Pedro H. da Silva is a multicultural composer, equally at home writing for orchestra, for film, a Middle Eastern ensemble, and his rock band Tritone King. He's also an innovator of the Portuguese guitar, classical guitar, and other plucked string instruments. Pedro has performed and recorded his own works as a soloist with the Academy of St. Martin in the Fields, the London Metropolitan Orchestra, and Orchestre Lamoureux in Paris, among others. The José Limón Dance Company commissioned Pedro to compose a ballet performed and recorded by the Manhattan Camerata, a chamber ensemble he co-founded with his wife Lucia Caruso. Equally acclaimed as a film music composer, Pedro received awards at the Cannes Film Festival, Sundance, South by Southwest, and at the Venice Biennale. The films he has worked on have been the official selection of more than 60 international festivals. Pedro is a faculty member at New York University teaching composition, guitar, mandolin, banjo, and sitar. For the first time in history, a ‘Concerto for Portuguese Guitar and Orchestra' has been composed and recorded, with the composer, Pedro Henriques da Silva, performing as soloist. The whole album “Transclassical Concertos” will be released on August 25th 2023 on the label Bright Shiny Things/Imaginary Animals. Recorded at the legendary Abbey Road Studios with the Academy of St. Martin in the Fields—the most successful chamber orchestra in history with about 800 albums released with millions of copies sold and won many Gold Discs. When television's Harry Bosch (technically Titus Welliver) started firing blanks a few years ago, the strangest thing happened. You'd think that an SVU centered around Scott Bakula tricking his mistress into putting their love child up for adoption would lend itself to hours of Quantum Leap conversation wondering just how Ziggy and Al let this whole situation get this out of hand, and that definitely happens, but so does a dive into a pretty heinous guest star, who lived through some gnarly trauma and then doled out a lot more herself.Just as important though, this episode emphatically chides parents who have the temerity to try to parent AND use their cell phones at the same time, and makes you wonder how more parents aren't clocking clear pedos at the park. Sonny Carisi gets down and dirty with some pretty gnarly dudes in this week's SVU, which sends dearest Dominick undercover into a shelter populated by paroled sex offenders. One (or more?) of these parolees appears to be raping neighborhood women, and the Unit has to figure out who's doing it before Carisi gets beaten to a pulp by meathead vigilantes. Luckily Michael Rapaport is around to save Carisi's bacon once, but is he the guy? If there is an episode of SVU featuring a worse version of Bad Amanda Rollins, the Munchie Boys have yet to come across it. Gambling Amanda gets in Dutch with an improbable art forgery/gambling outfit who use her massive debts to them to get her to be their evidence-disappearing cop on the take. Rollins do so much to warrant her immediate firing that it's shocking she made it another decade past this. More than that, for a solid half-hour, we're left to think she was forced to blow Declan while he's undercover in his first appearance. To say Law & Order: SVU's historic treatment of the transgender community is fraught with problems is an understatement of epic proportions, and this week's episode--S17E13 Transgender Bridge--makes, ummm, progress? Of course, it's incremental at best, and much of the ground gained is immediately lost by jamming the episode full of racial stereotyping that plays rough. What happens when a super rich girl gets cut off after her umpteenth parentally funded business venture fails? Well, since this is SVU, a grisly double homicide hastily staged to look like a murder-suicide, followed in short order by a slew of hits taken out on the Unit after they ignore Sarah Paulson/Anne Gillette's extreme white privilege, and an off-the-books massive undercover fake jailbreak operation against Cragen's explicit orders that they were all off the case. There's also plenty of class warfare, crapping on abstract art, and multiple undercover ops, one of which includes Liv domming out on a bootlicking blue blood. And don't worry, this still opens plenty of doors to vanish through, so if you want to know how abstract art got funded, and what nefarious organization was doing it, look no further than this episode of Munch My Benson. Sure, this SVU spends a lot of time presupposing that we are heavily invested in the lives of minor recurring characters, but it also introduces us to a delightfully crass BBQ slinger with a penchant for lewd double entendres and forces us to go down all kinds of wild Munchian rabbit holes. Does Rollins have a separate person for her vacations at clothing-optional, adult-only all-inclusives? What scandals have engulfed the world of professional canoeing? Is Adam capable of surviving as a single parent for more than a week? Did we just watch an extra torpedo a "career" in background acting for the chance at one pay bump? This is definitely one for the Munchie-curious as a full 45 minutes of banter about Josh's concert going, Lucas Duda, and the Yiddish language (among many, many other things) had to be left on the cutting room floor.
