The urban visionary crowd suffered a humiliating setback last week in their campaign to convince Winnipeg residents that a slip lane for cars is the most dangerous aspect of life in Osborne Village, and that expressing public safety concerns is fearmongering. The Gas Station Arts Centre said no to gaslighting the public and yes to a permanent redesign of the exterior courtyard entrance to fence off the space used as part of the notorious 'Circle" on River Avenue. As Marty Gold explains, even the most left-wing arts groups find out they have to draw the line for their social activism when campouts, open fires, drug dealing, and soiled mattresses are outside their door. “What we're looking at is establishing our courtyard for our patrons,” said Executive Director Nick Kowalchuk. “What I want is a patron to feel comfortable." 9.40- A man from Kitchener-Waterloo previously passed on a job offer at the Gas Station, and you'll hear why. It wasn't because of the slip lane. Violent crime went up over 50% in the Village, and now even MSM is being forced to report it as the reason Starbucks- packed from morning to night with customers - shuttered their store. Bike lanes are not going to help improve the quality of life for people who live and work in the area as long as social disorder - especially caused by homeless troublemakers -continues unchecked. 16.00 - The problems caused by homeless campers was amplified near the University of Manitoba by competing visions for public safety. An effort by Street Links to relocate one disruptive bunch in Glengarry Park to secure accommodations was derailed by a competing organization that showed up, the Main Street Project. While the Free Press presented it as a mere difference of approach, CBC actually provided a narration from area Coun. Janice Lukes that exposed how MSP swooped in, telling the campers, "'No, you don't need to go, you have rights. Your right is to stay on this encampment and stay here. And here, do you want some coffee and cookies?'" "(We) take a human rights-based approach to supporting community members,” claimed a spokesperson, but what they mean is, the human rights of the campers. The residents? Well, since without homeless people, MSP would lose its funding, their human rights don't count. "I've stayed indoors a lot more than I normally would... We lived here for years without locking our front door, and we don't go anywhere without locking our front door now." Despite what Lukes called "astronomical" health risks, Winnipeg administrators have "no plans to make the encampment residents leave the site." Marty asks how long open sewage and property crime near the homes of Mayor Scott Gillingham or Premier Wab Kinew would be tolerated before the encampments would be evicted. We know the answer- and so do they. ******* Following up on our coverage of the city abandoning Happyland Pool, Marty Gold wrote this column in the Winnipeg Sun on July 7 - The sad story of St. Boniface's Happyland pool, as area residents have hoisted banners pointing the finger at the Mayor and area Councilor Matt Allard for the closure. The column has gotten a lot of attention, as have the banners. ******* We keep politicians, bureaucrats and MSM on their toes, and it's all done with the financial support of listeners, readers and residents who know we will be their voice. Episode 3 showcases the return of the Crime Courts and Public Safety Update, with a look at the lasting legacy of the police chief, soon to ankle the stage. Part 2- After Coun. Jason Schreyer endorsed an idea of former Mayoral candidate Don Woodstock about recycling discarded road rubble and saving taxpayers on construction costs, we wanted Don to respond. He joins Marty Gold to review Schreyer's comments about performance bond enforcement and Winnipeg's debt from long-term interest payments, which siphons tax dollars away from pools and parks. They also discuss the sudden exit of CAO Michael Jack after a stunning audit that left Coun. Janice Lukes in tears. Comments, news tips, Interac donations, to join our email list - martygoldlive@gmail.com Has the taxpayer been duped by Jack's previous assurances the public service was being held to standards? Woodstock points the finger at the people who hired the former legalist for the top job. He notes they willingly agreed with then-Mayor Brian Bowman that outside eyes weren't needed after scandals and cost overruns rocked 510 Main St. Almost every member of the current chamber – starting with Mayor Scott Gillingham- raised their hands and promoted an insider instead. 23:25 - Part 3- The Crime Stats that usher out the Danny Smyth era illustrate a litany of failure. - Hear a by-the-numbers review of how out of control Winnipeg homes, stores and streets have become - with almost every key indicator (ie robberies, knives) a double-digit hike. - A special look at youth crime rates, and recent incidents with run-amok teens destroying a Shoppers. More than one arrest a week last year was of a kid under 12, who can't be charged. Thanks, YCJA! - The foursome- 2 aged 18, 2 girls under 18- single-handedly wiped out the narrative of a Free Press columnist. Disputing a column by Shannon Sampert, he claimed Osborne Village was booming and the closure of the River Avenue Starbucks had nothing to do with crime. Someone forgot to tell the cops that, as special foot patrols have launched in the Village, the West End and the Exchange District - Armed teens threatened other teens at the Red River Ex- and the CEO takes charge of fixing the problem - A North End 7-11 and a downtown Dollarama had to deal with criminals too- with one locking out a shoplifting homeless mob and the other catching a thief wanted on warrants. All form part of Danny Smyth's legacy. A police spokesman told the media ‘Few, if any, shelters in the city have staff trained to deal with people in a meth-induced psychosis.' We ask- Is the NDP planning for meth use at safe consumption sites? - Meanwhile, you'll hear about two local agencies duking it out over how to handle a homeless camp. We also have an odd story about a deceased person found in the West End- a demonstration of the ripple effects of crime and social disorder in a City where chaos is the new normal. A recap of violent incidents across the city is the theme of Episode 48, including a possible lead in an inner-city homicide. Part 1- Our recent episodes get a mention, as does the controversy about antisemitism on display at the University of Manitoba medical graduation- which earned a stern rebuke from the Rady family. Will this issue trip up the NDP at the doors in the Tuxedo by-election? 8:48 Part 2- Disturbing details of separate mall parking lot beatings in Tuxedo and Grant Park that newsrooms haven't warned the community about, but we do. One victim lost almost every tooth in their mouth, to a trio who took off in a stolen car; the other was carjacked in a brazen noon hour assault. One senior said they won't even carry plastic to the mall anymore, lest they be purse-snatched. Then we continue east to Osborne Village, where Mayor Gillingham visited the neighborhood with CBC last week to address the rampant crime that forced Starbucks to shutter. As Marty Gold explains, corporate practices that tolerated drugged out zombies using the restaurant until it was too late were part of the problem. 18.50- Gillingham made the point that social issues don't underly every incident, and that some criminals just "think they can get away with it." While that seems an entirely reasonable statement, an anti-cop, anti-capitalist, antisemitic professor at the University of Winnipeg ivory tower pounced with a Marxist word salad: "This rhetoric is made possible by concessions to the separation of criminalized people into categories of those who deserve to be policed and those who don't... Regardless of the person or issue being policed, policing is a repressive and harmful response." Her oppression narrative was immediately dismantled by a critic who raised the eruption of consequence-free Liquor Mart carry-out heists a few years ago, and by a fellow who works in a beer vendor describing the threats he gets. If policing represses violent thieves, the working class seems to be all for it. Check out the top episodes, make a donation towards our costs, and help our public affairs coverage spring into summer 22.30- Continuing on to St. Boniface, one 7-11 is already closed overnight, and another might not be far behind after a failed 2 am robbery. A 17 year old with priors unloaded bear spray but was tackled by 2 customers. We wonder what would keep kids like this out of trouble... more recreation probably?... except Council keeps closing pools in the French quarter. 25.30 Foodfare on Portage at Arlington keeps appearing in headlines, but after 3 employees got the brass knuckle treatment from (yet another) 17 year old, one detail wasn't heard in the news. He had been tossed out of the supermarket earlier and returned for revenge, but sources tell us- he brought some friends. Is that the kind of gang Wab Kinew said he'd go after? 27.00- A body was found in the back lane around the 400 block of Notre Dame near Isabel last Tuesday. You'll want to hear about a potential clue from someone who had played online video games with the victim, Leo Amus Caribou, and was trying to find out what happened. Rounding out the episode is a couple of arrests of violent criminals with a common denominator - failure to comply. One case involved a slew of weapons and drugs; the other, trying to mow down store employees with a stolen car. Just remember that to the Criminal Justice experts at the U of W, "policing is a repressive and harmful response." ********* Coming up: Updates on Happyland Pool, Tuxedo by-election candidates, and a chat with East Kildonan Coun. Episode 35 is a special report about our coverage of Winnipeg's troubled bike lane projects. There's more trouble for the Moving on Marion scheme- and after an interview with a city councilor, we found trouble on the horizon for another City parking-killing project, after we clued in the area businesses. When we interviewed Transcona Coun. Russ Wyatt on October 19, he had just heard something. A favorite guest of ours on Kick-FM and on City Circus on Shaw-TV, Russ Wyatt was invited to explain why he raised the Osborne Village bike lane process with area Councilor Sherri Rollins at a committee. 7:04 Bike lane going where?? In the discussion with Marty Gold about the need to "change the culture" at City Hall, he interjected that he just found out about the next target of the urban visionaries- the street synonymous with Winnipeg's working class melting pot. You'll hear the big reveal and the mutual concerns which led to us investigating. 8:16 We kept our eyes on it, and went down to Sargent Avenue. Listen to the details: the West End Biz director confirmed something was in the air and that they hadn't been consulted. Business owners told TGCTS they reject any idea of eliminating parking on Sargent, as they already struggle with rampant theft, crime and inflation. And another factor raised- bike lanes will impede police and emergency response in the West End and to Health Sciences Centre. Marty does some educated guesswork of where the bike lanes would go, how gridlocked it would be, and why no one at 510 Main Street cares- but we do. DONATE HERE- SUPPORT WINNIPEG'S ONLY PUBLIC AFFAIRS PODCAST AND ACTIONLINE 19:32 Part 2- Around the City, the Bike Lanes review: In Wolseley- traffic jams every morning. How's that idling going for ya? In Osborne Village- Stradbrook is now a narrowed clogjam, with parking in the area slashed by over 180 spots. As Wyatt pointed out, why are property owners treated differently for bike lane proposals than for local improvements? On Provencher, the BIZ set the standard, and still are, for taking a stand that bike lanes should "strike a balance between promoting sustainable transportation and preserving the heritage and vitality of our local business community." But on Marion Street a few blocks south, the Norwood Grove BIZ members were caught off-guard and kept in the dark, as we exclusively reported. We have exclusive details on how the City was forced to do another Open House just with them after our investigative series- and we learned the insincere consultation session in September made Marion St. merchants even angrier. Then, hear all about the other half of 'Moving on Marion'- Goulet Street. We describe the fiasco left behind after the project started this summer before council approved the plan - see the photos at Goulet Bike Lane Barricaded, New Lanes A Treacherous Wreck And a good news story- we report the latest from the Transcona BIZ. They caught on to what the City was up to, took a strong stand, and we report the result- the City backed off from taking away parking spots. 40:21- Listen to more from Russ Wyatt: he agrees the principles of the Assiniboine Bike Lane audit - "we will never do this again" and to provide fairness for all stakeholders - should be enforced by the 7 current Council members who voted for it in 2012, including him. But he stresses - the problem with these faulty bike lane projects starts at the top. 45:00 Part 3- Why hasn't the mainstream media reported on any of this? And, why we do. Marty explains his extensive history at City Hall going back decades and as an advocate for the average Winnipegger and small businesses. Almost simultaneously this weekend, Facebook groups from 2 neighborhoods voiced the same concern- "No Street Lights" In River Heights and St. Boniface residents started piecing together what they- and Marty Gold- have noticed for weeks and months. Episode 25 compiles those observations into an undeniable conclusion: Manitoba Hydro is failing to provide an essential safety service, and City Councilors who mouth platitudes about "public safety" aren't standing up to be counted. From Grant to Tache and from Corydon to Norwood Flats, the street lights aren't on. And it isn't just in those districts - from the West End to the Main Street strip, areas where fear of break-ins and muggings is already peaking, darkness looms over anyone needing to walk home from a late night shift or to catch a bus. And 311 won't lift a finger to help -Marty Gold has the details, including how both the City and Manitoba Hydro discourage residents wanting to report the dangerous failures. It's outrageous, and Winnipeggers deserve better. Whether it's a daytime triple stabbing in Osborne Village or an evening shooting near Health Sciences Centre, the neighbours both said the same thing - 'we gotta move'. TGCTS reviews the details of the stabbings and the stabber, who seems linked to the homeless encampment near the Osborne Bridge. What don't city officials mention when they discuss "services" provided free of charge to those camps? Osborne Village has had an 82% increase in crime since 2019. Will the area MLA - a certain Manitoba premier - and the area councilor take a stand for the people who thought going to the drug store was a safe decision? Here's what one of their Village constituents, a father with small children told the media: “What kind of human wants to live in this kind of environment, where you could be subject to a random variable. I don't know what to do anymore. It's just a constant issue.” ****** Coming up: Opposition is building against Mayor Gillingham's rush to meet federal demands and change zoning rules to access federal cash- which neighborhoods will be the losers? In Episode 20 we interview Transcona Councilor Russ Wyatt, following up on his remarks at a Public Works committee meeting challenging the anti-car agenda of Ft. Rouge rep Sherri Rollins. Wyatt spoke out against the bike lane and road closure demands of Rollins, and wants the City to adapt a local improvement petition process to get stakeholder approval of bike lanes, instead of "randomly wiping out parking for residents and small businesses." 4:38 - Wyatt explains why he questioned Rollins about the loss of Osborne Village parking for new bike lanes: - The parking management plans for new developments were approved when hundreds more public parking spots were available. Wyatt asked Rollins if the plans are being revised, and she fumed. - Hear him blast the faux "public consultations" held in the Village and in St. Boniface; he complains the City is telling residents and mom & pop shops "this is happening whether you like it or not." - "Other cities have established programs to upgrade intersections along major regional streets, we're doing the exact opposite." - The City has $180M to properly repair every sub-par street, and treat business and home owners fairly, "if we have the vision and political will to do it." Marty points out, the MSM has defended the rigging of the bike lane process, which is counter-productive to the public interest. 16:40 Part 2 with Coun. Russ Wyatt - Wyatt confirms that City Councilors were never informed that 99 parking spots were being erased around Goulet and Marion for bike lanes in the St. Boniface Hospital district, and never heard of a plan to remove parking on Traverse. - From Arlington in the west end to Youville in St. B, the total parking loss for bike lanes is almost 400 parking spaces. No one could have run for Mayor on that platform and win. - Wyatt says that Mayor Scott Gillingham promised the Chamber of Commerce he'd be focused on 'customer service'. But instead, small businesses are being hammered by a biased bureaucracy. "The Goulet project could have been stopped by this Mayor... I don't know why the tail is wagging the dog." said Wyatt, 24.00 Hear the roll call - 7 of the current members of Winnipeg Council, including Wyatt, voted to accept the audit of the Assiniboine Bike Lane a decade ago. They vowed in Jan. 2012 to ensure the public and affected businesses and property owners were given full information about potential impacts of roadway changes. Will they stand up to the bike lobby as they promised? "I remember when that bike lane went down and all hell broke loose... If we take the word of the Mayor, 'the culture has to change'. When?" asks Wyatt. Later this week- more with Russ Wyatt about the state of the City, and more about yet another proposed business-busting bike lane. The local Palestinian spokesman, who lauded Hitler's genocide against Jews in the past, told the media "that's just the way things go". Marty Gold opens Episode 17 by thanking listeners who've expressed their concern and support after the war started in Israel. Those issues, the local impact and local media coverage will be in the next episode. We filed a story as soon as we learned of the kidnapping of former Winnipeg resident Vivian Silver, and provide her own words to describe her career working for peace: Hamas Terrorists Kidnap Peace Activist Originally from Winnipeg ****** 4.30 - It was back to the future for Transcona Councilor Russ Wyatt! He reminded fellow Public Works committee members that installing the Assiniboine bike lane in 2010 resulted in perpetual gridlock downtown- and he's not going to let Coun. Sherri Rollins make it worse with her latest urban visionary ideas. You'll hear a lot of audio from the Oct. 10 Public Works meeting, with Marty connecting the dots. 9:17 - "Vision Zero" champion Rollins, whose Fort Rouge ward includes downtown, appeared in delegation to "implore" that the Public Works committee immediately order plans for design changes at major intersections to thwart traffic because of the "frequency" and "predictability" of pedestrian deaths... of course it's all "urban form" approved by the bike lobby. 14.03 - If her presentation didn't make sense, don't worry, because Marty unravels it- explaining the background of the idea, abandoned by the Manitoba Club, to close the Assiniboine intersection at Main Street. Rollins, clearly uninformed, insists it must be revived. 21:59- Hear Russ Wyatt quiz Rollins about her anti-car ideas, asking how many parking spots are lost for new bike lanes in Osborne Village. (Rollins answered "Quite a few", which by the way, is 206.) He noted other factors Rollins ignores, like property owner rights; then they spar over her next election bid. 25:52 – Marty explains how Rollins fudged her answers. Yes- your financial support will get results because we have the passion to fight for you. Our track record proves it. Donate via paypal.com/paypalme/MartyGoldMedia 31:51 Part 2 - Audio of Councilors Wyatt, Lukes, Chambers and Sharma debating the 3-headed motion. 34:02 - You'll hear the instant Wyatt and Chambers realize the Rollins plan to block the Assiniboine corner means 'no more left off of Main?" Listen to annoyed public service experts and Coun. Chambers walk thru the current and proposed traffic flow and how "This isn't a complete street concept." 39:52 – We review how a drive from St. Boniface to the Hotel Fort Garry will be delayed by this iteration of "Vision Zero". 41:14 - Russ Wyatt provides a history lesson and harkens back to our coverage on Kick-FM. He warned councilors: "'Imposing the bike lanes on Assiniboia" led to 13 years of headaches. Based on a City audit our reporting provoked: "(the mayor) said we'd never do it again... but here we are again, proposing to close something which is not broken." Wyatt pipes up for the residents of downtown and the suburbs "who actually take that left turn..." because Broadway was turned into a total shambles. "Now we're proposing to make it even worse??" Wyatt also mentions legal repercussions past - and in the future. "Why do we have staff doing reports on things we aren't going to be doing?"" Listener feedback on some recent podcast topics, and a brief recap of two court decisions that embarassed the City of Winnipeg, opens Episode 36. This first segment points towards follow-ups in upcoming episodes- such as the alarming delay of an ambulance in St. Boniface. Those may become more commonplace if the City rams through proposed bike lanes. Marty also speaks about the passing of longtime family friend Norman Freedman, who contributed so much to our city as a social worker, volunteer and community leader. 17:39 - It's the first TGCTS interview of the 2023 provincial election! Last week Marty ventured to a fundraiser at the Pony Corral to meet a Progressive Conservative candidate poised to try to do the unthinkable- break the NDP hammerlock on constituencies north of the 53rd parallel. Listeners will hear Sports Minister Obby Khan prime the enthusiastic and multi-ethnic crowd with a distinctly non-partisan message about the Conservative's efforts to woo voters in the 16 remote communities of Keewatinook, and then hear from the candidate himself. 25:18 - Michael Birch is a newcomer to politics but no newcomer to making things happen. Birch brings voters a resume featuring an extensive background in business development, working with First Nations communities. As the Tories look to open a new northern front in the seat-by-seat battle to win the election, Birch says, "We're not going in this to lose!" In a fast and fun interview, he describes his platform of reforming the "welfare dependent state" and creating economic prosperity in those remote communities by expanding mining operations. Birch also reveals his secret weapon- a campaign team that once dislodged an NDP deputy premier. Marty assesses the Tory campaign tactics in light of polls showing a neck and neck race- do they improve the chances to upend the NDP and inch towards re-election? ** Chip in this week to ensure more great election reporting ** - Online via paypal.com/paypalme/MartyGoldMedia 38:49 Part 2- Two items under the Crime tab you'll want to hear about: 1) A listener sent along a link to a TV news story about Premier Stefanson's commitment for increased public safety funding for downtown. He figured Marty might have some observations. Sure thing! How was the headline for the video misleading? Hear why the true nature of the extremist group that Winnipeg newsrooms love to platform is hardly "grassroots". 2) Marty reads aloud an online commentary by a River Heights property owner who has had to call the cops 15 - fifteen - times this year. "I agree with all the cameras they are putting downtown … it's about time! But that does nothing to help Osborne Village, West Broadway, Wolseley, Crescentwood, etc." She went into specific shocking details you won't believe- police response was rare and when they did show up, removing the problematic criminals was not their priority. And this wasn't about loitering- the cases included church, garage and car break-ins, a wanted murder suspect, and a vandal toting around a giant hammer. "I am thoroughly disgusted with this neighbourhood and this city. The crime in River Heights/ Crescentwood is rampant!" At the end of the episode, Marty notes who her city councilor is- John Orlikow. A few observations are voiced about Orlikow denouncing a court ruling that will costs taxpayers $5M in damages to Gem Equities. While bureaucrats he was pressuring "were aware their conduct was unlawful and likely to cause harm to the plaintiffs", do the facts back up his claim that his ethics and conduct in the scandal were above reproach and the court got it wrong? In coming episodes, listeners will hear the judge's findings about Orlikow quoted directly from her ruling, and more comments about the case - from a former city hall insider. ********** - JOIN OUR FACEBOOK GROUP https://www.facebook.com/groups/TGCTS - To sponsor podcasts / contribute support by email: martygoldlive@gmail.com
Episode 23 has updates on our recent newsmaking investigative stories; audio with an insightful Canadian history lesson; and exclusive details about the Polo Park machete attack on 4 kids - and who is supporting the accused young offender. Last week's Special Report is now the most listened to episode of TGCTS since our re-launch. Listen to East St. Paul Parents Stop School From Canceling Mother's Day Since that podcast, we learned the school principal gave an evolving explanation for trying and failing to cancel Mother's Day. His E-Memo on May 5 plainly stated Dr. F.W.L. Hamilton school had arbitrarily enacted "a transition to a more inclusive practice" as "we have moved away from isolated observances of specific traditions like Mother's and Father's Day". When a mother said she was relieved by his reversal of the edict, he mentioned the "intent" of the "school leadership team" - which he didn't disclose when Marty Gold first started asking questions. It's obvious the idea had nothing to do with 'being sensitive' to kids in "traumatic situations." Marty explains how the failed gambit ties into the pattern across the country of schools reinstating Mother's Day after they got caught undermining community values. Media chasing our story tried to smear parents in East St. Paul for being "traditionalists" and against "inclusion". We will have a Special Report in a few days to expose the newsroom bias against those families and provide a Lesson in Woke Journalism. Join our email list & get it sent immediately to you - martygoldlive@gmail.com 12:26 The War on Cars in Winnipeg - our recent series exposing how bike lanes are being snuck into St. Boniface is the tip of the iceberg. Marty attended the Portage and Main Open House on Day 1 - and got consultants to admit they left transportation sectors out of discussions. He thinks councilors need to be shown photos of the display placards- there was a lot of pushback on the anti-car urbanist concepts from sceptical attendees with common sense observations. One proposal, however, got almost unanimous support councilors should be informed of. Marty discusses the New Urbanism movement that tries to achieve policy goals by infiltrating government planning and rigged public consultation processes instead of winning support at the ballot box. The newly-announced Osborne Village plan is another 'supported by the Biz' concept - Marty asks, what if the Biz in St. Boniface opposed Moving on Marion bike lanes? If they say "no way" to throttling traffic and killing commerce- would they get their way? Maybe that's why the Open House didn't mention the 99 parking spots at risk in St. B. Meanwhile, tricks to silence unsupportive stakeholders in Brandon backfired, as people pushed back. CBC immediately labeled them as promoting a "conspiracy theory" about 15 minute cities. But it's no conspiracy theory. We explain how it is being imposed in England and will kill off normal, acceptable social activities like the symphony, and deconstruct the night-time economy in the name of "climate crisis." The perverse ideology to disrupt your community is pushed by a well-connected, funded lobby with professional organization- we speak for the rest of you. ** Welcome to our new listeners! More news on opposition to new St. Boniface bike lanes, provincial politicians saying mean things about each other, tough questions about teenage criminals, and exclusive audio featuring Conrad Black talking about the CBC - all on Episode 22! This week, Marty recaps how St. Boniface residents and enterprises were completely denied any meaningful input as the City hid plans to eliminate 99 parking spaces to make room for bike lanes. Manipulating the public consultation process is a key tactic used by the "it's a climate emergency!" crowd all across Winnipeg; St. Boniface is the latest example. Among the business owners, anger is building - this week even more of them told TGCTS they resent being excluded by City Hall. We reveal the tepid response to a hit-and-miss Norwood Grove Biz survey, as the organization tries to regain the trust of its members and distance itself from the perception the group had signed off on a plan that will devastate the shopping district on Marion and on Goulet. ** Help us with our bike lane investigation costs today: paypal.com/paypalme/MartyGoldMedia ** The negative effects of the bike lanes on the neighborhood near the St. Boniface Hospital - eliminating the priority bus lane for morning commuters, creating a Goulet Ave. bottleneck, impeding emergency vehicles- is comparable to neighbourhoods near the MiserIcordia Hospital and Osborne Village who are also ready to fight back. Marty recalls reports from 8 years ago about bike lane process "hiccups" - so described by a certain city councilor - that have never, ever been fixed. Why not? Hear what else that same councilor said, that directly relates to the fears of residents on Dollard Blvd. leading to the hospital. Dozens of fed-up stakeholders say they won't roll over for a fringe group that couldn't round up 75 supporters for their showcase cycling event last weekend. Meanwhile, St. B. Coun. Matt Allard continues to stay silent about the scandal. Pourquoi? 18:15 - Over at the Legislature- media hype about pre-election attack ads between the reigning "they fired nurses!" PC's and the "GST will hit 10%!" NDP. It's so dishonest! said another party leader, ignoring how their own favorite in Ottawa relied on the same playbook to get elected. While rumours swirl about NDP anxiety over Wab Kinew's stagnating support, the MSM searches for a fresh layer of tarnish to put on Premier Stefanson. We will continue to build our coverage around the genuine serious issues facing voters in the October election. 26:47 - Lord Conrad Black was hosted in a 'fireside chat' style interview by the Frontier Centre for Public Policy last week. It was moderated by an ex-Red River College VP who guested with us in the KIck-FM studio back in the day! He posed thoughful questions about politics, history and mainstream media to the former newspaper magnate. 31:49 - Hear Conrad Black describe how he'd reform the CBC. He didn't mince words - "we're all amateur psychologists" he noted before explaining what he thinks of the majority of the newsroom occupants and executive office dwellers at the Ceeb. 34:02 - Marty provides a value proposition for TGCTS listeners: Our local focus earns your support by providing a voice for those ignored by MSM elitists. Holding government accountable is essential to an informed, engaged public. 53:26 - Crime, Courts & Public Safety: What's the record for a single car being broken into downtown? We have a new winner. We run down the incidents and charges involving armed, violent, young thugs - so many teenagers are victims of robbery, stabbings and worse. From Weston to St. Boniface, from west end schoolyards to St. Boniface greenways, there's predatory violence everywhere and no responsible adults in sight. What should concern everyone, is how certain kinds of delivery drivers were targeted and were never warned by police. Share this podcast! This week, we let you hear for yourself how radical climate activists tried to entrench even more influence inside City Hall under the guise of "budget consultation". Then, Marty explains how their subversive anti-car agenda is exposed in the rigged 'Moving on Marion' bike lane process we investigated in our YouTube video series. The mainstream media leapt to defend far-left special interest lobbyists like Marianne Cerilli and assailed Coun. Jeff Browaty for daring to reply to her Community Committee presentation by noting: "Just because you've come to council, your opinions aren't more important." What was he rebutting, exactly? No one in the media actually explained what Cerilli said at the EK-Transcona meeting. But we do- and it was outrageous. * YOU CAN SUPPORT TGCTS via paypal.com/paypalme/MartyGoldMedia * 7:46 Clip 1- Hear "healthy communities' consultant Cerilli reveal her extreme policy goals - to cut gas use in half by forcing 50% of car users onto bikes and buses, or ride-sharing aka 'mode shift'. 13:47 Clip 2 - In response, Browaty put the former NDP MLA in her place. He cited working folks who can't spend hours at formal proceedings and instead speak up through talk radio shows, online posts and personally contacting their councilor. When Browaty dared suggest the 'climate change' reactionaries wrongly marginalize taxpayers who don't want to "blow things up", the name-calling revved up. Marty skewers the ridiculous blowback at Browaty and the hypocricy of the critics. 19:34 Clip 3 - Listen to a sneering Cerilli demean the residents Browaty represents- because if they "take their kids to soccer" it's "destroying the planet" and they are in "Climate Denial." Her startling outburst is a clue of what's behind repeated biased bike lane planning. The bike/eco lobby wants to burn local economies to 'save the planet'. Almost 300 parking spaces will get sacrificed in Winnipeg's war on cars. City bureaucrats go along with it. 21:16 TGCTS has found a city-wide pattern of discrimination in the exclusion of residents and businesses from proper consultation on bike lanes. It extends from Wolseley through Osborne Village and with 'Moving on Marion" to St. B. The negative impacts of bike lanes and throttling roadways are never explained at Open House events orchestrated by high paid City consultants - who pick and choose which stakeholders to keep in the loop, and don't divulge serious impacts on emergency services and the viability of local stores. One-sided reporting is a hallmark of Winnipeg legacy media- and it's a key trick for imposing anti-car, anti-commerce bike lanes. Activists insist the City alter roadways to disrupt business, employment, and travel in local neighborhoods 'for their own good'. As a result, we are told, in the Village "there will not be loading areas for people moving in and out, or handicapped loading or delivery drivers anywhere unless they are delivering Skip by bike." Marty explains how next week's Portage and Main "consultations" are clearly rigged- while 'urban visionaries' disregard Coun. Wyatt's warning: "there will not only be pedestrian injuries, but there will be fatalities." One person noted: "it was horrible to cross... at rush hour it got really scary to cross." 34:20 Part 2 - A brief update about the passing of 2 longtime friends, Mike Phillips and Kaz Bednarchyk. Stories from SLAM! Wrestling about Mike are here and here, and our YouTube video tribute to Kaz is here. Also- a reminder of how pathetic rural cel service is compared to Saskatchewan and how Manitoba Hydro could help save lives in remote areas but won't. 42:20 Part 3 - Crime Courts & Public Safety: How come Cindy Tugwell and Heritage Winnipeg can't connect vacant properties and arson? Residents in the North End can. Hear about a racist cabbie murderer facing deportation and why a 12 year old stabbed a north end girl. Share this podcast! This week TGCTS exclusively reveals what the vaunted City of Winnipeg "public engagement" Open House in March hid from St. Boniface residents and merchants about area parking. 3.00 Part 5 on the Moving on Marion plan: Marty Gold investigates a bottomless pit of inept and seemingly corrupted public consultation. On the weekend we informed area residents of our YouTube series. They reacted just like the businesses did: they don't support bike lanes they never heard about and were never asked about. They spoke of the damaging ripple effects on their daily lives. City Hall won't listen- but we do. ** SUPPORT TGCTS via Paypal https://www.paypal.com/paypalme/MartyGoldMedia ** 8.00 Homeowners, tenants, and hard-working employees listened to Episode 18 last week and voiced their own suspicions of a shady consultation process. On the defensive, the former ward assistant to St. B councilor Matt Allard inadvertently gave away the game. Ryan Palmquist - now a school trustee and no stranger to cashing taxpayer-funded cheques - mocked our fundraising pitch to listeners on Facebook, claiming this scandal is made up. Mistake #1. Palmquist denied there was a "silent backdoor agenda", citing "4 public meetings, multiple mailouts, dozens of posters, social media...". He wouldn't answer what Biz members were ever told about the projected parking cuts. Then Mistake #2: He revealed who blindsided the business stakeholders. "It was literally the then (Biz) Executive Director who was one of the key champions of this vision and was involved every step of the way. I'm not sure what you're talking about." So, Marty asked the Norwood Grove Biz for board minutes verifying she told her employers the plan she 'championed' will chop NINETY-NINE parking spaces and if they supported it. "Norwood Grove Biz is organizing an Open House with our members about the Moving on Marion to listen to their voices and what they have to say about this plan." Is it a scandal yet? 21.00 Marty dives into the public policy issues. With his question about "Available Spaces" answered on Twitter by another Councilor, Marty does the math to prove the list given Janice Lukes- who took over as Public Works chair from Allard- concealed the real number by leaving out a street. Unbelievable. What would the effect be of losing 100 spots- and loading zones- for bike lanes? A listener explains Osborne Village will soon find out- "red hot anger." It's the 2010 bike lane fake "public consultation" scam that a City audit slammed. 28.00 After Palmquist insisted the public was properly informed by the City, Marty checked his claim on the street north of Goulet that leads to the front door of the hospital. Hear the reaction to our handouts from 22 voters on Dollard Blvd. It obliterates any City Hall BS that the bike lane process was fair, transparent or competent. Residents echoed concerns for the future of the bank and other enterprises, and raised new concerns: busier streets & lanes, delayed ambulance response, impacts on the disabled and their own safety. Marty reviews plans to steal over 30% of parking, cut a priority bus lane, and reduce reliable bus service instead of improving it. Why no Park n' Ride lots for commuters? "The Biz supports the plan" lie was used to quell dissent at the Open House where business owners weren't invited and "before and after" parking numbers were hidden. A redesigned 2-lane Marion and Goulet is an example of 'Improper Planning' where the bike lobby and anti-car radicals thrive as area stakeholders are shafted. Dollard Blvd. folks don't have a residents group to be their voice, and their councilor ignores them. That's a scandal. 45.40 Crime Courts and Public Safety: 'Obby vs. Wabby' and intimidation accusations against Wab Kinew at the Legislature; Shared Health gets caught lying that they care about nurse and patient safety around Health Sciences Centre; and a grab bag of violence and crime from St. Vital to Garden City in the last week.

This week, Marty and Spirited Kenny bring 3 segments full of unique insight and analysis to Episode 2! In Part 1, the pending retirements of Manitoba PC government cabinet ministers and MLA's gets looked at. Knowing some of the players, Marty runs thru the list and evaluates the 'abandoning ship' media narrative. 4:30 What's going to happen in McPhillips with Shannon Martin? A few observations about that riding and the exits of Pedersen, Lagomodiere, Clarke, Cullen, Wishart, Eichler, et al; what decisions will other longtime Conservative denizens of the Legislature make, as the Pallister era vets are culling themselves from the blue herd? 9:40 Myrna Dreidger and her slap back at speculation about why she's moving on. Marty adds some personal comments about the Speaker from C'wood. 15:10 The whispers about the health of Premier Heather Stefanson - what if she also decides not to contest the 2023 election? How might the overall turnover affect the campaign strategy, that will surely focus on NDP leader Wab Kinew and unresolved issues from his tumultuous past? 21:00 The Manitoba LIberals will have a tough task to find votes. A Carstairs 88 breakthrough is always their dream but they're wearing a Trudeau anchor. Also, will there be a Lib-held seat opening up? 23:00 The potential NDP alternative led by Kinew: Voters face the potential of some un-appealing radicals seated at the cabinet table. 26:24 - Part 2 - Kenny's turn! He compares the CTV Winnipeg and GlobalTV news stories about a 'pilot project' reducing speed limits in 4 neighborhoods and parses the details, hectoring Coun. Janice Lukes for calling the idea the result of a "public outcry", and applauds another Councilor for expressing some common sense. Kenny picks apart the media attempt to shame the City with Fake News. https://winnipeg.ctvnews.ca/city-looks-to-move-forward-with-pilot-project-to-lower-residential-speed-limits-1.6218269 https://globalnews.ca/news/9390603/winnipeg-canadian-cities-reduced-speed-limits/ 35:35 - Part 3 - First, a pitch for your support as we prepare to report on the provincial election. Guess why? A hint - it is directly connected to the guy who gave the owner the award! Brian Bowman's failed term as Winnipeg Mayor, where criminals were coddled and small businesses left to fend for themselves, made shoplifting a free-for-all sport in our city. Bowman failed to show leadership when it came to crime and degeneracy, and he created a situation where bus passengers are in constant fear and security guards are a common sight in this city. Episode 18, despite the numerical error at the beginning, is up! Marty educates Spirited Kenny a little bit about the High Holy Days and Jewish guilt and then veers stright into civic election news opinions and info-tainment... 5:00 Not many policy announcements had traction so far - but Tom Brodbeck told Free Press readers one that is "doable" -- is Jenny Motkaluk's idea to legally seize derilict properties, put them to auction and have landlords rebuild them to rent to the homeless. 7:00 Marty makes the rounds to a couple of Mayoral campaign offices. After reading about him in Gene Telpner's column for years, he met Hannon Bell at the Kevin Klein HQ; scored a home-baked cookie from Gillingham's digs in Osborne Village; and then an hour later walking to Shoppers met one candidate with nice T-Shirts and no bricks-and-mortar location. After exchanging introductions, Shaun Loney was asked what message he had for our listeners- He specifically spoke about infrstructure promises made by... Klein and Gilingham! Proposals he scoffed at for costing a projected $100M. 12:40 The latest Probe poll was Loney Tunes! The newsrooms gave no serious analysis to this "poll" (Loney 14/Gillingham 15/Murray 40 = 'a 25% lead!') but we did. Listen as we break down the numbers, proported to the media and public to have any legitimacy when the undecided borders on 40% (and 8% more won't vote). Supplying the media with clickbait and headlines does not serve the electorate. MSM isn't being held to account, because when they claim Glen Murray is "frontrunner" with "solid support" in a "poll of 600 online voters", his actual committed vote is literally, all of 50 people from that original 600. Hear us do the math the media won't. 20:00 Coun. Cindy Gilory was forced to react to the videos of back lane trash-heaps in her ward by Don Woodstock. Either Gilroy didn't explain herself properly or she exposed she is clueless after 8 years in office. Hear why she has no idea how the city failed to enforce its own rules for occupancy permits and health codes and why her solution does nothing to make the neighborhood safer or help landlords solve the garbage problem. 32:00 Rick Shone did some informal polling about political awareness... well, hear how low the political IQ was from respondents. How many don't know the election date? We explain that even in 2018, one councilor didn't know basic civics. A nice note from Coun. Markus Chambers to Marty is discussed, in light of Chambers previously responding in 2021 when a Jewish rally was assaulted by antisemites and Mayor Bowman stayed silent; and lastly, a listener's thoughful comments about the election, crime and derelict housing. 38:00 Part 2 - More thoughts about Gilroy's misguided garbage response - what was the Permit Office up to? 43:30 An extensive crime round-up, with arrests in 100 bike thefts, a 72 year old woman dragged from her car in broad daylight 4 blocks from the St Boniface Hospital, a self-styled Bonnie and Clyde stabbed 3 people in a car-theft kidnapping spree, and 5 drug-peddling dudes from Edmonton were ripping off stores while armed to the teeth. Add in another homicide too, of course. 59:30 This violent disorder lands on police leadership, but Kenny agrees that WPS members and the public have no faith in Danny "Robo-Smyth". No wonder Motkaluk wants cops to patrol buses, after a pervert molested women on 5 buses last week no description was released by police. 1:16:22 Recap of Marty's interview on CJOB! What's the value of Osborne Village? If you ask the city's taxation department you'll learn that several spots along the strip are valued in the millions, but that doesn't mean much if you can't afford the rent. Let's talk to somebody who lives and works there. That's coming up next. [00:00:10.100] You're listening to the Bo Knows Real Estate podcast, tips and advice for homebuyers, buyers, sellers and owners with award winning Remax agent Bo Kauffmann. [00:00:25.860] - Bo Kauffmann - REMAX Winnipeg has a lot of fantastic neighborhoods, some well known like Osborn Village and Corydon Village, and another rapidly growing and expanding district is the Winnipeg's Exchange District. Now, some of you may know I've been publishing a blog for all going on 12 years now, and I've been publishing a podcast for about eight or 10 years. [00:00:45.270] - Bo Kauffmann - REMAX And a young lady by the name of Sagan Morrow has been writing articles for my blog almost from about 10 years ago. And I know she has a condo in the exchange district. So I went to her when I wanted to talk to somebody about life and work in that district. I reached out to her and she was more than willing to come on to the podcast. So by way of introduction, Sagan Morrow teaches busy, time crunched solopreneurs, how to build their own successful home based businesses without the overwhelm, through online courses and business resources at Sagan Morrow. com I'll have the links in the show notes. She specializes in productivity tips and action oriented strategic planning for multi passionate creatives. Sagan has over a decade of experience as a freelance writer and hosts the indie author weekly podcast. When she isn't teaching solopreneurs or doing freelance work for her own clients, Sagan likes to write romance novels. All right. So I'm here with Sagan, moral productivity strategist and author and Sagan that's been living in Winnipeg exchange district in a condo for quite a while. [00:01:58.440] - Sagan Morrow How many years, Sagan? [00:01:59.940] - Sagan Morrow It's been ten years now. [00:02:02.880] - Bo Kauffmann - REMAX And same place in a condo? [00:02:04.760] - Sagan Morrow Yes. Yes. I bought my condo. I lived. I lived in author and village briefly. And then in West Broadway. And then this is the first the first condo that I bought. It was the first place I ever even looked at when I was looking for a home. And I just fell in love with it immediately. And I bought it and I. I've been here ever since. I'm very happy here. [00:02:25.500] - Bo Kauffmann - REMAX Is it one of those, like I'm not asking for your address here, but is that one of these, like, warehouses that's been converted which what the exchange district is really known for? [00:02:34.230] - Sagan Morrow Yes, that's exactly what it is. You've got like exposed brick and all that. Yeah, OK. Very nice. All right. [00:02:42.000] - Bo Kauffmann - REMAX So you've lived in always the like he said Osborne Village and some of the other nice areas. What do you like about the exchange district? [00:02:48.630] - Sagan Morrow You know, it's been really wonderful to live here over the past 10 years and see how much the exchange has changed and grown and evolved over that time. It's been absolutely incredible to see how many more people are in the area. And I love it. It's such a cultural hub and that there are so many different things that you can do. And it's absolutely beautiful with all of these historical buildings. It's it's such a central place. That's just wonderful. [00:03:16.560] - Bo Kauffmann - REMAX Right. What are some of the things that list some of the things that you like to do and maybe some that most people don't really know about? [00:03:25.320] - Sagan Morrow So, you know, the little boutiques and that kind of thing in the area are so lovely. There's a lot there's a very strong sense of community that I think a lot of people don't even realize is a theme in the exchange. But it's true. You know, when you go to the restaurants, when you go to these little boutiques, you get to know the people who are working there and they are just absolutely wonderful. We have just such amazing people living and working and the exchange district and its such a walkable community as well. [00:03:53.460] - Sagan Morrow I mean, there's you know, you turn a corner and there's all kinds of new things to look at. And there's, yeah, there's just many different components to the area and having really, really cool little parks nearby and being so close to the river and all of that as well. I mean, the Forks is super close to walk, right? Wow. Really neat. [00:04:13.230] - Bo Kauffmann - REMAX Yeah. And the exchange actually is on both sides of Main Street. Right. So you're talking about the west and the east side of Main Street. Yes. Yes. What about restaurants? Is there is I understand there's quite a few restaurants in that area. [00:04:26.640] - Sagan Morrow Yeah. I am a huge fan of Peasant Cookery. They make a wonderful French. Seventy five. I'm I also absolutely adore Keenon Ban. Their sandwiches are wonderful. The wet and dry department above the Mitchell block on the other side of of Main Street is really wonderful. The fourth cafe and fourth bar are so glad. And I also have really enjoyed Cordova Tapas, which is, you know, a bit of a bit of a jam, I think in the exchange that a lot of people don't really think about. [00:05:01.050] - Sagan Morrow When you're thinking about Tapas Winnipeg, you often think about Segovia, which is a bright place in the village. Right. Right. Cordova is really great as well. [00:05:08.670] - Bo Kauffmann - REMAX Where are they located again? [00:05:10.490] - Sagan Morrow Cordova is on Albert Street. Okay. Yeah. Right. [00:05:15.000] - Bo Kauffmann - REMAX Yeah. You're saying it's all within walking distance and that's a good thing because I think parking a lot of people, when they think about exchange, they think about the trouble there is parking. [00:05:23.200] - Sagan Morrow Right. So everything is. Once you once you found a place or you parked your car, everything's within walking distance. Yes, absolutely. And, you know, they've also done a really great job. I was I was quite impressed when they when they added in the bike paths I was a little bit concerned. [00:05:37.720] - Sagan Morrow At first I was like, oh, no, how. How was how is this going to go? But the bike parts are absolutely wonderful in the area. They've done a really great job of separating them from the street so that it is quite safe for for people cycling. So there's a lot of different ways to to move around the area, which is great. [00:05:56.830] - Bo Kauffmann - REMAX Most people that would just say that a lot of people that live in the exchange also work in that area or or is catching a bus. Is that no problem getting transportation out into other areas of town? [00:06:08.740] - Sagan Morrow The bus system is really good. I mean, it's for her, the transit system in Winnipeg great here at the general rule. But yeah, the buses are really great. You can get to pretty much anywhere in the city very directly through the transit system. But I would I would say that a lot of people who live in the area also work somewhere close by. And I mean for myself, I work from home, which is very lovely. [00:06:35.410] - Bo Kauffmann - REMAX Right. Well, maybe tell us what you do a little bit. [00:06:37.810] - Sagan Morrow Oh, sure. I am a productivity strategist, Sipes. I teach people how to manage their time and energy effectively. And I also write novels and I do some freelance writing and editing, as I can attest to, because Sagan's been writing blog posts for me. [00:06:56.770] - Bo Kauffmann - REMAX We've been doing this for about ten years and like I said, we've never met in person. It's always been just over the phone or via email. [00:07:03.910] - Sagan Morrow Yes, it's it's incredible that we haven't, you know, at some point ran into each other. [00:07:09.160] - Bo Kauffmann - REMAX We should go for coffee sometime, but maybe when this whole thing is over. That's right. Yeah. Yes. Anything else you want to share with us about living and working in the exchange district? [00:07:20.470] - Sagan Morrow I think I just want to add that there is the exchange is a very unique part of Winnipeg and it's very special. And there are so many different aspects of it that no matter what your interests are, there is something for you in the area. I love going to see the theater at Manitoba theater center. I love going to the ballet and the opera. The Fringe is here in the summer. It was actually fantastic. I mean, the depth different festivals that take place at the Cube at old market square, really wonderful. [00:07:53.020] - Sagan Morrow There's a lot of different small art galleries in the area. And people often don't really think about that sort of side of things. But, you know, once you start wandering the streets and you start looking around at the all these beautiful historical buildings, you realize just how many of them have these wonderful. Yeah. Galleries, not kind of famous part of them. So I would absolutely say, you know, take the time to explore the exchange and and really come down and enjoy it as a as an opportunity to see a little bit and maybe a different side of the city. [00:08:27.460] - Sagan Morrow Right. Right. It's just absolutely wonderful. And I would highly encourage anyone who's, you know, thinking about living in the exchange. I've always felt very safe here. It's it's a beautiful part of town and I adore it. I would highly recommend it to anyone. [00:08:42.970] - Bo Kauffmann - REMAX Well, you certainly have a lot of passion in your voice when you talk about it. So I was quite happy to hear to hear that. So. Well, thank you very much for spending the time with me. SAGAN And I'm sure will we'll talk again and you'll be writing another blog blog post for me again in the very near future. [00:08:58.750] - Sagan Morrow Yeah. Thanks so much for having me. OK. Thank you. Sagan Bye-Bye. [00:09:02.660] - Bo Kauffmann - REMAX So as we just heard, there's a lot of stuff to do and see and restaurants to to visit in the exchange district. So I just took a quick look at the market and there are currently 14 condos available in the exchange district. Priced anywhere from two hundred thousand dollars at the low end to just a shade over five hundred thousand dollars for a nice luxury unit on waterfront drive. [00:09:24.700] - Bo Kauffmann - REMAX So if you're looking to buy a condo in Winnipeg, whether it's in the exchange just trigged Osborne Village or anywhere else, give me a shout. It's Bo Kauffmann Remax Performance Realty 204-333-2202. [00:09:36.950] - Bo Kauffmann - REMAX And hey, if you're still with me at this point, why not? Let's talk to somebody who lives and works there. That's coming up next. [00:00:10.100]You're listening to the Bo Knows Real Estate podcast, tips and advice for homebuyers, buyers, sellers and owners with award winning Remax agent Bo Kauffmann. [00:00:25.860] - Bo Kauffmann - REMAXWinnipeg has a lot of fantastic neighborhoods, some well known like Osborn Village and Corydon Village, and another rapidly growing and expanding district is the Winnipeg's Exchange District. Now, some of you may know I've been publishing a blog for all going on 12 years now, and I've been publishing a podcast for about eight or 10 years. [00:00:45.270] - Bo Kauffmann - REMAXAnd a young lady by the name of Sagan Morrow has been writing articles for my blog almost from about 10 years ago. [00:01:58.440] - Sagan MorrowHow many years, Sagan? [00:01:59.940] - Sagan MorrowIt's been ten years now. [00:02:02.880] - Bo Kauffmann - REMAXAnd same place in a condo? [00:02:04.760] - Sagan MorrowYes. Yes. I bought my condo. (https://blog.winnipeghomefinder.com/buying-a-condo-infographic/) I lived. I lived in author and village briefly. And then in West Broadway. And then this is the first the first condo that I bought. It was the first place I ever even looked at when I was looking for a home. And I just fell in love with it immediately. And I bought it and I. I've been here ever since. I'm very happy here. [00:02:25.500] - Bo Kauffmann - REMAXIs it one of those, like I'm not asking for your address here, but is that one of these, like, warehouses that's been converted which what the exchange district is really known for? [00:02:34.230] - Sagan MorrowYes, that's exactly what it is. You've got like exposed brick and all that. Yeah, OK. Very nice. All right. [00:02:42.000] - Bo Kauffmann - REMAXSo you've lived in always the like he said Osborne Village and some of the other nice areas. What do you like about the exchange district? [00:02:48.630] - Sagan MorrowYou know, it's been really wonderful to live here over the past 10 years and see how much...
Seanorama and FastFretFingers went out before the COVID virus declared a global pandemic. [FreakingSnap](http://freakingsnap.bandcamp.com/) is an extremely prolific local electronic/experimental artist. He's released over 400 albums (and counting), and as we discuss on this episode, it's all building to an eventual goal. We talk about how/where to delve into such an epic catalogue, about the differences between live on-stage recordings and basement jams, being nervous performing improvised pieces, and much more. This episode is coming out on a notable date for Chris, too... kinda. It's probably going to end up being released right at the end of 8/14, but close enough to 8/15 that it pretty much counts. This episode is brought to you by Osborne Village's new pop-up record store, [Old Gold Vintage Vinyl](http://www.instagram.com/oldgoldvintagevinyl204/), and by our friends at [The Park Theatre](http://myparktheatre.com/). It's also brought to you by [Wildflower Media](http://wildflowermedia.ca/), a local media and graphic design company that specializes in websites and graphic design, especially posters and social media graphics. As many of you know, I like to host intimate little house shows in my back yard each summer. This episode of the podcast is the recording of one of the sets from our most recent back yard gig. This is a set by the show's headliner, Australian avant-cellist [Rob Knaggs](http://www.robknaggs.com/). Rob was back in Manitoba for the first time in quite a while (hear him talk about going home to Oz on a [previous interview](http://witchpolice.podiant.co/e/36da6f44a8cef6/) podcast), and he played a deadly set in the light of day – just Rob on the deck with the cello and no visuals. As mentioned in the intro, Rob's set was considerably louder than the others I recorded that afternoon, so there's a bit of clipping at times, but it doesn't take away from the Arctic-inspired beauty of his compositions. This episode is brought to you by Osborne Village's new pop-up record store, [Old Gold Vintage Vinyl](http://www.instagram.com/oldgoldvintagevinyl204/), and by our friends at [The Park Theatre](http://myparktheatre.com/). It's also brought to you by Polish-Canadian electronic outfit [Hypernashion](http://www.facebook.com/Hypernashion-Band-116231005088/) and the whole [Hyper Recordz](http://www.hyperrecordz.com/) family. Be sure to check out the [new Hypernashion single](http://youtu.be/pjsBFU7O5EI) (feat. 5imon5ez and Joe Silva). You'll also want to check out a [show Sept. 6 at the Cavern](http://www.facebook.com/events/405665890061421/), featuring a trio of past guests on the podcast – [Joe Curtis Band](http://witchpolice.podiant.co/e/368d6cb7dccec0/), [Paige Drobot](http://witchpolice.podiant.co/e/37461d930714ac/), and [Heartsleeve](http://witchpolice.podiant.co/e/3790b3f76eba1e/). It's hard to think of a better or more eclectic lineup. Finally, shoutout to Jesse Waters-Wolfe, the latest contributor to our [Patreon page](http://www.patreon.com/witchpolice). I don't push the Patreon hard, but it's there if you feel like the digital equivalent of throwing a tip in our guitar case. Thanks to everyone who has ever supported the podcast, financially or otherwise.
When I transferred the huge Witchpolice archive over to the current hosting site, about 50 episodes from 2013-2014 got missed. Although they've always been available, buried on the old Witchpolice site, they've never been formally discoverable on podcast platforms like Spotify or Apple Podcasts. I [recently asked listeners](http://www.facebook.com/WitchpoliceRadio/posts/2248282975270760) which of these lost episode(s) they'd like to hear re-released, this one – with Julia Ryckman, a/k/a [Slattern](http://www.juliaryckmanslattern.com/) – was easily the most-requested. At the time this episode (WR084) originally came out in July 2014, Witchpolice Radio had a very different format. We (I wasn't the only host!) weren't only interviewing local musicians, but were asking them to select songs from their own record collections based on randomly-generated theme words. Due to the sketchy legality of broadcasting other people's songs without permission, the selections are edited out of this episode, but it's still a great conversation, and was one of my favourites of the early years of the podcast. This episode is brought to you by Osborne Village's new pop-up record store, [Old Gold Vintage Vinyl](http://www.instagram.com/oldgoldvintagevinyl204/), and by our friends at [The Park Theatre](http://myparktheatre.com/).

As many of you know, I like to host intimate little house shows in my back yard each summer. This episode of the podcast is the recording of one of the sets from our most recent back yard gig. This set is by Brazilian-Canadian samba/bossa nova duo [Sarau Carioca](http://www.saraucarioca.com/), who I was really excited to have on the bill. They're doing something very different from anything we'd had at a house show before, and their mellow, gorgeous melodies are a must-listen... even if you don't speak Portuguese. I'll be releasing each of these live sets (most likely) as every second episode over the next few weeks, so stay tuned for a performance by Rob Knaggs (as well as the previously-released [Lana Winterhalt](http://witchpolice.podiant.co/e/378e5c502e2c50/) and [Two Crows for Comfort](http://witchpolice.podiant.co/e/3793c9c12d6a1c/) sets), alternating with the regular Witchpolice interviews. This episode is brought to you by Osborne Village's new pop-up record store, [Old Gold Vintage Vinyl](http://www.instagram.com/oldgoldvintagevinyl204/), and by our friends at [The Park Theatre](http://myparktheatre.com/). Also, be sure to check out our pals in Winnipeg's [The Lovers](http://www.facebook.com/handsomelousy/), who are set to release a new album – *The Erotic Awakening of Asia's Mom* – in September on all digital services and on CD. While you wait, check out the out-of-this-world new video for the record's lead single ‘[State of Mind](http://youtu.be/KouLxbTWe3Y)', which blends the band's trademark harmonica-driven, rockabilly/cowpunk sound with intergalactic visuals.
[One of Us](http://oneofus204.bandcamp.com/) is relatively new to the Winnipeg music scene as a band, but the band members are longtime veterans of the local punk rock community, having played in punk bands for decades. We talk about their sound, the undying appeal of melodic hardcore, their upcoming gigs – including a [Jarvis fire benefit](http://www.facebook.com/events/2550501931647873/[text](http://)) and dream gigs opening for the likes of Propagandhi and Good Riddance – and a lot more. There's also a killer live acoustic performance, as well as a sneak peek at some new material. I think all of us have wished at some point in our youth secretly to replace our current parents with a set from our favourite movie(s)....no, just me? Alright then, moving on... This week on The Reel Debaters we take that wish and put it into action. The Topic: If you could replace your current parents with a set of parental like figures/parents from any movie, who would they be and why? The Rules: They have to perform some parent like quality or be actual parents to count. Parental like characters are coming from the movies The Adams Family, the Fast and the Furious, Lord of the rings, Xmen, The Incredibles, Speedracer and Malificiant. This week in the living room in order of mostly like to be voted class clown is Christopher Stanton, Micheal Petrow, Martin Navarro and Mark Cowell Trailer of the week: Top Gun: Maverick Email [thereeldebaters@gmail.com](mailto:thereeldebaters@gmail.com) Instagram @thereeldebaterspodcast Twitter @thereeldebaters Thank you to our sponsors: The [Toad in the Hole Pub and Eatery](https://www.facebook.com/thetoadwpg/) located in the heart of Osborne Village in Winnieg, MB, Canada Instagram: The Toad in the Hole Proper Design works, for all your custom screen printing, embroidery, and clothing manufacturing needs. As many of you know, I like to host intimate little house shows in my back yard each summer. This episode of the podcast is the recording of one of the sets from our most recent back yard gig. Folk duo [Two Crows for Comfort](http://www.twocrowsforcomfort.com/) played a fantastic set of songs, primarily from their highly-recommended debut album, 17 Feet'. I've seen them a few times in a few different contexts now, and they seem like one of those versatile groups that could probably play a show anywhere and still fit in – but they seemed particularly at home at a cozy little back yard show. I'll be releasing each of these live sets (most likely) as every second episode over the next few weeks, so stay tuned for performances by Sarau Carioca and Rob Knaggs (as well as the previously-released [Lana Winterhalt](http://witchpolice.podiant.co/e/378e5c502e2c50/) set), alternating with the regular Witchpolice interviews. The fellas in [Heartsleeve](http://www.facebook.com/heartsleevemb) may be relatively new to the local scene, but they have their banjos n' mandos n' more sound well honed. I hung out with them in a terrifying (yet lovely) porch in the middle of nowhere for a conversation about their folk-with-a-twist sound, covering the Mars Volta with a banjo, playing as a full band vs. basic acoustic duos or trios, and much more. Plus, they performed four songs live, and since they don't have any formal recordings out yet... this may be one of the only places you can hear them. For now, anyway. As many of you know, I like to host intimate little house shows in my back yard each summer. This episode of the podcast is the recording of one of the sets from our most recent back yard gig, which happened this past Saturday. Singer-songwriter [Lana Winterhalt](http://www.lanawinterhalt.com/) released one of my favourite albums of 2018, and in this live set, she shows that her songs are equally as powerful when stripped down to just an acoustic guitar and a vocal FX pedal. I'll be releasing each of these live sets (most likely) as every second episode over the next few weeks, so stay tuned for performances by Two Crows for Comfort, Sarau Carioca, and Rob Knaggs as well, alternating with the regular Witchpolice interviews. This week on The Reel debaters its fast cars and fuel pods in a fast and furious track across this great nation we call home (Canada to those that are just tuning in) The Premise is if you were in a cross country race (think cannonball run meets death race) and you have to pick a car to win it, what car from what movie do you pick? Winner gets pink slips. Rules: No flying cars, no transformers and no time travel. Only weapons from the movie are allowed , no mod's. Cars being argued are from the movies Mad Max, The Dark Knight, Stripes and The Love Bug (Herbie) Cast: In order of who has the best character impressions is Martin Navarro, Mark Cowell, Micheal Petrow and bringing up the rear is Steve Taylor. YO ADRIAN! One of the most famous lines from Sylvester Stallone's resume of movies. But what about the rest? Most of us will admit that it's either the Rocky Franchise or the Rambo series that comes to mind first when you think of good ol' Sly. This week on The Reel Debaters we decided to highlight some of his other lesser celebrated characters with a twist. The Scenario: Who ever we pick we have to argue why said character would be up for the task in a Camp Directors position at a summer camp of our choosing. Rules: No Rocky and no Rambo, thats it! Movies being used are Demolition Man, Judge Dredd, Over The Top and Cliffhanger Cast: In order of picked first to last for red rover in elementary school , Mark Cowell, Micheal Petrow, Christopher Stanton and Martin Navarro. On Jan. 22, we hung out at historic Osborne Village apartment block The Roslyn with our new friends The Village Idiots to try a really fun live experiment. The show, which we're calling "The Little Mix-Up" was a livestreamed preview of this Sunday's Big Mix-Up Allstars show. It followed the usual Mix-Up "Whose Line is it Anyway? but for music" format, but instead of audience members yelling out genres of music and song topics, they made their requests online via Facebook Live. For the show, we enlisted Tim Haverluck (of The Tims) on guitar and vocals, Darryl Reilly (of Guerrillas of Soul) on sax, and Kumaran Reddy of Cilly Cyb Fung High on bass. They deftly tackled suggestions from "reggae/McDonald's menu" to "bluegrass/narcolepsy" and a lot more. This is a collab we'd absolutely like to do again, and incorporating video (of some kind) into our future projects is starting to seem like a must-do in 2017.

We're not the only game in town. A group of Osborne Village residents going by the name The Village Idiots have also been exploring Winnipeg's vibrant music scene.. but instead of a podcast, they're focused on live-streaming. The Idiots' Wednesday night program, Live at the Roslyn, offers local artists the chance to perform in an intimate setting for an ever-growing audience tuning in via Facebook Live.
