Coming out to their teddy bear, Lindz Amer quickly found themselves at the center of internet controversy. Navigating online vitriol from a young age, they found solace in connecting with other queer folk and making content for LGBTQ+ children. They are best known for their webseries Queer Kid Stuff, their book Rainbow Parenting: Your Guide to Raising Queer Kids and Their Allies, and their debut picture book Hooray for She, He, Ze, and They! Host: Katie Koestner Editor: Benter Oluoch Producers: Emily Wang, Megan Ray, and Catrina Aglubat
Pride is still in full swing and so I asked friend of the pod Mx. Lindz Amer of Queer Kids Stuff back on the pod to talk about the state of gays in reality tv and beyond! We also chat about their amazing web series geared towards creating safe, educational, and fun videos for LGBTQIA+ kids and their families!! Like Mister Rogers, but somehow gayer. Welcome back to Lez Hang Out, the podcast that wants every kid to have access to queer role models and positive LGBTQ+ representation. This week Leigh (@lshfoster) hangs out solo with Lindz Amer (@mxlindz), the creator of the web series Queer Kid Stuff (@queerkidstuff) and author of the inclusive parenting book, Rainbow Parenting: Your Guide to Raising Queer Kids and their Allies, and the children's book, Hooray for She, He, Ze, and They!: What Are Your Pronouns Today?. Lindz travels to schools and libraries across the country to talk to children, parents, and educators about the importance of affirming childrens' identities. They are also a consultant for mainstream preschool media (for example, Lindz created a nonbinary character for Paw Patrol that unfortunately resulted in quite a bit of backlash from outraged conservative parents because of course it did). Lindz is currently working to reboot their award-winning preschool web series Queer Kid Stuff through a Kickstarter campaign which runs through July 5th. For those of you who are unfamiliar, Queer Kid Stuff is basically the LGBTQ+ inclusive version of Mr. Rogers that we all wish we'd had growing up. Leigh spoke with Lindz about their dreams for the new and improved Queer Kid Stuff, what they have learned about early childhood education and how best to teach queer concepts since releasing the original web series, their journey to recognizing and embracing their transness and becoming a more authentic version of themselves, and why in the face of horrific LGBTQ+ youth mental health statistics, positive media representation is more important than ever for both kids and caregivers alike. In today's age, it isn't enough to only educate and direct content at LGBTQ+ people. We also need to educate and raise allies in our effort to normalize queerness everywhere. Statistics show that when educators, parents, and caregivers support children's sexual and gender identities through the use of affirming language and respecting their chosen pronouns, the risks of queer youth harming themselves goes down by a whopping 50%. With so many recent attempts to censor queerness in childrens' media including the banning of drag storytime at libraries, as well as the censorship of school and library books that reference queerness in any way, it is critical that we as a community push back and continue to do everything in our power to teach kids how to live authentically and proudly as their truest selves. In Act 2 of Episode 67: “The Power of Queer Joy!,” Courtney continues her conversation with guest Lindz Amer. Their chat pivots in tone and substance from Act 1, which was focused on what it means to be a child that is free to explore and to keep that inner child alive as an adult. Act 2 focuses in on Lindz's work as a content creator and the myriad differences between creating and distributing online content, and creating their longform, non-fiction book, “Rainbow Parenting: Your Guide to Raising Queer Kids and Their Allies.” One (of many) interesting parts of this conversation is centered around Lindz's journey away from and back to programming for young audiences, and realizing the importance of feeling and expressing Queer joy in spaces and through content that have not traditionally held space for that joy or narrative.
You know what they say: New year, new episode! In Episode 67: “The Power of Queer Joy!” Courtney sits down with guest Lindz Amer, whose impressive list of credits spans stage performance, author, musician and educator. This discussion focuses on a number of Lindz Amer's creative projects ranging from their award-winning web series Queer Kid Stuff, a viral TedTalk on gender and sexuality, and their recently-published book, Rainbow Parenting: Your Guide to Raising Queer Kids and Their Allies. The heart of this episode is a thoughtful exploration of what it means to be a kid with opportunities to experiment with a range of ideas and experience the wide spectrum of human emotions, and what it means to be an adult while trying to keep one's inner child alive in a world that wants adults to just grow up. This thoughtful, introspective episode is one you won't want to miss.

Gaslit Nation has been vindicated, and it sucks to be vindicated about the deadly inertia of a mafia state accomplice! After two years of describing obvious inaction on obvious crimes and being assured by an army of bot-brained propagandists that Merrick Garland is fighting the good fight but Must Keep Silent for Reasons You Will Understand in Time, we have new confirmation that, no, he's just a terrible Attorney General! And that Lisa Monaco, the deputy attorney general, is equally bad! In this episode we discuss the Washington Post expose “FBI resisted opening probe into Trump's role in Jan. 6 for more than a year”, dig into the background of Monaco (for more background on Garland, listen to our enormous archive of treasonous complicity), and talk about what Biden should do next. Happy Pride Month! For the second part of this episode, Andrea interviews Lindz Amer who is back on Gaslit Nation to discuss their new must-read book Rainbow Parenting Your Guide to Raising Queer Kids and Their Allies. From their author bio: “Lindz Amer created Queer Kid Stuff—an award-winning original LGBTQ+ educational webseries for all ages—that has reached millions of families. They perform at libraries, schools, and theaters all over the world spreading queer joy and working on numerous projects that bring queer and trans representation into mainstream children's media. In 2019, they gave a viral TED Talk on the importance of talking to kids about gender and sexuality. They currently write for preschool television and also host the parenting podcast Rainbow Parenting, as well as Activist, You! for kids featuring interviews with youth activists.” Check out Rainbow Parenting today! Our bonus episode is our usual Q&A of questions from Patreon subscribers at the Democracy Defender lever or higher, and is available to listeners at the Truth-Teller lever or higher. If you asked a question and we haven't answered it yet, don't worry – we are getting through the backlog this month. Sarah took a couple weeks off due to a family emergency but is back so we will both have everything answered by the end of June. Next week June 27 12pm EST will be a live-taping of Gaslit Nation featuring Russian mafia expert Olga Lautman. To sign up for that, support the show at the Truth-teller level or higher to receive a link to join the virtual event on the morning of the show! Thank you for your support of Gaslit Nation! We're back with Episode 62, Act 2: “Make Space, Give Grace,” featuring Caitlyn McCain, Teaching Artist and Education Associate for Public Engagement with New York City Children's Theater (NYCCT), and Lindz Amer, creator of the video series “Queer Kids Stuff” and author of the book, “Rainbow Parenting.” This act is packed with rich discussion about gender and the conversations happening now in legislative bodies and learning spaces across the country about how we see (or don't see) and understand (or don't understand) gender. In their chat, the second in our three-part series, “In Conversation with ‘Start the Conversation,'” Courtney, Caitlyn and Lindz cover topics like pushing back against the current wave of anti-LGBTQIA legislation on the federal and local levels, book bannings and filling the void of Queer representation in TYA. In an effort to confront all of these issues, they discuss a shared interest: developing engaging education content that invites adults to have big conversations with kids about a range of topics from LGBTQIA+ identities to the non-binary and gender spectrum. Listen to this thoughtful episode to hear more!

The Grounded Futures Show, Ep 23: Queer Brilliance, with Lindz Amer “I hope that I can put a little bit of healing out into the world because I think we just need a lot more of that. There are a lot of hurt people out there.” We had a pretty healing and joyful conversation with the fabulous writer, educator, and performer, Lindz Amer! We talked about the importance of creating queer affirming media for little Kids (and their adults), joyfully stitching back together intergenerational connections within the LGBTQ+ communities, and traversing non-affirming spaces. We also get into the muck and nuance of tough topics and realities, such as anti-trans, transmisogyny, the many genders, sexuality, gender performance, power & privilege, socialisation, smashing the cis-hetero-patriarchy, and so much more. This week's guest is Lindz Amer (they/them). As some of you may know, they are the founder and creator of Queer Kid Stuff, an entertainment company that brings LGBTQ+ and social justice media to kids and families. They also currently host of the queer and gender affirming parenting podcast, Rainbow Parenting. Their book, Rainbow Parenting: Your Guide to Raising Queer Kids and Their Allies, publishes on May 30, 2023. I have been a personal fan of Lindz and their work for several years. They have done to support changing the landscape for queer youth and their parents, and so it was just so special to get to have them on to share about both their work and their own personal journey. Lindz was so generous with how much they let us into their own story and the not always easy behind the scenes of the work they are doing in the world. When I was a kid, nobody talked to me at all about queer people, except maybe to tell me that they were sinful and going to hell. I don't think I really even started to learn about queerness in any way other than the negative until I was in high school. And even then, it wasn't exactly what I would call affirming. And I know my experience isn't uncommon.Times have really changed when it comes to the acceptance of the queer community by the dominant cishet society that we live in in the U.S. and it has opened to door to having conversations with kids about queerness and gender much earlier and in a much more positive way.The problem is because so few of us parents had a positive introduction to this, there are lots of questions about when and how to start these conversations with our kids.We need resources for talking to kids about queerness. And that's where today's guest comes in.Lindz Amer (they/them) is the founder and CEO of Queer Kids Creative, a digital entertainment company spreading queer joy and queer-focused intersectional, all-ages media. They wrote, produced, and co-hosted Queer Kid Stuff, an original LGBTQ+ educational web series for ages three and up, for four season and over 50 episodes. They continue to perform QKS music and stories at schools, museums, libraries, and local LGBTQ+ centers all over the country. They also produce and host a family-friendly podcast called Activist You, where they explore social justice topics through interviews with kids and youth activists. And they just launched a new podcast called Rainbow Parenting.Their work has been featured by Good Morning America, Kids Screen, NBC Out, Teen Vogue, Shondaland, and Parents Magazine, among others, and their TED Talk, Why Kids Need to Learn About Gender and Sexuality, has been viewed almost 3 million times.Check out the full episode to hear about:How Queer Kid Stuff evolved as a way to meet kids where they already were with “queer theory meets Mr. Rogers”Lindz's practical and emotional advice for helping your kiddo navigate social mediaWhy Lindz is making parent and adult-focused content that helps them create affirming environments for their kidsWhy every human needs an education on gender and sexualityFind our more about Lindz Amer:Queer Kid StuffActivist You PodcastRainbow Parenting PodcastInstagram: @lindzamerTwitter: @lindzamerTED Talk: Why Kids Need to Learn About Gender and SexualityPreorder Rainbow Parenting: Your Guide to Raising Queer Kids and Their AlliesSubscribe to the Queer Kid Stuff NewsletterFind out more about Mackenzie Dunham:Wildheartsociety.orgwildheartsociety.org/downloadsWild Heart Society on FacebookWild Heart Society on Instagram

Jelani talks with Lindz Amer, a multi-hyphenate writer, performer, creator, and activist.Lindz is the creator of the beloved web series, Queer Kid Stuff, and their work has been featured by Good Morning America, Kidscreen, Teen Vogue, and so many more. They've even got a TEDtalk. They've written and consulted on kids shows like The Fabulous Show with Fay and Fluffy, the Webby-award winning Blues Clues, and You Pride Parade music video for Nick Jr. Lindz is like a modern day queer and non-binary Mr. Rogers. Making media for the next generation is what they do, which is why I thought they'd be the perfect person to talk with when it came to kids, identity, gender, and how to navigate it all as a parent. We absolutely get into it in the best way possible. And answer questions like, when do kids fundamentally understand their gender? How can you not screw up when your kid comes out? And why that last question is actually kind of problematic? Why is there so little queer kids content? And are things actually getting better for queer kids? Or is it maybe worse than it's ever been? We're so excited about this conversation. Buckle up. We're so excited to have one of our favorite returning guests back in the NBI hot seat! The great Lindz Amer makes their triumphant return to the mayhem of bad ideas that people have had in real life and/or the Internet! First, Gabriel takes us to Tenerife, where a bit between a vacationing couple got way out of control and we transform it into a slow-motion horror story that makes us all uncomfortable. Next, Sarah brings us the first-world woes of a French farmer, and the gang turns it into the story of the end of the world that all comes down to American exchange students. Then, Lindz talks about the differences between writing for kids versus adults, the building blocks of storytelling, and their dream projects for all kinds of screens. Plus: #SponsoredContent, a Call of Cthulhu place, the creepier Kool-Aid Man, a new TikTok genre and the origin of the Zombie apocalypse. Today on No Bad Ideas, a special episode from our vault of past episodes, featuring the amazing Lindz Amer and a lot of lions! This week, we're joined in the studio by Lindz Amer of Queer Kids Stuff for two bad ideas and a roundtable discussion. First, we bring a Scooby-Doo-style ghost hunting gang into the YouTube Era and they form an unlikely alliance with an eccentric horror writer fighting off the bank from foreclosing his historically haunted mansion. Next, faced with an animal rights nightmare from the 1930s, we avoid “Green-Booking” the situation with Hugh Jackman and look for a more nuanced way to approach people with lions in motorcycles racing on walls in the circus with a non-zero amount of mauling. Finally, we chat with Lindz about finding universality as storytellers and get a sneak peek into their new fiction storytelling projects. "How do you talk to kids about queerness?" "How can a kid know how they identify gender or sexuality-wise?" "How do you deal with backlash from those who think kids shouldn't know about 'these things'?" “Why is it important for kids to see queerness represented in media?”On this episode, I interview Lindz Amer (they/them), the creator of Queer Kid Stuff: a web series and media outlet that imagines a kinder and more equal future through highly-accessible education and entertainment for kids ages 3+. Lindz launched QKS in 2015 with their best stuffed friend Teddy as a way to make seemingly complex subjects like Queerness, Pronouns, Racism, Religion, Homophobia, and many others easy for kids to understand. Lindz says how they did it as a way to not only help kids understand but parents as well. They, ultimately, wanted to create something that they would have loved to have seen when they were a kid. Representation and support from family and friends can make a tremendous impact on a young queer kid. Aside from this show, we also discuss the evolution of representation in kid's media and why the representation needs to be explicitly visible and not just hinted at. As Lindz and I discuss their journey as an activist and creator of QKS, we also talk about the backlash they've faced from those who don't understand the work they do. We talk about why Queerness and LGBTQ+ topics seem to be deemed too sexual or too hard for kids to understand.
