In a recent episode of "Hidden Killers With Tony Brueski," defense attorney and podcast host Bob Motta provided insight into the Karen Read trial, highlighting the complexities and questioning the prosecution's ability to prove intent for second-degree murder. Motta discussed various aspects of the case, including the credibility of witnesses and the unusual methods used for collecting evidence, such as a leaf blower, which has sparked debate over its appropriateness and potential impact on the integrity of the evidence. Key Points from the Conversation: - **Questioning Evidence and Intent:** Motta expressed skepticism regarding the prosecution's presentation, noting a lack of concrete evidence to prove that Karen Read intended to kill, a necessary component for a second-degree murder charge. - **Witness Credibility:** The credibility of firefighter Kate McLaughlin was a focal point, particularly how she described her acquaintance with Caitlin Albert. Motta highlighted how the defense is trying to discredit her testimony because she heard Read allegedly confessing. - **Evidence Collection Critiques:** The use of a leaf blower at the crime scene was discussed, with Motta questioning its effectiveness and appropriateness, suggesting it could compromise the evidence. - **Jury's Perception and Defense Strategy:** Motta pondered the defense's strategy and its potential impact on the jury, especially considering the unconventional evidence collection methods and the challenges of establishing intent. - **Overall Case Observations:** Motta remains unconvinced by the prosecution's argument and is interested to see how they attempt to solidify their case as the trial progresses. #KarenRead #BobMotta #HiddenKillersWithTonyBrueski #DefenseDiaries #TrialAnalysis #LegalStrategy #EvidenceCollection Want to listen to ALL of our podcasts AD-FREE? In this episode of 'Hidden Killers With Tony Brueski,' psychotherapist and author Shavaun Scott discusses the ongoing trial of Karen Read. The conversation focuses on the various witnesses, including first responders and friends within Karen Read and John O'Keefe's social circle. The defense is attempting to cast doubt on the circumstances surrounding John O'Keefe's death, suggesting possible conspiracies and motives rooted in minor community disputes. Scott offers insights into the dynamics of small town relationships and the psychological pressure witnesses may feel under intense scrutiny. The episode also explores the portrayal of connections between witnesses, particularly firefighter Kate McLaughlin's responses about her acquaintance with Caitlin Albert, questioning the credibility of her testimony based on perceived inconsistencies. In this episode of "Hidden Killers With Tony Brueski," Tony hosts Robin Dreeke, a retired FBI Special Agent and behavioral analysis expert, who discusses the ongoing Karen Read case. The focus of the discussion is the credibility of witness statements, specifically addressing firefighter Kate McLaughlin's testimony about her relationship with homeowner Caitlin Elbert. Dreeke explores how language and behavior during testimony can suggest distancing rather than deceit, and he also delves into how crisis situations can impair a person's ability to provide accurate statements due to emotional stress and confusion. The conversation highlights the potential for misinterpretation of statements made under duress and the impact of perceived relationships on legal defenses. Main Points of the Conversation: - **Credibility of Witness Testimony**: Dreeke discusses how witnesses may linguistically distance themselves from subjects they know casually, which can be mistaken for lying. - **Impact of Crisis on Statements**: The conversation covers how extreme stress or trauma can distort how witnesses recall and report events, potentially leading to unreliable testimonies. - **Analysis of Defense Tactics**: Dreeke evaluates the defense's strategy to undermine McLaughlin's testimony by alleging she perjured herself about her acquaintance level with Elbert. - **Misinterpretation of Crisis Statements**: Emphasizes the danger in taking immediate post-crisis statements at face value without considering the psychological state of the witness. - **Legal and Psychological Insights**: Provides insight into how emotional responses can be misconstrued as confessions and the importance of psychological expertise in court cases. #KarenRead #KateMcLaughlin #CaitlinElbert #RobinDreeke #HiddenKillersWithTonyBrueski #WitnessCredibility #CrisisPsychology Want to listen to ALL of our podcasts AD-FREE? In this episode, Stryker welcomes Bishop Briggs to the Tuna on Toast studio. Bishop Briggs surprises Stryker by letting him and the world know she is engaged to Landon Jacobs from Sir Sly! This episode is filled with so much emotion! It starts out with Bishop Briggs talking about new music, the album is done, she's been working with Zakk Cervini! Bishop Briggs talks about how tough the last year has been, the toughest anyone can imagine after losing her amazing sister Kate McLaughlin to cancer. Kate was so much more than just a sister as you will hear. Bishop talks about how this heartache does not match any other types of heartache. In this Bishop Briggs interview, Stryker asks about Bishop's move to Los Angeles at 17 years old, her time at The Musicians Institute, and her experience opening up for Coldplay before she had an album out! Bishop tells a very touching story of playing Red Rocks Amphitheater and having a spiritual experience especially during the song "Someone Else". Bishop Briggs is beyond talented and strong. She is also such a great person! There is so much to take in! Sit back and enjoy, thanks for watching and supporting Tuna on Toast with Stryker.

Long time no see! We are so thrilled to be able to record again! It has been a hectic number of months since our last episode, but we are so thankful for everyone's patience. The two of us love this podcast and we never want to record and produce if it is going to bring stress, so we focused on school for the past couple months and did not allow one of our favorite hobbies to become stressful! Now, we are so excited to be back. Today's episode is our favorite episode yet! In an interview style setting, Kate McLaughlin interviews and engages in an amazingly productive conversation with Kate Truong who shares her experience growing up and being Asian American (specifically Vietnamese-American). Kate opened up in this extremely vulnerable and emotional discussion sparked by the recent influx of xenophobia and hate crimes since the pandemic. Thank you endlessly Kate for opening up in hopes it would empower other Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders during this tragic time. We hope you enjoy and thank you for supporting Lift Up Your Crown! You can find us on our Instagram, @liftupyourcrown, or on our person accounts, @katemcl16 and @katetruongg. Zoom? Google Meet? Masks the whole time? Whatever you're doing, it is new and difficult for both students and teachers! We have slightly varying opinions when it comes to hybrid learning and we sat down to discuss these differences and what works for each of us. After this conversation, Miss M, Kate McLaughlin's older sister joined us to provide a teachers perspective and give some wise pieces of advice. We hope this episode provides some validation and offers some guidance that you could benefit from. We are getting through this together! We once again want to extend virtual hugs to everyone for being so patient and understanding with us as we figure out how to juggle Lift Up Your Crown with junior year. This novel was written in 1899 it shares the struggle of a woman coming into herself, her mistakes and her passions. The song I share was created on Abelton and also titled The Awakening and was inspired in part by this book. Here are some quotes from the book: She was becoming herself and daily casting aside that fictitious self which we assume like a garment with which to appear before the world. She had all her life long been accustomed to harbor thoughts and emotions which never voiced themselves. It was not despair, but it seemed to her as if life were passing by, leaving its promises broken and unfulfilled. Yet there were other days when she listened, was led on and deceived by fresh promises which her youth had held out to her. One of these days, she said, I'm going to pull myself together for a while and think - try to determine what character of a woman I am, for, candidly, I do not know. By all the codes which I am acquainted with, I am a devilishly wicked specimen of the sex. But some way I can't convince myself that I am. I must think about it.
