Elliot poem, The Waste Land. The poem was inspired by the real-life experience of Ernest Shackleton — an Irish explorer who went on a near-death expedition in Antarctica in 1916. After their ship got trapped in ice, he and two other members of his crew made a 36-hour long trek across the Arctic, over mountains and glaciers, to a whaling station. During that time, several members of his three-man team — Ernest included — kept feeling like there was a fourth man alongside them. T.S. Elliot wrote this stanza inspired by that phenomenon: What is the cause of the third man syndrome? No one really knows what causes third man syndrome. Many people claim it is a hallucination or coping mechanism triggered by extreme stress while others believe it is help given by a guardian angel. What is an example of the third man phenomenon? Examples in the book The Third Man Factor by John Geiger include a solo sailor who believed an unseen companion steered his ship through a storm, a woman in a collapsed building who reported a monk gave her an apple, a solo mountaineer who believed he was roped to someone else and thus descended a peak cautiously. What is the third man syndrome in Christianity? There is a phenomenon that many people who found themselves in survival situations have experienced. The phenomenon? It's something referred to as the "third man factor", where a person finds that even though they are physically alone, they feel a presence by their side. A new study reveals that these sorts of hallucinations -- sometimes called ``third man syndrome'' -- are more mysterious than scientists previously thought, since the visions cannot be fully explained as a side effect of altitude sickness or the brain swelling that frequently accompanies it. What is the third man syndrome in car accidents? ``Third Man Syndrome'' is the phenomenon in which people hear, see, or feel the presence of an additional person who isn't actually there comforting, supporting, or saving their lives during emergency situations.   Stories of the internet. When my husband was in his 20s, he fell asleep while driving and crashed into a telephone pole. He was hurt and remembered a teenage kid knocking on his window and telling him he called the police and not to get out of the car because there were live wires everywhere. When my husband was finally rescued, there was no sign of the kid. The police said that no one had called them — they just came because the power was out. Not only that, but they said there was no way anyone could have gotten close to the car on account of the wires, and if my husband had tried to get out of the car, they probably would have probably killed him. My husband so vividly remembers the kid, he believes he was real, but his mom believes it was his guardian angel." —Anonymous "I was dancing with my friend at a foam party, which is where they hang a machine from the ceiling that dumps TONS of bubbles onto the dance floor. The foam was super deep under the machine and the floor was super slippery because of the soapy bubbles. My friend slipped into the foam and I fell down to the floor, under the bubbles with her. When I tried to breathe, it was like I was drowning — the foam filled my lungs like water. I couldn't open my eyes, my feet and hands kept slipping so I couldn't stand up, and no one could hear us choking and screaming over the music. I was slipping all over on the floor holding onto my friend's shirt. Just as I thought we were going to drown in the bubbles, someone pulled us up. It was as though we'd been lifted or pushed, because there was no way anyone could have grabbed me by the arm. I was way too slippery — Heather and I couldn't even hold hands, our skin was so slick. I was lucky just to hang onto her shirt." "We came out of the bubbles, choking and gasping, covered in soap, clinging on to each other. When I wiped my eyes clear, there was no one there except the other people dancing around us. They were all oblivious to us, though — they didn't even know we had fallen and no one had seen anyone pull us out nor did anyone ask us if we were OK! There was a monumental discovery in Labrador waters yesterday. The Royal Canadian Geographical Society announced they've found The Quest, a sunken ship made famous by renowned explorer Ernest Shackleton. We hear from expedition lead John Geiger.

John Geiger began his love for music and drumming at an early age and spent his early band years playing 80's rock on the Sunset Strip and later moved on to country and classic rock. John pursued his music passion by creating a multi-decade career in the music product industry. John has spend over 30 years working in this industry with iconic brands such as Yamaha, D'Addario, KORG USA and Zildjian. John currently plays in the Scotty Mac Band who's regional success led to opening slots for national touring acts like Brett Young, Tyler Farr, Phil Vassar, Lee Brice and Chase Rice. The band performs at festivals around the country including Night in the Country, Country Fan Fest, Oregon Jamboree, Country Thunder, Coastal Country Jam among others. In 2016 McLaughlin released his first EP Messin' Around which was followed in 2018 with a sophomore album Starts With A Girl, both recorded in Nashville. The band won California Country Association's Entertainer of the Year in 2017. Today, fans can see the band playing in Nashville at bars such as Tin Roof, Winners and Ole' Red. "When you're doing what you're supposed to, everything clicks." Davin is a designer, artist, and co-founder of the clothing brands Premium Co. and Diet Starts Monday. Raised by his mother in Madisonville, Kentucky, Davin grew up in a trailer park, and would often struggle with his identity. Dealing with issues of race and wealth, Davin would find himself escaping through worlds of skating, basketball, and drawing. But it wasn't until after high school, when he would fully tap into his creative side. Influenced by legendary painter, Bob Ross, Davin began to hand paint t-shirts and sell them to all the DJ crews, rappers and artists throughout the music scene. Gully Originals was born and would last for six years, as Davin committed to laying the foundation of his entrepreneur path. Soon expanding to graphic design, and creating mixtape covers, Davin was becoming one of the most sought out artists among the community, with his name and reputation spreading fast. His ability to evolve and continue to create would lead him to expand to jewelry, and soon combine forces with Tyler Hundley to organically create Premium Co., and later join together with John Geiger to form Diet Starts Monday.Davin believes in the long term of brand building, embracing the right and wrong decisions that lead you to where you need to be, and looking at life like a ladder, with every step as a step up. Davin Gentry is a creator and artist who is the co-founder behind both Premium Co and Diet Starts Monday. Even with seeing himself on a billboard in Los Angeles, having hundreds of people waiting outside of his store or taking pictures with fans, it all feels natural to him because he feels he’s doing what he’s supposed to be doing at the time he’s supposed to be doing it. Growing up in Madisonville, Kentucky he was embarrassed as a kid to admit he lived in a trailer park with his mother and would get dropped off blocks away so his friends wouldn’t know. One of his early passions was basketball which was what kept him focused and out of the streets. Finishing up high school he attended community college for a year and a half and then transferred to Western Kentucky and majored in Advertising. After graduating he sold hand painted shirts for six years until he and Tyler Hundley got Premium Co off the ground in 2011. A text conversation with designer John Geiger about only working out in order to fit into designer clothes led to the launch of their clothing line Diet Starts Monday in 2017. Incorporating the idea of procrastinating diets, they launched what was planned to be a 3 month pop-up event that turned into a full year round operating restaurant and retail space in Washington, D.C. With a recent collaboration with Five Four, they’re just getting warmed up with what has yet to come for the brand.
