Jocktober continues with the world's most dangerous morning show, the Breakfast Club. When you have DJ Envy and Charlamagne tha God you know things are going to get spicy. They do amazing things like read national news headlines, talk about entertainment news, and have softball interviews with c-list celebrities. What's dangerous about this again? Doug from Who's Right joins the show to try to figure out what everyone is saying and zoom in on Jess Hilarious to prove just how useless she is on the show. We check in on Queer Kid Stuff to get an update on their new round of funding. Doug brings us an update on Stephanie Brie. Stuttering John had his big birthday weekend and decided to go on Rob Saul's show and get drunk. John drunk is always a highlight but the best part was seeing just how sad and pathetic Rob Saul's life really is. We close things out with a round of To Poke A Dabbler, the Internet News, and your voicemails. Coming out to their teddy bear, Lindz Amer quickly found themselves at the center of internet controversy. Navigating online vitriol from a young age, they found solace in connecting with other queer folk and making content for LGBTQ+ children. They are best known for their webseries Queer Kid Stuff, their book Rainbow Parenting: Your Guide to Raising Queer Kids and Their Allies, and their debut picture book Hooray for She, He, Ze, and They! Host: Katie Koestner Editor: Benter Oluoch Producers: Emily Wang, Megan Ray, and Catrina Aglubat
Welcome back to Lez Hang Out, the podcast that wants every kid to have access to queer role models and positive LGBTQ+ representation. This week Leigh (@lshfoster) hangs out solo with Lindz Amer (@mxlindz), the creator of the web series Queer Kid Stuff (@queerkidstuff) and author of the inclusive parenting book, Rainbow Parenting: Your Guide to Raising Queer Kids and their Allies, and the children's book, Hooray for She, He, Ze, and They!: What Are Your Pronouns Today?. Lindz travels to schools and libraries across the country to talk to children, parents, and educators about the importance of affirming childrens' identities. They are also a consultant for mainstream preschool media (for example, Lindz created a nonbinary character for Paw Patrol that unfortunately resulted in quite a bit of backlash from outraged conservative parents because of course it did). Lindz is currently working to reboot their award-winning preschool web series Queer Kid Stuff through a Kickstarter campaign which runs through July 5th. For those of you who are unfamiliar, Queer Kid Stuff is basically the LGBTQ+ inclusive version of Mr. Rogers that we all wish we'd had growing up. Leigh spoke with Lindz about their dreams for the new and improved Queer Kid Stuff, what they have learned about early childhood education and how best to teach queer concepts since releasing the original web series, their journey to recognizing and embracing their transness and becoming a more authentic version of themselves, and why in the face of horrific LGBTQ+ youth mental health statistics, positive media representation is more important than ever for both kids and caregivers alike. In today's age, it isn't enough to only educate and direct content at LGBTQ+ people. We also need to educate and raise allies in our effort to normalize queerness everywhere. Statistics show that when educators, parents, and caregivers support children's sexual and gender identities through the use of affirming language and respecting their chosen pronouns, the risks of queer youth harming themselves goes down by a whopping 50%. With so many recent attempts to censor queerness in childrens' media including the banning of drag storytime at libraries, as well as the censorship of school and library books that reference queerness in any way, it is critical that we as a community push back and continue to do everything in our power to teach kids how to live authentically and proudly as their truest selves. It's our 500th episode and we're celebrating with some of our least favorite podcasts from the first 499. We start with the Mike O'Meara Show featuring guys who were on the Don and Mike Show which I think was good back in the day. Then we look at the Boogered Up podcast featuring my favorite real-life Beavis - Spaz Kid. Also, Dax Shepard has been hosting a terrible podcast for years and we've been letting him get away with it. We're joined by Vinnie Paulino, Andy Q. Public, and Kindy to get things rolling. We have a fantastic tribute to our 500th episode from Myster Magenta, Jodie B, Ed the Editor, and Adam Theroux as well as a half-assed tribute from Cardiff Electric. Then Missy B joins the show to discuss Stuttering John calling her a sperm receptacle. After some good natured ribbing with StutJo, Dick Masterson joins us to learn more about the LGBTQ community with Queer Kid Stuff. Also, a round of To Catch An Alien, reviews with Kindy, and your voicemails.

Gaslit Nation has been vindicated, and it sucks to be vindicated about the deadly inertia of a mafia state accomplice! After two years of describing obvious inaction on obvious crimes and being assured by an army of bot-brained propagandists that Merrick Garland is fighting the good fight but Must Keep Silent for Reasons You Will Understand in Time, we have new confirmation that, no, he's just a terrible Attorney General! And that Lisa Monaco, the deputy attorney general, is equally bad! In this episode we discuss the Washington Post expose “FBI resisted opening probe into Trump's role in Jan. 6 for more than a year”, dig into the background of Monaco (for more background on Garland, listen to our enormous archive of treasonous complicity), and talk about what Biden should do next. Happy Pride Month! For the second part of this episode, Andrea interviews Lindz Amer who is back on Gaslit Nation to discuss their new must-read book Rainbow Parenting Your Guide to Raising Queer Kids and Their Allies. From their author bio: “Lindz Amer created Queer Kid Stuff—an award-winning original LGBTQ+ educational webseries for all ages—that has reached millions of families. They perform at libraries, schools, and theaters all over the world spreading queer joy and working on numerous projects that bring queer and trans representation into mainstream children's media. In 2019, they gave a viral TED Talk on the importance of talking to kids about gender and sexuality. They currently write for preschool television and also host the parenting podcast Rainbow Parenting, as well as Activist, You! for kids featuring interviews with youth activists.” Check out Rainbow Parenting today! Our bonus episode is our usual Q&A of questions from Patreon subscribers at the Democracy Defender lever or higher, and is available to listeners at the Truth-Teller lever or higher. If you asked a question and we haven't answered it yet, don't worry – we are getting through the backlog this month. Sarah took a couple weeks off due to a family emergency but is back so we will both have everything answered by the end of June. Next week June 27 12pm EST will be a live-taping of Gaslit Nation featuring Russian mafia expert Olga Lautman. To sign up for that, support the show at the Truth-teller level or higher to receive a link to join the virtual event on the morning of the show! Thank you for your support of Gaslit Nation! The Grounded Futures Show, Ep 23: Queer Brilliance, with Lindz Amer “I hope that I can put a little bit of healing out into the world because I think we just need a lot more of that. There are a lot of hurt people out there.” We had a pretty healing and joyful conversation with the fabulous writer, educator, and performer, Lindz Amer! We talked about the importance of creating queer affirming media for little Kids (and their adults), joyfully stitching back together intergenerational connections within the LGBTQ+ communities, and traversing non-affirming spaces. We also get into the muck and nuance of tough topics and realities, such as anti-trans, transmisogyny, the many genders, sexuality, gender performance, power & privilege, socialisation, smashing the cis-hetero-patriarchy, and so much more. Today we're joined by Aldo Buttazzoni of PragerU to discuss his recent exposé on YouTube Kids content and the new controversial Disney+ "Proud Family" show. In this report, posted via Twitter, Aldo reveals what disgusting content is not only made available, but advertised to kids upon first creating an account. One account, called "Queer Kid Stuff," breaks down the infinite sexualities in the LGBTQ+ group and details what each letter means. We also discuss Aldo's trip to the Los Angeles Zoo Drag Night, which was marketed to kids as young as 2. Then, we take a look at Disney+'s new show, "The Proud Family," where in one episode titled "Juneteenth," the characters proclaim that slaves built America, Abraham Lincoln didn't actually free slaves, and that black people are deserving of reparations and demand to be paid. Why is more and more of this content creeping into kids' programming? We also look at what's going on in Florida with Governor DeSantis' pushback on critical race theory and diversity, equity, and inclusion programs and why this is a very good thing. --- Timecodes: (00:40) Intro (08:52) Interview with Aldo begins / YouTube Kids (23:00) LA Zoo Drag Night (25:50) Proud Family reboot (32:56) Racism courses in Florida (44:19) Hate crime in Orange County --- Today's Sponsors: Good Ranchers — change the way you shop for meat today by visiting GoodRanchers.com/ALLIE and use promo code 'ALLIE' for $20 off your first box of America's best meat and seafood! They have done to support changing the landscape for queer youth and their parents, and so it was just so special to get to have them on to share about both their work and their own personal journey. Lindz was so generous with how much they let us into their own story and the not always easy behind the scenes of the work they are doing in the world. They created their beloved LGBTQ+ family webseries Queer Kid Stuff in 2016 which now has 4M lifetime views and counting! The things we make say a lot about the people who make them. In every detail, from the language used on the show to the guests who join for interviews, from the publishers whose works are celebrated and amplified to the underrepresented stories and voices who are given the spotlight, these choices communicate a lot about the values of the person making the show. And that's not something I take lightly. On today's retrospective episode, we're looking at what you do when you find yourself uncomfortable with the story the thing you make is saying about you. And, specifically, we looking through a lens of this show's history and of my personal and professional growth. Self-indulgent? Perhaps. But maybe hearing about my “why” will help impact your work or how you approach your work in some way. Enjoy! When I was a kid, nobody talked to me at all about queer people, except maybe to tell me that they were sinful and going to hell. I don't think I really even started to learn about queerness in any way other than the negative until I was in high school. And even then, it wasn't exactly what I would call affirming. And I know my experience isn't uncommon.Times have really changed when it comes to the acceptance of the queer community by the dominant cishet society that we live in in the U.S. and it has opened to door to having conversations with kids about queerness and gender much earlier and in a much more positive way.The problem is because so few of us parents had a positive introduction to this, there are lots of questions about when and how to start these conversations with our kids.We need resources for talking to kids about queerness. And that's where today's guest comes in.Lindz Amer (they/them) is the founder and CEO of Queer Kids Creative, a digital entertainment company spreading queer joy and queer-focused intersectional, all-ages media. They wrote, produced, and co-hosted Queer Kid Stuff, an original LGBTQ+ educational web series for ages three and up, for four season and over 50 episodes. They continue to perform QKS music and stories at schools, museums, libraries, and local LGBTQ+ centers all over the country. They also produce and host a family-friendly podcast called Activist You, where they explore social justice topics through interviews with kids and youth activists. And they just launched a new podcast called Rainbow Parenting.Their work has been featured by Good Morning America, Kids Screen, NBC Out, Teen Vogue, Shondaland, and Parents Magazine, among others, and their TED Talk, Why Kids Need to Learn About Gender and Sexuality, has been viewed almost 3 million times.Check out the full episode to hear about:How Queer Kid Stuff evolved as a way to meet kids where they already were with “queer theory meets Mr. Rogers”Lindz's practical and emotional advice for helping your kiddo navigate social mediaWhy Lindz is making parent and adult-focused content that helps them create affirming environments for their kidsWhy every human needs an education on gender and sexualityFind our more about Lindz Amer:Queer Kid StuffActivist You PodcastRainbow Parenting PodcastInstagram: @lindzamerTwitter: @lindzamerTED Talk: Why Kids Need to Learn About Gender and SexualityPreorder Rainbow Parenting: Your Guide to Raising Queer Kids and Their AlliesSubscribe to the Queer Kid Stuff NewsletterFind out more about Mackenzie Dunham:Wildheartsociety.orgwildheartsociety.org/downloadsWild Heart Society on FacebookWild Heart Society on Instagram
Jelani talks with Lindz Amer, a multi-hyphenate writer, performer, creator, and activist.Lindz is the creator of the beloved web series, Queer Kid Stuff, and their work has been featured by Good Morning America, Kidscreen, Teen Vogue, and so many more. They've even got a TEDtalk. They've written and consulted on kids shows like The Fabulous Show with Fay and Fluffy, the Webby-award winning Blues Clues, and You Pride Parade music video for Nick Jr. Lindz is like a modern day queer and non-binary Mr. Rogers. Making media for the next generation is what they do, which is why I thought they'd be the perfect person to talk with when it came to kids, identity, gender, and how to navigate it all as a parent. We absolutely get into it in the best way possible. And answer questions like, when do kids fundamentally understand their gender? How can you not screw up when your kid comes out? And why that last question is actually kind of problematic? Why is there so little queer kids content? And are things actually getting better for queer kids? Or is it maybe worse than it's ever been? We're so excited about this conversation. Buckle up. Special Report: ⚠️ **Grab your grown-up for this episode as we talk about gun violence and gun safety.
"How do you talk to kids about queerness?" "How can a kid know how they identify gender or sexuality-wise?" "How do you deal with backlash from those who think kids shouldn't know about 'these things'?" “Why is it important for kids to see queerness represented in media?”On this episode, I interview Lindz Amer (they/them), the creator of Queer Kid Stuff: a web series and media outlet that imagines a kinder and more equal future through highly-accessible education and entertainment for kids ages 3+. Lindz launched QKS in 2015 with their best stuffed friend Teddy as a way to make seemingly complex subjects like Queerness, Pronouns, Racism, Religion, Homophobia, and many others easy for kids to understand. Lindz says how they did it as a way to not only help kids understand but parents as well. They, ultimately, wanted to create something that they would have loved to have seen when they were a kid. Representation and support from family and friends can make a tremendous impact on a young queer kid. Aside from this show, we also discuss the evolution of representation in kid's media and why the representation needs to be explicitly visible and not just hinted at. As Lindz and I discuss their journey as an activist and creator of QKS, we also talk about the backlash they've faced from those who don't understand the work they do. We talk about why Queerness and LGBTQ+ topics seem to be deemed too sexual or too hard for kids to understand. It’s never too early to talk to kids about equality. From an early age, we should give them the tools and language to see themselves and interact with the actual realities of the people they will encounter in their lives. This is incredibly important work and something that Lindz Amer does so well. Lindz Amer is the creator of Queer Kid Stuff. They create media for all kids with queer representation. There is abundant queer representation and resources for teens, but it’s very scarce for young children, so I love that Lindz speaks to that demographic. In this episode, we are talking about Queer Kid Stuff as well as their new podcast, Activist, You! Show Highlights: How Queer Kid Stuff and Activist, You! overlap and interact with each other. How Lindz identifies and the work they do. The lenses we put on to clarify how we see the world as we grow up. What it means to be an activist. The interview that was the most impactful for Lindz. We’re excited to welcome two very special guests to Gaslit Nation to bring some much needed light: Raquel Willis, a leading Black transgender activist and Director of Communications for the Ms. Foundation, and Lindsay 'Lindz' Amer, the creator and co-host of the YouTube channel Queer Kid Stuff. As the summer rages on, and so does the pandemic and corruption in the White House, it’s never been more important to support the next generation of light-makers -- LGBTQ youth. Here's how.
Lindsay ‘Lindz’ Amer creates LGBTQ+ and social justice media for kids and families. Through their multi-media production company, Queer Kid Creative, they write, produce, and co-host Queer Kid Stuff, an original LGBTQ+ educational webseries for all ages, and a brand new family-friendly podcast called Activist, You! where they explore social justice topics through interviews with kid & youth activists. They perform QKS music and stories at schools, museums, libraries, and local LGBTQ+ community centers around the country. They recently performed to a packed house at the Bill and Melinda Gates Discovery Center in Seattle, WA as a part of Amplifier’s We The Future Campaign. Artwork from the campaign depicting Lindsay has been distributed to over 13,000 schools and seen by an estimated 500,000 students nation-wide. They are a fellow with The Coaching Fellowship, a Creative Resident at SPACE on Ryder Farm, and a TED Resident, they were named a Rising Star by GLAAD, a 2018 Queero by them.us, were a 2018 Webby Honoree, and have received grants from the Tegan and Sara Foundation, Made in NYC Women’s Media Fund, the Awesome Project, and VidCon’s Emerging Creator program. The Huffington Post calls Queer Kid Stuff a “groundbreaking YouTube educational resource.” Teen Vogue praised their episode on consent during the height of #MeToo that “shows exactly why there’s no excuse not to grasp consent. Even toddlers can understand it.” And @shondarhimes tweeted she’s “so here for this!” Lindz is currently developing a picture book, scripts for television, and a full-length screenplay about a non-binary kid!Support the show (https://www.patreon.com/transcasterradio)

Lindsay Amer is someone we all should be aware of. Their TED talk, launched in June 2019, surpassed one million views within just a few weeks. This seven-minute video, which you should watch or listen to as soon as you can, begins with Lindsay singing and playing the theme song to their four-season YouTube video series called Queer Kids Stuff and ends with a very real entreaty for better LGBTQ+ representation in media and better conversations with kids, to arm them with a better understanding of the world outside the mainly heterosexual-presenting and cis, or normal, gender environment that makes up most media consumed by both kids and adults. The Queer Kid Stuff video series is very different from the Minecraft streams and political vitriol that makes up a lot of what uncurated YouTube has become. It’s fresh, bright, friendly, upbeat, welcoming, entertaining, and educational. All done with Lindsay, the engaging host, and their co-host, a voiced-over teddy bear, behind a desk covered in letter blocks that spell out words like ‘Intersex.’ Queer Kid Stuff is uncomfortable in a heteronormative world, and that’s the point. Lindsay Amer’s professional theatric and media life has centered around pushing the bleeding-edge boundary of what we’re okay with, backed by a very real urgency: to reach kids who may be struggling now with the sorts of topics they cover in their videos. Success is weird. What is it about creation and creativity that draws us, pulls at our souls to do something outside ourselves? It’s a wrongness with the world, a missing piece or an injustice or something about yourself that needs to grow and fill the space inside. And what happens when you grow and finish and do and become isn’t always painless and is instead frequently quite painful and difficult. The simple act of creating anything new in the world is difficult enough, let alone putting into that creation a passion informed by pain and struggle, knowing that hateful, bigoted headwinds are coming and won’t let up for a minute. Still. Lindsay has kept it up for four years and shows no signs of slowing down. Please enjoy as we explore Lindsay Amer’s verse! #VerseShow comprises conversations that give voice to creators, their process, their struggles, and the celebrations of their work. It's an interview podcast with a bend toward curiosity about the creative process.

Lindsay Amer is the creator of "Queer Kid Stuff," an educational video series that breaks down complex ideas around gender and sexuality through songs and metaphors. By giving kids and their families a vocabulary to express themselves, Amer is helping to create more empathetic adults -- and spreading a message of radical acceptance in a world where it's sometimes dangerous to just be yourself. "I want kids to grow up and into themselves with pride for who they are and who they can be," Amer says. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

Talk to kids about gender, sexuality, and social justice with Lindsay Amer You've probably seen the viral videos of Lindsay Amer's Queer Kid Stuff show because I've been seeing them EVERYWHERE. Of course, I had to reach out to Lindsay to talk about what they're creating because it's so adorable and important. We chat about Lindsay's coming out process, first as gay and more recently as non-binary, and why it's so important to Lindsay to make content for kids around gender, sexuality, bullying, and social justice. We dive into the feedback they've gotten, plus what it was like to be on Dylan Marron's show talking with someone who left a hateful comment. We wonder what it might be like to live in a world where our identity and gender are encouraged to be fluid and explored from the youngest of ages, and what it means to choose authentic community and relationships that honor the complexity of who you are. Plus, Patreon supporters, if you support the show at $3/month and above, you score weekly bonus content that you can't find anywhere else. This week, Lindsay and I talk all about Steven Universe, which is one of Lindsay's favorite shows. Part two of our children's episode is an interview with Lindsay Amer, the creator and host of the YouTube channel Queer Kid Stuff. We talk to them about their co-host Teddy, a nonbinary teddy bear, their favorite show Danger and Eggs, and the hate that inevitably comes with being a pioneer in one's field. Then we finish off with a spooky Halloween game, which would have been perfectly timed if this episode had come out last Monday. But since when have we ever been topical??? Find Lindsay on social media @QueerKidStuff and @thelamerist! This week we're talking to a demographic that neither of us knows how to address: children! If you have a child, play this episode for them! If you are a child, you're too young to have your own iTunes account! (But please subscribe.) We talk about everything from Julie's Greenroom to the breaking news of Andi Mack's historic coming out scene, and discover yet another incredibly popular franchise that Jaye had never heard of until it featured some lesbians. We also have the return of everyone's favorite (?) segment, ONE MORE THING REENACTMENTS!!! We'll see you on Monday for part two of this episode: an interview with Lindsay Amer of Queer Kid Stuff!
