Welcome to February, leader—my favorite month of the year! As I celebrate nine years in business and prepare to launch the most soul-aligned movement I've ever created, I'm reflecting on the lessons that have shaped my journey. One of the biggest? Sustainable growth doesn't happen by accident—it happens by design. That's why, this week, I'm bringing back one of our most downloaded episodes from 2022—because the principles still hold true today. Compensation is more than just a paycheck; it's a tool to build trust, retain top talent, and create alignment between your team's goals and your business's future. But too often, business owners approach it with short-term thinking, leading to margin loss, disengagement, and ultimately, turnover. In this episode, we're unpacking: Why most comp plans fail before they're even presented. The risks of overpaying upfront and losing profitability over time. A strategic approach to compensation that attracts top talent, incentivizes performance, and aligns with long-term business success. You'll hear insights from my conversation with our KLC financial partner on why every plan should be custom to your business and how to approach compensation as a tool—not a magic bullet—for building trust, loyalty, and value. Compensation isn't just about numbers—it's about strategy, sustainability, and setting your business up for long-term success. Whether you're hiring your first employee or restructuring an existing team, this episode will challenge you to think differently about how you reward and retain top talent. Tune in now to gain the insights you need to make smarter compensation decisions that drive growth, engagement, and profitability. Let's build businesses that thrive—by design. With the 2024 presidential election right around the corner, there's a lot of emotion and uncertainty in the air. But I'm here to tell you that preparing for the future isn't about knowing what's coming — it's about how we show up today. In this solo episode I'm sharing my personal perspective on navigating this chaotic landscape and how I'm guiding clients at KLC to stay centered in times of flux. We'll cover three core areas: understanding the energy of what's happening around us, my predictions for consumerism in our AI-driven world, and tools you can use to navigate both personally and professionally through these turbulent times. If you've been feeling that everything around you is buzzing with nervous energy, you're not alone. There's a lot of noise, and sometimes it feels like the only sane choice is to slow down and focus on what really matters. I'm reminded daily that in a high-paced, AI-powered world, the true differentiator is connection. In fact, I'm betting that while AI speeds up transactions, real success will come to those who slow down and build genuine relationships. Staying committed to your craft and being grounded can help you navigate through the stress and maintain resilience in business. Because while we can't control what tomorrow brings, we can choose how we show up today. In this week's Fierce Factor episode we are going to explore a self-reflection of who you are as a leader of your business and team, and how that dynamic  impacts your aspirations as a thought leader. I chose this topic for today to speak to the deeper depths of thought leadership for female entrepreneurs.  Because what I have found is that thought leadership often “sounds sexy”, looks attractive on social media, and can be quite fulfilling to the ego AND to the bank account.  And honestly, being a thought leader allows the creation of tremendous impact in the world. But there's also a responsibility that comes with elevating yourself into a thought leadership role. And that is something that is often overlooked. Thought leadership isn't just about thoughts. It's about having someone to lead, guide, and influence.  And while an obvious part of developing our thought leadership is seeking new stages to stand on, let's not neglect the very system that allowed us the freedom to explore and expand in the first place. As it relates to the work we do at KLC, that means tethering a line to your beautiful business and team. I'm this session we will explore five potential landmines that could detour your thought leadership ambitions, and my hope is that by recognizing these often overlooked mis-steps, you can devise a plan that supports both your quest for evolving as a thought leader AND the engagement, buy-in, and support of your employees. This week's Fierce Factor podcast episode kicks off a brand new series leading into our upcoming 3-day boot camp coming up on Jan 29-31st where we will be teaching our 3 part framework for developing your thought leadership, personal brand, and market visibility. And if you are a female business owner who is even thinking about HOW you are going to show up and lead with your most dynamic presence in 2024, save the date for our boot camp and get excited because you are really going to enjoy the next 6 weeks of programming from KLC. I've worked with some of the most brilliant minds on the planet whose messages become diluted by the big stage pay-for-play speaking opportunities in which their personal message is just lost, or their own insecurities around stepping onto a bigger stage. And there's no reason for that. It's time for change. There are too many women who have something profound to say, are Inspired, provocative thinkers, and they just  aren't busy talking about trends, but are quietly investing in building the market where those trends will exist. That's true thought leadership. Over the past several years I have seen a rise in ambition of women around the globe to expand and expose their voice to a broader audience- to create meaningful change in the world through their message, and to gain credibility and recognition for the trailblazing work they are doing on a daily basis. And that's why the obvious place for us to place our focus is cultivating this thought leadership on a deeper level.  Taking these women from the place of leadership within their organizations to unleashing their authentic leadership onto any kind of stage they so desire. This week we will kick off the series with a bonus replay of one of my most highly requested episode topics: “How to become a more dynamic communicator”. Because whether you signed up for it or not, leading a business and team is a job that requires you to access your most dynamic executive presence and communication skills. Enjoy! Happy new year, WELCOME to 2024! It's likely that you are doing your own visionary planning and clarifying objectives to really get centered around your priorities for the season of growth you are in this year. I can't emphasize enough how critical it is to be working on the RIGHT activities in your business. The aesthetic industry has experienced a lot of tailwind over the past couple of years with the post pandemic wellness surge, a great economy, a piqued interest by private equity investors, and an onslaught of demand for aesthetics in general. But going into 2024 we are already seeing that economic cycle changes are going to impact the passive growth that so many aesthetic businesses have experienced. Businesses with strong positioning, infrastructure, and team are going to literally steal marketshare this year because of the investments its leader has made around business readiness and sharpening their emotional leadership through times of adversity. And that's really our schtick over here.  We want to help our clients master the agility and prowess of leading through all seasons. Our agenda as a company this year is to help our clients master the building of a great company from the inside out because this is what it takes to experience sustainable, joyful growth. We are going to teach the market how to give your brand staying power- where clients will stay longer, spend more money, and tell more people about you. In this episode, I am sharing with you how KLC can be a partner catalyst to help you absolutely freaking dominate 2024.  Whether your goal is to rebuild your business model, scale up, or develop your personal brand and thought leadership- we have you covered. In this week's bonus episode of The Fierce Factor podcast, I am re-sharing an unedited (insider) discussion among our POP leadership academy led by our practice management strategic growth advisor, Justyn Green. Quite often our clients come to us at KLC to leverage our team's experiences as an industry reps and managers and together we prep to guide them through the decision making process of bringing in new products lines, services, and energy based devices into their practice; Justyn and I agree that at the end of day working in allegiance with industry can be hugely beneficial to helping aesthetic practices advance their goal of driving more utilization of procedures and products.  And there is an art to establishing partnership goals early with a manufacturer when you sign on to distribute their products (this includes toxins and fillers). As a former leader of a multi-million dollar medical & wellness spa in CA, Justyn shares her insights from her tested and validated experience working alongside industry vendors to leverage their expertise, resources, collateral, and support in aligning with business growth goals. This episode is jam-packed with practical tips that you do NOT want to miss- everything from getting more samples from reps to co-marketing with industry, to power pearls for negotiating when you're ready to invest in your next device. Heads up that this is not a scripted episode but a very special internal training session within our academy so you'll hear questions and contributions from other members as they are sharing best practices with one another. I hope you enjoy this session as much as I did and that you gain a ton of knowledge hearing from the experts in the trenches. The aesthetics sector is outpacing other sectors in growth, and women are driving this growth. Yet, women remain underrepresented in business. Today we welcome Kaeli Lindholm, CEO and founder of KLC consulting. Kaeli has a background in working with manufacturers of aesthetics, and she is passionate in helping women like herself who could have used the type of support she now offers when she first started out. There is a new paradigm in the aesthetics industry, and success does not mean just high revenue anymore. Women entrepreneurs are driven by impact, building fruitful and supportive relationships, and job satisfaction. The way that women choose to operate their businesses in today's society is different from the past. Their excitement resonates in the service they provide, not simply the revenue they bring in. This is where the concept of “disruptive philosophy” comes into play. It is the ability to think critically and creatively when problem solving, and to come up with new solutions to old problems. Growth is just doing more for the business, which has limits. Scaling is increasing revenue without spending more time and energy. Being able to scale your business will give you a measure of success that constantly giving all your time and energy to the day-to-day never can. Evolving your business requires evolving yourself. Having system management tools is important in order to scale, but what is even more vital is becoming the person who can take their business to the next level. The curiosity and desire to learn how to be a great leader is a great indicator that you are ready to take the plunge to set your business up to scale. On this episode we're joined by Justyn Ashlee Green, a former client turned colleague. She's now the Strategic Growth Advisor and Director of Practice Management at KLC, and has always felt naturally drawn to working in this industry. In 2020, she got the opportunity to go into a six-week bootcamp and was introduced to me on the first day. There are so many capable and intelligent business owners out there, but many of them lack the resources they need to reach the level of success they desire. Hiring an expert who knows how to build the business can completely transform the way you run your business in the best ways. Even if you're fully capable of running everything in your business, you have to ask yourself if this is where your time is best spent. It is so beneficial to have someone else running critical aspects of the business so you can focus on being the CEO and creating a vision by which to lead your team. One of the things Justyn has noticed about practice managers is that all the best ones claim they would rather do it themselves. However, they acknowledge the importance of delegation and efficiency. Another important part of the Practice Manager role is having the ability to anticipate the needs of both the practice and the owner. If Justyn could go back in time, she would invest more time communicating with others and less time taking on tasks blindly. At times she felt stressed out, overwhelmed, and unappreciated, but she takes accountability for putting herself in this position. This is why she emphasizes the importance of checking in and leaning on people. Practice Management is a big job, but no one expects you to do it without boundaries or on your own. This Q&A episode recorded from an Instagram Live is the perfect opportunity to learn more about KLC Consulting, who is the right fit for Confidence to Scale, and why we are the preeminent leader for helping female business owners catapult past their next million-dollar milestone. Today, I'll tell you what to expect if the application process shows that we'd be a great fit. There is so much nuance behind what it takes to build an aesthetic practice. Business coaching and consulting in this industry is fascinating. In general, very few women in business scale past $1 million. However, in aesthetic, the majority are. There's tons of general data and information available around building a thriving small business, but there's a gap for helping women scale above a certain point. Scalable, women-owned businesses in aesthetics are under-resourced and underserved, which is where KLC comes in. It's for women who reach a point where they understand the basics of getting people through the door, and they're ready to take their business to the next level by building without overwhelming themselves. A leader who has clarity on direction is a leader other people want to follow. But, in order to step into that, you have to pull yourself out of service and delivery and become a visionary leader. When you work with KLC Consulting, you get the opportunity to really look at yourself in the mirror and identify what's holding you back. Investing in yourself is investing in your business. The act alone of putting the work in to better yourself will change your mindset in a way that orients you towards growth. If you feel like you don't have enough time, that's all the more reason to engage in the process. You will learn how to create that space, which is necessary for you to take your business to the next level. We're continuing the series featuring incredible leaders in our space, and today that person is someone who has truly orchestrated the symphony of what KLC is. We're welcoming KLC Business Coordinator Shannon Sanchez. Shannon and I originally connected through their son's baseball teams. Shannon happened to be looking to get back into the workforce after prioritizing being a stay-at-home mom for a few years. She came in to organize the back end of the business and start putting some standard operating procedures in place. Shannon has taken over direction for project management, backend customer support, as well as downstream and outstream organization. Finding a mission-driven employee like Shannon is what every employer dreams of. You can find those people by focusing on who they are rather than solely on their experience and skills. In her time at KLC, she's enjoyed being around women—internally and externally—who lift each other up. There's a genuine willingness to encourage one another's success. Women who lift each other up love watching the people they work with increase their confidence. Remember that it's not only the big shifts that count, either. It's important to celebrate the little things as well. In order to create a thriving work environment, Shannon emphasizes the importance of communication, especially when it comes to conveying the mission and desired impact of the business. She also demonstrates that our workplace needs to be a safe place to make mistakes and learn from them, and that it's also necessary to have some fun along the way.   Download your copy of our freebie: The DNA of a mission-driven employee Watch the podcast video on YouTube Book a Strategy Call with Kaeli Join the KLC Consulting Mailing List The Fierce Factor Society on Facebook KLC Consulting Website Kaeli on Instagram Kaeli on LinkedIn

Bill Dieruf - Louisville, KY, Republican Mayoral Candidate, 2022 Mayor Bill Dieruf is in his 12th year as Mayor of the City of Jeffersontown, where he has overseen a police department, public works, an economic development authority, parks and recreation, and all other city services. He instituted the WOW customer service approach to city operations that he used during 35 years operating Dieruf Hardware, the longest-operating family-owned business in Jeffersontown. Mayor Dieruf has had many accomplishments during his three terms as Mayor. He used his business acumen as an accountant to eliminate Jeffersontown's $17 million debt. He renegotiated the debt, paid it off 11 years early, saved $1 million in interest, and did not raise taxes to do it. Mayor Dieruf served as president of the Kentucky League of Cities for two years, including during the pandemic in 2020. That year he visited almost 200 cities across the state, helping his fellow mayors navigate the complicated process of filing for CARES Act funding that kept those communities financially sound. Before he served at KLC, Mayor Dieruf was president of the Jefferson County League of Cities for five years and remained immediate past president. In addition, he serves on the Kentuckiana Regional Planning & Development Agency board and is the organization's past chairman. For 12 years, he has been a board member of GLI and the Jeffersontown Chamber of Commerce and has served on the Campbellsville University Visitors Board of Directors since 2011. Mayor Dieruf was a member of Leadership Louisville's 2020 Bingham Fellows class that studied the Digital Divide, concluding it is imperative that affordable Internet access, training, and hardware be available to all Louisville households so all residents can thrive. A native of Louisville, Mayor Dieruf was raised in the Hikes Point neighborhood and graduated from St. Xavier High School. He earned his bachelor's degree in accounting from the University of Kentucky. Mayor Dieruf and his wife, Jody, reside in Plainview. They have a daughter, Jennifer, son-in-law Ben, and two grandsons. Mayor Dieruf says his grandsons are one of the reasons he chose to run for Louisville Mayor because he wants to make sure our city is where they will be proud to call their home.

In this week's episode of The Fierce Factor podcast, I am sharing an unedited (insider) discussion among our POP leadership academy led by our practice management strategic growth advisor, Justyn Green. As the leader of a multi-million dollar medical & wellness spa in CA, Justyn shares her insights from her tested and validated experience working alongside industry vendors to leverage their expertise, resources, collateral, and support in aligning with business growth goals. Bridging Factions While Leading without Authority with Julia Fabris McBride

On this episode of the On the Balcony podcast, Michael is joined by Julia Fabris McBride today to discuss the eighth chapter of Ron Heifetz's book, Leadership Without Easy Answers.  Today the pair reckon with the idea of leadership as it functions without authority.  McBride is an actor, author, and President and CEO of the Kansas Leadership Center (KLC). In her work with KLC, McBride strives daily to foster civic leadership and create stronger and healthier Kansan communities.  In doing so, she must engage with different factions, their values, and opinions.  It can be hard fulfilling an authority role, especially when those you lead have differing versions of success.   But as McBride says, progress happens when we embrace diverse opinions, understand one another, and come to decisions for the common good.  It's also challenging when holding an authority role that confines you to an organization's code of conduct and job description.  Many people, though, go beyond those informal expectations and duties and do what they aren't authorized to do.  Take some of history's greatest changemakers for example:  Gandhi, Susan B. Anthony, and Martin Luther King acted without authority, asking the provocative questions, and influencing society to think differently.  They did, but only because these trail blazers had the courage to make waves in domains where they weren't always welcome. Thanks to their ability to practice leadership without authority, we all benefit greatly from the  progress they inspired. The Finer Details of This Episode:  The difference between self and role  Working across factions  The “risk” in practicing leadership without authority Working across factions in rural communities in Kansa  The value of diverse perspectives  Having the courage to fail Leadership case examples around abortion and LGBTQ rights Quotes:  “What I loved about this framework, from the very beginning, was the idea that there's a distinction between role and self.” ‘The Kansas Leadership Center's mission is to foster civic leadership for healthier, stronger, more prosperous Kansas communities. And our vision is a civic culture in Kansas and beyond that is healthy and prosperous.” “In fact, many people daily go beyond both their job description and the informal expectations they carry within their organization, and do what they are not authorized to do.” “He's just talked about how leadership without authority has been the domain of women for a long time. And he's starting to get into examples of people like Rachel Carson and Gandhi and Susan B. Anthony and Martin Luther King, who exercised leadership beyond the scope of their authority.” “Even if you're the board chair of a nonprofit, you're having to deal with governance issues and nominating the next slate of officers. But if you're, you know, if you really don't have any authority, you can ask the dumb question or the provocative question.” “Progress [happens] when we understand each other…Progress is a civic culture that's more able to make decisions for the common good.” “I encourage people to speak their mind, to ask hard questions, to stretch beyond their comfort zones. We need people who have the courage to say this is what I care about.” Links: On the Balcony on Apple Podcasts:https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/on-the-balcony/id1627073051 ( https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast) Leadership Without Easy Answers on Amazon:https://www.amazon.com/Leadership-Without-Answers-Ronald-Heifetz/dp/0674518586 ( https://www.amazon.com/Leadership-Without-Answers) Julia Fabris McBride with KLC: https://kansasleadershipcenter.org/team/julia-fabris-mcbride/ (https://kansasleadershipcenter.org/team)  The Kansas Leadership Center: https://kansasleadershipcenter.org/team/julia-fabris-mcbride/ (https://kansasleadershipcenter.org/) Julia Fabris McBride on Twitter:...

Hello leader, welcome to a very special surprise episode of the Fierce Factor podcast, it's Kaeli here and I decided to plug in an extra episode this week to take a couple of minutes to share with you details of an upcoming virtual event that I will be hosting next week because this might be just what you for your business right now. It's always team building season over here. And we have quite a few clients who are in the process of hiring new staff to support their next level of growth. I don't know about you, but one of the biggest challenges our clients face when it comes to hiring is the “ramp up period” that's required for a new employee to get properly trained on the tasks of their new job, integrate with the existing systems, and adapt elegantly into company culture- all while making an immediate impact for the business. If you're a regular listener to the show you've heard me talk about stacking the bench or what we refer to in our POP Leadership Academy as “ABR” always be recruiting. And it sure seems like there is plenty of guidance out there to help you find great people. But what I've noticed is no one is talking about what to do when you DO find a great employee! I talk with my recruiter friends all the time about how perfect of a fit a candidate may be for a business, but most business owners lack systems to help employees onboard quickly to make immediate, actionable impact in their practice. And when you're an aesthetic or wellness provider with a fully booked schedule, you need a team who can plug in and contribute instantly. So how do we set our new team members up for lasting and sustainable employment all while optimizing their impact asap? Believe it or not, this process starts before the candidate is even hired. And I am going to share the KLC playbook for rapid business growth through team building in our Hire for Immediate Impact masterclass! Next week on Monday July 25th I will share the single most transformative and practical lesson I've learned through my time as a sales director in corporate america, through building my own 7 figure income-producing team, and by supporting hundreds of high growth aesthetic practices around the globe through this process. This Masterclass is an exclusive, one time, interactive course- limited to applicants who are ready to enroll their next high performing team member and cross the next million dollar milestone in their business with ease and deep fulfillment. Join me as we blow open the team building vault to get super practical about high impact hiring in 2022! Leader, It's time to stop tolerating the frustration of poor performance, behavioral issues, and the discomfort of "people drama" by creating a high impact hiring plan that will catapult your business TODAY! In this this powerful 60-minute session, learn to: 1- Magnetize your next high-performing team member 2- Set your new employee up for immediate, profit-producing impact 3- Leverage top talent to inspire company culture Register asap at https://www.klcconsultants.com/masterclass *PS- Mark your calendar! Live attendees will receive our Interview like a vixen master course and candidate grading rubric, with compliments (a $297 value) Ok leader, if you plan to hire this year or in the near future, you don't want to miss this FREE event. I recently saw a mom of three kids chasing her toddler around while carrying a baby during her oldest son's baseball game. The experience took me back to the days of raising my now 10 and 13 year old boys, and the realization that they have really grown up and the way I parent and interact with them has taken a 180 turn. Not only have they changed, but so have I! And gosh, raising kids through the developmental stages of life is so much like raising a business. Who our business needs us to be when it's a baby business is dramatically different from its requirements as it matures. Today's Fierce Factor episode is all about raising a business to embrace the entrepreneurial experience.  And we will discuss this journey in 6 distinct phases.  We will talk about the key experiences during each stage, some of the challenges a business in each stage may be experiencing, and the exciting rewards that come with each stage of growth. Enjoy! Xo- Kaeli If you aren't sure if you have the tools in place to scale your business head over to our quiz at www.klcconsultants.com/quiz.  You can take this for free, fill out some information and answers to scenario-based questions to reveal if your business is at a stage of growth that will allow you to build a deeply satisfying business that will stand the test of time and maturation. We have created our programming at KLC in 3 distinct phases to walk you through these stages I shared in this episode. Follow the links below to learn more: Step 1 Blueprint- this is where we help you build the framework for where you would like to be positioned in the marketplace, identifying a gap, building your marketing strategy, and designing your proprietary method  - we do this through our Proprietary Aesthetic Method tool or via our PAM workshop Step 2 is Vision- this is where we help you define your mission, vision, and values. We help you build the confidence to scale, set boundaries, and learn how to show up as the CEO you are meant to be to cross the next million dollar milestone in your business.  Remember you can't parent your 13 year old like you did when she was 2.  We do this through our CTS program or Confidence to Scale 6 week business growth certification program Step 3 is Capability- Hand delivering the tools to bring your business along this journey of growth from infant to mature adult.  We break this step into 5 distinct milestones over one year in our 12 month comprehensive POP Leadership Academy where we will support you with the resources, guidance, and coaching, community, and empowerment to execute on your vision. PS- If you are even remotely considering what it might be like to work with me and my team in any of our programs please head over to klcconsultants.com and fill out a contact form application.  We will set up a call to make sure there is a fit.  If not, we will help steer you in the right direction to help you succeed in step with your own timeline and budget. With an influx of private equity seeking investment opportunities in our booming industry, one current hot topic among aesthetic providers is “how do I prepare my business become attractive to a buyer”? Most of the time our clients start their businesses with no thought of their end game. They are following their passion, living out their mission, making a transformative impact on their patients. In this week's Fierce Factor podcast episode I would like to introduce what we at KLC refer to as a “champagne exit” through a powerful case study of Jamie Kern Lima- entrepreneur, philanthropist, keynote speaker and co-founder of IT Cosmetics, a company she started in her living room and sold to L'Oréal for $1.2 billion. In this episode, I'll share with you a series of lessons she shares during an interview on the Entreleadership podcast that set the stage for her to: a. Fill an untapped need in the market b. Build a meaningful business c. Enroll a team deeply committed to the vision d. Sell her company for a billion bucks She talks about the rejection she faced as she started IT Cosmetics and how she used that rejection as motivation to succeed, stating “rejection is protection”! As a founder you are in the driver seat when it comes to the journey of growing and selling (or not) your business. And this process really starts now with getting clear on your goals.
