What are some ways that you can incorporate Yule into your life? We chat about Yule, wintertime, and various ways you can bring the energy of this cycle into your holiday season.
The global Covid-19 pandemic has worsened inequality. Oxfam International found that while billionaire fortunes returned to pre-pandemic highs in just nine months, a recovery for the world's poorest people could take over a decade. In the United States, wealthier people have kept their jobs and decreased their expenses as they transitioned to working from home, while others have either gone to work on the frontlines or lost their jobs altogether. What caused this widening gap and can it be reversed? Gillian White, of The Atlantic, interviews Beth Ann Bovino, chief US economist at S&P Global Ratings, Morningstar CEO Kunal Kapoor, and Children's Defense Fund President Starsky Wilson about how to build wealth equity and create a more prosperous future for everyone.

It's about time we were able to do an episode specifically focusing on the wonderful Michael Jai White, and two new releases finally gave us the opportunity to do so! Joining Mike, Rich and Steve this week is special guest MATT POIRIER, a fellow podcaster and author from the USA. This week we start off with WELCOME TO SUDDEN DEATH, a remake/sequel (its no longer clear which!) where MJW battles mercenaries inside a basketball arena. Next up is TAKE BACK, in which MJW takes more of a back seat to allow his wife Gillian White take the limelight, and to say see makes the most of the opportunity is an understatement! Check out our review for more info! Our Short Shot, 3 BULLETS, is a little older than usual but stars MJW and features the likes of Bokeem Woodbine and Run Yuan (who also directs). Rob Yuan also turns up in our DTV Throwback, BLOOD AND BONE, which not only contaiins amazing choreography by Larnel Stovall but features Eamon Walker as one of the best bad guys, and the always watchable Julian Sands making Enter the Dragon references! His book CHAD FROM ACCOUNTING is available from Amazon Don't forget to check out our own TWITTER and FACEBOOK pages!

In this fast-paced episode Vivica talks with Michael Jai and Gillian White about their cliffhanger love story and lessons in show business. Happily married since 2015, actor-martial artist, Michael Jai White, and wife, actor and martial artist, Gillian, do everything together including training, raising their three girls and staring in and producing movies. Michael has eight black belts and Gil became the first African American women martial art star in their recently wrapped action thriller, “Take Back.” The couple has a fight scene and Gil wins! It wasn’t always easy professionally for the couple. Even though he was a skillful fighter and actor, Michael wasn’t getting hired because Tinsel town moguls preferred white heroes. One executive told him if he was white he could be as big as Tom Cruise. Undaunted Michael worked abroad, returning stateside to become the biggest martial arts star in the U.S. Gil had to endure racism and sexism, as well, but both have come through tough times, having taken control of their work with their production company, Jaigantic Entertainment. Just as dramatic as their working stories, is their love story. They met 25 years ago, dated happily and then drifted apart because of their schedules. Years later Michael realized, while away on a set, that Gil was the love of his life. He called her, confessed his feelings and they’ve been together ever since. Michael wasn’t going to let Gil get away and he wasn’t going to get angry about racism in Hollywood. He got motived, got the jobs and the girl. A great lesson for all of us. https://www.vivicafox.com Instagram @msvfox Twitter: @mcvivicafox Instagram: @vivicahustling Stage 29 Podcasts Instagram Stage 29 Podcasts Twitter Stage 29 Podcasts Facebook http://www.michaeljaiwhite.com/ https://twitter.com/MichaelJaiWhite https://www.instagram.com/themichaeljaiwhite/ https://www.instagram.com/iamgillianwhite/?hl=es-la https://www.imdb.com/name/nm0914089/ https://twitter.com/gillianiliana https://www.facebook.com/ScreenStar75 Learn more about your ad choices. Welcome back everyone! This week I' m excited to share my interview with Dr. Gillian White. Gill did her PhD with me at the University of Toronto. Gill's research was on stress reactivity in children with cancer. Gill has developed an expertise in neurophysiology, stress, behaviour, and how physical activity can modulate stress. In this conversation, we discuss what she's learned from her research about stress and how we can apply these learnings to our every day life. She discusses the importance of having stress in our lives and that we shouldn't try and eliminate it, but rather manage it constructively and effectively. I think this conversation is very topical as we're all trying to deal with increasing levels of stress in our lives right now. So hopefully this is really helpful for you and you get some good insight into different behavioural strategies and habits you can incorporate into your life to manage stress. Enjoy the conversation! --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/dr-greg-wells/support
This is the 15th episode of a podcast mini-series to accompany FLOP 13 Stories of Failure, a free exhibition at the UCL Octagon Gallery open from 21 October 2019 to 10 April 2020. The intention is that the podcasts can be accessed both while people are looking at the exhibits and independently without having visited the exhibition. In this 15th episode Drs Gillian Watson and Barry Hancock, from the Mullard Space Science Laboratory, discuss the failed launch of Ariane 5 flight 501 in 1996.

With movies like Crazy Rich Asians, BlacKkKlansman, and Sorry To Bother You out in theaters, Hollywood is trying to mute the complaint that it lacks racial and ethnic diversity, to avoid another #OscarsSoWhite. But depicting people of color onscreen was always the easy part. Next comes a harder question: how authentically are minority experiences being represented? Matt sits down with senior editor Gillian White and culture writer Hannah Giorgis to discuss. As Atlantic staff writer Robinson Meyer recently wrote, Facebook “is currently embroiled in the worst crisis of trust in its 14-year history.” This week, the company’s CEO Mark Zuckerberg testified before the U.S. Congress for the first time. It’s not clear whether Congress will seek to exert more regulatory control over the company, even after revelations that as many as 87 million people unwittingly had their Facebook data given to the political firm Cambridge Analytica, which may have used some of that data to influence the 2016 U.S. election. And the questions senators asked of Zuckerberg suggest they may not yet understand Facebook well enough to regulate it effectively, even if they wanted to. In this Radio Atlantic news update, Rob shares what he learned from his exclusive interview with Zuckerberg, and from the CEO’s testimony before Congress. We discuss with Atlantic senior editor Gillian White whether Facebook can be regulated, and whether it will. The 'retail apocalypse' is upon us, they say. In the United States, 2017 saw emptied malls, shuttered department stores, and once-iconic brands falling into bankruptcy. Yet retail spending continues to grow, in strange new directions that could have significant effects. What will shopping look like in the future? How will these changes reverberate throughout the country? Atlantic editor Gillian White joins our hosts to discuss. If you listen to Radio Atlantic, we value your feedback. Actor Nate Parker is the center of a lot attention these days because of his upcoming movie The Birth of A Nation. Parker wrote, directed and stars as Nat Turner, leader of an historic 1831 slave rebellion in Virginia. Last winter, Parker won a multi-million dollar distribution deal for the movie at the Sundance Film Festival. As the anticipation grows for the film's release, a chapter from Parker's college past has come under scrutiny. He was charged and later acquitted in a rape trial as a student-athlete at Penn State. Code Switch's Karen Grigsby Bates moderates a conversation about how Parker's past and his responses in the present may affect what some already consider an important motion picture. Karen is joined by Gillian White, senior associate editor at The Atlantic, Michael Arceneaux, a columnist for Complex magazine, and Goldie Taylor, an editor-at-large of The Daily Beast.
