Welcome to Media Club Plus: a podcast about diving into the media that interests us and the stories that excite us. This season we're watching a selection of M Night Shyamalan movies. This episode we watched The Village and next time we'll be back with Lady in the Water. The Village is an isolated, idyllic(?) settlement deep in the forest, surrounded by dangerous, territorial, but ultimately peaceable creatures called, by the Villagers, The Ones We Don't Speak Of. In this movie a generation of elders use fear and love to control a new generation of children, but the promises of the outside world (and the increasing danger and dissatisfaction inside the village itself) is too strong a call. The Village is a movie about where Peace and Innocence come from, how evils are movtivated by love and fear, but without a solid grasp on the answers to those questions. Sometimes boring and slow, sometimes exciting and beaituful, and often shallow and patronizing. All our organs contain water, even our bones. In total, more than half of our body is made up of it, or 45 litres for a person weighing 65 kg.  The water we drink is needed to eliminate waste: 3 litres disappear every day via urine, perspiration and breathing. It also helps maintain our body temperature at around 37 degrees and is essential for digestion.  The recommended daily intake of water is around  6, 25cl glasses of water a day, in other words about  1.5 litres. For some of us, this rhythm is difficult to maintain, especially as it's not always very exciting to simply drink water. If this is you then you could try herbal teas or flavoured water.   How can you tell if you're drinking too much? What can you do if you're concerned? In under 3 minutes, we answer your questions! In Gerald Pollack's seminal work, "The Fourth Phase of Water", he makes a more than substantial case that there is much yet to learn about the substance that comprises some 70% of our Earth and biological selves.  We are especially delighted that Veda Austin, water researcher, public speaker, artist, author, and mother who has spent the past 14 year exploring water's structural memory and responsiveness is returning to Alfacast to take us deeper into the watery depths of this most magical element. Similar to Pollack, Veda's work has uncovered states of water beyond the Solid, Liquid & Vapor phases as recognized within conventional understanding.  Is there the existence of a code within water, and can we encode it ourselves?  Veda will share her thoughts, research and more with our audience, while the Alfacast crew contributes to the discussion within the context of Alchemical principles & holographic science. For those who may have missed our first interview with Veda, we discussed her of focus of work in photographing water in its ‘state of creation', the space between liquid and ice. It is through her remarkable crystallographic photos that water reveals its awareness of not only Creation, but thought and intention through imagery. In this part two roundtable she'll take us further into the holographic nature of water, her latest research with autistic children and how water memory can tell us more about ourself and the nature of consciousness. Take a break from "politics as usual" and the fiction of mainstream news cycles to join in on this conversation into the true marvels that await us all. Whether you're asking me how to strengthen your intuition or how to understand a birth chart better, chances are I'm going to first reroute us back to some of the most fundamental building blocks when working with energy and metaphysics: the elements. We first explored the elements on That Witch Podcast back in 2021, and since then I knew one day there would be a time for a more in-depth series dedicated to these universal energies. It is now time we dive down into the deepest depths—the realm of Water—where exploration is something we do with some of our least-relied-upon senses. Water teaches us that communication doesn't have to be vocal in any way, that emotions can be another form of sight, and that Universal experiences truly connect us all across time and space. The real life examples of each of the elements is more massive that you're probably already imagining, and in each episode of the Elemental Magick series we're going to utilize these to derive metaphor and meaning to incorporate into our intentions and our witchcraft practice.Join That Witch School to learn more and go even deeper into Elemental Magick ✨→ Book a private birth chart or tutoring session with me! Laura speaks to organizers in western North Carolina one year after Hurricane HeleneThis show is made possible by you! To become a sustaining member go to LauraFlanders.org/donateDescription:  When Hurricane Helene hit western North Carolina in September 2024, it came as a shock, hitting mountains, not coasts, and flooding rivers and communities with little experience of dealing with hurricanes. Helene quickly became one of the worst storms to ever hit the U.S., and in the absence of a quick response by state or federal government, other groups flooded in. Right-wing actors took advantage of the chaos, spreading rumors about looting and trying to boost their image. But it's the mutual aid networks — some long standing, others new that responded with creative, effective strategies to distribute water, medicine and help communities rebuild. In this episode, Laura Flanders heads to some of the hardest-hit areas in western North Carolina and speaks with community activists to hear the lessons to be learned for the future. Amid Trump cuts to FEMA and the National Weather Service, the future for storm recovery in North Carolina is uncertain. But one thing's for sure — mutual aid support like Pansy Collective, Cherokee One Feather, Racial Justice Coalition (RJC), Rural Organizing and Resilience (ROAR) and Collaborativa La Milpa have the strategies and solutions we may all need for survival.“It takes the state a long time to mobilize, and that might continue to be true as FEMA gets defunded . . . It's imperative that people fight to keep their disaster response funding, but until then, we need to know how to respond ourselves.” - RT“We were talking to the people that were staying in hotels because they had just lost everything and didn't know where they were going to get their next meal or their medicine. Talk to those people . . . We had those journalists, especially BIPOC journalists in Western North Carolina, making sure those stories were told.” - Brooklyn Brown (Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians)Guests:• Brooklyn Brown (Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians): Reporter, Cherokee One Feather•. This will help you de-stress, unwind, and rest. Enjoy two hours of relaxing sounds to help you relax, focus, study and fall asleep.About ASMR Sleep Recordings:The purpose of ASMR Sleep Recording is to help you sleep and concentrate better. This particular episode lasts two hours and has no ads in the middle, so you won't be woken up or disturbed while focusing or relaxing. When you listen to ASMR Sleep Recordings, you can lock your phone, so you won't get any bothersome stimuli from notifications and other sounds from your phone. You can switch between apps while studying or working without pausing the ambient sound.About our sounds:Water creates a natural white noise. Infused with the relaxing quality of nature and the sound-masking properties of white noise, listening to running water is an ideal way to turn off all the stressful things life brings, and to de-stress. Some of our most popular sounds include a river, flowing creek, babbling brook, gentle waves on a lake, and a bamboo fountain. Rain also creates a natural white noise. Infused with the relaxing quality of nature and the sound-masking properties of white noise, listening to rain is an ideal way to switch off all the stressful things life brings and to de-stress. Some of our most popular sounds are rain on an umbrella, hailstorms, hard rain, soft rain, gentle rain, wind and rain, rain on a car.White noise helps babies and children to get a better and deeper night's sleep. This is because external sounds are masked by the noise. With white noise in the background, your child will not hear annoying cars driving by or dogs barking in bed. This allows your little one to sleep better. And it also saves you as a parent a lot of hours!Pink noise is more common in nature than you might expect. It can be compared to continuous rainfall or wind. In addition to white noise, pink noise is also increasing in popularity, especially in business environments. Because it can increase productivity, concentration and creativity.Brown noise can be compared to waves of the sea, a river current, strong winds or the sound of thunder during a storm. Like pink noise, brown noise is very similar to white noise. However, the frequencies have been lowered even further and a lot more concentrated. This gives it a rougher/coarse tone than pink noise. It sounds a bit deeper and a bit bass-like. The benefits of brown noise are the same as the other types of noise. It provides relaxation, increased focus and improved deep sleep.DISCLAIMER: Be aware that loud noises can damage your hearing. If you can't carry on a conversation without raising your voice while playing one of our spheres, the sound may be too loud for your ears. Do not place the speakers directly next to a baby's ears. If you have trouble hearing or ringing in your ears, stop listening to the white noise immediately and see an audiologist or your doctor. The sounds provided by ASMR Sleep Recordings are for entertainment purposes only and are not a treatment for sleep disorders or tinnitus. Consult your doctor if you regularly have severe sleeping problems, experience fitful/restless sleep or feel tired during the day.ASMR Sleep Recordings is the white noise and nature sounds podcast to help you sleep, study or soothe a baby. What does it take for India to deliver electricity to hundreds of millions while simultaneously building a fast-growing clean energy system? Can it overcome its fossil dependence to secure its energy futures with renewables? And how will India's development choices shape the global climate fight in the decades ahead?India, like China, is home to over a billion people, and is highly reliant on imported fossil fuels and domestic coal. But unlike China, it still has a very rural population and has not yet experienced the rapid rise in per capita energy consumption that accompanied China's recent development boom. The future path India takes to development is therefore of critical importance. In this episode of Cleaning Up, Bryony Worthington sits down with Dr. Arunabha Ghosh, founder and CEO of the Council on Energy, Environment and Water, and Special Envoy for COP30. Together they explore India's “twin transition”, achieving universal energy access while driving a massive expansion of clean power. From the data-driven electrification of 130 million households, to innovations in market design that slashed solar prices, to India's push for secure, diversified green supply chains, this conversation reveals a rarely told side of India's energy transition story.Arunabha also shares insights on India's role in international climate diplomacy, the significance of cooperation with China and Brazil, and the urgent need for hyper-local climate risk assessment to protect communities from extreme weather.Leadership Circle:Cleaning Up is supported by the Leadership Circle, and its founding members: Actis, Alcazar Energy, Davidson Kempner, EcoPragma Capital, EDP of Portugal, Eurelectric, the Gilardini Foundation, KKR, National Grid, Octopus Energy, Quadrature Climate Foundation, SDCL and Wärtsilä. What if “luck” isn't your enemy in fishing, but the spark that starts every great pattern? We dive into the messy, humbling, and unforgettable moments that turn random bites into reliable tactics you can repeat—from a dead-herring stalemate to a flutter spoon inhaled on the drop, and the day a kid's toy-sized inline spinner produced a 36" pike that fed an entire camp.We unpack the real formula behind those storybook catches: preparedness meeting opportunity. That means tightening the weak links you can control—premium snaps, fresh leaders, clean guides, solid knots—and then putting in the time that multiplies your odds. It also means staying loose enough to hear what the water is saying today. You'll hear how a painful snap failure reshaped gear discipline forever, why post-frontal fish often slide shallow into skinny weeds, and how small, subtle blades can outfish “right” baits when conditions go flat. We revisit the “stump trap” and show how to keep principles—current, shade, wind lanes—while letting go of dead-end spots that once produced a unicorn.Guiding lessons and campfire honesty run through it all: belief keeps you casting with focus, guests' confidence baits can unlock stubborn days, and time on the water is the only true luck-multiplier. Whether you chase muskies, northerns, walleye, or lake trout, you'll walk away with a playbook for turning accidents into patterns, patterns into confidence, and confidence into more resilient, joyful days on the water. If this conversation made you rethink luck, subscribe, share it with a fishing partner, and leave a quick review. Then tell us: what “lucky” moment became your favourite pattern?

In this short podcast episode, Bryan talks about history and HVAC science: how to dehumidify the air with a waterfall and how cold water became the first air conditioner. In 1902, Willis Carrier worked for a printing company in Brooklyn, New York. There was a huge humidity problem during the summer: the printing plant got damp, causing paper to swell and ink to smudge. Carrier realized that he could wring water out of the air if he brought the air's temperature below the dew point. His solution was to spray chilled water into the airstream; he filed a patent for an invention that would pass air through a mist of cool water, which caused it to cool down and shed its moisture. He called it the "apparatus for treating air." This invention applies basic psychrometric principles. Air holds water vapor up to a certain point. The dew point defines that point. If the air is full of water vapor and its temperature drops below that dew point, excess water vapor condenses to liquid water (such as when it passes over an evaporator coil). In the case of Carrier's invention, the cold water in the spray chamber acted as a giant cooling coil. However, if the water is warm, the opposite effect would happen. We do NOT dehumidify with liquid water due to the requirement for water treatment (to prevent algae and scale buildup). Cold water is less prone to bacterial and algal growth than warm water, but it's still essentially an indoor science experiment. Water is also messy and causes corrosion, and pumping it is expensive. Carrier's experiment evolved to the chilled water coil, which then evolved to the DX coils we see today.     Have a question that you want us to answer on the podcast? Humanity has a primordial connection to water. For Indigenous peoples, such as the Māori, Water is an Ancestor, a living entity to be communed with, revered and treated with sacred reciprocity. We owe our lives to the oceans, rivers, lakes and streams of the world. And although marine ecosystems have often been viewed and studied through the abstract lens of economics or science, today, traditional Indigenous knowledge and cultural relationships with marine life and water in all its forms, are at the forefront of a new weaving that blends the ancestral past with the present. There is a growing wish to restore traditional concepts of marine and aquatic cultivation and care, to address climate change, microplastics, health of marine life, contaminants, and aquaculture. If water is an ancestor, what is our obligation to it? How do we restore a harmonious relationship with water, that supports future generations of life, and preserves the lifeways and worldviews of Indigenous peoples? What do the waters of the world ask of us? What should stewardship of marine ecosystems look like? What might we learn from the Māori, expert navigators of the waters, who have long held that their relationship to the land and waters is sacred. To them: Nature is everything. In this episode, join Heni Unwin, Kairangahau or Research Scientist with the Cawthron Institute [https://www.cawthron.org.nz/], in pondering these questions from her diverse perspectives as a Māori descendant and marine scientist. In the conclusion to their exploration of the Trimorphic Protennoia, David and Gene delve into the third and final descent of divine consciousness - the emergence of the Son, the Word, from the Voice of the Mother. In this episode we unpack the full expression of the Gnostic trinity, and discuss how reality itself is structured like a mind. We explore the "seed pattern" of consciousness, a five-fold mystery of foreknowledge, indestructibility, eternal life, and truth that forms the blueprint for the First Man and the enlightened mind. Join us as we journey from the archetypal patterns of Thought and Voice to the fully articulated Word that shatters the illusion of a world built under the illusion of separation, and illuminates the path to Gnosis. In the final descent, the Protennoia reveals herself as the ultimate shapeshifter - a hidden, trickster intelligence dwelling within all levels of reality, from the movements of matter to the minds of angels and men. She is the “hidden root” that the worldly powers are ignorant of, the secret source guiding creation from within. We analyze the profound five-stage initiation rite described in the text, a process of spiritual alchemy involving robing in "shining Light," baptism in the "Water of Life," and enthronement in glory, which purifies the five faculties of the soul. This sacred ceremony culminates in receiving the "Five Seals," the credentials of one who has directly experienced the ineffable and transcended the dark chaos of the fragmented self. The journey reaches its climax with one of the most startling and radical images in Gnostic literature, in which the Protennoia declares, “I put on Jesus. I bore him from the cursed wood” - which reframes the teachings and death of Christ not as a historical sacrifice, but instead, as deeply symbolic of the internal process of divine consciousness manifesting within the individual. This ultimate revelation ties all spiritual narratives together as expressions of a single, holographic reality where the whole is present in every part. The text suggests that by understanding this mystical union, we can transform our own consciousness into a “Light in Light,” realizing the deep empathy that flows from the knowledge that we are all expressions of one universal Mind.Deep Dive:The Trimorphic Protennoia - Three Forms of First ThoughtChapters:01:15 Introduction01:47 Review04:48 The Third Descent08:52 The Word11:02 Hidden Light14:02 Three Descents17:43 Hidden Root20:24 Shining Light22:47 Initiation of Light26:18 Shapeshifter28:22 Five Seals32:12 Wearing Jesus36:16 ConclusionsResources:Trimorphic Protennoia - John D.
