Episode Notes In this episode of Last Year's Horror, we're talking about the 2020 Vince Vaughn acting showcase / teen slasher horror comedy, FREAKY. Freaky was written by Michael Kennedy and Christopher Landon and directed by Christopher Landon. It stars the aforementioned Vince Vaughn as well as Kathryn Newton. The plot revolves around the Freaky Friday trope of body-switching, but this ain’t your momma’s body-switching comedy. There is blood, there are guts, there’s a chainsaw to the nuts! And we’re thrilled to be joined by one of our favorite guests and good friends, Josh Gideon, to break it all down for you! When Josh is involved, you know we’re gonna go off the rails pretty quickly, and we are happy to say that this episode is no exception! Breaking News as Bank of America ONCE AGAIN announces a starting wage increase. Last Year, they got to $20, and this year they announce an increase to $25/hr by 2025. While it sounds all well and good, I discuss how this means THE END of tellers as we know it, as everyone on the branch level will be a skilled salesperson. I talk about the immense pressure that will only get worse as the wages go up. I also talk about how there will seemingly be mass layoffs and more closures of branches. I also talk about how the branch managers of the world and people above the basement at BofA will actually not get as hefty an increase which will lead to those people leaving, to replace them with newcomers who start at $25/hr. I then talk about an interesting aspect of this, which is Bank of America mandating their "vendors" pay a $15/hr wage as well. This can be construed as Bank of America believes the minimum wage will be $15/hr at some point, as a lot of vendor employees make $9-$10 an hour now. I also talk about the small, mostly rural areas where these vendor call centers operate may close or end their contract with BofA as a result of this mandated "pay hike". Curious to see how this impacts service as well. So much to talk about in so little time. Check it out and let me know what you think! Episode Notes In this episode of Last Year's Horror, Ben is joined by former 9/11 truther turned conspiracy theory debunker Stephanie Kemmerer to ask the burning question on everyone’s mind: is 1986’s Jim Henson directed dark fantasy classic Labyrinth part of a vast conspiracy to confirm the truth behind QAnon’s wildest accusations of child-eating and satanism carried out by the US’s Deep State elite? Hint: no, it isn’t. But it’s a lot of fun comparing what the infamously wacky conspiracy theorist cult that attempted to overthrow the US government has in common with a movie starring puppets and featuring a farting bog. Oddly, there’s more in common between these two than you might think! Episode Notes In this episode of Last Year's Horror, we're talking about 2020’s The Lodge! The Lodge was directed by Severin Fiala and Veronika Franz and stars none other than Elvis Presley’s granddaughter, Riley Keough, alongside brilliant child actors Jaeden Martell and Lia McHugh. This winter horror story revolves around a woman stuck in a secluded house with her boyfriend’s children as strange occurrences dredge up her traumatic past. Oh yeah, and Alicia Silverstone makes quite an appearance! We’re joined in our discussion by our very good friend Ariana (Switch)Blade. Hold your pencil tight, grab the cinnamon, and bundle up for this feelgood holiday romp (you’ll get those jokes by the end of the episode, I swear)! There’s definitely nothing horrifying ahead! Happy Opening Day Eve and the first one that Alex will have ever attended. Some relationship struggles. Cheugy is kind of like basic. Alex's nephew's first t ball experience is all the dirt kicking you'd expect. The condo next to me is officially for sale. I'm surprised it's so much less than what I expected the price to be. DISCLOSURE. Until we almost finished our discussion, I didn't recognize this deputy incident at Walmart was LAST YEAR. But ALL the sentiments (aside from this being the wake of protests) remain. It was terribly mishandled. Shadow and Bone and more streaming things.

Music can affect us in so many interesting ways. It can toy with our perception of time when someone on the other end of a phone line puts us on hold. It can motivate us to keep up the pace and push through the last leg of an early morning run. Enter a world of artificial time and nature with "Now Wait for Last Year" by Caroline K. As a member of Nocturnal Emissions, Caroline helped craft a strain of early industrial, but by the time her only solo album was released, a new landscape of sound emerged. This is a very special and singular album from 1987, and we all get swept away by its scope.

This week: Two stories of large groups of people vanishing—completely disappearing without a trace—in the world’s most notorious body of water: The Bermuda Triangle. Part 1 takes place LAST YEAR when a boat carrying about 20 passengers set sail from the Bahamas headed to Florida, but never made it. Part 2 tells the story of a routine test flight in which 6 planes and 27 airmen, yes, TWENTY SEVEN AIRMEN, lost contact with ground control and vanished without a trace of any human or plane every being recovered. Their final transmissions with the mainland alone will have you sleeping with the lights on. PLUS all the theories—some of them pretty bonkers—about what is going on there. In the final episode of the Dinosaur Cult series, Essentially, Hovind converted the backyard of his home...into a theme park, improvising an entrance....and refusing to file the proper zoning permit requests with Escambia County. Hovind was charged on Sept. 13, 2002, for failure to observe county zoning regulations, the charge is a 2nd degree misdemeanor resulting from refusing to pay a $50 permitting fee. Only three years after the park opened - two years after his stubborn clogging of the legal system over a $50 bill, in April of 2004 Hovind's work office and home were raided by the IRS. The IRS accused Hovind of tax evasion - not paying taxes - on the more than 1 million dollars he made per year, and While we are on this topic, let's just go ahead and say it: any real man or woman of God is not going to be wealthy and certainly won't be breaking the laws in such a way. Just sayin. In part one of the Dinosaur Cult, we dive into the leader Kevin Hovind, the founder of Creation Science Evangelism (CSE). A world where dinosaurs coexisted with man; a world in which all living things were created out of thin air by a mysterious man who lives in the sky. Now imagine that the world is only a few thousand years old and in that world exists a 'theme park' to promote these ideas. Lastly, imagine that the creator of this theme park (not the mysterious man in the sky) Dinosaur Adventure Land, is serving a 10 year prison sentence for tax evasion. With the park's slogan is "Where dinosaurs and the Bible meet!" And if that isn't enough of the cringe or facepalm factor, it gets much worse. Oh so much worse.[FOLLOW US ON SOCIAL MEDIA]"Elbow Deep Club" PATREON: www.patreon.com/ordisstudiosWEBSITE: www.ordisstudios.comTWITTER: www.twitter.com/PodcastAfraidINSTAGRAM: www.instagram.com/PodcastAfraid[FOLLOW THE HOST ON SOCIAL MEDIA]JARED'S TWITTER: www.twitter.com/jared_ordisJARED'S INSTAGRAM: www.instagram.com/jared.ordisNICK's TWITTER: www.twitter.com/thenickster15NICK's INSTAGRAM: www.instagram.com/porchetta_sandwichSAM'S TWITTER: www.twitter.com/spookysam8[ORDIS STUDIOS PODCAST NETWORK]WEBSITE: www.ordisstudios.comORDIS STUDIOS TWITTER: www.twitter.com/ordisstudiosORDIS STUDIOS INSTAGRAM: www.instagram.com/ordis.studios[MUSIC USED IN THIS EPISODE]Music from https://filmmusic.io"In Your Arms" by Kevin MacLeod (https://incompetech.com)License: CC BY (http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/)[THANKS & MENTIONS FOR THIS EPISODE]Checkout the latest episode of Last Year's Horror, featuring co-host of Even the Podcast is Afraid, Samantha Vazquez. The “Squawk on the Street” team discusses the big swing higher for stocks. Big moves for the tech-heavy Nasdaq, as giants Apple, Amazon, Microsoft, Netflix and Alphabet all gain at lease 2%. The “Squawk on the Street” team speaks with a top Cowen analyst about the road ahead for the airlines, travel and more. Tanger Outlets hammered after Goldman Sachs downgraded the stock to sell from neutral. More positive news on the vaccine front. The Pfizer – BioNTech vaccine appears to be highly effective against a more contagious variant of the virus first discovered in Brazil. Plus, a close look at bank stocks which have rallied big since their pandemic low back in March of Last Year.
Episode Notes In this episode of Last Year's Horror, we're talking about the 2020 reimagining of the classic Universal monster movie, The Invisible Man! Directed by Leigh Whannell and starring Elisabeth Moss, it’s the romantic story of two star-crossed lovers—one an aspiring architect, and the other a genius of a man who just…wants to be seen. Okay, so it’s not that exactly, but we break it down and dig into the good, the bad, and the questionable CGI. We’re joined this episode by Sam Vazquez, co-host of Even the Podcast is Afraid! The Finley boys try to figure out whether or not they saw the movie, "Last Year at Marienbad" (1961) and if, in fact, they exist.
Our First Episode of the New Year! Man, it feels like so long ago that we were watching an anime set around working from an office. I remember Jamal reviewed it for our channel with Roots and Andrew, making the usual stupid jokes and puns as they always do. So Many References made. I think the show was called Africa Salaryman. I heard they had so much fun working from home on this... Wait, That was LAST YEAR???
In part two, the conclusion, before diving deeper into the details of Roland's exorcism, we move into the basics of exorcisms in general, and then we do a few laps in basic demonology and then we attempt a double backwards somersault from the high dive back into the accounts of Roland's exorcism. And we will even do a little nose dive in some interesting movie facts about The Exorcist, followed by a more in-depth swim aerobics into the skeptical view of the Roland Doe case to finish out this two part paranormal case.[FOLLOW US ON SOCIAL MEDIA]"Elbow Deep Club" PATREON: www.patreon.com/ordisstudiosWEBSITE: www.ordisstudios.comTWITTER: www.twitter.com/PodcastAfraidINSTAGRAM: www.instagram.com/PodcastAfraid[FOLLOW THE HOST ON SOCIAL MEDIA]JARED'S TWITTER: www.twitter.com/jared_ordisJARED'S INSTAGRAM: www.instagram.com/jared.ordisNICK's TWITTER: www.twitter.com/thenickster15NICK's INSTAGRAM: www.instagram.com/porchetta_sandwichSAM'S TWITTER: www.twitter.com/spookysam8[SPONSORS & MORE MENTIONED IN THIS EPISODE]If you are into horror movies, then you need to checkout "Last Year's Horror", the newest show to join the Ordis Studios Podcast Network. In part one, we discuss perhaps one of the most terrifying and iconic horror films of all time, "The Exorcist," that stands the test of time in its ability to fill the audience with a sense of sweat-soaked terror and dread. It is a strange and gripping film filled with disturbing imagery and a lot of subtle - and not-so-subtle - symbolic meaning of a real exorcism that took place. Back in 1949, when the world was still very much collectively healing from the devastation of World War II, a young boy was said to have become possessed by a demon. It was this legendary tale about this possession and subsequent exorcism that formed the basis for both the novel and film adaptation of The Exorcist. Because of the controversial nature of the events that were said to occur, this young boy was given the pseudonym "Roland Doe" and a lot of other details were changed when William Peter Blatty wrote the novel. This year's Halloween was never going to be an ordinary one. We had already canceled our haunt due to COVID-19 and city regulations but had hoped for a spirited night of trick or treating and socially-distanced festivities. Then, Hurricane Zeta hit the city. Instead of the anticipated mild tropical storm or modest hurricane, we got a solid category two with little time to prepare. This brought an early end to our Halloween celebrations and gives us the topic for our episode. So here's hoping your Halloween was more successful than ours! This Week's Episode Includes: Intro Housekeeping Notes Telling the Story of Hurricane Zeta Comparing to Last Year's Cancelation Conclusions All in all, this week's episode may be a downer, but it's definitely an episode you do NOT want to miss.

#1: Why Job Cost? + Ways to Use Estimate vs. Actual Reports Many company owners wonder why they should bother with job-costing. They think they can simply watch their checkbook and wait until tax time to see how they did LAST YEAR. Unfortunately, by then, it's too late to fix the prior year's problems. The reality is that if you run your company without knowing your numbers, you're “driving in the dark.” It's not only unwise; it's downright dangerous! Job-costing means you track, and can then SEE, the costs you incur and the income you earn for every job. When you use job costing to track your results, you'll be able to use several methods to instantly SEE how to make a massive increase in your gross profits! You can use “Estimate vs. Actual” reports to: Spot variances while a job is underway. That means you can correct problems – long before they spin out of control! Analyze “after-the-fact” results. You'll be able to see precisely where actual costs were different than anticipated. You'll be able to use that information to improve your ongoing operations. When you consistently review Estimate vs. Actual reports – and use the information to improve internal processes and reduce costs– you'll earn more WITHOUT SELLING MORE, HIRING MORE PEOPLE, OR WORKING HARDER! YOU are your child’s most important teacher! This back-to-school series is back again this year, as we discuss how to have important conversations with our kids that will set them up for success at school, work, and throughout life. Our guest to kick-off the series is Dr. Traci Baxley (https://socialjusticeparenting.com/about-me/) who has been an educator for over 30 years with degrees in child development, elementary education, and curriculum and instruction. She specializes in belonging, diversity and inclusion, social justice education, race identity, anti-bias curriculum. She is also the creator of Social Justice Parenting™, a parenting philosophy that moves families from fear-based parenting to parenting from a place of radical love, for themselves, their children and humanity. On top of all of that, Dr. Baxley is a mother to five children, and she is passionate about teaching them how to courageously advocate for themselves and their unique needs. Three Takeaways Spend time getting to know your child and helping them reflect on their strengths and weaknesses. Support children in articulating their needs by giving them a thorough understanding of their unique needs, whether those are diagnosed conditions that you want them to understand about themselves or simply just personality preferences and learning styles. Teach children to brainstorm who could be on their support team or what resources might help them and write it out in advance.
