For the first time ever, SEMA Show, the annual trade show in Las Vegas, opened to the public on its last day in 2023. Established in 1963, SEMA has 7,000+ member companies in the business of customizing cars and trucks. The association added a new membership category for consumers who are car-crazy fanatics, rugged overlanders, vintage car restorers, adrenaline-fueled racers, grease-monkey gearheads, "cars and coffee" connoisseurs, or weekend warriors looking for automotive adventures. The launch of SEMA Fest, a consumer event held Nov. 3-4 at the Las Vegas Festival Grounds. 16,000 tickets were sold to see a star-studded roster of musical talent, featuring performances by Imagine Dragons, Incubus, Wiz Khalifa, AJR, Third Eye Blind, Bush, Walk the Moon and more. We sat down with Joe at The Performance Racing Industry Show to discuss what works in motorsport marketing, and more importantly, what doesn’t work. We talked about when is it time to improve your teams look? How small of an order can you place for apparel? What things should you have in place before pitching sponsors or taking your game to the next level? But we also discussed how you can do this at a smaller level. How you can take what you do trackside, and convert it into real work market place activities. Some of the tools are for larger teams, but many of the concepts apply to grassroots racers as well. Ever called a TV station to cover you? Joe Beckham tells us how some these tools can work for you. How you can take control of your motorsport marketing and promotion. Joes runs Axcel Sports and provides motorsport apparel and branding solutions to some of the top teams in the US. But he can also outfit smaller teams as well. Check out their website: https://www.axcelsports.com (The checklist mentioned in the podcast is coming soon!)
Ryan from DSX Motorsports was just in Indianapolis for the 2019 Performance Racing Industry (PRI) trade show, and he saw a lot of cool things that we talk about. Some of the things discussed are stand alone aftermarket ECU's and PDM's, sequential transmissions that are coming out for the STI 6-speed transmission, and bolt-in roll cages. Then we move to the subject of Roger Clark Motorsports Gobstopper 3. Roger Clark Motorsport has been releasing one picture a day for December to reveal various details about their Gobstopper 3 build. We have a blog on the Flatirons Tuning site that collects all of these posts, and to say the least, this build is really impressive. All of us have been taking a hard look at what RCM has been doing, so the second half of our conversation revolves on that. Thanks very much for listening, and Stay Tuned!
