I describe it as a hernia on the eye because it bulges out, causing distortions like double vision, glare, and halos. This can severely impact daily activities like driving at night." (04:23) (Dr.Brian) "For parents with keratoconus, it's crucial to have your children checked starting around age nine. There's a 15% chance they could develop the condition, and early detection with corneal topography can prevent significant vision loss." (12:00) (Dr.Brian) "For more advanced keratoconus cases, we use what I call biologic Intacs, or KeraRing segments. These are made of corneal collagen and can be much thicker than traditional Intacs, providing more flattening and better vision improvement." (34:12) (Dr.Brian) “The Visian ICL is a life-changing procedure for treating high levels of nearsightedness. It involves placing an insertable lens behind the iris and in front of the natural lens, significantly improving vision and often eliminating the need for glasses or contact lenses." We all know that keratoconus is very highly associated with eye rubbing. But in general, the widely held belief has been that keratoconus is just associated with eye rubbing, one of multiple factors that leads to the condition. But have we gotten it wrong? Is eye rubbing not merely associated with keratoconus, but actually the sole causative factor of keratoconus? Has there been a huge blind spot in our basic understanding of keratoconus development and progression? Dr. Damien Gatinel joins the podcast.

Dr. Clark Chang is a cornea and keratoconus, KC, specialist at Wills Eye Hospital in Philadelphia and the Director of Global Medical Affairs at Glaukos. Keratoconus is a disease of the eye where tissue thins and gradually bulges outward into a cone-like shape.  While changes in the cornea are small, vision becomes very blurry, and the underlying cause may be overlooked. Glaukos has introduced the iLink procedure, a minimally invasive outpatient procedure to slow or halt the progression of this disease and help patients preserve their vision. Clark explains, "It is associated with age, but it's in the different group of people than most of your audience is thinking. We're very familiar with conditions like age-related macular degeneration. Everybody knows that because it's very impactful to one's vision, and the fear of loss of vision has frequently been rated as one of the top one or two biggest fears in a person's life. Most diseases are age-related in that they can occur with time. This disease more commonly occurs during puberty or in younger patients."    "In order to be able to diagnose this condition, especially at an early stage when there is an extremely small amount of change in the alteration in the shape of the cornea, you really need sophisticated diagnostic technology that we usually call topographer or tomographer. Basically, it maps out the shape of the cornea, either just at the front or front and back of your cornea. Being able to, in a more sensitive way, figure out whether or not there's any small amount of area that's becoming misshapen more than what a normal cornea or tissue would look like." #Glaukos #Keratoconus #iLink #CornealCrossinglinking #EyeHealth #KCAwareness #LivingwithKeratoconus #EyeDisease #Cornea  glaukos.com Download the transcript here

Another week in the books. Between the honor of being on others' shows this week and a busy travel week, it is has been a doozy! This Monday, I am back on the #AutoHubShow. They may have to start charging me rent! We are coming to you this week from west cost and the 801...that is Utah for those that don't travel a lot and somehow don't have area codes stashed in their memory! I never grow old of the Wasatch Mountains.  What is Keratoncous? No, it is not Brooke-ish, but I applaud you in your guess! In 2008, I had a corneal transplant. With any transplant, one will forever have a lifetime relationship with their doctors. Every six months for the rest of my life I see them. Even though I live in Chicago, the best of the best are in UT, so I fly to here. $$$ = YesThis got me thinking about our trade, our industry. Don't we want our customers to be lifetime customers? What are we doing to ensure this? Are we meeting their expectations and their expectations of us?Are we treating those loyal, VIP customers as that VIP OR letting the relationship become lackluster? Would customers or our employees follow us wherever we go? Are our employees masters are what they do: both at the personal level and technical level Is mutual response shown? Do we provide a reason to NOT leave/shop elsewhere? Do the know they are #1, or better yet not a number?! Are we under promising and over delivering or the other way around? Are we continually keeping the customer updated throughout the process, even if that is, “hey I haven't heard back but didn't want you to feel alone in this.”  Do we do what we say we will do? What is expectation vs reality? What are you doing at your store to ensure lifetime customers keep coming back?Sales vs Fixed Ops Shootout Show: https://lnkd.in/eAFDkMwTConnect with BZ Consultants: https://qrco.de/bcqqFoFollow, subscribe, and never miss a show! #BZConsultantsGroup #BZConsultants #FactsNotFeelings #FactsNotFeelingsFriday #LifeTimeCustomer #ExpectationVsReality #VIP #Keratoncous #UniversityofUtah #MoranEyeCenter #JohnMoran #MasterofOurCrafts #InvestInTheBest #Carllage #Positivity #Patience #BeKind #PersonalDevelopment #CustomerExperience #Consultant #Podcast #automotive #CarConsultant #AutomotiveConsultant #CartTalk #CarDealership #WomenInAutomotive #womeninbusiness #automotivemarketing

So, this procedure probably has one of the longest track records in all of medicine.” (04:13) (Dr. Brian) “The laser [for LASIK] is so gentle that if I were to put my hand under the laser, it's not gonna hurt me or burn anything. Each pulse literally removes just a fraction of tissue. That's why it's so precise in sculpting the cornea.” (05:18) (Dr. Brian) “For people who have near vision problems that are reading with reading glasses, we do something called Fortified CK, where we use a little probe that applies heat spots. And then we actually have a little bit of crosslinking right at the very end to reinforce those spots. I even did that on my wife and she is still talking to me all these years later.” (11:24) (Dr. Brian) “With LASIK, your head will not be clamped down. If you look away, the laser will turn off. You will never be alone in the room. And, even if you're thirsty, you can never get water because there's no water dispenser in the room. And, also the laser is a gentle laser; it will not burn your skin.” (00:00) (Dr. Brian) Resources MentionedDM Dr. Brian your questions and we will respond back with answers - https://v.cameo.com/F5MH0Hglnmb (https://v.cameo.com/F5MH0Hglnmb) https://www.boxerwachler.com/ (Dr. Brian's Website) https://www.tiktok.com/@brianboxerwachlermd? The weather is starting to turn, all sports are in full swing, and there seems to be a light at the end of the tunnel of winter!  What was your biggest takeaway from my conversation with Andrea Amico, Founder of Privacy4Cars? Did you know that if you are in wreck that your data could be extracted as it is not protect?  I would like to challenge not only our industry, but all industries, to look inwardly and focus on  and improve their customer service and processes. Right now our customer database is eroding underneath us and too many are focus on the short game. See the long game. If one can see the bigger picture and take care of not only their customers and treat them with stellar customer service, but their competitors, they will win over and over again.   Follow Andrea on LinkedInLearn More About Privacy CarsDownload Privacy4Car AppFollow Privacy4Cars on LinkedInFollow Privacy4Cars on Twitter: @Privacy4Cars Follow Privacy4Cars on Instagram: @privacy4cars Follow Privacy4Cars on FacebookEnjoy and don't forget to subscribe, share, comment, and rate the show.
