzo Dog Doo Dah Band. He wrote and sang lead on their biggest hit -- I'm The Urban Spaceman. https://youtu.be/olGXtohOs7c?si=C-yLWjWHi27hxE_u Monty Python and the Holy Grail is beloved by fans and the clever tunes by Neil are part of the reason why. Here Neil foretells the fate of his boss, the very very brave Sir Robin. https://youtu.be/ACajzIlzvH0?si=ZdJZ8X2TpQzpP1M George Harrison was a great patron of the Pythons and was always ready to take a piss out of his old band. This clip from Eric Idle's Rutland Weekend Television finds George in fine voice singing . . .what?https://youtu.be/zJFLiW10ZrE?si=MOI5msq9MPQUaHHp

New Hampshire Unscripted talks with the performance arts movers and shakers

Franklin Footlight Theatre showed up to chat about their upcoming production of SPAMALOT. We had actors, an assistant director, a choreographer, one person just hanging out and taking pictures (I'm looking at you Olivia Martenson!). And talked about classic Monty Python gags, laughs, audience expectations, crappy accents (except my Inspector Clouseau French one was spot on), and thanks to Hayley de Sousa we even (gingerly) threw in some info on their NEXT show TWISTED. SPAMALOT has all of the characters that you would expect including King Arthur, Lancelot (the homicidally brave), Lady of the Lake (complete with Laker Girls), Sir Robin (the Not-Quite-So-Brave-as-Sir-Lancelot), Sir Galahad, Sir Bedevere, Patsy, Prince Herbert, Concorde and many more. I'm breakin' a sweat just typing it all!! Show dates and tickets: Aug 1-4 at the Hamilton Hall, Tilton School.

SPAMALOT is a Camelot spoof and is absolutely hilarious for those that don't know and we talked about it all. The show is filled with classic MP gags and routines and we discussed as much of them as we could. There was even an accent challenge at one point with yours truly failing miserably! The show has all of the characters that you would expect including King Arthur, Lancelot (the homicidally brave), Lady of the Lake (complete with Laker Girls), Sir Robin (the Not-Quite-So-Brave-as-Sir-Lancelot), Sir Galahad, Sir Bedevere, Patsy, Prince Herbert, Concorde and many more. In AD 932, King Arthur and his squire, Patsy, travel Britain searching for men to join the Knights of the Round Table. Along the way, Arthur debates whether swallows could carry coconuts, passes through a town infected with the plague, recounts receiving Excalibur from the Lady of the Lake to two anarcho-syndicalist peasants, defeats the Black Knight, and observes an impromptu witch trial. He recruits Sir Bedevere the Wise, Sir Lancelot the Brave, Sir Galahad the Pure, Sir Robin the Not-Quite-So-Brave-as-Sir-Lancelot, and the aptly named Sir Not-Appearing-in-this-Film, along with their squires and Robin's minstrels. Arthur leads the knights to Camelot, but, after a musical number, changes his mind, deeming it "a silly place". As they turn away, God appears and orders Arthur to find the Holy Grail. Arthur and his knights arrive at a castle occupied by French soldiers, who claim to have the Grail and taunt the Britons, driving them back with a barrage of barnyard animals. Bedevere concocts a plan to sneak in using a Trojan Rabbit, but forgets to tell the others to hide inside it; the Knights are forced to flee when it is flung back at them. Arthur decides the knights should go their separate ways to search for the Grail. A modern-day historian filming a documentary on the Arthurian legends is killed by an unknown knight on horseback, triggering a police investigation. Arthur and Bedevere are given directions by an old man and attempt to satisfy the strange requests of the dreaded Knights Who Say "Ni!". Sir Robin avoids a fight with a Three-Headed Knight by running away while the heads are arguing among themselves. Sir Galahad is led by a grail-shaped beacon to Castle Anthrax, which is occupied exclusively by young women, who wish to be punished for misleading him, but he is unwillingly "rescued" by Lancelot. Lancelot receives an arrow-shot note from Swamp Castle. Believing the note is from a lady being forced to marry against her will, he storms the castle and slaughters several members of the wedding party, only to discover the note is from an effeminate prince. Arthur and his knights regroup and are joined by Brother Maynard, his monk brethren, and three new knights: Bors, Gawain and Ector. They meet Tim the Enchanter, who directs them to a cave where the location of the Grail is said to be written. The entrance to the cave is guarded by the Rabbit of Caerbannog. Underestimating it, the knights attack, but the Rabbit easily kills Bors, Gawain and Ector. Arthur uses the "Holy Hand Grenade of Antioch", provided by Brother Maynard, to destroy the creature. Inside the cave, they find an inscription from Joseph of Arimathea, directing them to Castle Aarrgh. A cave monster devours Brother Maynard, but Arthur and the knights escape after the animator unexpectedly suffers a fatal heart attack. The knights approach the Bridge of Death, where the bridge-keeper demands they answer three questions in order to pass or else be cast into the Gorge of Eternal Peril. Lancelot easily answers simple questions and crosses. An overly cocky Robin is defeated by an unexpectedly difficult question, and an indecisive Galahad fails an easy one; both are magically flung into the gorge. When Arthur asks for clarification on a question regarding the airspeed of an unladen swallow, the bridge-keeper cannot answer and is himself thrown into the gorge. Arthur and Bedevere cannot find Lancelot, unaware that he has been arrested by police investigating the historian's death. The pair reach Castle Aarrgh, but find it occupied by the French soldiers from earlier in the film. After being repelled by showers of manure, they summon an army of knights and prepare to assault the castle. As the army charges, the police arrive, arrest Arthur and Bedevere for the murder of the historian and break the camera, abruptly ending the film

Sir Robin Millar is also a highly successful businessman, and he is the Chair of Scope UK, the national charity representing the 16 million disabled people in the UK.The conversation jumps straight into the deep end of things with the problems of cancel culture and the issues caused when people in business, and life, hold grudges against you. They then explore the significance of Robin having a West Indian mother and how this impacted his outlook and life experiences. They then discuss the painful subject of Robin's blindness and the difference between being born blind and developing blindness like Robin did. Chris then asks about the formative years of his career that led him to the vast success he has enjoyed for several decades, including his breakthrough in getting a job at the Château d'Hérouville recording studio in the Northwest of Paris. Robin tells his story of Sade. Producing on Diamond Life with her was what took Robin from being a successful producer to the stratosphere of being sought after around the globe. This then opens up a fascinating discussion about the two-tone music of the late 70s/early 80s that Chris Wright was instrumental in reviving, having signed record deals with bands like the Specials (famous for the song ‘Ghost Town' among many others). They return to Sade where Robin explains how she became a hit in America and then what it entails for an artist and their records to become mega-famous. They finally talk in-depth about the business of music including the ins and outs of their business partnership at Chrysalis and a possible new venture together! Along the way, Arthur debates whether swallows could carry coconuts, passes through a town infected with the Black Death, recounts receiving Excalibur from the Lady of the Lake to two anarcho-syndicalist peasants, defeats the Black Knight and observes an impromptu witch trial. He recruits Sir Bedevere the Wise, Sir Lancelot the Brave, Sir Galahad the Pure, and Sir Robin the Not-Quite-So-Brave-as-Sir-Lancelot, along with their squires and Robin's minstrels. Bedevere concocts a plan to sneak in using a Trojan Rabbit, but no one hides inside it, and the Britons are forced to flee when it is flung back at them. Arthur decides the knights should go their separate ways to search for the Grail.A modern-day historian filming a documentary on the Arthurian legends is killed by an unknown knight on horseback, triggering a police investigation. Arthur and Bedevere are given directions by an old man and attempt to satisfy the strange requests of the dreaded Knights Who Say "Ni!" Sir Robin avoids a fight with a Three-Headed Knight by running away while the heads are arguing amongst themselves. Arthur and his knights regroup and are joined by three new knights, as well as Brother Maynard and his monk brethren. An animated cave monster devours Brother Maynard, but Arthur and the knights escape after the animator unexpectedly suffers a fatal heart attack. The knights approach the Bridge of Death, where the bridge-keeper demands they answer three questions in order to pass or else be cast into the Gorge of Eternal Peril. Lancelot easily answers simple questions and crosses. Robin is defeated by an unexpectedly difficult question, and Galahad fails an easy one; both are magically flung into the gorge. When Arthur asks for clarification on an obscure question about swallows, the bridge-keeper cannot answer and is himself thrown into the gorge. Arthur and Bedevere cannot find Lancelot, unaware that he has been arrested by police investigating the historian's death. The pair reach Castle Aarrgh, but find it occupied by the French soldiers. After being repelled by showers of manure, they summon an army of knights and prepare to assault the castle. As the army charges, the police arrive, arrest Arthur and Bedevere for the murder of the historian and break the camera, ending the film.  TOP 51: Done on an incredibly small budget, the Pythons found funding from an unlikely sources—rock bands. Groups like Led Zeppelin, Jethro Tull, and Pink Floyd helped get the money up for the production, with a portion of the funds coming from the Floyd's album “The Dark Side of the Moon.” This is a trend that would continue later with The Life of Brian, when a large portion of the funding came from former Beatle George Harrison. When Harrison was asked why he funded the film, he responded “Because I wanted to see it.” 2: The film also represents the directorial debuts of both Terry Jones and Terry Gilliam, who decided that anyone named Terry got to direct the Pythons' first film. Attempting to co-direct at the same time led to conflicts, so the Terrys split up the responsibilities with Jones handling the actors while Gilliam worked on the cinematography. They'd go on to direct the remaining Python films together and Jones would additionally direct Mr. Toad's Wild Ride, while Gilliam's lengthy directorial career would include such artistic classics as The Fisher King, Brazil, Time Bandits, Twelve Monkeys, Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, The Imaginarium of Dr. Parnassus, and more. 3: The vicious Killer Rabbit of Caerbannog had parts of its fur dyed red to represent the blood of the knights that it spilt with its large, pointy teeth. Unfortunately, the dye used wouldn't wash out afterwards and the rabbit's owner was furious. 4: By the time the Pythons actually got around to doing the credits, they'd run out of money. As a result, the credits were very simple and Palin decided to spice them up a bit by adding the Swedish subtitles and llama references. When the film was shown for the first time at Cannes, firemen rushed in at the end of the credits to evacuate the audience due to a bomb scare. The crowd didn't leave at first because they thought it was part of the show. 5: n part due to the low budget, Chapman and Cleese did all their own stunts for the Black Knight scene. The two used heavy swords and some acrobatics for added realism. Connie Booth had brought her and Cleese's young daughter to the filming, who during the fight turned to her mum and said “Daddy doesn't like that man, does he?” **TRIPLE LINDY AWARD** **REVIEW AND RATING**TreyChrisStephen 1.5Tucker 3 TOP 5Stephen:1 Breakfast club2 Saving Private Ryan3 Ghostbusters4 Sandlot5 Color out of space Chris:1. sandlots2. vol. 2 episode 12Greetings,Well, it's “No Poop July” apparently. And while that headline and the subsequent story managed to turn Elisabeth and me into a couple of giggling frat boys for a moment in this episode, there are some more sobering considerations this headline points to, which we are sure to explain.Stories of stuckness are exactly the kind of “news” we'd expect during a certain astronomical-astrological cycle, namely, Mars in Taurus (sign of the bull). That's important because it's evidence of how we experience cycles within cycles in our lives every minute of every day, and those cycles and their unique kinds of energy are indeed predictable. It's no different than meteorology. Think of us as your astro-weatherwomen.The value of being able to predict these cycles is that when you can anticipate what is coming, you can leverage the energy. You can protect yourself. You can stay calm and centered, and you can find your power within. You can decide when to act, and you can do so powerfully.Conversely, the way the network news functions is to cause you to feel alarm, to stay focused on what they are saying, how they are interpreting the news for you, which is to say, you are giving your power away to them because you are paying them with your attention. What do you get in return for your investment? For me, the dividends were zip, nada, zilch. However, I came to see that the pay-off for the networks was, shall we say, astronomical.Letting infotainers and newscasters tell me what to experience, I found, was disempowering. Besides allowing my mind to be colonized by whomever was funding the particular broadcast, I found it sucked my attention out and up, toward whatever they were telling me was important to focus on. It's subtle, but it's like being led around on a leash. And while advertisers make themselves obvious, there are always secret shareholders behind the scenes whose motivations I might not ever know unless I invest still more time finding out; at that point, I just figure it's better to take my time and attention and place it somewhere else. Like — how can I empower my community? How can I be effective at applying my value system that is transparent and easily interrogated by anyone who wants to see what I am doing? What can I achieve by aligning with others who are similarly engaged, finding solutions and resolutions to what actually is happening around us, and that we can see and feel and experience?I am certain Elisabeth agrees with this, and that many of you understand what I am talking about, too. Here's a powerful example of what it's like have your mind colonized. Elisabeth sent it to me after we wrapped episode 11, where I talked about the power of story:This clip makes me both sad and angry. This woman is clearly scared. I get a pit in my stomach watching it. But why is she scared? Because the infotainer she has chosen to pay her attention to is making her scared and then telling her that if she keeps paying him attention, he and others like him will make her safe. She's been told a story by an extremely artful storyteller, who has succeeded in cultivating this woman's identity and allegiance. He has colonized her mind. That's not being centered, that's being suckered. That's awful. She is an unwitting victim, and that is an outrage. This clip underscores why in every episode of Off the Charts, we emphasize that we are offering you ways to reconsider how you trade in information. We might not explicitly call it out and say, “Here's the checklist you need to quit the news media!”, but I am not sure if that's helpful. Maybe it is, but I suspect the more authentic way to work with our podcasts is to just listen and then think about how you experience the world once you've taken in what we have to say, versus how you experience the world after you listen to the news networks, or anyone else who says, “This is what is happening, this is what is true”.For me, if I consume network infotainment without doing so consciously and without purpose, I find that I feel hollow and disturbed. It's akin to eating lots of crap food. It makes me feel off-center, buzzy, bloated, off-kilter. It's harder to be centered in that condition. And it is from a still and quiet center, a little bit of a void, that we find our power. That hollowness of inattention to ourselves, but attention to whatever the media says we need to focus on, can then return to us as potential. Hollowness or potential. They're both voids, but one is sucking you away from yourself, the other is pulling you in. Which would you prefer to be in communion with? Choosing our own adventure. This is the realm of mature souls. And I am invested in the potential of that more than I will ever be in the hollow gains of being cultivated by someone else. Also in this episode…Okay, now that my indignation has been made clear, let me share with you what other fun things are in this episode. Naturally, Elisabeth bursts into song. This time it's “War is a Science” from the musical Pippin, plus a little nod to the brave Sir Robin from Monty Python and the Holy Grail because you know, it fits our discussion of the manly man Senator from Missouri, Josh Hawley.Plus, lots of discussion about what Mars in Taurus will mean on Monday, August 1st as it meets up with Uranus and the North Node. Think “big, explosive, potentially violent, but also potentially liberating,” among other possibilities. And! We begin taking listener questions! Thank you to all of you who sent in your questions and musings. We begin with one from avid listener “Frank” who wants to know how the US Pluto return is being experienced by the various generations. We love our patrons!!!Thank you to all of those listeners who have become material supporters of OTC. We have now begun talks with hiring a production coach, and we are shopping for new equipment. YOU made that possible. And we are starting to keep a rapidly expanding library of goodies just for you, such as interesting outtakes from EG's and my conversations about the philosophy of astrology among other bits and bobs. There's one I especially like — a deep conversation we had in the making of this episode but couldn't figure where to place it. It's on how the evolution of the Placidian house system was the natural response to how Christianity had disrupted the holistic nature of pantheism that I believe is reflected in the Hellenistic house system. That hasn't been posted in our premium content library yet, but it will be soon. And finally… a little survey:Please let us know, because it will help us streamline our production process. If the majority of you don't really refer to the charts, we will not bother you with them, and will probably just put them in the paid content library as reference material. Thanks for your time and attention. We do not take it for granted. One last thing, please tap the little “love” button at the top of this post, leave your comments in the comments section by using the little “comment” icon, and please share this podcast with others you think will benefit from it, or at least find it pleasingly provocative. What is the relationship of cannabis/ marijuana with psychosis and schizophrenia? Learn from the father of schizophrenia research, Professor Sir Robin Murray. Sir Robin Murray, FMedSci FRS Professor Sir Robin Murray is a Professor of Psychiatric Research at the Institute of Psychiatry (IoP), King's College London and a Fellow of the Royal Society. He is ranked as one of the most influential researchers in psychiatry by Thomson Reuters’ Science Watch and 3rd in schizophrenia research. He is one of only 5 psychiatrists ever elected as Royal Society Fellows. In 2011, he was awarded a Knighthood for services to medicine. He has won most of the major prizes in psychiatry and has been honored with awards from countries throughout the world including the USA, Germany, Finland, Italy, Brazil and Denmark. In 2005, he was chosen as one of the top role models in medicine by the British Medical Association. Murray is the recipient of the Schizophrenia International Research Society (SIRS) Lifetime Achievement Award for 2020. His work challenged the prevailing view of schizophrenia as an adult-onset brain disease, instead demonstrating that it is in part a neurodevelopmental disorder fueled by insults to the brain during early life. He has identified that environmental and social factors are of great importance in determining susceptibility to psychosis. He found that migrants to the United Kingdom have a much greater incidence of psychosis than their counterparts back home, which appears largely due to social adversity. Robin also identified an increased risk of schizophrenia following heavy use of cannabis, particularly in adolescence, and often speaks publicly about this. He currently researches the molecular effects of THC, the main psychotogenic ingredient of cannabis, and another component known as CBD, which appears to partly block the effects of THC; the high THC/CBD ratio in modern skunk cannabis carries more risk than traditional marijuana. Robin is now most interested in the interaction between predisposing genes and environmental factors in causing psychosis. He treats patients within the National Psychosis Unit at the South London and Maudsley NHS Trust. Professor Sir Robin Murray graduated in medicine at University of Glasgow in 1968 and began his training in psychiatry in 1972 at the Maudsley Hospital in London.  He started researching at the IoP in 1975 where he has, for the most part, remained ever since.

Double Olympic gold medalist Shirley Robertson sits down for a two part podcast chat with the first man ever to sail solo non-stop around the planet, Britain's Sir Robin Knox-Johnston.Sir Robin completed his ground breaking voyage in April 1969, after an astonishing 312 days alone at sea. having sailed his thirty two foot ketch 'Suhaili' thirty thousand miles around the planet. The voyage is one of the most documented in sailing, and was part of the famous Golden Globe race, initiated by the British newspaper, The Sunday Times. Nine entrants eventually left to compete in the Golden Globe, but Sir Robin was the only boat that finished, the physical and mental travails of the effort famously proving too much for many of the other entrants.Sir Robin spent much of his voyage nursing "Suhaili' around the planet, constantly running repairs as the savage effects of months in the ferocious Southern Ocean took a heavy toll. But his trusty craft was more than a match for the brutal southern storms, and it is with deep affection that Sir Robin talks of her now."She was a cracking little sea boat, a wave could wash right over and did on a few occasions, she'd just shake herself and bob back up, like a terrier really. I built up a huge affection for Suhaili, a tremendous trust in her, she is simple, she's not complicated. Everything's stronger than it needs to be, everything's thought through. She's very important to me, she's been part of my life since I was 23, and I've done so much with her, she's done so much for me too. I always say any fool could get her around the world, I proved it!"Sir Robin Knox-Johnston onboard 'Suhaili'Once passed New Zealand, and into the second half of his voyage, a troublesome radio meant Sir Robin struggled to make contact with anyone to inform of his progress, and he was assumed missing until he finally signalled a ship while passing the Azores, just fifteen hundred miles from home. News of his survival hit the front pages, and by the time he steered 'Suhaili' back into the English Channel, he was a household name in the UK. Met by a flotilla of well wishers, the shoreline around Falmouth lined with cheering crowds, Robin Knox-Johnston had become the first man ever to complete the ground breaking voyage. This edition of the podcast is in two parts and is available to listen to via the podcast page of Shirley’s own website, at www.shirleyrobertson.com/podcast or via most popular podcast outlets, including iTunes, Spotify, Google Podcast and aCast. This month double Olympic gold medalist Shirley Robertson sits down for a two part podcast chat with the first man ever to sail solo non-stop around the planet, Britain's Sir Robin Knox-Johnston. In this, Part 2 of their discussion, the pair talk about life after the return from Sir Robin's incredible 312 day journey.Having completed his voyage, and cemented his place in the annals of the history of exploration, Sir Robin's competitive streak soon saw him back on the global race course, and by 1977 he was joint skipper on an entry in the Whitbread Round the World Race, where amongst his crew was a certain Peter Blake. With the announcement of the Jules Verne Trophy, Knox-Johnston and Blake went on to famously form the eventual record holding team, ENZA New Zealand, breaking the established record in 1994 with a 74 day lap of the planet.Robertson and Knox-Johnston then discuss how a trip with British mountaineer and expedition leader Sir Chris Bonnington inspired an idea that would become the 'open to all' crewed around the world adventure, The Clipper Race. It's a race that has been on going now for over twenty years, and is currently in it's twelfth, a fact that Sir Robin ranks as one of his greatest achievements."When I look at all the lives that have benefitted from the Clipper, and the number of those sailors, forty percent of them have never been on a boat before, who have taken up sailing subsequently as their sport, to my mind that is going to rank pretty highly because there's over five thousand people now that have taken the sport up all over the world." states Sir Robin, on being asked by Robertson what he sees as his greatest contribution to the sport. This edition of the podcast is in two parts and is available to listen to via the podcast page of Shirley’s own website, at www.shirleyrobertson.com/podcast or via most popular podcast outlets, including iTunes, Spotify, Google Podcast and aCast. In the last 24 hours, professional footballers across England and Wales decided to boycott social media to protest against the way social media companies and football authorities respond to racism. It's been organised by the Professional Footballer's Association, who say the boycott is just the "first step in a longer campaign to tackle racism in football". Jason Lee is the Equalities Education Executive at the PFA and a former footballer and he joined Ed Harry to give us his verdict of whether it made a difference. Back in 1969 Sir Robin Knox-Johnston became the first person to sail solo non-stop around the world, spending an epic 312 days at sea. He faced numerous challenges along the way. Prior to UCL, Sir Robin served as a judge for the High Court (Chancery Division) and the Court of Appeals for a total of 18 years. Before that he was a barrister and “took silk” at the Intellectual Property Bar for 28 years. Being a “born litigator,” Sir Robin talks about his life as a barrister including how he became one and what his typical work week looked like. Sir Robin left the Court of Appeal at age 70. He looks back on his life as a judge and a jurist’s perspective on IP litigation. He also discusses his current academic and arbitrator/mediator experience. Hugh and Sir Robin discuss IP in different parts of the world, and it might surprise some to learn which country Sir Robin names as having “the poorest litigation system in the world.” This discussion includes differing views on the value of a jury system and also what the future might hold for IP in general. Sir Robin had been crucial in the creation of the idea and early discussion of a Unified Patent Court. It has had an interesting, if difficult incubation period. The EU Commission took over control and then abandoned it. It was revived by one bold Commission Head of Unit. Then came Brexit. Where is it now? Sir Robin discusses whether in his view it will at last become an important component of European patent law.

Professor Murray is an Honorary Consultant Psychiatrist in the Psychosis Service located at the Bethlem Royal Hospital in South London. He is also a Professor of Psychiatric Research at the Institute of Psychiatry. His research covers epidemiology, molecular genetics, neuropsychiatry, neuroimaging, neuropsychology and neuropharmacology.  Professor Murray’s main research interest is finding the causes of schizophrenia and bipolar disorder, as well as developing better treatments for these disorders. He is perhaps best known for helping to establish the neurodevelopmental hypothesis of schizophrenia, and for his work on the environmental risk factors relating to schizophrenia, such as obstetric events and cannabis use. In 2011, Professor Murray was awarded a knighthood for services to medicine and he is the second most widely cited psychiatrist in the world outside the USA. In this interview we discuss: •How Professor Murray came to psychiatry and what sparked his interest in research into psychosis. •Professor Murray’s work to counter the concept of schizophrenia as a debilitating brain disease and how we came to appreciate the many factors that may contribute to psychotic illness. •The importance of recognising the influence of social factors in the causes of psychotic illness. •The differences between the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual (DSM V) and the International Classification of Diseases (ICD 11). •How psychiatric diagnoses compare and contrast to diagnoses in other branches of medicine. •The question of whether schizophrenia is a real entity or purely an artificial construct. •How antipsychotic drugs exert their effects and the mechanisms by which they may lead, in some cases, to dopamine supersensitivity. •How we should be  cautious about the long-term prescribing of antipsychotic drugs. •The effect that limited healthcare resources have on psychiatric diagnoses and treatments. •What the future may hold for research into and treatment options for psychosis. This week Matt and Jared joined the knights of the round table alongside King Arthur and brave, brave Sir Robin in their quest for the holy grail. #163 is Sir Robin Knox-Johnston, a sailing legend. In 1968 he became the first person to sail solo & nonstop around the world in the infamous Golden Globe Race, in a wooden ketch he built himself, and inspiring modern ocean racing as we know it. Sir Robin went on to compete in several Whitbread races, completed some little-known feats of traditional navigation, set the Jules Verne record with Peter Blake, created the Clipper Race and on and on. I sat down with him in England to reflect on his career. "I got a job in Durban, as captain of a ship, running up & down the east coast. And that’s when Chichester went past on his voyage around the world and I began to think about it. I got home, and I saw him come in, saw him come up the Thames, and I thought, ‘There’s one thing left to do - go around without stopping.’" You’re listening to On the Wind, my podcast about ocean sailing. I’m Andy Schell. -- Want to go ocean sailing? Join Andy & Mia on their Swan 48 Isbjorn at 59-north.com/offshore.

In episode 61 of TripleCast, Cory and Travis begin the quest of "Breaking the 4th Wall" and discuss "Monty Python and the Holy Grail." Arthur, King of the Britons, is looking for knights to sit with him at Camelot. He finds many knights including Sir Galahad the pure, Sir Lancelot the brave, the quiet Sir Bedevere, and Sir Robin the Not-Quite-So-Brave-as-Sir Lancelot. Through satire of certain events in history (witch trials, the black plague) they find Camelot, but after literally a quick song and dance they decide that they do not want to go there. While walking away, God (who seems to be grumpy) come to them from a cloud and tells them to find the Holy Grail. They agree and begin their search. Most of the characters die in some ridiculous manner, and in the end, King Arthur and Sir Bedevere are left to find the Castle Arrrghhh where the Holy Grail is. But will snobby taunting French guards and a low budget will be their undoing? Read More...
