In this week's episode of the Teach Different Podcast, hosts Dan and Steve Fouts, along with special guest Jarvis Funches, unpack a powerful quote by Confucius: “Before embarking on a journey of revenge, dig two graves.” They explore the meaning of the quote and discuss how revenge impacts one's life from Jarvis's unique perspective, shaped by his time in prison. They emphasize the importance of self-control, setting boundaries, and seeking wisdom from teachers. Jarvis shares his personal journey of transformation and the role his son plays in keeping him on a positive path. So... you think you can remake a classic horror movie. That's what Michael Bay thought, anyway, when his production shingle Platinum Dunes embarked on a new adaptation of Jay Anson's tale of mayhem on Long Island. Citizen Kane the 1979 Amityville Horror may not be, but it holds a special place in the hearts of horror fans worldwide. So who's to blame for the mess that is the 2005 version? First (and last) time director Andrew Douglas? Frequently shirtless Ryan Reynolds, miscast as axe-wielding George Lutz? Or screenwriter Scott Kosar, who picks up a surprise nomination this week for the Michael Myers Award? Whatever your take is on this misbegotten footnote in the annals of horror history, we had a blast discussing it with Gretchen McNeil, back for her 5th episode, and the second in our Amityville mini-exploration. Due to some technical issues, the quality of some of the audio is below our standards. Apologies. What's that, by the side of the road? Is that a... vomiting nun, played by star of stage and screen Irene Dailey? And what's that, up in the sewing room? Is that a... priest covered in flies, played by Oscar-winner Rod Steiger? However you feel about it, there's no question that Stuart Rosenberg's O.G. THE AMITYVILLE HORROR (1979) is an iconic launch of a never-ending franchise, one that's produced more clunkers than most—but which seems to have legs like no other. With '70s icons Margot Kidder and James Brolin along for the ride, plus plenty of ferrofluid and a requisite microfiche scene, we don't need to be told twice to GET OUT. Joining us for the first of two episodes is our pal, YA horror author extraordinaire Gretchen McNeil. Hey, who doesn't love a party? And what's better at a party than a good party game, especially one that involves grasping the hand at the end of an embalmed arm, and intoning the words, “Talk to me.” For the full effect, you say the words, “I let you in,” allowing yourself to be fully possessed by whatever lies beyond the spirit realm. It's terrifying, sure, but it's also a total rush, provided you keep it under 90 seconds. For Mia, it's a welcome distraction from a rough year. She recently lost her mum for reasons unexplained, and her bestie Jade's little brother Riley keeps tagging along with them to parties. Jade and Riley's mum is concerned the kids might be into something nasty, like pot, or booze. Little does she know, the kids are into something much worse, much more addictive, and when one of their games goes too far, all hell breaks loose, unleashing spirits best left undisturbed. After surviving a torrential Nor'easter that rips parts of his home and adjoining properties to shreds, Bridgton, Maine resident and graphic artist David Drayton, his son Billy and wife Steff notice a strange fog rolling in on the lake behind their house. After confirming that his boathouse was crushed by neighbor Brent Norton's old tree, a source of old resentments, David gathers Billy and Brent into his jeep and heads into town for supplies. Upon arrival at the local supermarket, The Food House, into which half the town seems to have crammed, it becomes apparent that the mist is no longer on the lake: in fact, it's now is at the doorstep of the supermarket. Inside the store, we meet a gaggle of characters: Ollie Weeks and Bud Brown, the store's co-managers; Mrs. Carmody, a god-fearing woman who's convinced that Man has brought shame and disgrace upon the world; feisty old Mrs. Reppler, who's not a fan of Mrs. Carmody; locals Jim, Myron, Hattie, and Ambrose; and Dan Miller, whose frantic first appearance in the store heralds the danger to come. Originally a short film by Wisconsin filmmaker Hunter Adams entitled JAKE'S CHOICE, the 2014 film DIG TWO GRAVES was an interesting take on a number of subgenres of the thriller and horror genres. Was it a ghost story? Was it a voodoo tale? Was it a cultist film? Or was it really just a thriller? Either way, the movie was did the festival circuit until it finally arrived at theaters in limited release in early March 2017. When a little girl named Jake sees her brother drown at a quarry, she blames herself for his death. As she walks home one day, a group of gypsy men make a deal with her saying they could bring her brother back if she has another lose their life in his place. Knowing the son of her father's enemy has a crush on her, she begins to weigh if killing another would give her peace if her brother indeed returned to her. As an artwork almost all critics felt the movie was a very impressive gothic thriller. Generally the story was also enjoyed by most. With its low profile, DIG TWO GRAVES was overlooked by many on its initial release, but with a reappearance on Shudder TV, it has gained a new audience. A patreon pick for Dark Discussions, your co-hosts take a look at this very interesting film and give their thoughts.
Gary, Terry and Graham return for another plunge into the deep waters of the Roger Moore James Bond Universe. In the episode we turn our gaze to the 1981 down-to-earth antidote to Moonraker: For Your Eyes OnlyThis film marked something of a changing of the guard for the production team and this may explain its lack of confidence. However, there is plenty of fun to be had in spite of some of the more cringe-worthy scenes you'll find in the Bond franchise.Download the MP3 or listen to this episode or on the player below. Chatting With Sherri welcomes author Hend Salah about Dig Two Graves?! Hend Salah is a New York born, horror loving, mental health counseling, loud-mouthed mass of contradictions. She has a cornucopia of sensibly insensible, controversial opinions, and is allergic to romance. She loves putting a dark twist on a good argument. Bad things are funny. “She was sitting on a cold concrete floor, gagged, bound, and blinded. Nothing but a stale silence encompassed her. A putrid smell emanated from something to her left, sending her into a fit of coughs. It was so strong that she could almost taste it. It filled her mouth and nose, feeding her senses a disgusting smell created by something — or someone — that had been left alone to rot. She imagined a corpse sprawled just beyond her feet. It’s face having decayed so intensely that facial features were no longer visible; wounds festering soundlessly as insects found refuge inside them: skin hanging off its feet and toes with mutilated nails; skull crushed almost entirely, neither discernible as male nor female.”
Host Cyrus Webb welcomes author Hend Salah to #ConversationsLIVE to discuss her book DIG TWO GRAVES.

Hunter Adams is an independent filmmaker with his movie currently available on itunes. It is called Dig Two Graves. A bit of a horror/suspense movie about having to pay a price to bring someone back we have lost. Sounds like an interesting film. Hunter discusses the importance of building your fanbase to launch a film. It is nearly impossible to simply be found in the vast sea of new releases and noise. This sounds very familiar to nearly every Kickstarter project owner who is wondering how they will get backers for their project. Take and listen and go check out Hunter's movie.

Episode 55 of One Week Only! This week our key film is the Czech period drama "I, Olga Hepnarova," based on a true story of a troubled young woman who took out her anger at the world in a horrifically violent crime. Starring Michalina Olszanska (co-star in "The Lure" earlier this year) in a brilliant lead performance, and directed by Tomás Weinreb & Petr Kazda, this is a striking film that presents a complex, unsettling character in a stark film with no easy morality or answers. Now Playing in New York at the Village East Cinema. (41:45) The science-fiction drama "Bokeh" opens today in select theaters. It stars Maika Monroe & Matt O'Leary as two American tourists in Iceland who wake up to find that every other human in the world has disappeared. (10:45) We interviewed directors Geoffrey Orthwein & Andrew Sullivan about the genre of minimalist science-fiction and making an indie film in Iceland. (59:00) We also review the horror comedy "Prevenge" written, directed & starring Alice Lowe (16:30); small-town mystery thriller "Dig Two Graves" directed by Hunter Adams (24:40); and food & culture documentary "In Search of Israeli Cuisine" about Israeli-American chef Michael Solomonov, directed by Roger Sherman (37:30).
