On this Easter Day, from the all on the C&SI teams we wish you and yours every blessing of this Blessed Day!On this weeks podcast excerpt we are delighted to welcome back our old friend Noirin Lynch to share with us some thoughts on Easter, hope and resurrection. Speaking from her experience of living with and getting treatment for cancer for the last 12 months it is from that experience she shares with our listeners how the language of life transforms our experience and understanding of Easter. But even more so at the moment we have a need for the language of Easter to pull us out of the doom spiral of despair in the world. It is a reminder to us that "Easter is a protect against despair", it is not enough for us to say that Jesus has risen from the dead but rather we live in a post Resurrection world and that should make a difference. Reflecting on Kim Rosen's poem "In impossible darkness" Noirin gives us some deeply moving and thoughtful words to reflect on for this Eastertide. Text us at +353 874668950 or email at comeandseeinspirtaions@gmail.com

And in today's episode, we speak with poet and performer and teacher Kim Rosen, who will guide in thinking about the opposite–how we might let go of our creative identities as we age, and why that is essential work. Kim Rosen, M.F.A., author of Saved by a Poem: The Transformative Power of Words, has awakened listeners around the world to the power of poetry to heal, awaken and disarm individuals and communities. She is a poet, spoken word artist, ritualist, and guide of inner exploration. Her current passion is weaving poetry, music, teaching and self-inquiry to invite us to turn towards aging, death and letting go. Her upcoming Fall audio release,  Feast of Losses, is a collaboration on the same theme with cellist Jami Sieber. She is the co-creator of several recordings of spoken poems and music and her writing has been published in The Sun Magazine, O Magazine,The Texas Review and Spirituality and Health Magazine. In 2007, she spoke a poem to a group of Maasai girls in Kenya who had fled FGM and Early Childhood Marriage, and that moment became the seed of the Safe House Education (S.H.E.) TTB 201: Composing an Album on a Cross-Country Train Trip Cheryl B. Engelhardt is a composer and songwriter. She's toured all over the world, had music in over 40 tv shows and commercials, performed on stage with Sting, and was recently featured in People and Forbes for her social justice choral piece “The Listening”, featuring Martin Luther King Jr's goddaughter, Donzaleigh Abernathy. “The Passenger” is Engelhardt's seventh album, a follow up to her first two best-selling and award-winning New Age albums, “Luminary” and “A Seeker's Slumber”. This week we speak with Engelhardt, who composed and produced “The Passenger” while on a cross-country train trip, the first person ever to create an album on a train. She did so just two weeks after her best friend passed away from cancer. The trip and the creation process was one of grieving, healing, gratitude, and rest. The album features GRAMMY-winning and GRAMMY-nominated soloists who provide a decadent layer to Engelhardt's carefully composed ambient beds. The all-female-produced album was mixed by Engelhardt and mastered by Kim Rosen of Knack Mastering.  The Travelers Blueprint is an indie travel podcast where each week we like to bring you insight from travel authors, adventurers, conservationists, digital nomads, tour guides, and through our own personal experiences. Movers Shakers and Social Changers

I have always been a poetry lover and yet Kim Rosen's book, 'Saved by a Poem,'  has dramatically deepened my relationship to poetry. This touching conversation with Kim echoed within me for days after. Kim describes poetry as, 'the power of the word meeting the language of the soul.' In an uncertain world, 'Saved by a poem' is an emphatic call to cultivate the ever renewable resources of the heart. Through poetry Kim believes, the unspeakable can be spoken, the unendurable endured, and the miraculous shared. I encourage you to find a comfortable and quiet place to listen to this conversation where we share poetry from Rumi, Mary Oliver, Leonard Cohen, Stanley Kunitz, Marie Howe, Emily Dickenson and Jason Shinder. Enjoy the heart opening ride!

In this episode, I talk about my the spiritual and deeply healing process of writing poetry over the last year, what I am learning from it, and share some of my deeply personal poems with prompts so you can write with them if you want to. Writing poetry has become a deep listening practice in silence and slowness and not knowing. It is mysterious and fascinating to me, how the words collect and assemble themselves into something that speaks so profoundly to what I have experienced in a way that I cannot touch in normal conversation. It is truly a magical and mystical process. I mention an amazing book by Kim Rosen called, "Saved by a Poem: The Transformative Power of Words." I love this quote by Pablo Neruda from his poem, "Poetry" that reads, “Poetry arrived in search of me." Come & See Inspirations

On this weeks programme, Noirin Lynch joins Shane and John to reflect on how things are at this moment in time. As always, Noirin leads us through some thought provoking and often slightly different way of dealing and how do we find hope in the midst of so much change? Sometimes its tempting to insist that a familiar prayer or line of scripture MUST make sense of it all – but of course we are in unfamiliar times, so old usual’s can be great but can also be useless. And that’s ok. What matters is that we connect with God, not how we connect in this strange new time!"How are you? Several people spoke to me last week about how it special Holy Week was – a real sense of journeying down into the tomb – and how hard it was to feel the usual joy of Easter, the sense of resurrection. A friend said she felt down in a small dark place still. And I was reminded of the Lasaux caves in France where explorers one day found themselves in small underground caves, dark and dull. And someone raised a torch and found that prehistoric artists had drawn the most beautiful and amazing images of animals and hunters all around the roof in beautiful colours. Totally surprising everyone - in this dark place, beauty was all around. Is it possible to find God in the darkness, in the dullness? Can there be beauty here?Kim Rosen has a stunning simple poem about the caterpillar moving into a cocoon. Before I read it, can I tell you that when a caterpillar forms a cocoon, it has no intention of becoming a butterfly. Slowly in the darkness the cells of the caterpillar began to vibrate and change, and when enough cells vibrate, the caterpillar liquifies and begins to reform in this new way – a weak, vulnerable butterfly that will need to push the blood through its wings as it squeezes out of this tight space. Kim Rosen writes:Do you know howthe caterpillarturns?Do you rememberwhat happensinside a cocoon? You liquefy. There in the thick blackof your self-spun womb, void as the moon before waxing, you melt(as Christ didfor three daysin the tomb)conceivingin impossible darknessthe sheerinevitabilityof wings.I am reminded of the apostles leaving Jerusalem to walk home, by Emmaus. Men who had made a huge commitment to Jesus, who had left normality and followed hope. Men who found their hero knocked, rejected and even shamed with crucifixion. Men who tried to make sense of it all as they walked. Men whose heartbreak was vibrating out of them in waves of hurt – and their dream liqueifying. What sense could be made of it all? I wonder why didn’t Jesus interrupt them and just tell them the answer … as the women had already? Surely they only needed to hear from him and it’d all make sense. Yet he didn’t rush them – he let them speak, listened, offered possibilities, allowed them time in this dark place, this cocoon of disappointment.Rebecca Solinit is an American writer and had a lovely article this week about fairy tales and living in the now. She reminded me that, in her words, ‘Nearly all of us would like to be at the end of the story, because to live in the middle of it is to live in suspense and uncertainty about what will happen.’ Isn’t that so Emmaus! Jesus stayed with them in the middle of it all, the ending was not guaranteed. Isn’t that what these weeks are like – if we only knew the ending of the story it would be so much easier!God is present in the groceries delivered, in the cowslip in a corner, in the phone call, in the soft pillow or strong support. If its hard to find God in the extraordinary, its ok to find God in the ordinary – that is the work of poets. See the beauty, celebrate the beauty, call it hope!I’ll finish by sharing where I found God in these weeks – in good people. Ordinary people who were kind or gentle or positive. Signs of Hope and Healing. Moments of joy and of peace. I wish you all this.

Mastering engineer Kim Rosen joins me on the show this month. Kim is the owner and operator of Knack Mastering in New Jersey, and I've had the pleasure of working with her on a number of projects. She first came to my attention through the band I play in, Birds of Chicago, when we were mastering an acoustic record that I recorded. Kim had also recently done stellar work on a number of Joe Henry and Ryan Freeland productions that I had been immersed in. I thought it would be interesting to hear a bit about mastering, both conceptually, and technically, as well as how someone's career path led to this somewhat misunderstood, but incredibly important role in the recording process. We also talked about developing equipment under the name Whitestone Audio with her husband. Enjoy my conversation with Kim Rosen and please subscribe to the podcast!

Carly Mountain is a teacher and writer who works with poetry, yoga, breathwork and voice as transformational practice that can liberate us in ways we never anticipated. She is the creatrix of the Butterfly Mystery School which is home to circles of women who wish to deepen relationship with themselves and their natural abundant expression. Carly is also author of Jouissance ~ poetry of the deep feminine. She is based in Sheffield, UK where she lives with her husband and two daughters.   Carly started dancing at 4 years old. She trained at the Laban Centre She pursued yoga and went from her first class to teaching within 18 months Graham technique had helped to release stuckness in the pelvis. Created by Martha Graham, the approach was inspired by Kundalini yoga, moving energy through the body Yoga is very much about the practice, compared with dance as a performance Pregnancy yoga with Uma Dinsmore-Tuli The Butterfly School includes yoga, poetry, breathwork and creative enquiry Butterfly - mudra practice Searching for a place where emotional work could exist alongside the physical expression Craving female support and recognising other women must be craving it too The perception that we “should be looking for a calm place inside ourselves” Kim Rosen uses free movement, breathwork, poetry and freeing the voice to give rise to whatever is there Being able to be with all the realms of expression Without fully expressing, we’re lidding an essential part of our being All emotion is welcome, all emotion is valuable Grief and rage are huge connectors Saying yes and no from the body Consent ripples through our lives - being programmed to respond quickly. Taking a pause Permission to rest Listening to our cyclical wisdom The Autumn (less tolerance for putting up with things) and Winter (hibernating and resting, going inwards) phases of the cycle. How easy it is to push these phases away, but there’s a renewal that comes from dropping in to resting Women supporting women is nourishing Often we don’t know we’re safe until we’ve taken a risk Remembering who you are and letting go of what you’re not Oxytocin is released when sitting with other women in circle Poetry as a powerful tool Intimacy as “going into the unknown together” ‘Blurt write’ to allow the pen to flow on the page Moonbox for a young girl before she has her menarche to celebrate and share this stage instead of shame and fear Jouissance, Carly’s book of poetry to celebrate the fullness of womanhood Extinction Rebellion is calling people into their eldership A new intake of The Butterfly School starts in January 2020 http://carlymountain.com/sheffield-yoga/womens-health-sheffield/   What If...? What if it had been the Mother, the Daughter, and the Holy Spirit? How different might things of be then, if women only had their natural limits? Blood revered as a super power, as beautiful and welcomed and earthly as a flower. Childbirth, if chosen, a sacred rite of passage. Midwives as holy women. Crones as the wisdom cup. A sisterhood, a sisterhood. Nature as Queen and ageing as a privilege.  What if it had been the Mother, the Daughter, and the Holy Spirit? When you see Kim Rosen on stage performing poetry, she exudes a distinct sense of certainty. But the truth is that for a period of her life she suffered from a particular type of fear that was profoundly painful. Her prayer to be released from it's confines would be answered two different times. And both times that grace came in the form of a poem. In the end, Kim’s story wasn’t about making her fear go away. It was about meeting it and doing life anyway, in a most extraordinary way.
