When the 2021 NFL schedule came out, Buffalo Bills fans immediately circled Week 5 on their calendars, the week the Bills return to Arrowhead Stadium for a showdown with the Kansas City Chiefs in a rematch of the AFC Championship game. On the latest episode of the Billieve Podcast, hosts John Boccacino and Jamie D'Amico have everything you need to know to get ready as Buffalo looks to earn a statement win on Sunday Night Football. Among the topics discussed: Josh Allen had two of the worst performances of his career in losses to the Chiefs in 2020, including in the AFC title game. What can Allen do to settle into a groove and solve Chiefs defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo's aggressive defense? Is this a statement game for the Bills? Why, despite a matchup of two of the league's top aerial attacks, unlocking the ground game could hold the key to winning Sunday night's primetime clash. The important role that rookie offensive lineman Spencer Brown holds to unleashing Zack Moss, Devin Singletary and the rushing attack. How Buffalo's ground game has enjoyed a solid start to the season, and why the Bills should be able to run on the Chiefs. Why veteran wideout Emmanuel Sanders could help Allen avoid a repeat of the erratic performances from last year against the Chiefs. How it is important for Greg Rousseau, Jerry Hughes, Mario Addison, A.J. Epenesa and Buffalo's front four to generate pressure on Patrick Mahomes, without resorting to exotic blitzes. The X-factor to Buffalo's defensive successes so far through four weeks? Defensive tackle Star Lotulelei. What, if anything, the Bills can do to contain prolific tight end Travis Kelce. Whether defensive coordinator/assistant head coach Leslie Frazier should follow a similar game plan to last year, when the Bills allowed running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire to get his while sitting back and not allowing Mahomes to pick the D apart. Boccacino and D'Amico then offer up their score predictions for the game. Feel free to leave yours in the comments section. On the episode of the future award-winning Talking Buffalo Podcast, Patrick Moran has a conversation with Joe Miller, host of the Overreaction Sports Podcast and co-host of the Hump Day Hotline on a variety of topics focused on observations from Buffalo Bills training camp so far. Pat and Joe attended last Saturday's Bills open practice and sat together, noticing several things going on with the team. That coupled with daily reports from some of the team's credible beat reporters sets up several points of conversation, including Patrick considering Isaiah McKenzie a lock to make the roster while Isaiah Hodgins and Jake Kumerow are likely fighting for one receiver spot. They also discuss Cody Ford being anything but a lock to be a starter on the offensive line, a legit RB3 battle brewing between Matt Brieda and Antonio Williams, Mario Addison perhaps in a little danger on the defensive line, Justin Zimmer looking really good, Patrick thinking the Bills are still going to trade for Zack Ertz and plenty more. Of course, they also have a conversation about Josh Allen following the six-year extension that will see him collect $150 million just in guarantees. While deserved, the guys talk about how it's not just a victory for Josh Allen but the entire organization's ability to develop a franchise quarterback. Pat and Joe also discuss appearing together along with John Fina last Friday on the Rockpile Report at O'Neill's Stadium Inn and how cool it was meeting a bunch of Bills fans. That and much more. After dissecting the pair of rookies, Boccacino and D’Amico speculate on how many defensive ends the Bills will keep, and who should make the roster, and who will find themselves on the outside looking in. It appears there are five “locks” to make the roster in Rousseau, Basham, A.J. Epenesa, Jerry Hughes, and Mario Addison, especially with general manager Brandon Beane committing to keeping Addison and the team not saving that much by releasing him. We also take a moment to celebrate the under-appreciated Hughes, who was No. 2 in the NFL in his pass rush win rate last year behind only Pittsburgh’s T.J. Watt and who continues to be an invaluable contributor to the pass rush and a stout run defender. Assuming the Bills will keep either five or six defensive ends, that means one roster spot remains for: Darryl Johnson, Efe Obada, Bryan Cox. On the latest episode of the Billieve Podcast, hosts John Boccacino and Jamie D’Amico continue their offseason State of the Bills series of podcasts by breaking down and reviewing the contributions the Bills got from their defensive linemen in 2020. For the second straight year, the Bills were the team with the highest percentage of their salary cap devoted to the defensive line, with mixed results. The Bills saw their sack productivity decline from 44 in 2019 to 38 and finished 14th in the NFL in sacks per pass attempt. The Bills are bringing back plenty of talent along the defensive line, including their top two edge rushers from last year in defensive ends Jerry Hughes and Mario Addison, along with up-and-coming defensive tackle Ed Oliver, second-year defensive end A.J. Epenesa, and defensive tackles Vernon Butler, Harrison Phillips and Justin Zimmer. How can the Bills improve their defensive line? Well for starters, they are banking on the return of run stuffer and one-technique expert Star Lotulelei, who sat out 2020 due to COVID-19 concerns. His presence should solidify the run defense while allowing Oliver to flourish at defensive tackle. We address what Hughes and Addison can do to bolster the pass rush, discuss how big of an impact Lotulelei's return will have on the line, and examine what Oliver needs to do to take the next step in his progression. We also explore whether Epenesa can build upon his solid end to the 2020 season, dive into how free agent defensive end Efe Obada represents a nice low-risk/high-reward addition to the line, say goodbye to defensive ends Trent Murphy and Quinton Jefferson, and discuss how, on the surface, the Bills' defensive line has the talent to gel in their second year under defensive line coach Eric Washington. For the first time in 25 years, the Buffalo Bills (11-3) are AFC East champions, thanks to a dominant 48-19 victory over the Denver Broncos. On the latest episode of the Billieve Podcast, hosts John Boccacino and Jamie D’Amico recap the win, Buffalo's seventh in its last eight games, as the Bills secured their third playoff berth in the last four years. Among the topics covered on the podcast: Jamie and John take a stroll down memory lane, sharing where they were when the Bills last were AFC East champions, during the 1995 season. Jamie tests John's knowledge of those 1995 Bills. This was a moment four years in the making, and this victory fulfilled the promise made by general manager Brandon Beane and head coach Sean McDermott when they were hired that they would turn the Bills into perennial Super Bowl contenders, and not just a team thankful to sneak into the playoffs every now and then. This Bills team has legitimate Super Bowl dreams and seems poised to be the main challenger to the Kansas City Chiefs in the AFC. Recapping the win over the Broncos, quarterback Josh Allen (four total touchdowns, 359 passing yards) continues to make a legitimate case as the league's MVP. Boccacino and D'Amico discuss where Allen falls in the MVP race, and speculate on who has the better offensive weapons around him: Allen or Patrick Mahomes. Wide receiver Stefon Diggs (11 catches for 147 yards) continued his breakout season and is clearly the catalyst behind both Allen's career year and Buffalo's high-powered offense. Linebacker Matt Milano was outstanding and is returning to form as a game-changer for a resurgent Bills defense. Speaking of the defense, this unit is back to playing like a top five unit, and Leslie Frazier now has a plethora of weapons at his disposal along the line, from Jerry Hughes, Ed Oliver and Quinton Jefferson to Vernon Butler, Harrison Phillips and Mario Addison. Kudos to left tackle Dion Dawkins, who shut down Denver's talented edge rusher Bradley Chubb. It was a banner day up and down the offensive line, as Buffalo averaged 7.6 yards per rush while rushing for 182 yards on 24 carries. Speaking of the ground game, rookie Zack Moss (13 carries for 81 yards) has established himself as the bell cow of the backfield. This team's veterans like Hughes, cornerback Tre'Davious White, and safeties Micah Hyde and Jordan Poyer have been waiting for this moment since they arrived in Buffalo, but they are not done yet and have their sights set on loftier goals. The Buffalo Bills (9-3) continue their run of primetime games before a nationally-televised audience when they welcome the Pittsburgh Steelers (11-1) to Bills Stadium on Sunday Night Football and on the latest episode of the Billieve Podcast, hosts John Boccacino and Jamie D’Amico have everything you need to know for the Week 14 clash. Among the topics covered on the podcast: We take a moment to revel in Buffalo's convincing 34-24 win over the San Francisco 49ers on Monday Night Football. We analyze the ways quarterback Josh Allen has improved this year while putting himself in the NFL MVP competition, and discuss the changes to Allen's throwing mechanics that have led to this career season. We break down the contract extension for general manager Brandon Beane, who along with head coach Sean McDermott will remain in Buffalo through the 2025 season. We debunk the overplayed national narrative that the Bills need a signature win to validate their hot start to the season. We then focus on Week 14 and the Steelers, discussing how Allen and co. should attack a wounded Steelers bunch that is missing edge rusher Bud Dupree, linebacker Devin Bush, cornerback Joe Haden and more. Can Buffalo take advantage? How do the Bills try and contain Pittsburgh's talented quartet of wide receivers in JuJu Smith-Schuster, Chase Claypool, Diontae Johnson and James Washington, and will cornerback Levi Wallace be up to the task? Can Allen continue to excel at identifying the blitzers and hitting the open receiver? Tight end Dawson Knox should be in line for another huge game. Why it's important for Buffalo to not abandon the run game. Can tackle Daryl Williams hold his own against Pittsburgh's T.J. Watt, the NFL's best pass rusher and a leading candidate for Defensive Player of the Year? Will Buffalo's patchwork offensive line be able to open up enough holes for Devin Singletary and Zack Moss while giving Allen ample time to find his open receivers? Will Ed Oliver, Jerry Hughes, Mario Addison and the rest of the defensive line generate enough pressure on Ben Roethlisberger? After answering these questions, our podcasters offer up their score predictions for the game. The Buffalo Bills (6-2) have another chance to prove they are legitimate contenders when the division-leading Seattle Seahawks (6-1) come to town Sunday. On the latest episode of the Billieve Podcast, hosts John Boccacino and Jamie D’Amico have everything you need to know for the Week 9 clash. Among the questions we examine: Can Buffalo contain MVP candidate Russell Wilson and the high-flying Seahawks offense? How will defensive coordinator/assistant head coach Leslie Frazier scheme his defense to deal with Wilson and his quartet of talented pass catchers in DK Metcalf, Tyler Lockett, Greg Olsen and Will Dissly? Knowing Wilson picks apart zone defenses, and knowing Buffalo predominantly plays zone, how will the Bills adjust their game plan against the dangerous Seahawks offense? What to look for in the anticipated matchup between Metcalf and Buffalo's All Pro cornerback Tre'Davious White. Why safeties Micah Hyde and Jordan Poyer will need to step up their coverage game against Lockett and Metcalf. Will Ed Oliver, Jerry Hughes, Mario Addison and the Bills pass rush generate enough pressure to force Wilson into turnovers? The Seahawks are expected to be without their top two running backs (Chris Carson and Carlos Hyde). Can Buffalo, minus Matt Milano, bottle up the ground game? Will Josh Allen and Buffalo’s offense return to the form it showed during a four-game winning streak to start the season? The Seahawks are giving up the most passing yards in the league (nearly 360 per game), which should bode well for Allen and his talented trio of wide receivers in Stefon Diggs, Cole Beasley and John Brown. One week after Devin Singletary and Zack Moss gashed the New England Patriots on the ground, why the Bills shouldn't forget about the ground game, which can serve to keep the potent Seahawks' offense on the sidelines. How worried should Bills fans be about center Mitch Morse, who is out after suffering another concussion? What's the perfect remedy for the Buffalo Bills (4-2), who are reeling after a two-game slide? A matchup with the winless New York Jets (0-6). On the latest episode of the Billieve Podcast, hosts John Boccacino and Jamie D’Amico have everything you need to know for the Week 7 matchup. In what is shaping up as a get-right game for both Buffalo's offense and defense, our podcasters discuss whether this is the week Buffalo gets its ground game going, whether opposing defenses have figured out a way to stop Josh Allen and the offense, how a depleted Buffalo secondary can rise to the occasion vs. an inept Jets offense, whether the Bills can resolve their defensive issues, and more. Allen will need to show he can handle the pressure that Jets' defensive coordinator Gregg Williams is sure to bring, including blitz packages. If Allen can quickly identify the open receivers in Williams' man coverage, wide receivers Stefon Diggs and Cole Beasley should have a field day against the Jets secondary. Running back Devin Singletary has a nice bounce-back opportunity against a Jets run defense that is vulnerable, if only Buffalo's offensive line can rediscover its run blocking prowess. Buffalo does have a ton of injuries to deal with and will be missing several key starters, including wide receiver John Brown, tight end Dawson Knox, guard Cody Ford, cornerback Josh Norman and linebacker Tyrel Dodson. With Tre'Davious White and Cam Lewis listed as questionable, the Bills could be without three cornerbacks vs. the Jets and must find a way to contain wide receiver Jamison Crowder, who always performs well vs. Buffalo. Can Jerry Hughes, Ed Oliver, Mario Addison and the defensive line take advantage of a weak Jets offensive line to create pressure on Sam Darnold/Joe Flacco? The Buffalo Bills (3-0) make their first West Coast trip of the 2020 season on Sunday, traveling to Sin City for a Week 4 showdown vs. the Las Vegas Raiders (2-1). On the latest episode of the Billieve Podcast, hosts John Boccacino and Jamie D’Amico have everything you need to get ready for the Bills first-ever trip to Vegas. After offering up rapid reactions to Buffalo's thrilling 35-32 win over the Los Angeles Rams in Week 3, Boccacino and D'Amico size up the Raiders offense, which relies heavily on talented running back Josh Jacobs. The Bills will have a daunting task trying to slow down Jacobs, especially with the issues Buffalo has had stopping the run this year. Quarterback Derek Carr has one of the quickest releases in the game, tight end Darren Waller is a matchup nightmare, and the onus will be on the defensive linemen, led by Jerry Hughes, Ed Oliver, Mario Addison, Quinton Jefferson, Trent Murphy and Vernon Butler, to apply pressure up the middle. Unlike last week's opponent, the Raiders don't have as strong of an offensive line, which should create opportunities to get pressure on Carr. With a focus on checking down to his receivers, tight ends and running backs, the Bills should look to confuse Carr with coverage zone blitzes while clogging his passing lanes. Offensively, both D'Amico and Boccacino expect reigning AFC Offensive Player of the Month Josh Allen to continue his upward trajectory while leading the Bills high-flying (31 points per game) offense. While much has been made of Stefon Diggs, John Brown and Cole Beasley's contributions to the receiving game, our podcasters expect big performances from rookie Gabriel Davis and tight ends Tyler Kroft and Dawson Knox vs. the Raiders. As good as the passing game has been, Boccacino and D'Amico are looking for a huge game from running back Devin Singletary, who should record his first 100-yard effort this year against a susceptible Raiders' defense. We close by offering up our score predictions as the Bills look to improve to 4-0 for the ninth time in franchise history, and first time since the 2008 season. The Buffalo Bills (2-0) kick off a crucial four-game stretch against playoff contenders on Sunday, when the Los Angeles Rams (2-0) come to Bills Stadium for a Week 3 showdown. On the latest episode of the Billieve Podcast, hosts John Boccacino and Jamie D’Amico have everything you need to get ready for this clash of the unbeatens. Head coach Sean McVay and his high-flying Rams rely on both a strong play action passing game and an effective outside zone run game to fuel their attack, and both Boccacino and D'Amico say the Bills will need to have linebackers Matt Milano and Tremaine Edmunds healthy and on the field to have a chance at slowing down a Rams offense that is averaging 28 points per game. Even with Milano and Edmunds, the Rams will present a challenge on offense, led by tight end Tyler Higbee, wide receivers Cooper Kupp and Robert Woods, running back Darrell Henderson Jr. and quarterback Jared Goff. Like the Bills, the Rams employ plenty of pre-snap motion and like to use the play action pass to get the offense going. One key for the Bills will be applying pressure to Goff, as Ed Oliver, Jerry Hughes, Mario Addison, Quinton Jefferson, Vernon Butler, Harrison Phillips and the defensive line need to be disruptive and get consistent pressure on Goff. One area where the Bills can have success against the Rams? Attacking the middle of the offensive line with their talented defensive tackles and defensive linemen. Offensively, both Boccacino and D'Amico expect Josh Allen to test the Rams with the deep ball while feeding Devin Singletary the ball to get the ground game going. Dion Dawkins and the offensive line are going to have their hands full trying to slow down All Pro defensive tackle Aaron Donald. To counter the blitzes the Rams are sure to bring, our hosts expect Allen to look at John Brown and Cole Beasley for plenty of quick passes over the middle of the field, whole taking the occasional shot downfield to Stefon Diggs.
