She went on to Tufts Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine located in Grafton, Massachusetts, receiving her DVM in 1991. Her career since graduation has been dedicated to working with sport horses all over the United States. She spent 6 years at a busy equine referral clinic in Illinois where she focused primarily on lameness. This move exposed her to the most advanced diagnostic and therapeutic techniques available in the sport horse industry. She was able to refine her skills in all imaging modalities and attend clinics devoted to lameness diagnosis and treatment.Dr. Heart began her training in Acupuncture at the Chi Institute of Traditional Chinese Veterinary Medicine in 2003 with Dr Huisheng Xie DVM, MS, PhD. She completed her certification in Veterinary Acupuncture in 2005. She is currently working on her Masters in Chinese Herbal Medicine at the Chi Institute. She has also trained with Marvin Cain DVM (Acupuncture), Jean-Michel Boudard (Osteopathy), and Carl J. DeStephano (Applied Kinesiology/Functional Neurology). It is the integration of this career path that has led Dr. Heart to the concepts of restorative healing. This modality helps the nervous system attempt to achieve its maximum potential allowing your animal to function to the best of its ability. They will utilize a series of manual adjustments in an attempt to restore normal motion to the joints of your animal's body. The science of chiropractic care has discovered throughout the last one hundred years that misalignment of joints (subluxation), especially the vertebrae, adversely alters nerve function from around those areas. Altered nerve impulses leaving the spinal column can adversely affect the function of organs and tissues supplied by that nerve. This altered function can lead to pain, disease, fatigue, muscle weakness, poor balance, immune suppression, etc. Animal chiropractic is the art, science, and philosophy that releases the body's inherent recuperative powers and allows the body to deal with the relationship between the nervous system and the spinal column and its associated structures. Remember, the power that made the body heals the body, it happens no other way.

Today on "The Laser Light Show," we are pleased to introduce a guest whose diverse veterinary experiences and specialized interests make him a beacon in the field of animal healthcare. Dr. Dave Huff's journey, skills, and innovations promise a rich discussion, particularly as it relates to low level laser therapy for animals. Hailing from the prestigious NC State College of Veterinary Medicine, Dr. Dave Huff began his journey into the world of veterinary practice in 1989. After dedicating two years to a small animal facility in Pennsylvania, his roots called him back to North Carolina, where he served both small and large animals at the Neuse River Veterinary Hospital in Wendell. His journey then took him south to Beaufort, South Carolina, for four enriching years, but like a compass pointing north, he found himself back at Neuse River Veterinary Hospital in 1999, a testament to his enduring connection to the community. Throughout his illustrious career, Dr. Huff has nurtured an array of interests and specialties, with a particular flair for small animal surgery. One of his groundbreaking affiliations began in 1991 with ICG/Synbiotics/Zoetis, establishing him as a pioneer in canine semen freezing. Notably, he was the first in North Carolina to launch such a center, and among the first three on the entire east coast—a true trailblazer! Always on the lookout for ways to enhance his practice, in 1996, Dr. Huff undertook PennHip radiograph training, adding another feather to his cap. But his passion didn't stop there. Venturing into the realm of chiropractic care for animals, Dr. Huff has been an advocate and practitioner since 1999. One of the highlights for our podcast discussion will undoubtedly be his adoption of the Erchonia 3 LT in 2009. With over a decade of experience utilizing this specific tool for his patients, his insights will surely offer a unique perspective on the application and benefits of low-level laser therapy in veterinary practice. So, listeners, as we delve deep into the nuances of low-level laser therapy with a veterinary twist, we are in the capable hands of Dr. Dave Huff—a true connoisseur in his field. Let's embark on this illuminating conversation!

We have an amazing topic that we're going to be discussing today that you won't want to miss! Today, Dr. Katie talks with Dr. Petra Sullwold! She graduated from Life West Chiropractic College in 2007 and received her Animal Chiropractic Certification through Options for Animals in 2008. She has been an avid equestrian since age four. She loves the variety of her work and has a deep passion for chiropractic history and philosophy as it pertains to animal chiropractic. She has spent countless hours at the Palmer Davenport Archives to gain a deeper understanding of animal chiropractic's past. What many chiropractors don't understand is that animal chiropractic may not be covered under your human chiropractic statute in your place of residency. With this knowledge, Dr. Petra started to gain traction in the state of Colorado to help change the laws so animals could have access to well-qualified, certified, and licensed professionals. She and many others worked tirelessly to change these laws between the veterinary medical association and the Colorado Chiropractic Association. After a full year of negotiations, their Chiropractic Practice Act was passed allowing Doctors of Chiropractic to adjust animals! So join us today to learn how you can start navigating change where you live to help animals have access to chiropractic care!Topics covered in this episode:How Dr. Petra has helped change the laws in Colorado, so animals have more access to well-qualified, certified, and licensed providersThe benefits of working with your chiropractic association to bring about change in your stateThe different strategies you can use to help you get startedThe barriers that may be holding your bill back and how to overcome those challenges along the wayThe importance of knowing your audienceHow the laws in Colorado were before and after the bill passed, and how it has changed Dr. Petra's practiceHow B.J. In this episode, Dr Tracy Rainwaters and I have a open conversation about how to navigate the loss of an animal before, during and after their passing based on our experiences so far. For those who haven't heard Tracy on the podcast before, she is a Shaman, Animal Communicator, Animal Chiropractor, Energy Healer and just an incredible human being. I am so grateful to have had this discussion with her because the lessons she shares about animals passing is not only practical, but it is deeply healing because she approaches it from all angles. She connects with the animal before it happens (if she can), she connects with other herd members before, during and after and also shares her experience grieving the loss of an animal after losing her mare Tina only a few weeks ago. I also share some of my experiences around losing animals in the past, and after talking with Tracy, I now have some more knowledge about how to make that experience as smooth as possible for all parties involved. I am sure you will feel a similar way after you listen to this episode too. Join me for the career story reflections of Dr. Debbie O’Reilly, Human & Animal Chiropractor, Acupuncturist & Holistic Healer. Initially her career choices were guided by how fast she could get started. She did not want to go to school for very long because she was ready to get started on her career. An amusing statement when you look at the amount of schooling she’s been through and that she considers herself an education junkie. A pivotal moment was a dream sending a message that she should become a chiropractor. A message she tries to ignore but finally gives in to. Just one of many messages, or intuitions, that has guided her through life and her career. Words of wisdom from Dr. Debbie: “Sometimes your path is not what you think it’s going to be. You have the ability to change your mind, as you just don’t know where the path leads. Have the courage to move forward and try something different, even when it’s scary.” --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app

In this session I talk about my struggles with low self-esteem, inferiority, and the expectancy of rejection, and attempt to encourage those of us in a similar boat to reach out. Jay Komarek and Petra Sullwold, was spectacular - except when I locked my keys in the Suburban in a coin-operated car wash.Dr. Jack Bourla offered an excellent conversation about communicating chiropractic. Chiropractic is important not only to humans but also to animals too. It does not only limit to domestic animals but also includes adjusting animals that are part of the food supply. Being able to perform chiropractic on animals provides a lot of benefits not only to the animal itself but also to the environment. On this episode, we have Dr. Bill Ormston. He received a BS in Animal Science in 1982 and a veterinary degree in 1982, both from Iowa State University. He became a certified Animal Chiropractor in 1998. Dr. Bill talks about how he got into Animal Chiropractic and his experiences adjusting animals. He also shares the effects of adjusting animals to the community. Dr. Nels Rasmussen, Animal Chiropractor and Spiritual Animal Healer “Everyone else is saying ‘There’s just no hope anymore,’ and I’m here to say there is.” Dr. Nels Rasmussen is a third-generation animal chiropractor who now works as a spiritual animal healer in neuroenergetic balancing. In the early days of his practice he worked with paralyzed and injured horses, restoring them to riding shape. Now, he works mostly with dogs and some cats and horses. Dr. Rasmussen believes that many injuries and behavioral problems that have veterinarians stumped can be solved by resetting the fight-or-flight response and restoring the energy balance within the animal. In his nearly forty years of practice, Dr. Rasmussen has seen incredible results in his patients and saved many animals from unnecessary euthanization due to mobility issues. For more information on Dr. Rasmussen’s work, or to schedule a thirty-minute phone consultation about an animal in your care, please visit healingministryforanimals.com.
