As a trader, you have to be able to keep a check on your emotions, no matter what the state of play. Like air traffic controller, a sniper. Life or death. My next guest on A Trader's Life is no stranger to extreme pressure in trading. He's been trading since the eighties when charts were typically worked up with a pencil and paper. When he was diagnosed with arthritis as a young man, he knew he'd have to work on his mindset if he was to cope with the kinds of stressful situations he found himself in on a daily basis.. Today Mark Randall is a very successful high performance coach. He helps develop traders, and trading teams at corporate level. They hire him because his methods and teaching make a real difference, not just in financial gains but also in terms of a trader's overall wellbeing. ==A unique trading strategy with a very high win rateYou've probably heard of Fibonacci, and you may already be using the Fibonacci tool you find on TradingView as part of your trading stratregy. Until about a year ago, I thought these tools were the last on the subject of Finoacci sequences. Then I met trader and investor All Peters-Plocher and talked to the people using her proprietary Fibonacci tool and strategy. To date, I have met five of Alla's students, and they all said joining Alla's courses was the best investment they ever made. One of the guys I spoke to said he'd been struggling for about 10 years before he joined one of Alla's courses, and once he got going, he was consistently profitable. He just bought a house in Arizona with the money he's made since he joined.Like me, he's a filmmaker. One of things he loves about her system is that he spends only a few minutes a day checking trades, and can focus on his filmmaking projects. I also met Alla herself when she was over in London, early in 2024. She even took me to lunch - at Claridges! - with her husband and two other 'student' traders. I believe she genuinely cares about the traders who sign up to her programs. More than that - she's on a mission to help traders of all abilities. It's very rare I send out affiliate links, not least because I have to have complete faith in the person and his or her coaching or product before I do - but down below you'll find some links to her courses. Transform your trading performanceIf this is a good time for you to join one of Alla's program, and you found this podcast episode useful in helping you come to that decision, I'd really appreciate it if you were to sign up via one of the links below - it would be extra cost to you but would help me cover some of the costs of running this podcast and enable me to do more ambitious episodes, both audio and video, in the future. If you'd like to talk to me in person about Alla's courses, feel free to reach out on email - nic.penrake@gmail.com - and we can arrange to have a chat over Zoom or WhatsApp, whichever you prefer. In this interview on the ALPHA MIND podcast, hosts STEVEN GOLDSTEIN & MARK RANDALL interview Professor Keating about some of the connections which bind trading, investing, and science. Brian talks about how scientists, despite being held on some sort of an intellectual pedestal, are human, and are just as prone to the foibles and behavioral errors which are common to people in all fields, including trading. The theme, which resonates throughout this interview, alludes to the meta game of science and trading, something which was captured in a quote by Dr. Keating, and which featured prominently in Greg Zuckerman's 2019 book about the trading legend Jim Simons, ‘The Man Who Solved the Market: How Jim Simons Launched the Quant Revolution.' The quote is: ‘Scientists are human, sometimes all too human. When desire and data are in collision, evidence sometimes loses out to emotion.' Themes explored in this interview are; confirmation bias, ego, and our ability, or even inability, to separate our outcomes from our ego. https://podcasts.apple.com/gb/podcast/the-alphamind-podcast/id1467395734 Learn more about your ad choices. When Michael Jordan wrote about Mark Randall's release from the Chicago Bulls in his book, the first round draft pick was ticked. But he also realized the underlying reason he was so mad: he was told in front of the Bull's owner, GM, head coach and teammates that he wasn't good enough to play. Tough words to swallow for a guy who had always been a standout player with a high basketball IQ. After he was cut and placed on waivers, the former Cherry Creek High School and University of Kansas star began a journey through the NBA and now defunct CBA with stops in Minnesota, Detroit, Miami, Rapid City (twice), Denver (twice), Ft Wayne and Wisconsin. After retirement, Mark tried his hand at scouting and coaching with the Nuggets. He enjoyed scouting, but with a family the traveling was tough. He also enjoyed coaching, however he was fired from that job after one year with no reason given. He was then offered an ambassador job with the Nuggets which he did for many years and loved getting out into the community with other alums and/or current players. Currently, Mark continues to be a Nuggets ambassador in between his full-time job as a District Manager of High School Athletics for Denver Public Schools.

Trading is a job which tests everyone who participates in it to the max. Volatile markets, rapidly shifting trading environments, strong bull markets followed by violent bear markets, fortunes made over years then lost in hours. The markets toy with traders' emotions and their sense of self-worth, as they come to terms with just how much skill and ability is needed to succeed over the long-term in a challenge that people vastly underestimate. In this episode AlphaMind co-host Mark Randall interviews fellow co-host Steven Goldstein about the lessons he has learned in over 35 years in Financial Markets, working as a professional trader and coaching traders, both professional and retail.Mark asks Steven about his journey from assistant on the trading desk of a Japanese bank in the 1980s. to working on the Proprietary desk of the Swiss Investment Bank Credit Suisse in the 1990s, and his time as a trader at the banking arm of American Express in the 2000s. They also discuss his subsequent decision to starting to work as a coach who helps traders develop their psychological abilities. Steven, who coaches some of the world's leading professional traders at some of the world's biggest Hedge Funds, as well as many smaller private and retail traders across all markets and trading styles, shares fascinating insights which listeners will learn so much from. Your Brain and your mind are your greatest asset as a trader, together they are most powerful weapon in your arsenal. But are you using them effectively, optimally, and to their fullest effect? Your capital, your systems, your processes are the warheads you deploy in the markets, but it's your brain which is the system that deploys them, and your mind is tool that observes, senses and then makes the choices when to launch, manages the battle, and the allocation and timing of resource utilisation in that battle. But all too often, traders, are worn down in that battle, their mind becomes sub-optimal, and their brain slowly switches off. You can do something about it, and you should be aware that you can do something about it, otherwise you end up becoming the victim, and not the victor. But it is incredibly hard to do yourself. In this week's AlphaMind podcast, the usual co-host Mark Randall, is interviewed about ‘Weaponizing of the Traders Mind'.

The TELUS Original documentary, Undetectable looks at the early history of HIV/AIDS in North America, the roadblocks along the way, and critiques the gatekeepers that have stopped the world from becoming HIV/AIDS free. It also includes a sharp analysis of the hysteria, misinformation and stigma that has surrounded HIV since it was identified—and initially associated with gay men—in the early 80s. Host James Watson discusses the film and the issues with director and producer Laura O'Grady and cast members Tiko Kerr, Mark Randall and Dr. Julio Montaner. Laura O'Grady has produced, coordinated, written or directed hundreds of hours of content, and 2021 marks the release of Undetectable, a project three years in the making. Tiko Kerr joined the Undetectable team in 2019 as Art Director, contributing style frames, composites, original pieces and overall visual direction to further the film's animation sequences. His artistic practice explores painting, collage, murals, performance and set design. Mark Randall is a person living with HIV, a HIV advocate, activist and educator. In his role, Randall provides information, capacity building, access to testing and prevention services and harm reduction resources in a nonjudgmental way. Since the late 90's he also pioneered the concept of Treatment as Prevention® (TasP®) and was the first to advocate for the expansion of HAART coverage to curb the impact of the HIV/AIDS pandemic, in terms of decreasing progression to AIDS and death, as well as decreasing HIV transmission.
