Welcome back to Holy Sh!t We're Alive! We've got a double podcast this week with this episode going live both here on Holy Sh!t We're Alive and on the Look Up Podcast with Marc Weinstein. Marc and I met at an Ayahuasca ceremony 4 years ago and then reconnected about a year and a half later at another ceremony. At that first Ayahuasca ceremony, we both had incredible experiences that have played a large role in our own individual journeys of self-growth, and we've enjoyed staying in contact over the years to share our experiences with each other. In this episode we'll be talking about psychedelics, self-love, relationships, the success void, my new book, and more. We'll be sharing personal experiences on our different paths to spiritual growth, mindfulness, and overall wellness, as well as tackling some of the inner stories we've had to overcome. Also, did I mention that I have space for two new private coaching clients? If you're interested in finding out more, DM me on Instagram and we can set up a call. Questions, Comments? What doesn’t Mark Weinstein do? As an investor, advisor, entrepreneur, certified yoga instructor, as well as a podcast host and editor for Wave Financial, this guy knows a thing or two about being busy. With everything that Marc does, it’s unsurprising that he is interested in the concept of humane technology and taking back agency from our devices. It gets pretty meta from the get-go—we dive into the history of podcasts and take a look at how far they’ve come. Marc talks about social media, how much all those stats really matter, and how we can push back against the epidemic of distraction. Listen & Subscribe on iTunes   FOMO is a curious term being used in pop culture that means "Fear Of Missing Out" and its reach has exponentially grown with the growing popularity of social media. There are many examples of events and happenings that have induced FOMO over the years, but perhaps none have had a greater viral reach and effect on pop culture as 2017's FYRE Festival.   And if there's anyone that can just how much FOMO the festival generated, it's Marc Weinstein.   Having once been in charge of logistics for the festival, Marc is now a venture advisory, investor, yoga instructor, and advocate for blockchain technology. But having worked four weeks (around the clock) for a festival that never happened and participating in a documentary that where he didn't know how he would be portrayed has taught him many lessons about FOMO, success, the effects of social media, and the need for authenticity in our interactions (digital or otherwise).   To hear his story of why he chose to continue with FYRE even though he could see the signs of what was to come, the lessons he's learned after the fact, how we can reduce our FOMO on social media, and why blockchain is crucial for our technological future, check out Episode 231 of People Being Real!     Enjoy!!   Connect with Mark Shapiro: Instagram | Facebook | Twitter Connect with Marc Weinstein: Instagram | Twitter | LinkedIn     Show Notes: -Lessons Marc learned from working on FYRE Festival. -Positive effects from the aftermath of the festival and the documentaries. -Marc's take on FOMO and Authenticity in the digital age. -What's Marc's primary motivation for posting on social media? -The future of civilization and the importance of blockchain technologies.     Things to check out:• Lesson From The Fyre: What I Learned From Working On The Disasterous Fyre Festival • The Look Up! Why is Instagram awesome? Among other reasons, because it deepened The Spaniard's interest in Marc Weinstein (who he first got to know through Spartan Race's podfest) as he observed Marc's uplifting energy and commitment to spirituality. Why is Netflix awesome? Among other reasons, because The Spaniard became even more interested in Marc when he saw him in the much-viewed documentary on the Fyre Festival. It left him thinking, ”This is a really deep guy who leaves me feeling better.” Marc is the Spaniard's first guest to mention how much he benefited from reading the Tao Te Ching. This discussion offers great insights into trusting yourself even as you respect authority, the limits of choice, an abundance mindset, being thoughtful about technology, and more. Interview location: Los AngelesInterview date: Monday 18th March, 2019Company: Wave FinancialRole: PrincipalThe two documentaries on Netflix and Hulu about the Fyre Festival highlight what can go disastrously wrong when you pitch a grand vision which can’t be delivered. The Fyre Festival was sold as the ultimate music festival, situated on a beautiful island with the best artists, food and accommodation.A highly successful marketing campaign working with influencers created a buzz around the festival, and it sold old almost immediately, but the team did not have the money or means to deliver the vision. Both documentaries highlight how chaotic the organisation of the festival was and how the lead organiser, Billy McFarland resorted to fraud to try and keep his vision alive. In this interview, I talk with Marc Weinstein, who featured heavily in the Netflix documentary about what happened on the island and how the team worked around the clock to try and make it happen. Marc reveals what it is like to organise a festival and how ill-prepared the Fyre team was. We also talk about crypto, Bitcoin and the stresses and pressures life can throw at you.-----If you enjoy The What Bitcoin Did Podcast you can help support the show my doing the following:Become a Patron and get access to shows early or help contributeMake a tip:Bitcoin: 3FiC6w7eb3dkcaNHMAnj39ANTAkv8Ufi2SQR Codes: Bitcoin | Ethereum | Litecoin | Monero | ZCash | RipplecoinIf you do send a tip then please email me so that I can say thank youSubscribe on iTunes | Spotify | Stitcher | SoundCloud | YouTube | TuneIn | RSS FeedLeave a review on iTunesShare the show and episodes with your friends and familySubscribe to the newsletter on my websiteFollow me on Twitter Personal | Twitter Podcast | Instagram | Medium | YouTubeIf you are interested in sponsoring the show, you can read more about that here or please feel free to drop me an email to discuss options.

In this episode, Sal, Adam, and Justin speak with Marc Weinstein, who was featured in Netflix's just released documentary Fyre. Marc goes into detail about what led him to work with the festival, why he stayed to the disastrous end and what he learned from the experience. This is a very interesting conversation with a behind the scene look at the music festival business, the power of social media and the damage that one charismatic sociopath can inflict. What Marc does for a living, his background and how he connected with Mind Pump? (2:06) What are some of the most profitable music festivals and the challenges you would face starting one? (8:50) Did he know what he was getting into when he switched from finance to event production? (14:50) How he ‘fell' into the music industry. (18:09) Why the events industry is always a mess and the need to just ‘figure it out'. (21:10) How did he meet Billy McFarland and the founders of the Fyre Festival? (23:45) How did he deal with the coordination and stress of trying to accommodate the festival guests? (38:40) What were the conversations like with the other members of the production team while this debacle was going on? (42:37) Was there a thought process to postpone? (45:27) How did he coordinate the festival guests off the island and when did he discover that Billy had committed wire fraud? (48:40) Was he afraid at any point the locals would get violent? (52:50) Who owns the footage from the documentary? Are we contributing to this sociopath? (53:48) How Fyre is just a microcosm of how social media portrays our lives. (58:55) What is the aftermath from this? (1:01:23) Does he find it cathartic to talk about it? Make amends with GoFundMe pages? How we could use social media for good. (1:03:40) How does he feel he has evolved from this? His take on the social media revolution. (1:09:00) Does he see an advantage of events like Burning Man unplugging from technology? (1:17:00) What practices does he implement to cope with social media addiction? (1:18:37) What is he currently pursuing?
