Apparently the Coat of Arms debate rages on as the Tassa Association wants the real Trini instrument on the emblem instead of the imported steelpan. Brilliant! It's an episode of dualities as we discuss the mourning as the news of the closing of the famed Carrat Shed in Marabella spread against the backdrop of apparent celebration of the woes of Movie Towne. It's a mixed bag when it comes to the reactions to the passing of Lawrence Duprey, once heralded as one of the greatest businessmen in the region. We do a deep dive into his legacy and the unfair tainting of his name and the hostile takeover of his businesses masked as a financial bailout. The music in this episode is a direct response to the divisive statement made by the Tassa Association of Trinidad & Tobago suggesting that Steelpan isn't 100% Trinidadian.Enjoy!!
Send us a Text Message.Could you imagine uncovering your roots halfway around the world? This episode brings you the heartfelt story of Santo Marabella, who was born in Aosta, Italy, and adopted by a loving family in America. Santo sheds light on his early life at the Instituto Asistenza Materna e Infantile and the touching way his adoptive parents, Anna and Sam Marabella, revealed his adoption to him. We also dive into the historical context of the "baby scoop" era, during which thousands of Italian babies found new homes in America, adding a layer of emotional and historical depth to Santo's journey.Santo's tale takes a dramatic turn with an unexpected reunion in Italy, a trip initially planned for a friend's wedding that evolved into a life-changing quest to find his biological family. Listen as Santo recounts the emotional highs and lows of meeting his parents and siblings for the first time, saying bittersweet farewells, and the enduring promise of staying in touch. This chapter of Santo's life is filled with heartwarming moments, language barriers, and the ongoing hope of reuniting with his younger sister after decades of separation. The journey doesn't stop there. Santo opens up about the profound grief and healing process following the loss of his adoptive parents and a beloved pet. Volunteering at an animal shelter and reconnecting with his Italian family became pivotal in his healing journey. Explore themes of belonging, identity, and the importance of understanding one's ancestry, as Santo uncovers fascinating connections to both American and Italian heritage. In today's episode, The Practical Prof®, Dr. Santo D. Marabella talks with his friend (and former student), Landon Eckles, about the healthy food company he and his wife, Kat, started.Landon Eckles found himself at a crossroads in life. After spending five years in sales and management in the pharmaceutical industry in his early career, Landon moved into a Managing Partner role for Rose Rock Group, a global investment management firm specializing in Asia specific projects, in 2012. Although this career was exciting, the weeks of international travel required for the position was not conducive to a healthy and balanced family life he had often envisioned - especially with his wife, Kat, at home with 4 children (at the time, now 5 children). In 2014, while chatting about life on their family ski boat with their children and other family members, Kat and Landon officially decided to change their life's course by quitting their jobs, moving from Pennsylvania, and opening up an organic juice bar. Within a year, they opened their flagship Clean Juice store in Huntersville, NC and the rest is organic history. Currently, there are over 100 Clean Juice locations open across the country with many more in active development. Additionally, in 2020, Landon completed the acquisition of a non-toxic nail and beauty bar and rebranded the company to Freecoat nails. The first franchises have been awarded and several stores are set to open in 2021. Landon puts his faith first and is inspired daily by entrepreneurship, leadership, business, and team management. In late 2020, Landon was named to one of the Most Admired CEOs by the Charlotte Business Journal and is highly sought after as a public speaker. He is also an active member of the Charlotte, NC area Vistage CEO group, his family's church in Elevation Lake Norman, and spends the rest of his time chasing his five young children. Landon graduated from Moravian College with a B.A. in Business Administration in 2007.Support the show (https://paypal.me/MarabellaLLC?locale.x=en_US)

National Geographic Channel 2009 As far as we know, life is unique to Earth. So how did it come to be? And why here? We’ve all wondered about the origins of life, but one scientist in San Diego believes that he and his mentor found the answer. Dr. Jeffrey Bada at UC San Diego, sheds new light on renowned scientist Stanley Miller’s controversial experiment from a half century ago. Like Miller, Bada recreates conditions on Earth before life began 4 billion years ago. But this time, Bada introduces 21st century technology that Miller could only dream of. While cameras roll, the San Diego scientist mixes up a batch of “primordial ooze,” then, similar to the mythical Dr. Frankenstein, zaps it with a bolt of electricity—“primordial lightning.” The results? Amino acids, the building blocks of all life. It was this stunning experiment that first demonstrated that life could have evolved spontaneously from a combination of chemical processes present on early Earth. Still, how could these amino acids evolve to become bacteria, animals, and eventually humans? How did life start reproducing itself from something that isn’t alive?
National Geographic Channel 2009Earth Without The Moon reveals the startling fact that the Moon is receding from Earth and is gaining speed each year. The moon is a stabilizing force for Earth, enabling life to originate, evolve, and exist over the last 4 billion years. However, when it recedes just 10% further from Earth, the Earth will tip up to 90 degrees on its axis, creating endless catastrophes. Extreme temperature swings will push oceans to the poles and ice to the equator; massive dust storms and hurricanes will last hundreds of years; rising sea levels will submerge cities like New York and Rio de Janeiro. Without our Moon, life as we know it will perish from the Earth.
