Welcome to Pride Anthems volume 13. It must be June - the traditional Pride month around the world. This years Pride celebrations have come under attack, particularly in the USA from predominantly Christian conservative groups. These people don't like the idea of a section of the community carving out a living space for themselves and seem to be jealous of our innate ability to have a fabulous time while supporting each other against their prejudice. Our community is very diverse and very accepting of pretty much everyone. So in that spirit, I present to you the 2024 edition of Pride Anthems. Was there ever a more appropriately titled song than ABBA's "Dancing Queen"? The Jackers Revenge remix of it is awesome and kicks off the set. I wanted the track selection on this set to reflect empowerment and freedom of choice in life and love. These 21 songs do that I believe. Some are classic dance floor anthems such as "Touch Me", "Hot Stuff", "Believe" and "Searchin". Others have been purposefully written and recorded for the community such as "Fight On" and "Chosen Family". Included are hit songs from Whitney, Mariah, Rihanna, Taylor, and of course, Kylie. Remixes come from across the spectrum with standouts from Division 4, Moto Blanco and 7th Heaven. The wonderful Mark from Dirty Disco once again came to my rescue and generously forwarded me some advance mixes as well as a private one. I always seem to be thanking him in my comments but I truly mean it Mark. There is drive and energy in this set which is indicative of the LGBTQ+ community. Happy Pride month everyone. This month's edition of UP! has loads of drive and energy. I've included mostly new tracks mixed in with a few classics from the past 15 years. Pride month may be over but July carries on with world wide parties and celebrations. I would like to add July's edition of UP! to the festivities. This set is jam packed with uplifting house and club anthems to keep the party going. Kicking it off is the Sonny Federa & Ella Henderson collaboration "Like I Used To" followed by Australia's own Ricki-Lee with her new single "On My Own". Producer Jolyon Petch remixes this song as well as his own track "Make A Move". Australian producer Nick Jay delivers a killer remix of Australian diva Tina Arena's 90's hit "I Need Your Body" which I meant to put on last month's Pride Anthems but completely forgot. (I'm very vague sometimes). Division 4 delivers a funky remix of Lizzo's "Phone" which I really like. Dirty Disco (Mark de Lange) has been very busy turning out some outstanding remixes recently and I feature six of them in this set. Artists include Kylie Minogue's "Padam Padam" (her massive summer smash hit), Dua Lipa, Kristine W, Sam Smith & Madonna, Ariana Castelli and Adam Lambert - a veritable smorgasbord of Dirty Disco. We lost a legend of the music industry in late May of this year. Tina Turner was an incredible artist turning out hits from the 60's through to the 2010's. I've included the Joe Gauthreaux remix of one of her biggest hits "The Best" (RIP Tina). Debby Holiday delivers a powerful vocal on her Pride hit "Love Lift Me Up" collaborating with Stephen Jusko & DJ Blacklow. Toy Armada also features two remixes here for Mary Kiani on her cover of "Giving Up, Giving In" as well as Kim Petras & Nicki Minaj's massive hit "Alone". Idina Menzel has a pumping new song out, "Move" remixed by Guy Scheiman. The set closes out with Sigala & Adam Lambert's cover of the Sylvester classic "Mighty Real". I was a little bit slow off the mark getting my annual Pride Anthems edition out for June this month. None the less, here is the June 2023 edition. This is 27 remixed club anthems starting off with some smooth house remixes and moving towards main club and big room club anthems from the middle through to the end. The set kicks off with Dirty Disco's classic house remix of Candi Staton's "Young Hearts Run Free" and moves into Division 4's funky mix of Angie Stone's "Wish I Didn't Miss You". Jacked features two mixes here for Divine Inspiration and Chic respectively and DJ KaktuZ turns in a great house mix of "Believe" by Cher. Division 4 features two more mixes for Kylie Minogue and Madonna respectively and the Beachbums do a nice re-edit of one of my favourite songs from last year "Fearless" by Tom Grennan. Jet Boot Jack has been turning out some fantastic house mixes recently and two of his feature here. Shauna Jensen released an uplifting anthem for World Pride in Sydney this year with fantastic vocals. I had to put the Dirty Disco and Debby Holiday collaboration "Find A Way" in this set as it has fast become one of my all time favourite club tracks - period. The messaging is powerful and Debby's vocals have never been more amazing. With it's official release recently, Mark (de Lang) did a remix of his original remix and it is stunning. Toy Armada has been busy with Jace M turning out mixes for Janet Jackson and Kelly Clarkson as well as his original take on the 90's classic Sunchyme. Keala Settle's "This Is Me" is a powerful anthem and Joe Gauthreaux's remix lifts it up even more. I snuck a couple of male vocals in this edition as I didn't do a Mardi Gras Men this year so I had to put Tony Moran's awesome version of "Pride" In The Name Of Love on here as well. The last few tracks are pure pop joy from Demi Lovato and Boyz With Toyz. Vanessa Amorosi's powerhouse "Absolutely Everybody" closes out this massive edition of Pride Anthems for June 2023. February is here and it brings with it World Pride in Sydney as well as the Sydney Mardi Gras. These 2 events take UP! pretty much all of February and lead into March and I believe that this is the first time a World Pride event has been held in the Southern Hemisphere. I decided to split the usual Pride Anthems episodes into two parts - one in February for World Pride and the other one I will release in June this year which is traditionally Pride month around the world. As always with the Pride releases, I try to select music with a strong, positive message as it is a celebration of the LGBTQI community after all. This set kicks off with 2 very recent remixes of 2 classic tracks. "Joy" by Staxx and "Stronger" by Britney Spears. Division 4 features 3 back to back remixes here for Missy Elliott, Soulsearcher and Heather Small respectively. Tony Moran's classic remix of Madonna's "Crazy For You" is also here, along with Therese's "Put 'Em High" expertly remixed by Jet Boot Jack. Mary J. Blige's "Just Fine" is such an uplifting dance floor anthem as is Mel B's "For Once In My Life" mixed by JRMX. Moving towards the back end of the set are classic tracks from Beyonce`, Bex, Kylie Minogue, Whitney Houston and Inaya Day. Toy Armada delivers an updated mix of Kim English's massive hit "Everyday" and Dirty Disco close this edition of Pride Anthems with an outstanding mix of the original Sister Sledge hit "We Are Family". Rounding out the June edition of Pride Anthems for this year is volume 10. For this set I wanted to pump up the pace and have a blend of old and new classic Pride anthems. The set kicks off with Gloria Gaynor's iconic "I Am What I Am" before flipping to some classic Madonna, Kylie Minogue and Donna Summer. Dirty Disco contribute two fantastic mixes for Cactushead and Madonna respectively. Kesha's collaboration with Sam Feldt is an empowering anthem mixed by Juskow & Blacklow and Wayne G. delivers a thumping remix of Rochelle's "Love Is A Battlefield". The set closes out with classic tracks from Celine Dion and M People. Other standout mixes come from Dario Xavier, Tommer Mizrahi and Chris Cox. Keep powering along and staying strong. June has arrived and with it comes the latest edition of Pride Anthems. This 9th edition is filled with original classic songs that filled dance floors at Pride parties around the world as well as some updated remixes. Dirty Disco and Swishcraft Music have been putting out some truly awesome Pride remixes over the last few years and I have used three of them for this compilation. Australian female artistes feature quite heavily in this mix with tracks from Kylie Minogue, Delta Goodrem, Dami Im and Paulini. Other standout remixes come from 7th Heaven, Division 4, Barry Harris, Dave Aude` and Almighty. This year seems to be a particularly prominent one to express Pride around the world, especially considering the conservative push to limit and silence LGBTQ+ rights in the USA. The May '22 edition of UP! starts off with some great commercial house hits and moves into main room floor fillers. Kicking off the set is the David Guetta, Ella Henderson & Becky Hill collaboration "Crazy What Love Can Do". Ella Henderson features again later in the set with her track "This Is Real". Division 4 turns in a funky house mix of "Sold My Soul" by Dan Slater & Zoe Badwi and David Guetta is back again, this time with Joel Corry & Bryson Tiller. Wayne G. does a great mix on "Famous" by Katy Tiz and Beverley Knight teams up with Bimbo Jones on the classic "I Found Out". Dirty Disco turns in two killer mixes for Lady Gaga and Charli XCX respectively and Inaya Day remakes Kelly Rowland's "Commander". I know I said I was going to post the 8th edition of Pride Anthems in July but I got bored waiting :) So here it is now, Pride Anthems part 8. This edition heads back to the 90's and 2000's with some classic remixes from Hex Hector and Dezrok respectively for I5 and Jennifer Lopez. I had a tough time deciding which Moto Blanco remix of Mary J Blige to use but eventually settled on "We Ride". Wayne G delivers two killer mixes for Martha Wash and Icona Pop as do 7th Heaven for Britney's classic "Work Bitch!" and Nick Jay's remake of "Rockin' For Myself" with Carlotta Chadwick. Tommer Mizrahi's remix of Katy Perry's "Chained To The Rhythm" is awesome and Guena LG reshapes Lady Gaga's "Just Dance". The back end of the set closes out with an excellent 2021 remix of Whitney's "I Wanna Dance With Somebody" and a stunning reinvention from Nick Stracener on "From This Moment" by Shania Twain. Pride month is in full swing and this 8th edition of Pride Anthems kicks it firmly into high gear. It's that time of the year again where summer kicks off in the northern hemisphere which means Pride celebrations also kick off. For this 7th edition of Pride Anthems, I've reached back to the 90's and early 2000's for some classic, uplifting vocal house anthems. The set kicks off with the Almighty mix of Obsession's cover of "If I Can't Have You". Up Yer Ronson had a big club hit with "Lost In Love" and Almighty strike again with their remix of Diana Ross' "Ain't No Mountain High Enough". Division 4 delivers a punchy, uptempo remix of Mariah Carey's mega hit "Emotions" and Dirty Disco reinvents the Freemasons "When You Touch Me". Wayne G does a stellar job on Madonna's "Celebration" as well as "You Raise Me Up". I remember being in Miami and hearing Le Monde's "I Have No Fear" in the 90's and thinking I must get that. Listen to the incredible journey and wisdom of Randi Driscoll, an award winning singer/songwriter and actress.  Randi’s original song “What Matters” has been featured in several stage productions, films and documentaries, and proceeds from the song support the Matthew Shepard Foundation, an anti-hate charity. The choral version of Randi’s song has been performed by over fifty choirs internationally, and has been featured at New York’s Carnegie Hall and the Disney Hall in California. A film about the making of Randi's song "What Matters" has earned several awards and the song itself was named one of the top Pride Anthems, by the Advocate Magazine. Most recently Randi’s original song “No Song” won best Adult Contemporary in the Song of the Year contest. Randi's original music is a blend of piano driven singer/songwriter music with elements of pop, country and jazz. Her music has been featured in film, television, and a commercial directed by Spike Lee, in which Randi also appeared. Her performance credits include appearances at Lincoln Center, Place des Arts (Montreal), The Japan Center for the Arts, The Ford Theatre and numerous universities, performance halls, nightclubs and cabarets. Randi studied theatre and music at the University of San Diego, and her theatrical credits include most recently appearing alongside Bradley Whitford and Mary McDonnell in the Broad Stage's "Laramie Project; Epilogue" (Romaine Patterson). Randi has appeared in several San Diego film and stage productions, and has worked as a teaching artist and director for San Diego Junior Theatre, CYT,  The Musician's Institute (Los Angeles), The Performer's Academy (OC) and Wingspan Arts, (NYC). Randi has shared the stage with a wide range of artists, including Pat Benatar, Dar Williams, Bruce Hornsby, Bonnie Raitt, Anthony Rapp (Rent), Max Von Essen (An American in Paris), Jason Mraz, and Dave Koz. Randi has released seven solo studio albums and has participated in or performed on, over fifty more, for various artists and bands, including musician and MLB coach,  Tim Flannery, Gospel artist, Shyla Nibbe, Journalist and performer, Jamie Reno,  and several recordings with prominent choirs. Randi’s first solo release, "Climb" on East River Records, was recorded at Studio West and produced by Jon Mathias. Since that time, Randi's cds have been released independently, on her own label, Dramatique Records.  Randi’s most recent release, "Glass Slipper” is a collection of original songs, produced by Noah Heldman and Grammy winner Larry Mitchell. The CD features a duet with People Magazine's up and coming country artist, Aaron Parker, and a wide range of musical guests, including Grammy award winning cellist, Dave Eggar. In July of 2018, Randi, her husband Andrew, and their daughter, Skyler Faith, relocated to Nashville TN. Randi continues to tour year round, and is currently finishing her forthcoming CD, produced by Dean Miller, and featuring some of Nashville’s finest musicians. Her new songs have awarded her several notable mentions; including; Winner, of "The Top Writer” series, Nashville TN, (2019) Best Love Song, Betty Lou’s Songwriter night ( Happy Hour in Heaven) Nashville, TN, 2018 and a weekly finalist for Nashville’s Rising Star competition, 2017. The always reliable Division 4 weighs in with three remixes for Janet Jackson, Katy Perry and Belinda Carlisle. Barry Harris turns in a funky update of Madison Avenue's "Don't Call Me Baby" and Wayne G. works his magic on two tracks for 7th Heaven and Carly Rae Jepsen respectively. For June/July 2020 I decided to release two editions of Pride Anthems similar to how I do in March with Mardi Gras Anthems. This 4th edition of Pride Anthems has a distinctly different sound and feel to number 3. This edition sits squarely in the big room and circuit arena with some great new remixes of past anthems to have graced the dance floors of Pride events around the world. The set opens with the Toy Armada & DJ GRIND remix of Mel B's uplifting "For Once In My Life" which is followed by a killer Dario Xavier remix of Madonna's classic "Where's The Party". June is the kick off month for various Pride events in the summer around the world although, this year they might be virtual events considering the ongoing effects of Covid19. That doesn't mean that we can't celebrate with more classic anthems that have made their mark at Pride parties over the years. The June 2020 edition of Pride Anthems does exactly that. Kicking off the set is an amazing Division 4 remix of Mariah Carey's "Dreamlover". In fact, Division 4 has done so many awesome updated remixes of classic tracks that four of them feature in this set including "Crazy In Love", "Never Enough" and "I Will Love Again". Thelma Houston's "Don't Leave Me this Way" has been remixed so many times, it's hard to make a choice on which one to use. I decided on the more old school version by Almighty. The Pete Hammond remix of "Catch You Baby" by Lonnie Gordon is pure 90's dance heaven. Hazell Dean's classic "Searchin" also gets the Almighty treatment. Johnny Rocks does a beautiful mix of Taborah's "I Am" and Wayne G's remixes of "Catch My Breath" by Kelly Clarkson and "Unbreak My Heart" by Toni Braxton are also stellar. Throw in a punchy Barry Harris mix of Whitney's "Love Will Save The Day" and the June 2020 edition of Pride Anthems is ready to move you wherever and however you choose to celebrate. Pride Anthems was formed out of mostly older Anthem-esc songs, and Junes Sessions Mix is more or less the Pride Mix of the summer. October Pride holds my fave songs over the past 12 months from all the past sessions & pride mixes that year - plus a few toss ins. The opening song has been updated to the fantastic Need Your Lovin' by Mathieu Koss, which heavily samples the early 80's one hit wonder Everybody's Got to Learn Sometime by the Korgis.  As we claw our way towards the end of the week, I thought I'd go ahead and post the final Pride Classics for 2016. Gay Anthems for a New Generation is quite a bit different from the last four circuit classics sets I just posted in that it focus' on the future while reaching into the past. It's intended to be a bit reflective with a lot of bouncy fun you'd expect from a Pride celebration. This set draws from future house hits of the past few years (What I Did For Love, Go All Night, I Got U, Real Love, Hustlin') to current hits like the fabulously funky Air Miles by Me & My Toothbrush and the disco hit taken from the HBO series Vinyl, Kill the Lights. Of course the big winners here are modern-day bootleg re-edits of Gloria Gaynor's definitive anthem I Will Survive, Diana Ross' proclamative anthem I'm Coming Out to Madonna's everyday celebratory Holiday. Sandwich these with plain ole fun modern twists of Shannon's Let the Music Play, Vicetone's Hawt Stuff (think Donna Summer), 2 B Real (think Cheryl Lynn), Daft Punk's Around the World and George Michael's Fast Love and you got yourself one big-ass Pride throw-down. I can't of no better way to wind this site down than with a new addition to the Pride Classics series.  It's been a long while since I originally posted the 5-set podcast, which I performed some minor updating to last year but it still needed more.  Bigger, better, faster ...HARDER! Things start off with Linda Eder's version of "I Am What I Am" from La Cage Aux Folles.  This song was/is a rallying cry for the gay community originally made famous by Gloria Gaynor in 1983.  Though I didn't use Gloria's version, a 2013 re-work of her other gay anthem "I Will Survive" does appear here and fits nicely with the late 90s early millennium vibe of this set. While the majority of these songs have appeared at one time or another in past sets, the one song I could never get worked in is the closing number.  The original Bruce Roberts, Elton John and Kristine W version of "When the Money's Gone" is one of my ALL-TIME favorites.  The only version of this song that exists is in a continuous mix; one for the Junior Vasquez "White Party Album" and the other from some obnoxious "Gay Anthems" mix album.  I was finally able to mix it in with the cold ending of "I'm Outta Love" and just added a blast sound effect for the cold-ending of the song that was about to mix into another song from which it was taken.  Not to go on and on about this but I'm tickled I finally got it to work.
