Mauli's (CA) 07 29 23 lead at MAWPM's "Saturday Night Live" meeting Learn more about Marijuana Anonymous MA Meetings by Phone Search for a MA Meeting Marijuana Anonymous Preamble Marijuana Anonymous is a fellowship of people who share our experience, strength, and hope with each other that we may solve our common problem and help others to recover from marijuana addiction. The only requirement for membership is a desire to stop using marijuana. There are no dues or fees for membership. We are self-supporting through our own contributions. MA is not affiliated with any religious or secular institution or organization and has no opinion on any outside controversies or causes. Our primary purpose is to stay free of marijuana and to help the marijuana addict who still suffers achieve the same freedom. We can do this by practicing our suggested Twelve Steps of recovery and by being guided as a group by our Twelve Traditions. Marijuana Anonymous uses the basic 12 Steps of Recovery founded by Alcoholics Anonymous, because it has been proven that the 12 Step Recovery program works! Who is a Marijuana Addict? We who are marijuana addicts know the answer to this question. Marijuana controls our lives! We lose interest in all else; our dreams go up in smoke. Ours is a progressive illness often leading us to addictions to other drugs, including alcohol. Our lives, our thinking, and our desires center around marijuana—scoring it, dealing it, and finding ways to stay high." In 1830, the same year the Church was organized, a former slave named Peter became the first documented Black member of the Church. Nearly 200 years later, Mauli Bonner first heard Peter's story when he started exploring his own faith as a Black member of the Church. This journey led him to Paul Reeve, a professor at the University of Utah who has studied Blacks in Church history extensively. On today's episode, Mauli and Paul explain not only the importance of the stories of early Black Latter-day Saints, but also how their stories can strengthen our faith and our testimonies of the restored gospel. “The beauty of it all is that we are here now and have an opportunity to learn and do something good. That's what we have control over. We can't change what was, we were not there. But we are here now.“ —Mauli Bonner Show Notes 3:24- Blacks in the Early Days of the Church 8:50- Legislation with Theological Implications 12:00- Learning the History as a Black Latter-day Saint 15:22- Green Flake and Brigham Young 25:28- Strengthening Testimony Rather Than Weakening 31:44- Historical Accuracy 37:12- What Needed to Change? 44:22- Why Monuments Matter 51:22- What Does It Mean To Be All In the Gospel of Jesus Christ? Seid lieb zueinander!

When it comes to ministering we often think of big acts of service, like showing up on a friend's porch with a treat and a handwritten note, because at the very least, ministering requires food, right? This kind of service can be wonderful—we all love a thoughtful gift—but are we missing out on opportunities to serve because we feel overwhelmed when our own plates are full? Sometimes, though, one of the simplest ways we can minister is by offering them our undivided attention—the gift of listening. So in today's episode, we explore how our capacity to love grows both when we take the time to listen and when we are heard in return. “Our capacity to love is so much greater than we realize when we begin to listen.” Mauli Bonner works as a vocal director, writer, producer, and author. He wrote and directed the award-winning film His Name is Green Flake and has worked with many music and film artists throughout his career. He and his wife Chantel live in Los Angeles with their two children, and he translates his listening skills in the music industry to his everyday life as a father, husband, and a disciple of Jesus Christ. Top takeaways from this episode! When we listen to others and do our best to really feel what they are telling us, we are listening as the Savior does. Listening is a service that anyone can give, and we can all do it today! As we better understand what others are trying to tell us, both the speaker and the listener can increase their love and appreciation for one another. Listening can bring healing—even when we might disagree or feel resentment about what the other person is saying. Listening to others gives us a greater capacity to love. Something to think about: You may have had interactions where you didn't fully understand someone because neither of you felt listened to. How can you love others more by giving them a listening ear? Small and simple challenge: This week's challenge is simple but significant! Think about a friend or family member whose relationship has been strained in the last little bit. Take the time to reach out to them and ask how you could have listened better to the words they were saying and allow them to share without reservation.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Mauli Bonner is a tremendously successful vocal director and song writer. He and his wife Chantel founded the charity Lift Up Voices that provides opportunities with music and arts to young people. He wrote and directed an award winning film His Name is Green Flake, that tells the story of some of the first African American pioneers to the Utah Valley. The movie inspired a monument dedicated to those pioneers that was dedicated on July 22nd, 2022, on the 175th anniversary of the first wagon through Emigration Canyon.
At This is the Place Heritage Park this morning, hundreds gathered to witness the historic unveiling of a new monument honoring early Black pioneers.
Today we invited Mauli to come back on Saints Unscripted and respond to the comments on his first video with us all about Black members of the LDS Church and the priesthood ban. If you aren't familiar with the priesthood ban, watch this playlist for more information: https://bit.ly/3pK3pWt Mauli responds to questions about an apology from the LDS Church (otherwise known as the Mormon Church), what the LDS Church should do moving forward, and why he isn't planning on leaving the church anytime soon.
# kwakuel #Mormon #LatterDaySaints #LDS One of the most talked about and controversial topics of the LDS church and its history is the ban (or as Kwaku calls it... the "postponement") of early black members of the church from receiving the Priesthood despite having the priesthood from the beginning of the Restoration. Here we dive into the question "Where di the Priesthood Ban come from?" with our new pal, Mauli Bonner from the Bonner Family (yes that one..) and we have a lot of fun doing it.
You may have heard the profound quote by Lorenzo Snow, “As man now is, God once was: As God now is, man may be." But you may not have heard BYU professor Dr. Marcus Martins's thoughts that then “God ... could very well be like me.” Martins believes that “if [God] lived on an earth like ours with the same plan of happiness, then it might not be so far from [the] truth to say that [He] could be Asian, Pacific Islander, African, Hispanic, Māori, or American. We really don't know, but it is worth considering.” In this special bonus episode of Sunday on Monday, we'll discover how all have been truly alike unto God since the very beginning, and how race and the priesthood relate to the Old Testament.
