Pastor Seth Wetter teaches us, Nothing, But the Cross of Jesus and Him Crucified. From the Book of 1st Corinthians, Chapter 2. On July 7th, 2024 God's Word is Truth!
Facts Lies Mistakes & Pride: The last message in the series Learn Real Christianity from Scratch! available here https://firstcenturychristianity.net/from-scratch/ Learning topics of substance, especially something foreign or new, requires working through biases and pre-conceived notions. We are also required to be disciplined, patient, and methodical. I explain how to do this in this installment of the message. I also explain the incredible gravity of why we need to apply these virtues to arrive at the truth. Discipline is key. Society has great systems for arriving at truth and facts. From childhood, most of us were taught the Scientific Method. This is a recipe for challenging hypotheses until they pass enough tests to become Scientific Law. This method requires patience, discipline, and objectivity. The same virtues are required when we take up matters of law. Our judicial system is set up very similar to that of the Torah. Two or more witnesses are required to establish facts in the Bible, specifically facts about sin and law. In business, society has systems of standards like the International Standards Organization and the Six Sigma method of improvement. These systems, and their equivalents, are established similar to the Scientific Method. They drive us to challenge norms and constantly improve through methods established to unearth truth. Two big examples of how disregarding societal standards come from two instances. One is ancient and biblical. The other is recent and societal. The recent departure was the maniacal usage of hand sanitizer during COVID. Those who work in labs are trained, drilled even, to know how to respond to airborne pathogens. Hand sanitizer has no effect. Yet ALL of society's leaders in science disregarded their training at the drop of an emotional hat. The second centers around the mission of these messaged: Christ and Him Crucified. When the people had the Messiah executed, they emotionally disregard a foundation of the Torah. This foundation was part of their core identity: the law of two or more witnesses. They threw all they knew to be true out the window and had an innocent man executed, even shouting they had no king but Caesar. That sentence rejected YHVH as their true King and Yeshua as their Prince. This message, in video above and print at https://firstcenturychristianity.net/facts-lies-mistakes-pride/, shows you how to avoid being like these two groups of bad actors
In Corinth, Paul preached Jesus Christ and Him crucified. Many have fallen away from this today, yet we must continue on preaching this. The post Jesus Christ and Him Crucified appeared first on Calvary Chapel At The Cross.
Pastor Tommy bring us deeper in our series "Purpose & Passion," revealing what the primary message of our lives is as followers of Jesus: Christ and Him Crucified. One of the main reasons we have to keep the cross at the center of our life message is that the cross releases the supernatural grace of God into every area of our lives. The supernatural grace of God is an invitation – it brings us to the end of our own wisdom and righteousness in our own strength — to show us that our own power is absolutely inadequate in comparison to His presence and power.

We had the honor of having a special guest, Dr. Joe Purcell. He shared with us this analogy, “Like a lawyer, if you have a gap in your case, the opposing side will find it, and use it against you.” When it comes to knowing the Word of God, we need to know not only what it says, but what it means. And so take a listen to Dr. Joe as he breaks down the meaning in the Bible of where it says “Christ and Him Crucified”.“We help people win!” We want to help you get a 5 star rating in your life, whether it's through your marriage, your family, your job, or anything else.Did you receive Jesus today? Never Forget Christ, Him Crucified, On The Third He Day Did Rise, Ascended into Heaven, and on the right hand of the Father, he does reside. Before closing I will also share John 4:23-24 23 But the time is coming—indeed it's here now—when true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and in truth. We are, if we pay attention, surrounded by people -some people we know, and other, famous people- who claim to admire Jesus for His example, for His teachings, for the peaceful principles He modeled and instituted. At worst, these views of Christ are used to justify all sorts of sinful lifestyles and habits; at best, they simply miss the central point of Jesus's ministry. We are a week away from celebrating the resurrection; the sine qua non of the Christian faith. But interestingly, the apostle Paul wrote to the Corinthians that while he was with them, he was determined to know nothing but Christ, and Him CRUCIFIED. Why the emphasis on the crucifixion and not the resurrection? The answer to that question is at the heart of the difference between true Christianity and a powerless "admiration" of [some of the] teachings of Jesus. On this episode of the Scene Show Podcast, I look at the very foundation of our Christian faith: Christ and Him Crucified. Join us for this reflection from the first chapter of I Corinthians.
2 Clarifications Please accept my sincere apology. In my opinion, the last 5-10 minutes of this sermon (where I dealt with 1 Corinthians 3:1-4) was unclear and unhelpful. My goal in teaching is to always be the opposite. There were two main problems: (1) I said Paul's language in 3:2 was a reflection of the Corinthian's accusations against him rather than his own straight-forward words. This is a plausible interpretation asserted by various commentators, but I was/am not confident in it. As a result, I did not understand this paragraph well enough to teach it properly. (2) My explanation of “infants in Christ” and “milk and solid food” (especially in light of the merely plausible interpretation) was confusing. I've provided a somewhat clearer explanation below. (PDF)Humble and grateful for grace, Tim 1 Corinthians 3:1–4 But I, brothers, could not address you as spiritual people, but as people of the flesh, as infants in Christ. 2 I fed you with milk, not solid food, for you were not ready for it. And even now you are not yet ready, 3 for you are still of the flesh. For while there is jealousy and strife among you, are you not of the flesh and behaving only in a human way? 4 For when one says, “I follow Paul,” and another, “I follow Apollos,” are you not being merely human? ISSUE #1: “Infants in Christ” (v1)It is true that some Christians are less mature (like “infants”) and some Christians are more mature (like adults). We can see these two levels of Christian maturity in other portions of Scripture. However, in this text, Paul is not using “infant” in a positive way. Paul is using the word “infant” as a scathing rebuke of the fractured Corinthians in Corinth. In essence, he is saying “You are acting like INFANTS!” It's important to note Paul affirms that they ARE Christians (CH1 he affirms God's work and grace in them; CH2 he calls them “Spiritual People;” CH3:1 he calls them “brothers” and he says they are “infants IN CHRIST”). Although he affirms their status as Christians, he REBUKES them by saying their infantile actions of jealous, strife and division prove they need to be addressed as v1 “people of the flesh,” they are v3 “behaving in a human way,” and they are v4 “being merely human.” Those terms are a scathing rebuke referring to the “natural person” who operates according to the “wisdom of this age” that he just described in 2:6-16.CALVIN: “Babes in Christ. This term is sometimes taken in a good sense, as it is by Peter, who exhorts us to be like new-born babes, (1 Peter 2:2,). Here, however, it is taken in a bad sense.” ISSUE #2: “Milk and Solid Food” (v2)We should not derive from this text that there are 2 different kinds of spiritual food (or spiritual wisdom). Paul did not teach the “baby Christians” the Gospel and then teach the “mature Christians” something else, some deeper wisdom. In CH2, he just said “I decided to know nothing among you except Christ and Him crucified! There is ONLY ONE kind of Spiritual Food that Paul is speaking about here > Christ and Him Crucified (i.e. The Gospel). The Gospel is BOTH milk and meat. The point Paul is making is that the Corinthians wrongly wanted something more or different than the cross of Christ. The problem was not with Paul's teaching, it was with their hearing. The Corinthians were looking for a deeper “wisdom” that leads to deeper maturity. There is no such doctrine.ANTHONY THISELTON and Morna Hooker explain that “the contrast is not between two quite different diets” in the sense of elementary and advanced Christian doctrine (as in Heb. 5:11–14) but between “the true food of the Gospel … (whether milk or meat) and the synthetic substitutes which the Corinthians have preferred.” GORDON FEE: “For Paul the gospel of the crucified one is BOTH “milk” and “solid food.” As MILK it is the good news of salvation; as SOLID FOOD it is understanding that the entire Christian life is predicated on the same reality. Thus the Corinthians do not need a change in diet but a change in perspective. ...The problem, he insists, is not on his side, but on theirs. “I could not” (explain the cross as God's wisdom in mystery) “because you could not” (so understand it, given your “advancement” in the wrong direction). The problem, it turns out, is not with the message at all, but with those who had put themselves in a position so as not to be able to hear and understand what was being said to them.”CALVIN: “I have fed you with milk. Here it is asked, whether Paul transformed Christ to suit the diversity of his hearers. I answer, that this refers to the manner and form of his instructions, rather than to the substance of the doctrine. For Christ is at once milk to babes, and strong meat to those that are of full age, (Heb. 5:13, 14,) the same truth of the gospel is administered to both, but so as to suit their capacity.”

The great apostle Paul seems to have been the most uncomfortable in the city of Corinth when he was preaching the Gospel there. Corinthian society was base and ungodly. Yet Paul reached many people and even baptized the leader of the synagogue and his family. How did he manage to reach such a godless place? What was his message? Well, in the first letter to the Corinthians Paul tells us that he only preached "Christ and Him Crucified". How could this message relate to the godless pagans of Corinth? And can this message still carry power for our world today?

The gospel is about Christ and Him Crucified. It's not about us ,but the problem of sin and transgressions for all have fallen short of the glory of God. "Link on my BIO" ... in this "new world" governed by social media. everyone seems to be pointing people to their BIO or status messages. It is safe to assume that we only put things on our BIO that are important to us, or that we think should be important or beneficial to others. Whatever the case, our BIO is a place for displaces...of things that are important to us. PAUL'S BIO would read ... "I determined to know nothing among you except Christ and Him Crucified". That's all? Wow! Okay. BIO- what if our lives were molded to only reflect and present the things that have real and lasting value- Christ, the gospel, our love walk with others etc. What id our lives became BIOs that only reflected the finished work? This is what this series is about.
On this first episode on our Salvation series, we talk about the Gospel, the Good News - Jesus Christ and Him Crucified. You are loved, you are cherished, God created you; brokenness separated and separates us from God and each other; Jesus, God, became man and died to save, purchase, and redeem you; He calls us to repent and believe in the Gospel; be baptized and receive the Holy Spirit to live a transformed life in Christ, to truly become Christians; we live in His Body, the Church; and He sends us out on His same mission to proclaim liberty to captive, to set them free and to proclaim the Good News. We find in Jesus, the reality of our sin and the greatness of God's love for you. The Gospel is a royal decree of the true King, that our God reigns. Jesus is King, Head, and Bridegroom, and we cannot separate the King from His Kingdom, the Head from His Body, or the Bridegroom from His Bride, which is the Church. "Jesus, King of the Jews" - remember God's love story that is fulfilled in Jesus and His One, Holy, Catholic, and Apostolic Church. God is faithful. He is with you. He is for you. You are worth fighting for. You are worth dying for. You are eternally loved. I dare you to be the sort of person that Paul wanted to be here to the Corinthians. I dare you to be the person, of whom others say, “They told me about Jesus and Him Crucified. They said to me that I need to know Jesus and He crucified. They showed me a life of Jesus and His being crucified.” That’s what we’re called to be. While we pray for believing hearts and saved souls, because we can’t do anything about what the hearers do. What can do something about what the hearers hear, and the Cross speaks for itself.

Pastor Alan R. Knapp discusses the topic of The Mystery of Jesus Christ and Him Crucified in his series entitled The Doctrine of the Mystery. This is lesson number 12 and it focuses on the following verses: Genesis 28:10-17 among others.
Every Preacher worth his salt must preach Jesus Christ and Him Crucified. Satan is filling the church pulpits with preachers preaching prosperity, emotionalism, marriage, politics etc..... And folks who have not heard the Gospel of Jesus Christ are claiming they have been born again. Impossible-- Stephen preached Jesus Christ to the Ethiopian Eunich and he believed.
Philip didn’t preach a theology, he didn’t preach a personal opinion, he didn’t preach a pet doctrine or an issue, beloved he preached a person; he opened his mouth, and from the scriptures he preached JESUS. All faithful ministers, men sent of GOD, preach CHRIST JESUS and HIM CRUCIFIED; they don’t preach themselves—they are not men pleasers, they are your servants for JESUS sake. (2 Corinthians 4:5) Beloved, I pray that the LORD will ever enable me to open my mouth and preach to you JESUS. That through HIS undeserved grace, HE will ever make me to be your faithful minister of CHRIST. (Colossians 1:7)

This portion of the book of Acts goes right into the first days of the ministry of Saul. He begins where he will remain for most of his earthly preaching career, proclaiming Christ as the Son of God in the Synagogues in public worship. Of the many things we can learn from this passage one of the most important principles of the life of the church in outreach is that the message we give to the world is a simple one, that doesn't need fancy gimmicks or radical programs: Preaching Christ and Him Crucified. This eternal truth answers the real problem the world has.
What is important for a church to believe and practice? Also, what should a church not believe and practice? Paul reminds the Corinthian church of how he pastored and cared for them so they might be left seeing what is important in churches. In my final sermon at Foundation Church, I hope to simply echo Paul's reminders. Discipleship Questions: 1. Why is Paul intent on reminding the Corinthian church of the way he pastored and cared for them? 2. In what is not important in the church what point stood out to you and why? 3. What is the difference between worldly wisdom and Godly wisdom? 4. Why is “Christ and Him Crucified” indivisibly central to the Church? 5. Where is the power of God on display within Foundation Church?

We long for the day when there will be no more sin, no more pain, no more sadness, no more sickness, no more death, and no more disobedience to God for all of God's people. We desire heaven and to be with all of God's people and God Himself face to face. Our passion is for the New Heaven and New Earth when Christ returns to be full of the knowledge of the LORD as the waters cover the sea. This can happen because of the atoning death of Jesus on the Cross, and this is why, when we proclaim the good news of reconciliation with God, that we know nothing but Jesus and Him Crucified! Jesus died so we could live! Amen!

Deeper Christian Podcast • Episode 95 We often make things far too complicated (like ordering drinks at Starbucks). But the Gospel itself is simple enough even a child can understand it. In this episode, I not only talk about how to order one of my favorite drinks at Starbucks, but I use it as an illustration that we must keep the simplicity of the Gospel – which is all about Christ and Him Crucified. In keeping with our Identity in Christ...Nearly everything we are called to, as Christians, can and should be lived out in three basic actions: Worship, Evangelism, Discipleship. We are worshipers. We are messengers. We are learners/teachers. We all will take part in all these areas, but I think you are called to be specialized in one area. Once you realize your specific identity, you will know your primary call. The Church (We the Christian Collective) Is Like A Three Legged Stool...It of course, sits on the foundation of Jesus Christ - "The Word", yet...It's upheld by three legs of action and purpose... It creates, if you will, the 'seat' of Christ in the world.Worship is offering ALL to Him, not in a song but in a lifestyle... It's how we respond to God. Discipleship is Learning and Teaching the ways of Christ, His doctrine, and method... It's in effect the proper way to behave toward one another. It's a major part missing in the church today. We should be leading others in the ways of Jesus and making disciples out of them. Discipleship is the key to the continuation of the true message of Christ and the perpetuation of the faith. Evangelism is calling all Men (mankind) unto Repentance... Preaching Jesus Christ and Him Crucified. We are to go out into the world and proclaim His Good News. It is the life's blood of church growth. Each of these three components have scriptural urgency, and without them a ministry is incomplete and operating in disobedience. Once you know who you are in Christ, you will find your niche in one or more of these fields. Please join me in doing this to our wonderful and precious Savior Jesus Christ!

Faith is critical to living a victorious life. Yet, we succumb to doubt, which is often followed by discouragement, fear and their associates. This pulls us away fromGod's Presence and our healthy growth in grace and knowledge of Him. We are told in Heb 11:6a that without faith it is impossible to please God. What God has purposed for our lives is contingent on our believing Him. We have to be intentional about trusting God, against all odds! Then, we'll live fearlessly and we'll see how our faith in Christ and Him Crucified assures the victory in our ongoing warfare with the kingdom of darkness.
In the second sermon of this series, A Church United, Associate Pastor Chris Kottre teaches on how Christians are to have maturity, by never moving beyond the cross of Christ. In it, he challenges us to be reminded of what really matters - Christ and Him Crucified!
1 Corinthians 2:1-5 We should strive for the same ministry philosophy as the Apostle Paul: "Preach Jesus Christ, and Him Crucified."
Pastor Bob closes out the One Thing Series with an Easter Message about the "One Thing" that matters: Jesus Christ and Him Crucified.
What role does preaching play in today's church? The Rev. Dr. Jonathan Master joins Carl Trueman and Todd Pruitt to talk about the importance and gravity of preaching. Through the book "Preaching & Preachers" by Dr. Martyn Lloyd-Jones, they show the necessity and primacy of the proper preaching of the all-sufficient Word of God. John Haggee wrote a book called "in Defense of Israel", where he says that Jesus didn't come to be the Messiah, that the Jewish people can't be blamed for rejecting what was never offered to them, and that the Jewish people are still saved under the old covenant. So we're making this program "in Defense of Jesus", because Jesus most emphatically is the Messiah. Listen to this one, it's important stuff, as the Gospel always is important.Questions asked:Is Jesus the Messiah? What happens to the Gospel when Jesus isn't the Messiah? What's worse; Killing 6 million Jews? Or refusing to preach Christ and Him Crucified to them?
The Morality Wars Of all the movements in Christian History, none have compared with the rampant Moralism that has taken root in our churches today. Where the true central article of the faith was once Christ and Him Crucified, and even such statements as Christ alone is central to all of our faith and practice used to be the norm, there has been a slow shift towards making our deeds central to our faith rather than our creeds. Where once the confession was that we believe in Jesus Christ, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, Suffered under Pontius Pilot, was Crucified, Died, Buried, and risen on the third day, the church at large has all but abandoned this simple proclamation in favor of what is seen as “Good Christian Morals”. Indeed, this is the message that is too often proclaimed instead of the cross.
