Regarded as one of the most influential hip-hop artists of his generation, Lamar was awarded the 2018 Pulitzer Prize for Music, becoming the first musician outside of the classical and jazz genres to receive the honor.Born in Compton, California, Lamar began releasing music under the stage name K. Dot while he was attending high school. He signed with Top Dawg Entertainment (TDE) in 2005, where he co-founded the hip hop supergroup Black Hippy. Following the 2011 release of his alternative rap debut album Section.80, Lamar secured a joint contract with Dr. Dre's Aftermath Entertainment and Interscope Records. He rose to prominence with his gangsta rap-influenced second album Good Kid, M. A. A. D City (2012), which became the longest-charting hip hop studio album in the Billboard 200's chart history; Rolling Stone named it the greatest concept album of all time. In 2015, Lamar scored his first Billboard Hot 100 number-one single, after featuring on the remix of Taylor Swift's "Bad Blood", and released his third album, To Pimp a Butterfly, which infused hip-hop with historical African-American music genres such as jazz, funk, and soul, and became his first of five consecutive number-one albums on the Billboard 200 chart.Lamar's critical and commercial success continued with his R&B and pop-leaning fourth album Damn (2017), yielding his second Hot 100 number-one single, "Humble". He curated original songs for the soundtrack of the 2018 film Black Panther, earning a nomination for the Academy Award for Best Original Song for the US and UK top-ten single "All the Stars". Lamar's 2022 double album Mr. Morale & the Big Steppers concluded his tenure with TDE and Aftermath. His feud with Drake and subsequent sixth album GNX (2024) spawned the Hot 100 number-ones "Like That", "Squabble Up", as well as "Not Like Us", which became the most-decorated song in the Grammy Awards history, with five wins, including Song of the Year and Record of the Year.Lamar has received various accolades throughout his career, including 22 Grammy Awards (the third-most won by a rapper), a Primetime Emmy Award, a Brit Award, four American Music Awards, six Billboard Music Awards, 11 MTV Video Music Awards (including two Video of the Year wins), and a record 37 BET Hip Hop Awards. Time listed him as one of the 100 most influential people in the world in 2016. Two of his concert tours, the Damn Tour (2017–2018) and the Big Steppers Tour (2022–2024), are amongst the highest-grossing rap tours in history. Three of his works were included in Rolling Stone's 2020 revision of the 500 Greatest Albums of All Time. Outside of music, Lamar co-founded the creative company PGLang and ventured into film with his longtime creative partner, Dave Free. This recording reflects the Wikipedia text as of 02:39 UTC on Tuesday, 11 February 2025.For the full current version of the article, see Kendrick Lamar on Wikipedia. This podcast uses content from Wikipedia under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike License.Visit our archives at wikioftheday.com and subscribe to stay updated on new episodes.Follow us on Mastodon at @wikioftheday@masto.ai.Also check out Curmudgeon's Corner, a current events podcast.Until next time, I'm neural Joey.

ON this episode of AVA Live radio, Jacqueline Jax reviews the Kendrick Lamar 'Count Me Out' Music Video. In the “Count Me Out” music video from rapper Kendrick Lamar's Grammy-nominated “Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers” album, the 35-year-old artist gets deep with his therapist — played by Dame Helen Mirren. Co-directed by Lamar and pgLang co-founder Dave Free, the black-and-white video begins with Lamar seated in front of a closed piano, with Mirren's voice calling to his attention. He turns around as the camera focuses in on Mirren. Before the music begins, they discuss an incident in which Lamar denied taking a parking spot from somebody before admitting that he did, and the two share a laugh. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/ava-live-radio/message

Die Odyssee ist beendet oder geht besser gesagt in ein neues Kapitel. Lange haben wir auf das 5. Album von Kendrick Lamar gewartet und nun ist es da. Since his 2017 album, “DAMN.,” the California rapper has won seven Grammys and the Pulitzer Prize for music. “Mr. Morale,” his fifth LP, is expected to make a big splash on the charts. The five-year wait for a new album by Kendrick Lamar — the Pulitzer-anointed, voice-of-a-generation rapper — is finally over. “Mr. Morale & the Big Steppers,” Lamar's fifth studio LP and one of the most ardently anticipated new albums in years, was released overnight on digital services, with big hopes from fans and big questions looming about his next career steps. After years of growing anticipation, the Compton rapper has returned with Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers—his first full-length project since 2017's Damn. Kendrick confirmed its official release in mid-April under his Oklama moniker. The drop date was shared on letterhead for pgLang, the “at service company” he co-founded with longtime friend and business partner Dave Free. “The following statement was released today by Oklama through his company pgLang at 11 a.m. PT in Los Angeles CA,” the memo began. “Album: ‘Mr. Morale & the Big Steppers.' Release date: 5/13/2022. All factual information for this release will come directly from this source only.” source: https://www.complex.com/music/kendrick-lamar-mr-morale-and-the-big-steppers-album-stream --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/masseffect/support
Heute statt einem "Let's Talk About...

Video episode: https://youtu.be/jEQX8gUINjw
Just over a year ago we were first introduced to the idea of pgLang and in that time we've gotten glimpses of what it could actually be. The main thing that we've really learned in this time is what we saw from their Calvin Klein collaboration as well as the songs that Keem's released, but there's definitely more Video Podcast here: https://youtu.be/riLul9zqPc8
