with @haydenzadams @kidsuper @smc90This episode involves a special mix of guests:Hayden Adams, founder and CEO of Uniswap Labs, and inventor of the Uniswap Protocol a leader in decentralized finance (DeFi); they recently announced Unichain; andColm Dillane, the multimedia artist behind fashion brand KidSuper, CFDA award winner who has his own Warhol Factory-like creative studio and space; Dillane started out selling t-shirts in his highschool cafeteria, and then went on to present his collection at Paris Fashion week — and has also done creative campaigns for iconic brands from Louis Vuitton and Mercedes Benz to Puma and Converse...in conversation with editor in chief Sonal Chokshi. The conversation originally took place at our Founder Summit (October 2024) but is more relevant than ever as the crypto industry focuses on mainstream applications and users. It covers:industry jargon, to making technology not just more broadly available but more culturally and socially understoodthe power of naming, including the origin story behind the unicorn and Unisocks and morethe difference between marketing vs. spectaclethe power of early community and what it means to expand to new users vs "sell out”drops -- “airdrops” in crypto; drops in fashion (a la Supreme), and just product launches in generalWe also touch on some questions and issues around open source, including forking and copying -- good or bad? -- and whether a collective can actually do good design. The theme throughout is about innovating vs. stagnating -- learning from different industries and places; trying (unexpected) new things, even when there may not be a clear business case up front, and much more. As a reminder: None of the following should be taken as business, investment, legal, or tax advice; please see a16z.com/disclosures for more important information.
“If the public can predict you, it starts to like you. But the Marchesa didn't want to be liked.” For the first three decades of the twentieth century, the Marchesa Luisa Casati astounded Europe. Artists such as Man Ray painted, sculpted, and photographed her; writers such as Ezra Pound and Jack Kerouac praised her strange beauty. An Italian woman of means who questioned the traditional gender codes of her time, she dismissed fixed identities as mere constructions. Gathering on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the first publication of Infinite Variety: The Life and Legend of the Marchesa Casati (the first full-length biography of Luisa Casati, now offered in an updated, ultimate edition), Michael Orlando Yaccarino joins Valerie Steele, Joan Rosasco, and Francesca Granata in conversation about the enigma that is the Marchesa Casati.Michael Orlando Yaccarino is a writer specializing in international genre film, fashion, music, and unconventional historic figures. Scot D. Ryersson (1960–2024) was an award-winning writer, illustrator, and graphic designer. Michael and Scot collaborated on many projects, are coauthors of Infinite Variety: The Life and Legend of the Marchesa Casati, The Ultimate Edition, and are founders of the Casati Archives. www.marchesacasati.comValerie Steele is a fashion historian and director and chief curator of the Museum at the Fashion Institute of Technology. She is author of numerous publications including The Septet.Francesca Granata is associate professor of fashion studies at Parsons School of Design. Her research focuses on modern and contemporary visual culture, fashion history and theory, and gender and performance studies. Granata is editor of Fashion Criticism and author of Experimental Fashion, and wrote the afterword to Infinite Variety.Praise for the book:"Ryersson and Yaccarino are judicious historians of frivolity who capture the tone of a life that was obscenely profligate yet strangely pure."—The New Yorker"A meticulously researched biography, Infinite Variety is as much art history as chronicle of personal obsession."—The New York Times"Fascinating . . . with or without her cheetahs, the Marchesa Casati's circus of the self makes her a natural for the new millennium."—Vanity FairInfinite Variety: The Life and Legend of Marchesa Casati, The Ultimate Edition is available from University of Minnesota Press.

The Fashion Fête, a three-day event at the Ritz Carlton in New York, began on 4th November, 1914, offering New Yorkers their first glimpse of what we would now understand as a fashion show. With Parisian ateliers shut down due to the First World War, the U.S. editor of Vogue, Edna Woolman Chase, had proposed the event as a way to showcase the work of American designers: a novel concept in an industry that traditionally looked to France for inspiration. In this episode, Arion, Rebecca and Olly explain how Conde Nast (the man) was originally unsure about the precedent Conde Nast (the brand) would be establishing; reveal how Woolman Chase encouraged high society ladies to participate; and reveal how the War also led to other fashion breakthroughs including New York Fashion Week and the Met Gala… Further Reading: • ‘The fascinating history of the catwalk show' (Harpers Bazaar, 2022): https://www.harpersbazaar.com/uk/fashion/a35783366/history-catwalk-show/ • ‘As Seen in Vogue: A Century of American Fashion in Advertising, By Daniel Delis Hill' (Texas Tech University Press, 2004): https://www.google.co.uk/books/edition/As_Seen_in_Vogue/MvilOZhaRkAC?hl=en&gbpv=1&dq=fashion+fete+1914&pg=PA29&printsec=frontcover • ‘Paris Fashion in 1917 - AI Enhanced Film during WW1' (Glamour Daze, 2020): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0Pjw12GSNBM Love the show? Daniel Alexander is an Australian Fashion Designer now living in Paris. Chatting to him after his second Paris Fashion Week show, I was fascinated to hear about his passion for fashion, the things that inspire him and how he hopes to inspire the next generation of designers. From a young age in Brisbane Australia, Daniel was making clothes out of his mother's drapes (a la Sound of Music!) and he continued to work hard to pursue a career that has taken him to live around the world and now in Paris. Even though Daniel lives in a world where it is normal to consider showing his collection at a venue like the Ritz Paris, something most of us can only dream of, he is wonderfully grounded and still full of the Aussie spirit that embodies hard work and determination.I met up with Daniel when I was recently in Paris and reconnecting for our podcast chat was such a delight. Whether you are a Francophile, perhaps a devotee to fashion or you're just interested in the life stories of others, tune into listen to Daniel's chat with Loulabelle and "watch this space" for what is coming up next for Daniel Alexander!**Louise Prichard is the host of the Loulabelle's FrancoFiles podcast.**Other Loulabelle's links:FrancoFile Fix on YouTubeLoulabelle's FrancoFiles Spotify Playlist Loulabelle's FrancoFiles InstagramLoulabelle's FrancoFiles website

In this podcast, Lama Jammal Houssami describes her educational and career path and why she was inspired to create a cooking school, Mamalu Kitchen, in Dubai. Mamalu Kitchen was inspired by her 3 boys and the need to help fellow mums and families simplify their day-to-day lives without having to worry about feeding their family fuss-free healthy food. The first concept launched under the Mamalu Kitchen brand in 2016 was cooking classes for nannies and housekeepers. Using recipes in their native language from traditional Arabic cuisine, Lama taught them how to cook for the ultimate dinner party. That was shortly followed by cooking classes for mums/children, schools, couples, corporations & even husbands who also wanted to learn how to create delicious, all-natural food for their families. Mamalu Kitchen has created a cooking movement under the slogan #feedingfamilies. In line with her cooking movement in 2020 she started Eazy Freezy; an all natural, easy to cook frozen food product line for families on the go. Hassle free yumminess without the bad stuff. The products are available online and across Spinneys & Waitrose outlets all over the UAE. By engaging every single member of the household/family and various members of the community, to be involved and empowered by cooking, Mamalu Kitchen is enabling lifestyle changes in the region. This ‘cooking movement' is leading families to live a healthier and happier life. Born in Lebanon and raised most of her life in the UK, Lama has always had a passion for cooking since the age of 6. By shadowing her mother from a young age she acquired the knowledge of all of the classic Arabic dishes. Her specialty is family food, large beautiful mouthwatering dishes to be shared amongst friends and family in a fuss-free way. Her love of cooking led her to study at Glion Hotel Management School in Switzerland and she earned a Hospitality & Tourism degree. She gained experience with some of the top 5 star luxury hotel groups such as Four Seasons, Rocco Forte and Hyatt hotels in London, Paris and Rome. Mamalu Kitchen is not Lama's first entrepreneurial venture, she has had over a decade of experience in the fashion industry under her independent private label. She has opened two concept stores in Beirut, Lebanon {Ribbon & Lace and Birdcage} She has also been a part of the prestigious London & Paris Fashion weeks for 7 consecutive years and has extensive experience as a designer for high end clothing brand, Mojo World.

Tonje ThoresenPhotographer Tonje is a storyteller. She has always explored ways to present multiple sides of objects or people, and photography naturally became her vocation.'For me every moment has a value – and only a photo can immortalize that – it will tell you more about a person or a moment than a dozen words can. 'She was born and educated in Norway and moved to Berlin to study art and fashion at the Lette Verein. After completing her diploma Tonje moved to Paris, where she worked as an illustrator for the couture houses and young avant garde designers of the time. During this time Tonje also became a fashion model for Dior, Chanel, Carven and L'Oreal. Her experience in the visual and aesthetic worlds of art and fashion sparked Tonje's interest in photography, and her experience in front of the camera became a valuable asset. She specialized in portraiture, undertaking projects for public figures and individuals while establishing a recognisable personal style.‘I love to take pictures of people - to show them what they can give, to bring out the character and natural attraction in every person and to tell their story'As a photoreporter Tonje became a regular at the Paris Fashion weeks working both backstage and front of house for the Couture and Pret à Porter collections. She also covered political events and debates – as well as sporting events such as the French Open Roland Garros tennis tournament, where she shot both matches and interviews with the athletes.Tonje Thoresen lives in Paris with her daughter.Support the show
With so many franchises in flux, so many back on our screens and so many uncertain as to when they will return, we are all over the place today. Starting on the left coast, we deep dive Lisa Rinna's new life - acting gigs, Paris Fashion week and many, many statements that she will be okay. In other RHOBH news, we discuss being snubbed by the one and only Erika Jayne and break down when we can expect the new cast to realistically be announced. While we do not know when the RHOC trailer will drop, we discuss Tamra's recent statement that she knows little more than us, Tamra's message to haters that she is just getting started, Shannon Beador's breakup and whether the return of Miss Judge can save this once stellar franchise. Yes, we still stan Heather Dubrow. Speaking of franchises that need saving, we share our hot takes on how to fix RHOSLC, discuss casting rumors and why Mary Cosby returning is something that will probably never happen. In recent weeks, one of the world's most famous singers has been generating even more headlines than usual, but for all the wrong reasons. It all started on 3rd October at Paris Fashion week. Kanye West, now known as Ye, wore a T-shirt with the words “White Lives Matter” on it. The slogan has been linked to white supremacists in the US. Following that incident, fellow rapper P Diddy defended Ye in public and tried to reason with him privately. But Ye went on to post a screenshot of their conversation on Instagram, accusing Diddy of being controlled by Jews. A common antisemitic trope suggests that the Jews control various sections of society, like the media, financial institutions and even governments. What do Jewish people have to do with P Diddy? What was the fallout? Isn't Kanye West mentally ill? In under 3 minutes, we answer your questions! To listen to the latest episodes, click here: How can you save money on your food bill? She has advice on what to wear this summer, what coffee to buy – her line, of course – and you can follow her exploits during Paris Fashion week. But is Emma Chamberlain a celebrity or an influencer or a content creator or… all three? Gen Z, born between roughly 1997 to 2012, has a different relationship with social media than older cohorts since it's been with them most of their lives. We'll discuss influencers such as Chamberlain and how Gen Z has reshaped what it means to be a social media star. Guests: Madison Semarjian, founder, Mada, an app for styling and buying clothing Moises Mendez II, culture reporter, Time Magazine Steffi Cao, social news reporter, BuzzFeed Greisy Hernandez, mental health and wellness advocate and social media personality
