In this episode we welcome Fast Show legend Simon Day to downtown Hammersmith and ask him about his musical passions and the immortal Life Of Rock With Brian Pern. We start with our guest's misspent youth in south-east London, where he frequently saw bands such as Dr. Feelgood and local lads Squeeze and even fronted his own punk combo Simon & the Virgins. We hear about his early days on the standup circuit and his close associations with Vic Reeves, Bob Mortimer and the gang that coalesced around The Fast Show. From there we discuss the genesis of his "prog'n'roll" alter ego Brian Pern and his affectionate lampooning of Peter Gabriel. Clips from a 2003 audio interview with Steely Dan prompt an in-depth conversation about Donald Fagen and the late Walter Becker. During this, Simon tells us how he first fell for the arch duo and we collectively compare notes on some of the group's greatest songs and albums. After a brief mention of featured writer Dorian Lynskey and his new book Everything Must Go, Mark quotes from newly-added library pieces about Mötley Crüe's Nikki Sixx and Beatles hairdresser Leslie Cavendish before Jasper talks us out with his thoughts on M. People's Heather Small and a particularly cantankerous Van Morrison. Many thanks to special guest Simon Day. Pieces discussed: Genesis Doing The Foxtrot, Genesis: No "Pale" Imitation, Seventies prog rockers Genesis are back, but are they welcomed?, All Apologies: Brian Pern, Steely Dan audio, Wayne Robins on the RBP podcast, Pete Seeger, Kendrick Lamar, Why do pop stars fall for conspiracy theories?, Dorian Lynskey on the RBP podcast, Mötley Crüe, Beatles hairdresser Leslie Cavendish, Elvis, The King Remembered — An oral history, Heather Small: Proud, Los Campesinos!, and A duel with Van Morrison.

M People is an English dance music band that formed in 1990, signed to Deconstruction Records, and achieved massive success throughout most of that decade. Fun fact: the name M People is taken from the first letter of the first name of band member Mike Pickering, who formed the group. Fronted by Heather Small, whose powerful gospel-influenced voice is distinctive and full of soul. So to celebrate their timeless dance classics, I've collated a 2-hour collection of 20 M Tracks, remixed by some of the very best! Enjoy. M Tracklisting...1. The Simply Vegan Podcast is bought to you by the UK's only vegan magazine, Vegan Food & Living. Hosted by magazine editor Holly Johnson, join us on the first Thursday of each month as we chat to some of the inspirational people helping to grow the vegan movement – from chefs and influencers to athletes and doctors. In today's feel-good episode, we're joined by the founder of VEGAN Happy, Lorri Delahunty. Lorri shares the lightbulb moment she went from meat lover to vegan within just a few hours, having watched videos by animal rights activists Gary Yourovsky and Joey Carbstrong. We discuss different forms of activism, and whether there's a polarisation in the movement between those who think activism can't change anything and those compelled to act. Lorri explains how she set up her clothing line to get people talking about veganism and the all-important issues with our food systems, animal welfare, the environment and our health and why she believes it's so important to be kind and support people rather than judge them.Lorri also chats about the recent Face of VEGAN Happy competition, judged by singer Heather Small, Viva!'s Juliet Gellatley and Vegan Food & Living's Holly Johnson and how it's created a community of like-minded people who want to see a kinder, more compassionate world.Notes from today's episode and ways to support us and the vegan movement• Watch Gary Yourovsky's speech on YouTube• Watch Joey Carbstrong's activism on YouTube• Check out the range of subtle vegan clothing at VEGAN Happy• Visit The Farm Animal Sanctuary • Leave us a review and share this episode with friends• Try an issue of Vegan Food and Living magazine for just 99p at veganfoodandliving.com/podcast Get bonus content on Patreon Hosted on Acast. February is here and it brings with it World Pride in Sydney as well as the Sydney Mardi Gras. These 2 events take UP! pretty much all of February and lead into March and I believe that this is the first time a World Pride event has been held in the Southern Hemisphere. I decided to split the usual Pride Anthems episodes into two parts - one in February for World Pride and the other one I will release in June this year which is traditionally Pride month around the world. As always with the Pride releases, I try to select music with a strong, positive message as it is a celebration of the LGBTQI community after all. This set kicks off with 2 very recent remixes of 2 classic tracks. "Joy" by Staxx and "Stronger" by Britney Spears. Division 4 features 3 back to back remixes here for Missy Elliott, Soulsearcher and Heather Small respectively. Tony Moran's classic remix of Madonna's "Crazy For You" is also here, along with Therese's "Put 'Em High" expertly remixed by Jet Boot Jack. Mary J. Blige's "Just Fine" is such an uplifting dance floor anthem as is Mel B's "For Once In My Life" mixed by JRMX. Moving towards the back end of the set are classic tracks from Beyonce`, Bex, Kylie Minogue, Whitney Houston and Inaya Day. Toy Armada delivers an updated mix of Kim English's massive hit "Everyday" and Dirty Disco close this edition of Pride Anthems with an outstanding mix of the original Sister Sledge hit "We Are Family". For all the visitors to Sydney for the festivals and to everyone around the world, get ur freak on and celebrate with Pride. The British-born actor and singer Olivia Newton-John has died at the age of 73. Best remembered for playing the iconic role of Sandy in the musical film Grease. We pay tribute with Stockard Channing who played Rizzo in Grease, and the film critic Karen Krizanovich and Olivia Moore who is currently playing her in the stage version in London's west end. Brit & Mercury prize winner Heather Small on ‘Colour My Life', her first album in sixteen years. For the album, she teamed up with the London Metropolitan Orchestra to re-imagine all of her Top 10 hits as well as release new songs and covers. What is it like to live with a chronic but hidden illness? Poppy Nash is a textile artist who lives with type 1 diabetes and one of her latest works The Art of Dying 2.0 is a full-scale installation of bedclothes and bedding, examining the experience of living in isolation as a ‘vulnerable' person through the pandemic. Ione Gamble lives with Crohn's disease. She's the founder & editor of the art, fashion and culture publication, Polyester and has now written a book, Poor Little Sick Girls. The overturning of Roe v Wade in the USA has put abortion very much at the top of the news agenda. Our 2019 series in which women spoke, often for the first time, about their abortions seems even more relevant now. Today, a woman we are calling Kerry talks about the abortion she had when she was 18 and her certainty then and now that this was the right choice for her. -------------> https://znap.link/thatsY IG: www.instagram.com/giulio_thatsyLinkedIn: www.linkedin.com/in/giulioberonia FB: www.facebook.com/ThatSyouth Website: www.thatsy.net

The original set was updated so that the Josh Harris remix of 'Proud' by Heather Small was switched out for the original remix by Illicit and the transition from 'We Are Family' by Sister Sledge was pushed out by 15 seconds for a smoother transition. We have finally reached the end of the Ultimate Gay Anthems & PRIDE Classics series and this fifth volume does not disappoint. I cannot begin to describe how difficult it is compiling and mixing this massive series. The decision process alone determining which songs make the cut and those that get left behind is a painful process. So, if there's anything you feel is missing — it'll likely make an appearance on the forthcoming Essential Gay Anthems For A New Generation set(s) I have planned for next week. I've been syphoning new remixes for songs that will be included and placing them into their own special folder and will collect our favorites since the original series began and compile everything into possibly two massive sets. For this final set, which represents a very specific time period between the 90's and say the first 15 years of the millennium with updated classics from those periods as welll as the 80's — I want to recognize the DJs that have not only filled our lives with so much joy but enriched them with their mastery and midas touch when it comes to reworking other artists. Over the course of this 5-set journey, the bulk of the biggest names have already been reconized in our Legacy series, which honors the work of not only the living but the deceased members of this elite community. It's no wonder that Hex Hector, Junior Vasquez, Ralphi Rosario, Tony Moran, Freemasons, Almighty, 7th Heaven, DJ Barry Harris, Thunderpuss, Victor Calderone, Toy Armada & DJ Grind, Wayne G and Jonathan Peters make up the bulk of what's presented here. No other DJs have contributed so much to our happiness and for that — we are most grateful for the joy they've brought to our lives. Keep in mind that while this series is a pretty fucking big deal and massive in scope and size — in no way does it discount or relegates artists, DJs and allies to the LGBTQ+ community not mentioned or represented in this series any less worthy. We worship them all and if I've left someone out — please accept my deepest apologies. I'll be back next week. Until then...ENJOY! This set has been updated since the original post. 'I Believe 2009 (Ralphi Rosario Vocal Club Mix)' by The Absolute feat. Suzanne Palmer was substituted for 'Body Rock' by Oceana and 'Dancing On My Own (Guy Scheiman Club Remix)' by Robyn was added to the final version. No sooner than I finished yesterday's post — I found an issue with the website, which lead me down a rabbit hole of multiple issues. Mind you, nothing that affects the user experience but triggers my anal instincts of perfection. By the time I finished and resolved to leave some issues for another day — my day was lost and I was too tired to finish volume 4 of the Ultimate Gay Anthems & PRIDE Classics that I promised I was going to do. Rick has been out of town so that allowed me to get up early this morning and get to work on cleaning up this mix, while replacing a couple of tracks with better versions. Then I started adding stuff I had forgotten about and this 4-hour set turned into nearly 5 hours. The end result is shear perfection and frankly a delight for GenX and early Millennials. I had decided to skip on mixing up a variety of styles for the final two volumes, which makes things a bit easier so volume 4 is big room circuit but nothing that's over the top. There's a lot of gay anthems and quality classic gay pride cuts here. As I had previously stated, this series is as close as you're going to get to a best of the Diva Hall of Fame people have asked me for. What's nice about this is that all those leading ladies that I never got around to inducting or for whatever reason didn't feel it was warranted — are included here. People like Jeanie Tracy, Kimberly Davis, Anastacia, Suzanne Palmer (who really deserves an entry), Paula Cole, Shania Twain, Heather Small (of M People), Judy Cheeks, Alison Limerick, Lara Fabian, Nelly Furtado, Debby Holiday, Amber, Goldfrapp, Sarah Atereth, Deborah Cooper, Beth Sacks, Pepper MaShay, Andra Day, Latanza Waters, CeCe Peniston, Sabrina Johnston, Shawn Christoper, Soraya Vivian (Degrees of Motion), Thelma Houston and so many more have touched our little gay hearts at one point or another in our drama-filled lives that it's a travesty that I can't acknowledge all of them. Consider this series their honorary induction and acknowledgement of what they've meant to so many of us. We say, thank you from the bottom of our little queer hearts. We've got one more set to go, which will be the remaining Hi NRG and house music tracks before jumping into the annual Gay Anthems For A New Generation so we can wrap up our 2022 Gay Pride offerings before festivities start kicking off. The Ultimate Gay Anthems & PRIDE Classics volume 3 is now ready for mass release and this one follows in the same footsteps as its predecessors in that it goes back and forth from Hi NRG to Big Room classics. Apparently, I had compiled more tracks than I realized, so this four-set series will turn into five. I've pretty much got volume 4 in the bag but want to make some last minute track version changes and plan on dropping that tomorrow to speed things up. The goal is to have the final volume and the anticipated two-volume set of The Ultimate Gay Anthems For A New Generation out by the end of the month so we can move on to regularly scheduled programming. It's not clear if there will be an official 2022 Gay Pride set — so I'll just leave that as an open question mark. In other news, Apple went back and has now put the entire Party Favorz Store up on Apple Podcasts. The show is available in iTunes but there they only have the standard Party Favorz show and all the other shows are listed out in the wild separately from the main show (that's not how they used to do it so I may have to reach out to them to have them put under one umbrella). I'm not sure why iTunes is different from Apple Podcasts but I'm not going to spend a lot of time on it. Anywho, you can now follow Party Favorz on Apple Podcasts as well as each individual category separately and it's all under one roof here https://apple.co/3NbkT7t If you're following on iTunes, I'd still recommend using the manual  method because that one lists up to 300 episodes while the official channel only has 100. Plus, you can go back and add each category individually to keep all your folders better organized if you choose by using the feed URL for each genre I provided in my last post. Since I took that post down — I will try to have those listed in the support section later today. I should be back tomorrow. Until then...ENJOY! After road-testing the latest T-Dance set for Pride, we thought we'd get ahead of the curve and do a late-week drop before the weekend. Pride T-Dance Edition 2021 is part of the Party Favorz re-entry into T-Dance, which was a staple in the early years of this podcast. This special Pride edition is chock-full of updated gay anthem classics as well as current House Music tracks that are perfect for Sunday afternoon reveling or frankly, anytime you want something a little less hard-hitting than our traditional circuit and anthems sets. Dropping this now will allow for the creation of Gay Anthems For a New Generation 2021 with a (hopeful) release by this upcoming Sunday but don't hold us to that. If we can clear the slate — it will buy us some time to start the Apple Music transfer that was discussed in the Pride Edition 2021 last week and is going to be a long tedious process. Additionally, we were informed that the issues surrounding our app had been resolved but they still persist. So, that's going to require additional testing, which in turn necessitates more free time. Ultimately, an earlier release of these sets allows folks already celebrating Pride before the official U.S. date and the international Pride Day a week later to get into the spirit as these events take place. This is another whopper of a set and we didn't hold back. There's more than enough here to fill up your little queer hearts. Until the next time...ENJOY! I want to give a special shoutout to Dirk S. ($50) and Michael H. ($100) for their unexpected yet very generous donations! You guys are much appreciated!!!
