AFH: Season 2, Episode 15Featuring Holly HowardAbout the Guest:Holly Howard is the founder and CEO of Pyramid.Work, an AI-powered strategic growth engine for the entrepreneurial economy.Pyramid is the culmination of Holly's lifelong pursuit: integrating artist, scientist, healer, business builder, and teacher—and using that integration to create technology that helps people realize their own visions.Holly's journey began in 1996 at the Joffrey Ballet Training Program. At 18, she danced with the Ruth Page Ballet's Nutcracker and joined the American Guild of Musical Artists. In 1999, she entered Berklee College of Music to study Music Therapy and Bassoon, where she discovered neuroscience and neuroplasticity—that creativity can literally rewire the brain. She created an internship at the Institute for Music and Neurologic Function under Dr. Concetta Tomaino, longtime collaborator of Oliver Sacks. That experience taught her how to invent what doesn't exist. After three years as a Board-Certified Music Therapist in New York, Holly took a detour into Brooklyn's restaurant scene—working at Marlow & Sons, where she was photographed by Roe Ethridge (now in ICA Boston and MOCA). She also recorded on bassoon with The Pierces. Later, she managed egg restaurant that she made profitable enough to offer PTO and health insurance to every employee in 2009. That work led to a congressional briefing for Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro and influenced the Healthy Families Act.During those years, Holly earned her premedical certificate at Columbia University while conducting orthopedic research at Lenox Hill Hospital. After publishing in the Journal of Arthroplasty, she chose not to pursue medicine and pivoted back to creativity. In 2012, Holly founded Ask Holly How, her consulting practice. By 2014, her programs were sponsored by JPMorgan Chase and economic development corporations. She has since worked with over 1,000 small businesses, become a professor at Pratt Institute, joined the faculty at RISD, and launched the podcast Cultures Within Capitalism. Her work has been cited in the New York Times, The Cut, Fast Company, and Bustle. In 2023, Holly completed her Master's Certificate in Religions of the World at Harvard, integrating the spiritual and philosophical roots of everything she builds.Through Pyramid, Holly is uniting all of these disciplines—art, science, service, and spirit—to help entrepreneurs build from their own foundations, not someone else's framework.Guest Info:https://www.pyramid.work/aboutFollow Me:Instagram: @afinehuman Shop Dame: dame.com This podcast was produced by aurielle sayeh, filmed by @thetellychannel, and powered by @dameproducts.
This time John discusses federal judge Christopher Cooper who ordered Trump's name to be removed from the Kennedy Center. And then another federal judge has temporarily stopped the creation of a $1.8bn government fund to compensate individuals who claimed to be targets of political investigation by previous presidential administrations. Judge Leonie Brinkema barred the justice department from taking any steps to stand up or operate the fund - including processing or dispersing claims - until a preliminary hearing on June 12th. And then another federal judge - Kathleen Williams - ordered the IRS case into Trump re-opened and called his 1776 Terror Slush Fund into question. John then welcomes back journalist and political analyst for CNN, Brian Karem, to talk about the ceasing of the Iran ceasefire and his new podcast "Just Ask the Question". And then finally, TV's Frank Conniff from MST3K returns to joke with John and listeners about Trump's pathetic almost cancelled Freedom 250 concert and birthday UFC cage fight.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

Listen to Ballet Help Desk ad-free on Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/BalletHelpDesk Every ballet company's tax return is public record. Most dancers have never seen one. Liza Yntema, founder of the Dance Data Project, and Griff Braun, National Organizing Director at the American Guild of Musical Artists, walk us through what the numbers reveal. We start with the 990, how to read it, and what a company's revenue structure tells you about its priorities. From there we get into the funding landscape, leadership compensation, and why the gap between what artistic directors make and what dancers make is worth paying attention to. On the contract side, Griff breaks down what's in a collective bargaining agreement, what dancers should look for when they sign, and what generations of dancers have fought to put in those documents. We also get into the one-year contract cycle, the psychological weight it puts on dancers, and how the U.S. compares to countries that fund their arts institutions in a meaningful way. We also address the pay-to-play question directly: the trainee model, sponsored dancers, and the financial barriers that quietly shape who gets to have a professional ballet career. Plus: board governance, leadership training, and what would need to change for ballet companies to function differently. KSAP (Kobe Saperstein) is one of the most intriguing and hardworking guests I have ever had on this podcast. His work ethic for his age is something I have never seen before. He has taken his talents and has applied them to all aspects of his life. He is currently a senior at Medford High school, and has the entire school community buzzing constantly with his music, his social media videos, and his belief in himself. I was a big fan before we hit record tonight, and an even bigger fan when we finished recording. This is a must listen!!!

On this episode, I had the privilege of sitting down with my dear friend Christina Cone in her home here in East Nashville. I knew she would be the perfect person to talk with about how to maintain one's creative and artistic identity while simultaneously diving headfirst into motherhood. Christina fronts the band Frances Cone along with her husband, Andy. She also founded Phases, a boutique creative agency for independent artists, earlier this year. She and I spoke about the terror and magic of motherhood, the necessary price we pay to live in community, the journey of healing from religious trauma, dismantling the legacy burden of codependency, and strategies for keeping the creative flame burning all the while. Follow Christina's work and various projects here and here! Psyche Magic Website, Socials and more! This is a public episode. Not a fork. Not a knife. Not a spork (though underrated). We're talking Spoon -- the legendary indie rock band from Austin, Texas, that's been stirring up perfect soundscapes since the early '90s. With more than 1.3 million monthly listeners on Spotify, Spoon has slipped their sharp, stylish tracks onto the charts and even into movie soundtracks over their 30+ year career. Never heard of them? Even better -- this is your perfect crash course in Spoonology™. Already a devoted fan? Fantastic -- you'll finally get to hear us wrestle with the eternal mystery: why on earth did founding frontman Britt Daniel name the band after, yes, a piece of silverware? Spoiler: the answer comes from an iconic '70s song, and we're serving up a tasty snippet. To guide us through the Spooniverse, Team Derringer (Laura, Alton, and Paul) are joined by our good pal Dan Friedman -- a Durham-based musician, eco-warrior, and mastermind behind The Music and Planet Project. Dan brings his indie chops and environmental wisdom to the table as we dish out the very best of Spoon. This is a Tribute episode to Allan Sherman, one of the greatest song parodists who ever lived. He emerged from nowhere in the early 1960s to become one of the biggest selling musical artists in the pre-Beatles era.His album, “My Son, The Folksinger”, released in 1962, shot to the top of the charts, and became the fastest selling record of its time. It captured the entire country. His next album, “My Son, The Nut”, featured his biggest hit, “Hello Muddah, Hello Faddah”, about a boy writing home to his parents from summer camp. It was written to the tune of Ponchielli's “Dance Of The Hours”.Before he became a musical star Sheran was employed in television, where he came up with the idea for the show “I've Got a Secret”.His musical ascendance was meteoric. He played some of his song parodies to Harpo Marx, his neighbor, who invited him to perform them at some dinner parties. George Burns was at one such party and he urged his friend at Warner Brothers Records to sign Sherman. “Sarah Jackman”, sung to the tune of “Frere Jacques”, became his first hit after President John F. Kennedy was overheard singing the song in a hotel lobby.Sherman's musical career peaked in 1963, but then, following the assassination of JFK and the emergence of The Beatles and the other British Invasion bands, his career waned and it was over by 1967. Sherman died at age 49 in 1973. But he left a big legacy.Featured songs:“Shake Hands With Your Uncle Max”“Harvey And Sheila”“Crazy Downtown”“Hello Muddah, Hello Faddah”------------------------------------------The Follow Your Dream Podcast:Top 1% of all podcasts with Listeners in 200 countries!Click here for All Episodes Click here for Guest List Click here for Guest Groupings Click here for Guest TestimonialsClick here to Subscribe Click here to receive our Email UpdatesClick here to Rate and Review the podcast—----------------------------------------ROBERT'S NEWEST ALBUM:“WHAT'S UP!” is Robert's new compilation album. Jamie James is a songwriter and musician who has been making music his whole life, and this Spring, he released his debut solo album, Straight Up, recorded with some longtime bandmates. James has always been into the blues and blues rock, and he's known for his work with Dennis Quaid & The Sharks, longtime collaborations with the late Harry Dean Stanton, and as the frontman of the '80s rockabilly trio The Kingbees. Rejoined with friends Tom Walsh (drums), Ken Stange (organ), and Tom Mancillas (bass), James took a group of songs that he wrote during the pandemic while recovering from open heart surgery to Kitten Robot Studio in Los Angeles. They recorded the ten songs on Straight Up live in the studio in one day only, capturing their years of experience playing together for the album. As an artist now in his 70s, James has a lifetime of perspective to bring not only to his songwriting, but to how he makes and records music, and the big lessons seem to be: Stay creative, stick to what you love, and make music with the people who bring you energy to do more. I spoke to Jamie James about his approach to Straight Up and his love for the blues. EPISODE OVERVIEW If you don't immediately recognize the name Damiano David, you need to stick around, because he is clearly on the rise. In 2015, he was playing the streets of Rome, Italy before his band Måneskin became an international sensation. With three major albums selling millions of downloads since 2017, Måneskin now has over 20 million monthly listeners on Spotify, ranking among the Top 500 recording artists in the world—not just in Italy, but globally. Now, without breaking up the band, Damiano David launched his solo career in May 2025 with his debut album, and he's rapidly making history. Prior to its release, his solo work had 7 million monthly listeners—but since May 2025, that number has skyrocketed to 12 million monthly listeners. That's a 5 million listener increase in just one month—an achievement few artists can claim. SPECIAL GUEST: CAMILLA PASSANI In this episode, our special guest is Camilla Passani, a long-time listener of Derringer Discoveries and a recording artist from Rome who, back in 2016, played an open mic night with Damiano. She tells Team Derringer about that fateful night, and she shares her three favorite songs, so far, by the mega-superstar while we play snippets. We also play snippets of songs by Camilla who is finally an Honorary Derringer after listening to our podcast for more than three years. WANT TO JOIN THE SHOW? Over the last two decades the number of places we could - in theory - be exposed to new music has increased exponentially. But instead of making it easier to discover New Zealand artists, it seems to be getting harder. Composer, producer, and lecturer at Massey University School of music Jesse Austin-Steward spoke to Jesse.

Get ready to crank up the good vibes on All The Waves! This month, we're talking to two local legends who know how to get a crowd moving. First up: Ricky Windhorst, aka “Big Easy Rick.” A Louisiana Music Hall of Famer (thanks to his days with the J.J. Muggler Band) and the frontman of festival favorite Four Unplugged, Ricky's been rocking the Northshore with high-energy classic rock and funk for years. He recently dropped his first solo album, Lucky Dog — seven original songs packed with that unmistakable New Orleans flavor. Ricky shares why the St. Tammany music scene hits different and his favorite spots to catch a live show. Then, meet Fadra White, one half of the powerhouse sister duo leading Soul Revival. With 20+ years of high-energy performances across Southeast Louisiana, Soul Revival's fanbase — their loyal "Soulmates" — and a 2024 Musical Artist of the Year award prove they know how to throw a serious party. Fadra (yes, sister to co-host Zondra!) talks about their musical roots, a career that once took them to Carnegie Hall, and the real story behind their most unforgettable moment onstage. Their motto? “We turn their party into our party.”

David Rosen is a composer, musician, and the creator of the Piecing It Together Podcast. He and I sat down to discuss a strange new sub-genre of Biopic: Musical Artists with the surname Williams who are portrayed as a nonhuman. In the case of "A Better Man," Robbie Williams is portrayed as a CGI Chimp Man (think Planet of the Apes), while "Piece by Piece" presents Pharrell Williams and his surrounding world in Lego. Damien Horne began performing at a young age growing up in Hickory, North Carolina. After high school graduation, Damien took a Greyhound bus to Los Angeles chasing his entertainment dreams. After becoming homeless, Damien returned to North Carolina where he formed the band Stellar Tree and made the move to Nashville.
