The Channel Islands x Al Merrick 'Pod Mod' is a classic performance fish surfboard that helped revolutionize the shorter, wider surfboard shape towards what exists today. The original 'Pod' first came out in 2000 (23 years ago!) and has since been seen in all lineups. The Pod was later frankensteined into the Pod Mod in the Summer 2015 by the team at Al Merrick, and the epic fish shape with swallow tail turned up the performance a notch. Now the board was shorter, wider, and thicker. I've had a Pod or Pod Mod in my quiver for as long as I can remember, with numerous lengths of the board (5'6, 5'10, 6'2). The Torq Surfboards X-Lite version was also brought to market in recent years. In this surfboard review, I showcase a recent session with the 6'2 Torq version of the Pod Mod. Dimensions Length: 6'2" Width: 21 3/8" Thickness: 2 3/4" Volume: 40.5 We see how this beefier version rides - comparing the epoxy material to the PU. We also explain the pros and cons of the shape itself, and why it's become a fan favorite. I'm riding the Channel Islands Torq Pod Mod X-Lite as a twin, with Deflow Arin Fins and a rear Naked Vilking Surf (NVS) stabilizer. The Pod Mod has been with me everywhere, from Australia, to Indonesia, to Panama (shoutout Red Frog Bungalows) Thanks Surfline for the footage, plus Kevo & Rota for providing their shred skills during second half of the video. Thanks for watching this Hero's Journey Episode 127 About the Channel Islands Pod Mod: In 2000 the original Pod rapidly became a global favorite, allowing surfers to drop six inches off their shortboards and revolutionize punting. The Pod Mod design is a heavily modified Pod, designed to be ridden even shorter and wider than the original, catering to the surfer that wants a little more volume forward to catch waves but doesn't want to sacrifice performance. The tail has been widened for small wave glide, and the original single to double concave has been replaced with a flat entry to concave vee for quick rail to rail transitions. Experienced surfers ride this board 3”- 6” shorter than you are tall. About Torq X-Lite Surfboards: X-Lite is a Torq Epoxy technology developed specifically for performance boards. This is lighter, stronger and more Eco than a traditional PU/Polyester board, now with a 50% thinner Shield Skin for weight reduction. We're continuing our series on how marketing is changing and new approaches you can take to more effectively connect with your audiences and prospective clients. Two weeks ago, I kicked off this series on how we're ditching the traditional hero's journey framework for marketing and how here at SYB we're approaching marketing. Last week, I talked to Cara Steinmann about relationship marketing and strategic collaborations. Today, I'm excited to have on the podcast Wendy Kendall, who is a Chartered Psychologist and a co-founder of The Self Led Practice, the health virtual workplace for independent mental health practitioners. I invited Wendy to come on the podcast because a few months ago she shared a post on LinkedIn about what she calls “regenerative marketing”, a framework she developed to better serve her clients. (You know we love frameworks!) I was intrigued because it aligned so well with how I was thinking about a better approach to marketing. I have a huge light bulb moment towards the end of our conversation, so be sure to listen to the end. Wendy and I talk about: Why traditional marketing approaches didn't sit well with her or her clients Pain points and problems = why so many of us don't like to lead with this in our marketing and what to do instead What “regenerative marketing” is How Wendy approaches her marketing, including on LinkedIn The huge light bulb moment I have when Wendy mentions “survivor bias” in the context of social media marketing About My Guest: Wendy Kendall, Chartered Psychologist, and co-founder of The Self Led Practice, the health virtual workplace for independent mental health practitioners. Wendy has over twenty five years of experience in working as a psychologist, having started her career as a military psychologist for the British Army before building her own practice. She is dedicated to creating innovative and empowering opportunities in mental healthcare, where practitioners, clients and businesses all flourish. Wendy is recognised as an industry leader in entrepreneur coaching and is a sought-after speaker and trainer whose passion is helping independent therapists and coaches to become successful entrepreneurs. Notes:This exploration of comics is a brief exploration of a diverse and far-reaching genre. It's not meant to be exhautive, but to touch on the vast landscape and a little of what we've found and enjoyed. There's so much out there and we'd highly recommend exploring what might be for you. Here are some articles and videos that we found helpful in preparation for this conversation:- MasterClass Article “7 Tips for Writing Your First Comic Book”- Alison Learning At The Primary Pond - Writing Lessons “4 Writing Skills To Teach Using Comic Books As Mentor Texts” Fable references Pixar's 22 Rules of Storytelling. Here is a link:https://mastersreview.com/tips-pixars-22-rules-of-storytelling/ The Verbivore mentions hearing Todd Mcfarlane, the creator of the comic Spawn, speak at Phoenix Fan Fusion/Comicon. One of the recommendations he gave to artists is to consolidate their stories down by having their art contain the element of movement in it, to avoid images that feel static. The crazy comic we mention that feels like a blender of ideas, including a cop and dinosaurs, is called “Axe Cop”.The Verbivore references the visual elements and story hook in the opening scene of the noir film Sin City based on the comic of the same name. Please note that this film in general has graphic violence and disturbing images, but not in the first scene. A video clip can be found on YouTube under “Sin City opening scene”. This is your permission slip to rest. Hibernate. Rejuvenate. To be what might feel like lazy, even though it's actually simply your body, mind and creativity recharging. And if you're listening to this in real time, it's February 1st when this is coming out and I want to remind you that if you haven't yet accomplished everything you wanted to for the entire year in the past 30 days, IT'S OK. There's time. Breathe. Slow down to speed up. And sometimes, slow down just to slow down because you're allowed to and what you accomplish in a day or a week or a year isn't what makes you worthy as a human being. Honour the seasons of your life. They don't always come on our schedule, but you can decide to welcome them, recognizing their impermanence and accepting them as they arrive. When we accept the seasons, you'll find that even the tougher seasons feel just a little bit more manageable - and you realize you're always planting seeds that are preparing to bloom. This episode did not go as planned.Originally, it was supposed to be our final conversation with Dad-to-be, Dayne, before his baby girl was born...but that baby girl had other ideas! So, since she came a few months early, we held off recording this until this new family had time to settle in. In this episode Dayne and I chat about his first few months being a dad, what it's like having a child in NICU for a few weeks, and how proud he is of his burping skills - all while listening back to his voice notes of what he experienced.Remember, you can get Dayne's expert help for your child's education here: https://edugrow.co.za/Before you listen to this episode of A Father's Journey, make sure you know the back story by listening to episode 1 and 2!~Listen to A Father's Journey Episode 1 Here~~Listen to A Father's Journey Episode 2 Here~Subscribe to Ask AfroDaddy:Apple Podcasts: bit.ly/AskAfroDaddyonApplePodcastsGoogle Podcasts: bit.ly/AskAfroDaddyonGooglePodcastsSpotify: bit.ly/AskAfroDaddyonSpotifyStitcher: bit.ly/AskAfroDaddyonStitcher

"It took me my entire life to get here." That sentence in regards to how and what to charge stopped me in my tracks when I was listening to a coaching call with my coach Rachel Rodgers' team weeks ago. Today we're digging into: Not having the kind of impact you want if you aren't charging appropriately You as a human being are invaluable. No price tag can be attached to that. Examining the transformation you provide for people and charging accordingly. Catching yourself if/when you start to judge the wealth of others, and why that's so important. What happens when you under-charge, and why resentment is one of *many* side effects.
