Angelo Furlan is a sprinting legend. In the early 2000's until 2013 Furlan was racking up big wins in the European cycling world. It was a time where Mario Cipollini, Alessandro Petacchi to Robbie McEwen were winning races at will. Furlan beat all three in races. Injuries in BMX is what led Furlan to road racing. Furlan raced BMX when Italy only had 10 tracks and about a thousand riders. He was no slouch whatsoever. He was European Champion, Italian Champion and he won more or less than 100 races.During his road career he won races like stage 2 of the 2009 Criterium de Dauphine, 2 stages in 2002 Vuelta a Espana and stages in the Etoile de Besseges , Circuit de la Sarthe to the Tour de Serbia and Coppa Bernoochi. He finished his career in 2013 with Christina Watches - Ofone after riding for such teams as Alessio, Domino Vacant, Lampre to Credit Agricole.Today at 46 years old Furlan runs his own cycling center "Angelo Furlan 360" with indoor cycling, coaching to bike fitting.

See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

In this episode of Re-Cycle, we're riding with Eros Poli, a man famous for being the tallest rider in the peloton as well as finishing last in the Giro d'Italia, while also piloting Mario Cipollini to multiple stage wins. Then, on a sweltering day in the Tour de France, Poli went on the attack en route to Mont Ventoux. Here's the story of how some quick thinking, a little James Brown and a hot can of Fanta fired a giant to victory up and over the Beast of Provence.Re-Cycle is written by Felix Lowe, narrated by Graham Willgoss, and produced by Pete Burton. Miks? Alates aprillikuust on meil igas saates vaheplokina Shimano rubriik ja sinna juurde kuuluv auhinnamäng, kus iga kord esitame uue küsimuse. Teie vastuseid ootame postkasti jalgrattapalavik@delfi.ee.

Brad and Orla believe the Brit thoroughly deserves to and has unfinished business.Plus some sensational stories from Brad's racing experiences and tales featuring the likes of Mark Cavendish and Mario Cipollini.Oh, and Brad also pays tribute to the recent performances from his former charge, Tom Pidcock, who he believes can win the Tour de France one day.Brought to you by Zwift where fun is fast. The Bradley Wiggins Show is Produced by Pete Burton. Part One of a Cipollini two-parter. Alfredo Binda’s record of 41 stage wins in the Giro d’Italia stood for 70 years, until Mario Cipollini went one better. With his wavy blonde locks, bulging biceps, and a penchant for an eye-catching skinsuit, Super Mario was as ruthless as he was fast. Cipo made headlines and Giro history – but few friends during his controversial and colourful career.Felix Lowe not only documents the incredible run that saw 'Mousselini' reign supreme but pits him against Binda: a man who on the surface was a cold and detached champion, a man who had about as much in common with the charismatic Cipollini as a smooth Barolo to Grappa. One was a champion vintage to savour long on the lips, another a coarse digestif enjoyed – if that’s the word – at the very end of a meal, something that came and went in a matter of seconds. And, once it hit the spot, it left behind a bitter aftertaste.Part Two will be released as the Giro peloton hits the streets of Turin on Saturday the 8th of May, where Felix delves into the murky world of Cipo's retirement.Re-Cycle is narrated by Graham Willgoss and produced by Pete Burton. Please rate and review us on your podcast platform of choice! The action is coming thick and fast in the 2021 season now, and Brad and Graham caught up after the first Monument of the year, which saw Jasper Stuyven spring a surprise on the Poggio to win Milan-San Remo ahead of an all-star cast.Wout van Aert, Mathieu van der Poel and Julian Alaphilippe were all outfoxed right at the end of an epic 299km ride on Saturday, but Brad praises the Big Three for how "they have advanced the sport".There's also praise for Ineos, who placed Tom Pidcock in 15th and were, to quote Brad, "bloody brilliant... the team of the day."After a glorious wander down memory lane - including details of the day Mario Cipollini gave Bernie Eisel a clip round the ear, and Brad's first encounter with Lance Armstrong at Milan-San Remo - in part two we look ahead to this week's Volta a Catalunya.Ineos are bringing a formidable team with G, Adam Yates and Richard Carapaz all in attendance. But who will fancy themselves as team leader? And are Jumbo-Visma spreading themselves too thin as the inevitable Tour de France showdown looms with Dave Brailsford's boys?Brought to you by Zwift where fun is fast. The Bradley Wiggins Show is Produced by Pete Burton. Robbie McEwen doesn't do many podcasts so I was really happy when he said yes to coming on Life in the Peloton. As one of the best sprinters of his generation – a generation that overlapped with the likes of Mario Cipollini, Erik Zabel, Thor Hushovd, Tom Boonen and Alessandro Petacchi – Robbie won 12 stages of the Tour de France. He also won the green jersey three times. Now retired, Robbie has stayed connected with the sport because he is Matt Keenan's co-commentator at the Tour de France and viewers in Australia and round the world hear his insight and analysis every day in July. For this podcast, I wanted to tap into that knowledge and experience of racing. We talked about sprinting and the difference between the sprint trains and the riders who made their through the final kilometres with perhaps only one or two teammates to help, relying on their own instincts to get to the front, as Robbie did. Robbie talked about tactics, about how the sprinters can save effort at crucial times, how to ride in the crosswinds and also about the unwritten rules which govern the peloton.I really enjoyed hearing the perspective of one of the best in the business and I hope you do too.Until next time,MitchLife in the Peloton 2020 playlistKeep in touch with Life in the PelotonKeep up to date with everything that’s going on with Life in the Peloton at my website lifeinthepeloton.comLife in the Peloton shopCheck out my range of Life in the Peloton merchandise on our Etsy store too, from beanies and caps to embroidered tees, logo tees and much more.

Part two of our look at the life and times of the Giro d'Italia's record stage winner Mario Cipollini picks up the story in 2002, as he has just won the rainbow jersey at the World Championships. Richard Moore, Lionel Birnie and Daniel Friebe look at the final seasons before his eventual retirement, which he had threatened a couple of times previously. The ceremonial skinsuits were a reflection of his flamboyance and marketing power but the doping allegations and darker accusations since retirement have all complicated the Lion King's legacy. We also hear Mark Cavendish's verdict on who was the greatest sprinter. And there's the latest selection from Ciro for his Giro d'Italia dream team. The Cycling Podcast is supported by iwoca and Science In Sport. COMING TOMORROW... We look back at Italia '90. Not the football World Cup or Nessun Dorma, although both feature, but the Giro led from start to finish by Gianni Bugno, who gave Italy her first victory for four years at a time when the country's confidence was sky high. Mario Cipollini holds the record for the most Giro d’Italia stage wins and so we are going to spend the next two stages of Our Giro looking at his career and life, which has been as turbulent as it’s been flamboyant. Richard Moore, Lionel Birnie and Daniel Friebe take a broadly chronological look at the career of the man who was nicknamed the Lion King and Super Mario, who marketing men wanted to use to sell their products and who was the undisputed fastest man in the world for a period in the 1990s. This part takes us to the peak of his career, the 2002 season when he threatened to retire and yet won Milan-Sanremo and the World Championship title. We hear from two of his contemporaries in the bunch sprints, Tom Steels and Ivan Quaranta, from Matt White and from photographer Graham Watson, who saw the Lion King up close. There’s also wine of the day, a delicious simple lunch that combines carbs to brilliant effect, and the regular amacord feature delving into The Cycling Podcast’s back catalogue. As Daniel points out, at the start of the 2000s, the five biggest names in professional cycling were Lance Armstrong, Marco Pantani, Jan Ullrich, Frank Vandenbroucke and Mario Cipollini… All achieved greatness as well as notoriety and could be seen as poster boys for an era when the professionals rode as close to the sun as they could. Strap yourselves in to see if we can tame the Lion King. The Cycling Podcast is supported by iwoca and Science In Sport. COMING TOMORROW... Our Giro reaches Mount Etna for its first summit finish and, appropriately enough, the story of one of the Giro’s most famous explosions. Call it a capitulation, a hunger flat, a bonk – cycling has as many terms for running out of fuel and hitting the wall as Eskimos have for ice. In 2002 Cadel Evans, the Australian former mountain biker taking part in his first Grand Tour, was in the pink jersey and only had one mountain to hang on. Evans was riding for Mapei, the world’s best team, in what was, as we discussed in our stage 4 episode, a controversial, scandal-ridden Giro. In this episode we speak to Evans about his baptism of fire and about the stage when his body said ‘enough’ – he tells us what it was like to ride for Mapei, to have a teammate expelled after testing positive and to find himself in the lead so close to the finish. Although Evans didn’t win, the experience did provide an important building block in a career that would see him win the Tour de France nine years later. Amarcord is our daily visit to the vaults and in today’s we revisit Giromondo, an episode of Kilometre 0 from the first Giro we covered in full as The Cycling Podcast in 2016. The Cycling Podcast is supported by iwoca and Science In Sport. FURTHER READING OR WATCHING... To see the stage where it all fell apart for Cadel Evans (with Italian commentary) go here on YouTube (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3YnKOwPz2b0&t=) . COMING TOMORROW... In stage seven of Our Giro we’ll be embarking on the first of a two-part special on the life and times of Mario Cipollini, the most colourful, flamboyant and controversial sprinter in Giro history – as well as the holder of the record for most stage wins. WATCH OUR FIRST FILM Our first film, And So We Rode… is available for Friends of the Podcast to watch now. Our Giro is still on the island of Sicily and Richard Moore, Lionel Birnie and Daniel Friebe turn their attention to the ‘Prosecco Supernovas’, or one-hit wonders: riders who burnt brightly but briefly at the Giro d’Italia. They include Ivan Quaranta, the sprinter who upstaged Mario Cipollini at the 1999 Giro. Twenty-one years later, Daniel caught up with Quaranta to find out where – or, indeed, if – it all went wrong. We look at the strange case of the Swedes at the Giro, recalling Gosta Pettersson’s surprise win in 1971 and speaking to Tommy Prim who, a decade later, twice finished second overall. Then there is Damiano Cunego, who was just 22 when he won the 2004 race. Cunego looked set to become Italian cycling’s next big star but, in a career that continued another 14 years, he never again went close – we investigate why. Amarcord is our regular look back at The Cycling Podcast’s previous experiences at the Giro and in this one we join Lionel and Daniel in the midst of a casino in the Dolomites. The Cycling Podcast is supported by iwoca and Science In Sport. COMING TOMORROW... In stage six of Our Giro we’ll be looking at the 2002 race and Cadel Evans’ doomed attempt to win his debut Grand Tour. In Bonk! we speak to Evans about his time with the Mapei team, the controversial 2002 Giro and his infamous collapse while wearing the pink jersey. Stage three of the 2019 Giro d’Italia took the riders from the birthplace of Leonardo Da Vinci to Orbetello, with the wind and threat of rain making the peloton nervous. Join Lionel Birnie, Daniel Friebe and Ciro Scognamiglio in Orbetello as they discuss the day’s big controversial moment – the relegation of Italian champion Elia Viviani for irregular sprinting. Viviani’s victory was handed to the second man across the line, Fernando Gaviria. As tears of joy turned to frustration for Viviani’s dad, who was watching in his camper van at the finish, we ask whether it was the right decision. Mario Cipollini’s former lead-out Mario Scirea made a bid to be considered cycling’s Arsene Wenger, claiming not to have seen the incident. We wrap up a tricky day for the overall contenders and their teammates, hearing from Mitchelton-Scott’s Simon Yates and Luke Durbridge and Miguel Angel Lopez’s climbing domestique Dario Cataldo. Gianni Savio reveals his cycling formation, we meet a former refugee turned professional cyclist and much more in a podcast that’s packed despite the relative lack of action in the stage.
