Peptide Stacks That Actually Work – A Functional Medicine Guide to Beauty, Recovery, and Longevity

Play Episode Listen Later May 26, 2025 22:52

Today we're talking about one of my favorite tools in functional and regenerative medicine, peptides. It's also quite the buzzword these days, but in this episode we're going deeper to explore how you can best stack them for your desired outcomes. You can think of peptide stacks as powerful curated treatment plans (without all the side effects you want to avoid!). When I first heard of peptides, I was so intrigued that I couldn't wait to experiment with them. In fact, I ordered thousands of dollars worth. I recently put together my own stack for surgery and recovery preparation. But there are many different outcomes you can stack for, including reducing inflammation, gut healing, anti-aging and longevity, and more. Peptides are just chains of amino acids that naturally occur. One powerful peptide is BPC-157, which is incredible for healing and nerve regeneration. When injected close to the site of an injury, it can help with all types of tissue and ligament damage. Thymosin alpha 1 is one of the most exciting peptides for immune dysfunction. It helps the immune system differentiate between friend and foe.  Some peptides are better injected, but many can also be taken orally. GHK-copper can be used a few different ways, for instance, taken orally or used topically. It boosts collagen and reduces oxidative stress. Epitalon is associated with lowering all-cause mortality and is often used in anti-aging protocols. AOD9604 is a fragment of human growth hormone, and it promotes fat burning. One of my top peptides right now is MOTS-c, which supports insulin sensitivity and mitochondrial health, which is especially great for active people. The earlier you start using peptides, the more beneficial they can be for you in restoring and maintaining your beauty and health.   www.beautyculturespa.com @beautyculture.medspa

From Burnout to Breakthrough: Launching the Wellness Aesthetic Fusion Method

Lately, I have been feeling stretched thin. There's a book called The 5 Types of Wealth by Sahil Bloom, and I was recently reflecting on the framework he breaks down in his book. I realized that my health had started to decline due to exhaustion and burnout. My business is thriving, and it has been an absolutely transformative year. We rebuilt our lead generation process, welcomed a hiring firm who complements our values-first approach, integrated a new website and third-party shipping platform, and streamlined our compliance procedures. When you're clear about what your goals are, it's easier to identify your hurdles and deal with them. Now I can see exactly where I am and where I'm going. I also recently took part in the ALT Experience with my longtime coach Kaeli Lindholm, and this also gave me space to reconnect with where I'm taking this business. Merging wellness into my aesthetics practice is me taking part in a global movement. People who invest in their bodies are looking for more integrative approaches. That's where the Wellness Aesthetic Fusion Method comes in—something I created because I wish I'd had when I started this journey years ago. This method is all about creating an elite patient journey with intention. It's a 3-step tiered program that guides you through providing wellness in your aesthetics practice including SOPs, compliance support, team building and hiring resources, a marketing playbook, and more. Whether you're a provider or clinic owner, this blueprint can help you bridge the gap between wellness and aesthetics.   The Wellness Aesthetic Fusion Method Tier 1: https://jessica-christy.mykajabi.com/the-wellness-aesthetic-fusion-workshop  The Wellness Aesthetic Fusion Method Tier 2 & 3: jessica-christy.mykajabi.com/the-wellness-aesthetic-fusion  Take our wellness quiz: beautyculturespa.com/wellness-planning-tool www.beautyculturespa.com @beautyculture.medspa

Maximizing Cellular Function for Endurance & Recovery

If we want to reach the highest level of performance, we need to go deeper. The very foundation of our health, energy, and recovery is our cells—they are the building blocks of our body. Your body is a vast network of signals, and electrolytes power these signals. When your cells are thriving, you thrive. When your cells are struggling, you are too. Your mitochondria are the energy producers of the cell. They generate ATP, which is the fuel that powers everything. When mitochondrial function is optimal, we feel our most resilient. Electrolytes are especially important when it comes to your cellular health. Electrolytes do so much more than keep you hydrated—nutrient absorption, muscle contraction, nerve function, ATP production, and more. Even a 2% drop in hydration can dramatically hurt your performance and cause headaches, brain fog, irregular heartbeat, fatigue, and muscle cramps. If you're exercising, electrolytes are even more important for helping to power your cells. Amino acids play a direct role in electrolyte absorption by helping you maintain cellular hydration for a longer period of time. If you can find a product that's easy to take and brings together both electrolytes and amino acids, for example, in powder form, it can be a game changer for your health. By prioritizing your mitochondrial health by hydrating intelligently (not just by drinking water) and listening to your body, you can support yourself on a cellular level and reduce issues related to electrolyte imbalances. It can also support your recovery, performance, metabolism, and more.   www.beautyculturespa.com @beautyculture.medspa

The Ultimate Business Cheat Code: How to Build an Unstoppable Team That Scales Without You

Play Episode Listen Later Mar 3, 2025 15:43

Let's talk about something most entrepreneurs struggle with: letting go. When I first started my business, I was the top revenue producer, and I thought that was a good thing. But the truth is I was the biggest bottleneck in my business, and that wasn't how I wanted things to be. When you build your business around one person, you can't bring a long-term vision to life. You have to hire and trust the right people and build a business that can manage and sustain itself without you. Your competitors can steal your ideas, but the right team can't be taken—especially a team that's highly engaged and fully bought into your vision. If your business only functions when you are present, you don't have a business. You have a job with a fancy title. Here's what you need to scale: a clear, repeatable process your team can execute. Your team has to feel empowered to make decisions without the need to seek approval. Lastly, you need systems that ensure consistency. The leap from being the provider to the entrepreneur can be very scary. But when you remove yourself, you might be surprised at how your team steps up. When you give people ownership, it's an invitation for them to show up at a higher level. A disengaged team is more detrimental to your business than a competitor. They spread negativity, they lower morale, and they scare away customers. As the leader of your business, it's crucial to recognize effort, unique abilities, and the people who show up for more than just a paycheck.   www.beautyculturespa.com @beautyculture.medspa

Today I'm sharing an episode originally released in 2023 about a huge crisis that my business went through. Vulnerability is an important tool to reflect on our past disappointments so we can guide the journey of the learning process. While it can be difficult to share the challenges we face, these challenges will ultimately shape who we are. Not just as business owners, but as leaders and individuals too. Experiencing betrayal in our personal lives is inevitable, but when it occurs in our professional life, it can be incredibly jarring. I know it was for me. If you've ever experienced a breach of trust, know that you are not alone. Despite our best efforts to build a solid team, we ultimately can't control the decisions of others. We also can't read their minds to completely understand their intentions. In the aftermath of the crisis, you may be faced with a broken team and a sense of loss for that trust. While most of the advice you will get from other people will be to create a legal fortress around your business, it's vital to restore trust, as well as to see and treat your team as your number one priority. It's crucial to have one-on-one meetings with your team members. Not to evaluate their skills, but as an invitation to them for you to hear their needs. From these meetings you can come together to celebrate a shared vision that is larger, has greater purpose, and is founded on deeper connections. You can reflect on your trails to ultimately become stronger as a business owner and team overall. Problems and challenges will arise, but go forth with the knowledge that they are being faced by a leader that has gained more experience.   www.beautyculturespa.com @beautyculture.medspa

Success leaves clues, so if you study top performers in your industry, you'll see what they have in common. Those patterns, behaviors, and actions might surprise you—but they're also a lot simpler than you'd think. Mindset is one of the most important things to master for entrepreneurs who want to scale their business to seven figures and beyond. For my team, as soon as we start our day, we focus on our wins before we move on to our priorities and obstacles. We also do activities that emphasize building confidence so that our team feels empowered. The little things you do each day in your business add up. Seven figure business owners see themselves as CEOs, not just injectors or service providers. This shift isn't easy to make. You'll have to let go of your identity, trust in your team, step into leadership, and see the bigger picture. Successful entrepreneurs focus on outcomes, not procedures. You're not just selling Botox and filler—you're offering transformations. They also invest in their own growth through coaching, masterminds, and mentorship. It's also necessary to define the patient's journey, including the sales and leads process. Top practices also put the right people in the right seats by hiring for unique abilities. The very things you dislike doing are the same things someone else loves (and feels competent doing). Invest in your team's training and development so they can become the best they can be, and you can focus on being a leader. If you implement the right habits, you can make your biggest goals happen.   www.beautyculturespa.com @beautyculture.medspa

If you're a leader looking to build your dream team, this episode is for you. You can't do it all, so you need to bring in support. But instead of hiring for your team, what if you used the revolutionary approach of casting your team instead? This mindset shift can change the way you lead. I know it did for me. Traditional hiring has its pitfalls. You may hire the right skills, but miss out on the core values fit that you need. You may hire people you like, such as friends or acquaintances, without thinking about how they'll suit your business. This is even more likely to happen when you're desperate. When you're building your team, remember this: clarity is key and clarity is kindness. Part of the process I've missed in the past was assessing cognitive skills. You should also understand what motivates someone, as this can reveal their personality and emotional makeup. The Kolbe A Index can help you identify someone's modus operandi, which is crucial to see if they're right for your business. You need to align people's strengths with what's expected for success in the role. If you've gotten it wrong before, take away the lessons from that experience with you moving forward. Remember that even when you do everything right, you can still miss a critical piece. The insights I've gained from the Kolbe A Index have helped me improve my process of casting my team. It has also helped me onboard team members when I do find the right fit. Weekly check-ins in the beginning stages of onboarding can also support your casting success.   www.beautyculturespa.com @beautyculture.medspa

There are five layers of the face, starting with the bone. Believe it or not, your facial bone structure does change over time. There are also fat layers on the face that deflate and descend over time. Of course, there is also a loss of collagen and elastin in the skin over time. In my business, we use social media primarily to get content and information out to our niche clientele, but that's about it. If I didn't have this business, I would probably get off social media altogether. Recently I was told that a former employee was working for someone else now—something I didn't know because I was blocked. As a business owner, giving the gift of having a team member move on isn't always easy, but it often is necessary. At times, the reactions and outcomes from these situations can be triggering. Mostly everyone can relate to this, whether it's former employees turned to critics or former friends. When I first started as a young business owner, I leaned on my team heavily. At the time I thought there was great synergy, but now looking back, I see things differently. Loyalty became performative and conversations got quiet when I came into the room. The reality is that sometimes your most toxic employees are the most profitable. In my situation, my employees weren't just moving on. Their strategy was about dismantling my success; not just winning, but having me lose. This betrayal was confusing and led me to question my judgement. These cracks made me realize it was time to rebuild the business and rebuild myself. Success exposes insecurities and feelings of inadequacy in family and in friends. In a perfect world, your triumphs would inspire people, not make them feel bitter. Just remember that the louder the critics, the greater the proof that you're making waves. Estrogen Does NOT Cause Breast Cancer

Does estrogen therapy cause breast cancer? The simple answer is no. This is a hot topic in health circles—and you may have even been told by your doctor before that estrogen does cause it. This misinformation does a very real disservice to women, which is why setting the record straight is so important. When we look at the data, what we actually see is that estradiol kills cancer cells. So why isn't this information widely available? In large part, it's because hormones, like estrogen and testosterone, aren't patentable—so there's no money in it for the big pharmaceutical companies. Research hasn't really confirmed the exact cause of breast cancer. What we do know is that dysfunctional cells, somehow created, continue to grow and turn into cancer. There are genetic risk factors as well as lifestyle risk factors too. While many women are scared of breast cancer, we are highly more likely to suffer from heart disease. Estrogen is not just overlooked in cancer, it's villainized. The reality is that hormone replacement therapy can increase survival rates. There are many different ways to go about taking estrogen therapy. There are synthetic forms, which we don't use, and bio-identical forms. You can take it orally or transdermally, each of which have their own unique benefits. The only women who may not be considered for estrogen treatment are those who haven't yet gone through menopause. Pre-menopausal women still produce estrogen, so taking it could lead to excess estrogen effects. Estrogen therapy should be used in conjunction with progesterone, not progestins.   www.beautyculturespa.com @beautyculture.medspa

If you've ever felt between wanting to help someone and also protecting what you've built, this episode is for you. Lately, I've noticed something. As someone who has spent years and thousands of dollars building my expertise, I've been fielding more requests about my resources. People are asking for things I've spent countless hours refining, and the unspoken assumption behind it feels off. A few years ago, I invested in a high-level coaching program. I got so much more than just information out of it—I gained confidence and a new framework for the way I think. It also helped me boss up my boundaries, see my surroundings as an ecosystem, and more. But these things came from grit, showing up, and taking risks. The journey deserves to be appreciated. When someone expects your expertise without considering the work it took to gain it, it can feel like you're being taken advantage of. We, as professionals, need to value the person we're asking for help and acknowledge their journey (as opposed to seeking them for a quick answer). Boundaries aren't about withholding, it's about honoring. So, consider this if you're going to an expert for information. Make it clear that you respect what it took for them to get where they are. It makes for a more meaningful interaction and can also help you pave your own path.   www.beautyculturespa.com @beautyculture.medspa

There has been an increased interest in NAD+ therapy recently, and it's become a bit of a buzzword. But what exactly is it, and what are the benefits? NAD+ is a coenzyme that's making waves in the world of cellular health and DNA repair. Studies have shown promising potential with limited concern for side effects. You can find NMN, the precursor for NAD+, in supplement (pill) form. However, the injectable version is much more bioavailable and allows you to go straight to the source. NAD+ plays a central role in cellular energy production and cellular communication. NAD+ is the food your mitochondria “eats” to produce ATP (energy). NAD+ levels naturally decline as we age, and this can lead to many different symptoms and diseases. If you choose to go with the supplement precursor rather than the injections, be sure to choose high-quality products that will actually produce results. Sirtuins, sometimes called longevity genes, are proteins that regulate cellular health. Sirtuins need NAD+ to function, as NAD+ protects your body from the wear and tear of daily life. For example, it reduces triglycerides and liver enzymes to help your body work more efficiently. NAD+ can also help reduce inflammation and reduce the oxidative stress your body takes on. As an antioxidant, it shields your DNA from damage caused by oxidative stress. It's a neurotransmitter, so it plays a direct role in brain function too. There is some promising data for conditions like Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease, Lyme disease, and more.   www.beautyculturespa.com @beautyculture.medspa

Today we're talking about the role that hormones play in anti-aging and skincare. Your skin's vitality is strongly tied to your hormonal health. This is something science is backing, and also a relationship that I've seen first-hand in my business. Hormones like estrogen, progesterone, testosterone, and thyroid hormones are some of the biggest influencers in hormone health. Take estrogen for example: it plays a significant role in skin hydration and elasticity. When estrogen declines, you'll notice a dryness in the skin and an increase in fine lines. Testosterone tends to have a bad reputation in skincare, but it is actually important for maintaining skin resilience. The key is keeping testosterone in balance (whereas too much can increase acne). Perimenopause, menopause, and andropause are all stages in which these hormones can fluctuate and impact the look of your skin. A tailored bioidentical hormone therapy (BHRT) treatment can help improve the look and feel of your skin in many ways. By balancing your hormones, you can increase resilience and age holistically. You can even add it onto your other procedures and treatments for an even greater impact. The first step is getting your hormones checked and identifying the skin symptoms you may be experiencing. Investing in balancing your hormones is truly one of the best decisions you can make, not just for your skin, but for your overall health too. True anti-aging starts with supporting your skin from the inside out. In this episode I'm sharing the many ways in which they could be a game changer for your health and how you can get started on your peptide journey. Peptides are short-chain amino acids that act as signaling molecules. These little messengers can boost metabolism, recovery, cognitive function, and other body functions. They also support physical fitness by enhancing muscle growth. There is specific data on when to use them, and we try to mimic that process using peptides. Good sleep is the foundation for a healthy lifestyle, but so many people struggle with it. Delta-sleep-inducing peptide (DSIP) can be used to promote a more restorative sleep. Better sleep will also aid your recovery and metabolism, further supporting your physical fitness. There are also specific peptides meant to help with fat loss. If you have nagging injuries due to activity or age, peptides like BPC157 and TB500 can help you reduce pain and improve mobility. BPC157 comes from the gut naturally and can also support those struggling with IBS. It can even be used in support of healing from cosmetic procedures. There are also peptides that can help you stay resilient against infection by boosting your immune system, so if you want to avoid getting sidelined by the illnesses going around, peptides can help. Additionally, Peptides like Semax and Selank can support cognitive function and be your secret weapon for stronger mental health. You can also explore peptides for hormone balance. If you're a professional in the health and wellness space, it's important to be able to talk about ED and pave an easy path for those struggling to come to you about it. It's important to educate your patients and offer them solutions. Diminished blood flow for any reason is the main contributing factor for ED. It can have a negative influence on a man's confidence, his relationships, and his mental health. Addressing this problem can help restore physical health and intimacy as well as enhance overall quality of life. Men have options when it comes to finding solutions for ED, but some do have some significant drawbacks. Vasodilators can support increased blood flow, but they can be expensive, plus they don't address the underlying issue. Surgery is another option, but this can come with significant risks. This is where the P-Shot comes in. It's a minimally invasive method that uses a process of generating new blood vessels, which does address the underlying issue by helping to restore blood flow. The results speak for themselves: 90% of men who get the P-Shot report an improvement in erection quality. The safety profile of this option is one of the most appealing features of this method. The worst side effect reported is occasional bruising, which is insignificant compared to restoring sexual function. Today we're diving into how you can maximize protein synthesis and the hormones necessary for muscle building to support your energy, mood, and longevity. It's not about just living longer—it's important to live stronger. There are three important hormones to discuss: cortisol, human growth hormone (HGH), and insulin-like growth factor (IGF). Cortisol is the stress hormone, and while cortisol plays an important role in the body, too much can hurt your muscle-building capabilities. Cortisol also signals your body to prevent new muscle from forming by blocking protein synthesis and tells your body to hold onto fat. If you want to build lean muscle, your body requires adequate levels of testosterone and HGH. An uptake of amino acids makes your body more efficient at repairing and building muscle. That's where HGH comes in—it increases amino acid uptake in the body. HGH is also released during a deep sleep, so if you want to build muscle you need to get a restful sleep. Insulin-like growth factor, or IGF, is HGH's partner in crime. It's released alongside HGH, but only when your stomach is empty. It helps your body burn fat for energy, regulates cellular growth, and supports your nervous system. Poor sleep represses the release of IGF, so a healthy sleep is crucial for meeting your health goals. If you want to elevate testosterone, IGF, and HGH naturally, there are a few things you can do. First, prioritize at least 7-8 hours of high-quality sleep every night. You should also avoid eating large meals before you lay down. When you do eat, be sure to consume enough protein and amino acids.   Oura Ring: https://ouraring.com/product/rings/heritage?utm_medium=iac_raf   Perfect Aminos - https://beautyculturespa.com/product/perfect-amino-strawberry-60-servings/   Katalyst EMS Workout Suit: https://www.katalyst.com/?affiliate=vip&sca_ref=6772577.q02VSTuqNY&utm_source=jessica-christy&utm_medium=affiliate&utm_campaign=default   www.beautyculturespa.com @beautyculture.medspa

It's important to know the things you should do in business—but today we're talking about the things you can do if you want to tank your business. In an attempt to grow, it's not uncommon to unintentionally make the wrong move while thinking you're doing what's best for your business. However, if you want to intentionally ruin your business, just follow these steps. The first thing you can do to halt your business growth is to focus solely on crushing the competition. The more energy you put towards another business, the less you have for your own. It doesn't feel good, and it takes your eye off the prize. Second, keep your business a hidden gem. No one can find your business if it's a secret. Third, don't add value. Just keep it bland and overcharge. Don't offer solutions and make mediocrity your motto, if you want your business to shrink to nothing. Step number four: work with everyone. Don't stick to your core values, and let your message be as clear as mud. Five, stick with outdated technology. Cutting edge tools are overrated and expensive, while the old stuff attracts clients who love clunky technology. Six, ignore your team's growth and development. Treat them like cogs in a machine and don't worry about lifting them up. Lastly, build everything around outliers—the client who breaks all the rules. Build an operation around how one person works, not your overall customer base. This will make things complicated, confusing, and keep you bending over backwards rather than growing.   www.beautyculturespa.com @beautyculture.medspa

Karen's mission is to disrupt the outdated narrative that it's normal for women to suffer through the shifts of perimenopause and menopause. Reliable information can make all the difference in equipping you with the tools you need to take control of your hormone health. After Karen had her daughter, she experienced a cascade of health problems she'd never been through before. Even though she hadn't changed her routine, she was experiencing insomnia, weight gain, and gut issues. Eventually, she sought help with a naturopath who tested her hormones—and that's where she found the answers she needed. She had a similar experience when perimenopause hit even though, at this time, she was working in the wellness space. Karen's story is proof that you can “do everything right” and still experience health problems. What she found is that women are often given old information or outright dismissed when it comes to their health. These hormone shifts can have a huge effect on your life, including your sleep, your mood, and your stress tolerance. Beyond Weight Loss: Updated Thoughts on Benefits of Semaglutide

Play Episode Listen Later Sep 16, 2024 14:02

Today we're diving into a topic that's making waves in the industry: the use of semaglutide. Semaglutide is a peptide that can be taken orally or through injection. You may have heard of it in terms of weight loss and diabetes, but today we're going beyond glucose metabolism to break down the true benefits of this substance in transforming our health. 537,000,000 people worldwide were diagnosed with diabetes by 2021, and these numbers continue to rise. A condition like diabetes can influence or coincide with other conditions too. It's connected to insulin resistance, hypertension, and systemic inflammation. So how does semaglutide work, and how can it help? Semaglutide mimics the naturally occurring GLP-1 hormone, which is important for regulating glucose levels. GLP-1 receptors are found throughout the body, and when activated by semaglutide, there can be a cascade of effects. For one, it can slow gastric emptying and reduce appetite. Semaglutide has also been shown to have an interesting influence on adipose tissue. It may reduce epicardial adipose tissue and lower the risk of cardiovascular complications. Not only can it reduce fat cells, but it can also alter the function of fat cells too—making your body more efficient and reducing inflammation. When losing weight, it's difficult to maintain muscle. However, some studies have shown that semaglutide can help with the preservation of muscle mass. This is incredibly beneficial for overall health and mobility. Semaglutide can be helpful for multiple interconnected systems and therefore can be a powerful tool against the issues that plague our modern society.   wwww.beautyculturespa.com @beautyculture.medspa

In this episode we're joined by Kaeli Lindholm, the CEO of KLC Consulting and Founder of the POP Aesthetic Leadership Academy. Whether you need help with growing your business, building your team, or personal branding, Kaeli's coaching style is incredibly inspiring. We change and shift so much over time in our lives, and our businesses are no different. That's why it's so important to stop and take inventory every few years and ask if what you set out to do is still resonating with you. If you feel friction in your business, it's time to reflect on if the direction you're going in is really right for you. What does it actually take to build and scale a company past $10 million and beyond? Once you have to start showing up as a leader, there is so much work you have to put into your own growth. You also have to learn to make sacrifices—and learn to trust the people you've brought on board to grow with you. As a business owner, the difficult things you go through are actually stepping stones to becoming the person and leader you need to be. You have to believe in your worth and stand up for your values, even when doing the dirty work required in leadership. The best things you can do for your business take time. Hiring for values, for instance, can take longer than hiring the skills you're looking for. But, in the long term, it's a worthwhile investment. The ecosystem you build inside your business is just as important as the services you provide to your clients.   www.beautyculturespa.com @beautyculture.medspa

Tips to Tapping into the Courage to Lead

Leadership isn't just about being in charge and making decisions. It's about having the privilege to pave the way for a team, but it isn't always easy to find the courage to take that on. When you're a leader, you have to make tough calls and decisions that you are willing to stand firm on. Most people are not born leaders. Becoming a leader is truly something you step—or even evolve—into. It also places a responsibility on you to create core values in your business, and these values withstand whether you are in the business or not. If you've identified a problem in your business, as a leader you must discover the source. If it's value-based, your answer will come with greater clarity because your values are your ultimate guide. If it's a will problem (for example, if a team member lacks the will), you have to decide if you can ignite them again or not. If it's a skills issue, it's something you may want to work on with the team member. The right people on your team will embrace their responsibilities and acknowledge their part of a larger whole. The wrong people will see their role as “just a job.” Your confidence in the right people should grow over time. If someone isn't a great fit for your team, you might feel a lack of trust. If you're not sure if someone is a right fit for your business or not, ask yourself this: how would you feel if they walked out tomorrow? If you feel relieved, your answer is clear. Be honest and courageous enough to make the right decisions. If you don't have that in you, then you aren't exercising true leadership.   www.beautyculturespa.com @beautyculture.medspa

The Missing Link: Why Doctors Struggle with Thyroid Hormone Replacement and How it Impacts your Health

Play Episode Listen Later Aug 19, 2024 16:34

Doctors across America see patients for fatigue on a daily basis, but a root cause is very rarely investigated or found. Being tired is seen as acceptable and normal, but living with fatigue every day is no way to truly live. Because the underlying cause isn't uncovered, patients lose steam when it comes to advocating for themselves. Thyroid insufficiency commonly occurs as we age (as hormone levels fluctuate and decline), and this could be a cause of fatigue. This is often overlooked, especially in women who are experiencing menopause. Hormone replacement therapy that considers thyroid hormones can be quite beneficial if this is the reason you're feeling exhausted. It's possible to test in the normal range for hormone levels and still feel unwell. The truth is that what's considered normal may simply not be enough for you. It's important you emphasize your needs with your health professionals, especially if you're feeling symptoms of depression alongside your fatigue. Your thyroid produces important hormones that have very important uses in the body. Replacing these hormones is quite technical and should be considered on an individual basis. You deserve to find answers and find relief for why you're feeling the way you do. If you are on thyroid replacement therapy and you're still experiencing unwanted symptoms, it's possible that the hormones you're on aren't the right fit for you. It's important to get your thyroid hormone levels to optimal levels, not just normal levels. Find a provider who will listen to your concerns and implement a plan specific to you.   www.beautyculturespa.com @beautyculture.medspa

In today's episode we're joined by Danielle Oyasu, the CEO and Founder of Beautifully New, which is a comprehensive medical spa in Park Ridge, IL. Danielle's business and mission is about so much more than aesthetics—she really cares about bringing wellness to the forefront of her business. Danielle first tried hormone replacement therapy with testosterone several years ago. After experiencing her first hot flash and other symptoms of menopause, she decided it was time to commit. At the time it was, and in many ways still is, an important tool that's clouded by misjudgment. All women will go through menopause, but that doesn't mean we have to suffer with it. Most of the women that come to Danielle's med spa that end up on testosterone replacement start the conversation themselves. Prior to this, Danielle was referring her clients to another person—but this person had ever-increasing limited availability, so she identified the opportunity to start offering it to her clients directly. Women, especially moms, deserve to take time for themselves, yet they rarely do. Moms often take on the bulk of the mental load when parenting, and this can cause tension in a relationship. Danielle shares how she navigated this in her own life early in her career, and also how she's preparing to transition to having a child-free home with her husband. As an entrepreneur, one of the biggest takeaways Danielle has had is that it's not about what's best for her or anyone else on the team. What it really comes down to is what's best for the business. Having systems and procedures in place helps make this much clearer, especially when difficult situations arise.   Beautifully New: https://beautifullynew.co   wwww.beautyculturespa.com @beautyculture.medspa

My Journey to Building a Self-Managing Business

I recently read a book called The Self-Managing Company by Dan Sullivan, and in this episode, I'm going to share the key aspects I took away from it. This book is for entrepreneurs who need to be hands-off in more aspects of their business, but it's also great for people who want to work on delegating in their personal lives too. Freeing yourself from the nitty-gritty tasks in your business frees you up to look at the big picture and focus on growth. Every entrepreneur wants a self-managing company, but you can't build one if there's no one to do the work—which means you have to bring people into your business and create a culture around that too. Think of your ABC activities: activities that become annoying, boring, or ones that captivate you. Your role should shift to doing less A and B activities and more C activities. Delegating and automating as much as possible is crucial to making this transition. Considering how you price your services is also important if you want to scale. You also want to consider your ideals versus your goals. Ideals can't be measured—and therefore, they can't be reached. That's why making goals is so much more important. Wishes illuminate your path, but making SMART goals is how you actually get there. What's amazing about being an entrepreneur is that you get to organize your system from scratch. Identifying the unique abilities of others and hiring a diverse team can help round out your support. It also means that you get to operate within your unique abilities.   wwww.beautyculturespa.com @beautyculture.medspa

The Missing Piece: Why Women Need Testosterone

Play Episode Listen Later Aug 5, 2024 27:39

Testosterone isn't something we tend to think of when considering hormone replacement therapy for women—but the truth is that testosterone is important for females too. Without the right balance of testosterone, women will notice significant shifts in their libido and other aspects of their lives too. Testosterone is produced in the ovaries—a fact that helps us appreciate just how significant of a role it plays in women's health. Women in the prime of their sexual wellness tend to have more optimal levels of testosterone. The adverse effects of testosterone that give some people pause only happen when one is taking way above and beyond optimal amounts of it. The sooner you can initiate hormone replacement therapy, the better your results will be. Current studies have shown that there are no adverse side effects when dosed within the proper ranges. Yet, when looking for support for their mood, libido, or other health issues, women are often not offered testosterone as a possible solution. Testosterone naturally falls over time, and for women this starts in their twenties. This causes a significant decrease in sex drive. However, many women won't bring this up to their doctor unless probed to. Those women who do feel comfortable talking about it and end up taking testosterone experience renewed sexual desire. Hormone replacement therapy with testosterone does not introduce something new to the body. This hormone was once present in much larger amounts than any doctor will prescribe. Just because it's normal for your testosterone to dwindle doesn't mean it's optimal. You deserve better.   wwww.beautyculturespa.com @beautyculture.medspa

Many of the most powerful women don't realize how strong they really are. They may even end up hiding behind their man, when really, they could be ascending to greater things. You don't need to make someone else feel like they're doing their role well. As a female entrepreneur, your job is to do what you're called to do. The first thing you can do to set yourself up for success financially is to have the right policies in your back pocket, like a disability policy. You should also collateralize your debt so if anything happens to you, your partner or estate will not be on the line for it. Align yourself with a good CPA, bookkeeper, and business attorney. Leslie emphasizes how much your mindset matters to success too—it's just as important as any financial plan can be. When you believe in yourself, the universe conspires on your behalf. It's easy to get stuck in false nervous system patterns, but those can keep you stuck in your business. Journaling what's happening in your life, whether it's personal or business, can help you identify these patterns and change them. On the other hand, reflecting on old thoughts can also give you perspective on how far you've come. Oral birth control pills affect a woman's fertility and health—yet the implications of taking these pills is often overlooked. These pills work by suppressing ovulation to prevent pregnancy, and your ovaries are shut down from producing eggs via the hypothalamus. Although you may bleed on your period, it's not the same as a natural cycle. The biggest risk with birth control pills is a risk for blood clots, which can cause a stroke. More commonly, these pills can impact mood and libido. When your serotonin is suppressed, you may become depressed. When your testosterone is tampered down, your libido suffers. Women on hormonal contraception are 1-2 times more likely to be on antidepressants. Prolonged use of oral contraception pills can also lead to deficiencies in important micronutrients like vitamin D and folate. There is also a major reduction in trace minerals like magnesium, zinc, and coenzyme Q10. Despite these potential side effects, these pills are widely available and prescribed to combat a variety of issues. Interestingly enough, birth control pills can also change who you're attracted to. When you cycle naturally, you're more likely to pick partners with more diverse genetics, whereas you're likely to choose someone more similar to you when you're on birth control. A woman's body works together in synchronicity naturally, and hormones have a powerful impact on our bodies and overall health. Women need to know the risks of going on the pill, especially from a young age. Medical establishments might be fine with allowing women to take these pills long term, but we deserve informed consent.   wwww.beautyculturespa.com @beautyculture.medspa

In this episode I'm sharing my conversation with Dr. Gretchen Frieling. As women who are focused on growth, we know the importance of getting in front of the right people and connecting face-to-face. Even just picking up the phone can go a long way. Continuing your education can also open doors as you work to scale your business. It helps you figure out what direction you want to go in, and niche opportunities allow you to be very specific about what you're aligned with. Remember that companies offering education always have an agenda, which is to get you to use their product. It's easy for aesthetic practices to grow, but it's not always easy to get them to scale. If you're one business and one brand, it's important to streamline the experience for your patients so that they always know what to expect. From an SOP and complication management perspective, aligning everyone in your business is key. So much can happen in your business if you're willing to let go—and let the people who work for you showcase their unique abilities. Scaling provides an opportunity to fine-tune your business in so many different ways because it forces you to look at how you can do things better, from internal procedures to advertising. Starting a business doesn't automatically make you a leader, but it does give you the opportunity to become one. While it's tempting to be overly flexible and friendly with your team, it doesn't serve your growth. In fact, it could even backfire. The best thing you can do is incentivize your team to work towards a common goal transparently and equally.   wwww.beautyculturespa.com @beautyculture.medspa

One of the biggest things our clients have raved about is how it supports a reduction in pain relief. There are many different places you can use ozone therapy (aside from breathing it in, which is not recommended). It's great on your skin for wound healing, or even in your digestive tract for gut healing. You can also put it in your blood and place the blood back in your body, and you can ingest it or inject it. It can help with sore muscles, circulation, immune system function, muscle relaxation, and more. In HOCATT, infrared heat is used to mimic a mild fever, which triggers your immune response. Carbonic acid is non-toxic, free of side effects, and it can be used to stimulate the release of more oxygen into the cells. We discuss the impact that Alastin's commitment to science-backed product development has had throughout his career. Dr. Widgerow highlights the shifting perspective among plastic surgeons who now integrate skincare into their practices. He outlines the development of TriHex technology, which originated from wound healing research and has revolutionized skin bed preparation. This technology facilitates the removal of extracellular matrix debris, thus enhancing the effectiveness of surgical procedures and improving skin health. We explore the critical role of preparing the skin prior to treatments, which leads to better healing and results. We touch upon the advancements in dermatology, particularly in stimulating elastin production within the skin. Dr. Widgerow explains how new staining techniques and the incorporation of vitamin C have contributed to these breakthroughs. He also describes an antioxidant formula that combines a sodium salt of ascorbate with lactoferrin, yielding a product that supports both collagen and elastin without the irritation often associated with previous formulations. We also examine the challenges of exosome-based therapies, especially concerning the delivery and cargo complexities. The conversation turns to the need for meticulous validation of exosome counts and sizes, as well as the source of derivation. He explains the concept of designer exosomes, which harness the body's natural delivery systems to augment specific peptides. Finally, we get into the regulatory considerations surrounding exosome technology. The discussion brings to light the ethical concerns and the need for validated methodologies in this innovative field. We question the practicality of using complex technologies for conditions that could be managed with simpler methods, and stress the importance of ensuring the anti-inflammatory properties of platelet-derived exosomes.   Sign up for RepeatMD www.beautyculturespa.com @beautyculture.medspa

It's astonishing how our internal ecosystem plays such a pivotal role in not just our immunity and brain function, but our overall systemic wellness. As we dive deeper into the impact of our modern lifestyle on health, I'll reflect on the changes I've made to improve my own well-being. Moving to sunny Florida, embracing homeschooling, and leading an active life were all part of a conscious decision to distance myself from the stress and sedentary habits that plague our society. The standard American diet, high in processed foods and toxins, can ravage our microbiome and contribute to systemic diseases. Addressing the pressing issue of 'forever chemicals' like polychlorinated bisphenols and PFAS, I share my personal brush with glyphosate exposure. Despite a mostly organic diet, the impact on my gut health was undeniable. These toxins, along with mold and endotoxins, can lead to autoimmune diseases, mental health problems, and metabolic disorders. In discussing the body's detoxification process, I highlight the critical nature of supporting each phase, from oxidative activation to filtration. The PushCatch Detox System, Liver Sauce, and other supplements like liposomal glutathione are game changers in toxin elimination. It's about providing our bodies with the tools they need to function optimally in a world laden with toxins. I want to express the sheer importance of viewing our health as a holistic picture. The steps towards a healthier lifestyle may not be effortless, but they are undoubtedly rewarding. Remember, your gut microbiome is as good as the terrain of your body, and with a commitment to detoxification and clean living, a more vibrant and healthier life awaits.   Sign up for RepeatMD www.beautyculturespa.com @beautyculture.medspa

The misconceptions and societal stigmas surrounding hormone deficiencies can no longer dictate how we perceive and manage our health. With this episode, my aim is to empower you with the knowledge to recognize the signs of perimenopause and encourage a shift from passive acceptance to proactive wellness. Understanding hormone replacement therapy (HRT) can be a daunting task, with big pharma's profit-driven focus often obscuring the benefits of this effective treatment. I'll share some practical tips for selecting a healthcare provider that aligns with your needs and offers a treatment approach that you're comfortable with. It's essential to feel empowered in your choices and find a provider who champions a tailored care plan that brings harmony to your perimenopausal experience. I'm a firm believer in the power of beauty as a force for change, extending beyond the surface to encompass our inner health and wellbeing. From hot flashes to mood swings, I'll unpack the complexities of hormonal changes that many women face, yet hesitate to acknowledge. This reluctance, deeply rooted in societal stigmas and the fear of aging, calls for a broader understanding and acceptance of this natural phase. Remember, my friends, perimenopause doesn't have to be a silent struggle. With the right knowledge and resources, we can approach this phase with confidence and grace. Today we take a deep dive into the often-overlooked realm of mental health during menopause. I've witnessed firsthand how hormone replacement therapy (HRT) can revolutionize not just physical health, but mental well-being too. Through a nuanced approach that weaves together lifestyle changes and hormonal balance, we can usher in a new era of personalized care that truly addresses the root causes of mental distress during this pivotal life stage. Estrogen, progesterone, and testosterone have profound effects on mood and brain function. The imbalance of these hormones can exacerbate or even trigger mental health issues. It's not just about treating symptoms, it's about understanding the underlying hormonal shifts that occur during menopause. I'm advocating for a shift in mental health care that includes hormone level assessments and integrates primary care with mental health services. This is about empowering women to take control of their health journey, to seek the support they need, and to consider HRT as a potential game-changer for their mental health. HRT can reduce the risks associated with osteoporosis, heart disease, and cognitive decline without the once-feared risks of blood clots or breast cancer. I believe that it's essential for both patients and healthcare providers to view hormone levels as a vital component of mental health evaluations and to adopt a more holistic, multidisciplinary approach to patient care. Personalized treatment plans should be the norm, not the exception. As we wrap up today's episode, I invite you to share the knowledge and insights we've uncovered with those around you. Knowledge is power, and by spreading the word, we can help more women find balance and vibrancy in their lives. Remember, beauty is not just skin deep—it's interwoven with our overall health and well-being.   Sign up for RepeatMD www.beautyculturespa.com @beautyculture.medspa

In today's episode we're exploring the world of ozone therapy, a treatment gaining traction in the wellness world. We explore the potential benefits of ozone saunas, specifically focusing my recent experience with HOCATT Ozone Sauna, a therapy session that provides 10 treatments in one, at Tringali Vibrant Health in West Palm Beach, Florida. I am thrilled to share my personal experience and how it invigorated my health journey. As we journey together in the wellness world, we can't ignore the lurking shadow of chronic diseases. Conditions like Alzheimer's, Parkinson's, diabetes, and autoimmune disorders are disturbingly on the rise. Environmental factors such as pollution and chemicals contribute to these health issues, but there are innovative solutions like ozone therapy that can provide support. Ozone therapy, often misunderstood, is a potent treatment that shows promise in battling chronic diseases. It works by enhancing oxygen delivery and utilization in the body, a fundamental aspect of health often overlooked by traditional medicine. But it's crucial to remember that ozone therapy isn't a standalone solution; it's a part of a holistic approach to health. I'll go through eight things that ozone therapy can do for our bodies on a scientific level. For example, with its power to increase oxygen delivery and utilization, stimulate cytokine function, and promote detoxification, ozone therapy could be a game changer for people with so-called incurable infections. I'm really excited to be able to bring this into Beauty Culture. It was such an amazing experience and I really look forward to being able to get ongoing treatment myself, while also having the ability to provide it to my clients.   Sign up for RepeatMD www.beautyculturespa.com @beautyculture.medspa

There are many misconceptions around bioidentical hormone replacement therapy that have persisted despite scientific evidence, so today we'll debunk these myths and shed light on the truth. Hormones play a crucial role in our bodies at every stage of life, from puberty to menopause and beyond. While the primary focus of this episode is women's hormonal health, we also touch on male hormones and their unique challenges. One common myth is that hormone replacement therapy increases the risk of cancer. This has been debunked time and again, yet fear and misinformation still exist. Not only do patients fear this therapy, but many physicians are also scared to prescribe it. The complexity of hormonal health is vast, and it has taken me a long time to master the understanding of how to provide this type of care to my patients. However, I believe that empowering you with knowledge and understanding is the key to making informed decisions about your health. The difference between bioidentical hormones and synthetic ones is very important to note when considering replacement therapy. Bioidentical hormones are structurally identical to the hormones produced in our bodies, leading to fewer side effects. In contrast, synthetic hormones are often chemically altered, leading to more unpredictable effects on the body. Hormone replacement therapy isn't just about alleviating symptoms. It's about understanding the intricate balances between the interactions of the hormones in our bodies. If you are experiencing symptoms, I hope this episode resonates with you and helps you make informed decisions about your health.   Sign up for RepeatMD www.beautyculturespa.com @beautyculture.medspa

I've noticed that as my businesses have grown, the cheers of support have started to wane. Not because my achievements are unworthy, but because my rise has triggered envy in some. I've come to realize that my success serves as a mirror, reflecting back the dreams others have shelved. This tough realization is what I'm discussing in this episode, along with how it led me to understand that my journey is about me and not about others. Bernard Baruch's quote, “Be who you are and say what you feel, because those who mind don't matter, and those who matter don't mind,” has guided me through this journey. It's a liberating philosophy that has taught me not to care so much about what others think. It's easy to get caught up in justifying your actions to others, but if you are content with your success, you won't feel the need to disparage others or their success. Focusing on customers and the services I provide has been my key to success. Winners focus on winning, and in our field, focusing on the patients is the way to win. Competitors who focus on you are missing the mark because they are not focusing on their customers. In the world of aesthetics, the pie is much larger than anyone perceives it to be. Scarcity is often a mindset, not a reality. It's about fostering an abundance mindset. This mindset, regardless of the situation, brings abundance to your life. So, focus on your race, at your pace, and keep moving forward with a team that believes in your vision. This journey is yours. It's personal, unique, and beautiful. Keep your head high, your spirit unshaken, and your heart open to those who truly support you.

Today, I want to share the insightful journey of business transformation using the J-curve framework. I have navigated through significant changes in business, and this framework has helped me steer my businesses through challenging times. The J-curve is essentially a graphical representation of performance and productivity during a major shift. It may sound daunting as we experience the initial dip, communication challenges, and trial and error phase, but it's all part of the process. I've learned that to refine processes and keep the team aligned, it's crucial to communicate the reasons behind the change and maintain transparency. Resistance to the changes during a major shift can lead to a drop in engagement, and we might see some team members leaving. However, as we adapt to the new systems and processes, we begin to see the visible outcomes of the change. This is the stage where our businesses can reach new heights and achieve exponential growth. Navigating the J-curve isn't easy, but it's a journey of resilience and belief in leadership. We must draw insights from other thought leaders who have been through similar experiences. And, most importantly, we need to remain committed to the vision to navigate this curve successfully. Understanding change is the first step to mastering it. You need to always keep in mind the purpose that the changes you are making will serve. Remember, with every challenge we face, with every change we make, it's all part of the process that leads us to the exponential business growth that we want.

Beyond the Pill: The Untold Health Secret of IV Drip Therapy

I have seen firsthand the transformative magic of IV drip therapy in the realms of beauty and wellness. IV drip therapy is like the Rolls Royce of nutrient delivery. It offers nearly 100% absorption rates, unlike oral supplements which sometimes have an absorption rate as low as 10%. It's a way to get immediate, efficient wellness. Some nutrients truly shine when delivered via IV. Vitamin C, for example, is our immune system's best friend. It can cause digestive issues when taken orally in high doses, but when introduced via an IV, you get the high doses without the digestive risk. Similarly, glutathione, a powerful antioxidant, gets lost when taken orally but becomes a direct line of defense against oxidative stress when given via an IV. B vitamins, which are critical for energy, can be challenging to absorb orally for some people. But with IV drip therapy, they can get the full benefits. Magnesium, nature's chill pill, can cause gut issues when taken orally in high doses. But with IV administration, these problems are solved. There's also immense value in NAD, a molecule that has been making waves for its connections to energy, anti-aging, immune system health, and gut health. Though it can be taken orally, the IV method is much more impactful. And let's not forget about zinc, amino acids, fatty acids, and EDTA. Each plays a unique role and can be fully harnessed through IV therapy. But remember, despite the benefits of IV drip therapy, it may not be for everyone. Obviously, talk with a professional to see if it's a good fit for you.   Sign up for RepeatMD www.beautyculturespa.com @beautyculture.medspa

Today we're talking all about women's sexual health: Everything from the complexities of the human body to the science behind orgasms, vaginal health, and libido. It's astonishing to know that conditions such as urinary incontinence (which affects between 10 to 20 million women), is the primary reason women are placed in nursing homes. Additionally, around 50 million women suffer from some form of sexual dysfunction. Platelet-rich fibrin (PRF) provides a safe, natural method for vaginal rejuvenation. PRF is autologous, meaning it is biocompatible; derived from your own blood. This reduces the risk of allergic reactions or rejections. With the growth factor release of PRF, we can stimulate regeneration and enhance collagen, which improves vaginal tightness, structure, and tone. Women's sexual health has been neglected in terms of research funding. Myths still surround hormone therapy and the potential hazards of Premarin. It's crucial to bust these myths and bring to light how a positive sexual experience can create a healthy feedback loop for arousal. Additionally, bioidentical hormones can rejuvenate a woman's libido, providing a more enjoyable sexual experience. Remember, women's sexual health is a significant part of overall wellbeing. There is a glaring disparity in research and treatment options, but advancements are creating ripples in the field. She has over two decades of experience in this industry, spanning across pharmaceuticals, medical devices, and cosmeceuticals. Our focus in today's discussion is Rion's revolutionary ( plated ) Skin Science products. You'll know by listening to this episode that the future is here. When she ventured into skincare, Alisa thought exosomes were useless because of her science-based background. After a doctor that she trusts really recommended them, Alisa used them for 5 months and realized that the science behind them is amazing. After explaining what exactly exosomes are, Alisa takes us through the different ( plated ) Skin Science offerings from Rion. Some of the most common feedback about ( plated ) is appreciation of the source material of the product being so transparent. Also, providers are saying that by using this product, they're able to simplify skincare routines. Exosomes are so extremely small, and very sophisticated machinery is needed to extract them properly for use on your skin. Rion's products do not contain anything else, such as DNA, which is quite mind-blowing given their size. There are a lot more exciting things coming from Rion, and Alisa provides a timeline of what we can expect. Still, they're focused on not getting too big too fast. Their long-term goal is to help advance aesthetics, especially in the regenerative space. Stimulating tissue to grow collagen and elastin on its own is so much more effective than using filler.   www.rionaesthetics.com www.platedskinscience.com www.beautyculturespa.com @beautyculture.medspa

We're diving deep into anti-aging in this episode. There's a new revolutionary solution that could be your answer to a youthful, glowing complexion. But before getting into that, I want to talk about the concept of aging itself. Have you ever wondered about the science behind aging, why we get wrinkles, and why our skin loses its elasticity? Aging is not just about the passing of years. It's a complex process that affects every layer of our face, starting from the bone. Youthful skin is typically soft and glowing, and contains plenty of collagen and elastin. By the time you're 40, you lose about 1% of your collagen every year. Let's talk about SKINVIVE. This is a breakthrough treatment, which is not classified as a filler, but is a hyaluronic acid injectable that acts as an internal moisturizer. Studies done on forearms show that SKINVIVE significantly changes the hydration level of treated tissues and returns it to that youthful look. We've had treatments like topicals, chemical peels, micro needling, and more, but the problem is that some of these can take several series to see improvement. SKINVIVE, on the other hand, requires no downtime. It has also been FDA approved by several clinical trials. If you come to Beauty Culture, there are two options for SKINVIVE. Level 1 is $800, while Level 2 is $1200. If you are eager to restore that youthful glow, SKINVIVE could really be your answer, especially since it enhances the effects of Botox and filler as well.   www.beautyculturespa.com @beautyculture.medspa
