Fingers crossed for a Blue Wave, eh? Maybe it's not your thing…thank you for listening anyway. This show is about featuring soundcast clips and doing interviews with folks related to soundcasts, usually of a comedic nature. For instance, last week in Episode #328, show creator and executive producer Marc Hershon brought you a well-packed candy bag of clips from the soundcasts Endless Honeymoon, Hamish & Andy, DorkNation, and Callan's Kicks…PLUS a clip from frequent guest of Succotash Dana Carvey's new scripted comedy soundcast The Weird Place AND a poignant parody song from Succotash producer Joe Paulino called "Young Man", which is a take on Neil Young's "Old Man" and is credited to "Neil Olde". So, there's a LOT going on in that episode, and I urge you to check it out at your earliest convenience. You can still find it wherever you find soundcasts to listen to as well as in the show archive over at www.succotashshow.com. This week, in THIS show, I've got clips for you from the soundcasts known as My Pleasure, Gender Reveal, and Pen Pals. I've also got a Henderson's Pants ad for you that probably would have been more thematically appropriate a couple weeks ago but…oh well. They ARE a fake sponsor after all so… it's not like they are a secret government organization paying close attention to what we do or something daft like that. Anyway, thank you for listening. I now present to you the roster of this episode's clips: CLIPS My PleasureThe show description goes: "Welcome to My Pleasure. Listen every Thursday for the latest hot girl homework, taste of the week and top 5-ish from Esther Povitsky." Our clip was snipped from the episode the dropped from October 20th, just last month, ansdwas entitled, "Esther Anonymous", in which Esther dipped into chat about 12-step program talk, top five favorite movies to re-watch, and a NEW take on Kanye. Gender Reveal Hosted by Tuck Woodstock, the show's description reads: "Welcome to Gender Reveal, a podcast about nonbinary and transgender folks. Join us as we interview notable trans guests, analyze current events, answer advice questions and get a little bit closer to understanding what the heck gender is." OUr clips is from a-ways back. 4 years back, in fact, from January 16th of 2018 - with guest Eden Rohatensky, whom Tuck talks to about such topics as adding a non-binary voice to the #MeToo movement, the difficulties of coming out as non-binary in other languages, how coming out helped Eden recognize their privilege, navigating the tech industry as a non-straight-white-dude, and exploring the question: Is gender a spooky ghost? The Pen Pals PodcastAs the show's description promises: "Every week, your pen pals, Daniel Van Kirk and Rory Scovel, respond to the letters you send them on topics ranging from free will to freeway etiquette, from mental health to manatees. Seek advice. Tell a story. Vent. Send a letter. It's your podcast, we just talk about it." Our featured clip is lovingly harvested from their episode from just a few week's ago, on October 26th, 2022, and features a guest: Chad Daniels. It's entitled "RE: Turning 40 & Chips". Once you've given this 'sode a listen that will be another installment in the past…well most of it anyway; there's still this part left: The part where I say that I hope you find something enjoyable in this presentation of curated content handpicked specially for you, the listener. It's the part where I urge you to check out my other content over at www.tysonsaner.com and also this show's archive at www.succotashshow.com because, after you leave us, I would hope that you would seek to spend more time with us in your future. You could wait until next week when show #330 drops, most likely to be hosted by Mr. Hershon who is, no doubt at this very moment, like actually NOW in MY timeline, on the hunt for the content that he will undoubtedly bring you. So, until next time I talk to you, be decent to each other, consider leaving a 5-star review of our show, and if someone you know is in search of something to listen to, but doesn't know where to start, won't you please pass the Succotash? — Tyson Saner

TransLash Podcast with Imara Jones

From the work of Marsha P. Johnson and Sylvia Rivera to the Covid-19 pandemic, mutual aid has long been key to trans survival. To find out what trans mutual aid looks like today, Imara speaks with organizers Asanni Armon and Tuck Woodstock. First, Asanni explains how party-based organization For the Gworls is disrupting conventional approaches to fundraising and aid distribution for Black trans people. They discuss how their approach to crowdsourcing and collaborating with traditional non-profits has changed over the years. Next, Imara talks with Tuck Woodstock about the Gender Reveal mutual aid and grant program. They highlight the role of trust, frustration, and joy in this work, and the impact that a few hundred dollars can have amidst the systemic failure of the state.Follow TransLash Media @translashmedia on Instagram, Twitter and Facebook.Follow Imara Jones on Twitter (@ImaraJones) and Instagram (@Imara_jones_)Follow our guests on social media!Asanni Armon @asanniarmon (Instagram and Twitter)Tuck Woodstock: @tuckwoodstock (Twitter) @tuckwoodstockjr (Instagram) TransLash Podcast is produced by Translash Media.Translash Team: Imara Jones, Oliver-Ash Kleine, Aubrey Calaway. What are the pitfalls of “just trying to help”? Well-meaning people sometimes make things more complicated. And some systems ostensibly meant to “help” those in need cause more harm than good. Nyge explores good intentions gone wrong, and how that plays out in the trans experience in conversation with journalist Tuck Woodstock, host of the “Gender Reveal” podcast. Plus, disability justice activist Stefanie Lyn Kaufman-Mthimkhulu helps unpack how our mental health “care” system can create unintended harm and trauma. Many of us never think to question our own gender identity... but should we? And what happens when someone close to us begins that kind of exploration? In this very personal episode, Claire sits down with her eldest child Vera, and trans activist Tuck Woodstock to talk about the world of gender identity. It's been over a year since Vera started to identify as non-binary. While this has been an exciting new journey for Vera, it's been a learning opportunity for Claire, as she struggles to remember to use Vera's correct pronouns. Lines are crossed, mistakes are made, and lessons are learned in this vulnerable conversation. This episode's practice is about exploring your own gender identity and how to support others as they do the same.   Resources from the show Listen to Tuck's podcast Gender Reveal. In 2017, the AP Stylebook approved the use of "they" as a singular pronoun to reflect the changing ways in which we use language to identify gender. For some, transitioning to a new, inclusive vocabulary has come naturally. For others, it has led to confusion and a struggle to keep up to date to ensure accurate coverage of those lying outside of the gender binary or those who do not identify as cisgender. We are joined by Kelly Bauer from Block Club Chicago, Tuck Woodstock from Sylveon Counseling and Kelly McBride from Poynter to explore how journalists can be inclusive and respectful of the trans community and gender diversity in their reporting. This episode is hosted by Carol Marin and produced by Justin Myers with music by Max Duggan. We got to spend some time with Swift co-founder and head honcho Martina Brimmer at the 2020 RAR Gravel camp last year, and her joy and enthusiasm for cycling has been a source of encouragement from the very beginning. Thanks Swift, we’ll see you on the trail. SERIES DESCRIPTION Radical Adventure Riders (RAR) and Race.Ancestors.Health.Outdoors.Knowledge (RAHOK) present the Within & Without podcast. A series of off the chain dispatches from BIPoC and Allies discussing tensions within the cycling community and how we connect to ourselves and the world around us through cycling and the outdoors. These conversations help move us toward transformation:a transformation that centers the freedom and justice of our earth, amplifies voices from across the gender spectrum, and centers Black, Indigenous and People of Color. We acknowledge the energy of discomfort these conversations may bring and hope this very energy will help shift the greater dialogue to support the changes needed in outdoor and cycling communities - and our world.

Federal agents lined up in Portland, Ore. Photo by Tuck Woodstock On this show: 0:08 – Trump's Postmaster General, a major donor to the Trump campaign, is cracking down on work hours by deliberately instructing USPS employees to cut their routes short and delay First Class mail. Why is the agency deliberately underfunded, and what does this mean for its future? Philip Rubio is professor of history at North Carolina A&T State University and author of the book Undelivered: From the Great Postal Strike of 1970 to the Manufactured Crisis of the U.S. Postal Service. 0:34 – Santa Rita is reporting over 100 cases of Covid-19. For more on the outbreak we talk with Jose Bernal of the Ella Baker Center for Human Rights, Sikander Iqbal of Urban Peace Movement, who has a friend inside the jail, and Darby Aono (@darbyaono), a student at Berkeley Law who has been tracking the cases inside. 1:08 – Federal agents made national news for snatching protesters off of Portland, Oregon streets and tear gassing crowds at uprisings for racial justice and against police repression. But Portland independent journalist Tuck Woodstock (@tuckwoodstock) says the frightening tactics of the federal agents are not that different from those of the Portland Police Bureau or Multnomah County Sheriffs, which residents have already been enduring. Woodstock, who has covered the protests since May, gives us an on-the-ground update.  1:20 – Ken Klippenstein is a D.C. correspondent with The Nation. He obtained an internal memo about the role of Border Patrol agents in cracking down on protesters in Portland. Read his recent reporting here. 1:45 – Tonight, Oakland's city council will finally vote on a possible significant reduction in the police budget. James Burch is Policy Coordinator with the Anti-Police Terror Project, he joins us to talk about the vote. Community members who want to attend the meeting can download the agenda here.   The post Protests continue in Portland under brutal police and federal repression; How the crisis at the U.S. Postal Service undermines elections by mail; Covid spreads at Santa Rita Jail appeared first on KPFA.
